Magic in space!Ever wondered what happens to your favorite epic fantasy world when it finally discovers technology and travels the stars? Ever wished The Force was just a little more useful?
Razerian Bartok, or Raze to his friends, is an Imperial Mage Prime, one of the most powerful individuals in Empire and, as far as humanity knows, the universe. Exiled to serve in a backwater expansion planet, he dreams only of returning to “civilization”. But with the arrival of the first dragon humanity has encountered in living memory, he finds himself in the middle of a chain of events that will alter the course of humanity for generations to come.
Void Mage is the first book in a brand new space fantasy adventure trilogy from Owen Norris. It combines the sense of wonder of epic fantasy with the star-spanning excitement of space opera in an action-adventure you won't want to miss. Who doesn't love science fiction with magic?
Owen Norris is a reader, video and tabletop gamer and, oddly enough, an author. He grew up reading fantasy before transferring over to science fiction later in life. Now, he works to fuse the two genres, discovering how magic and technology can coexist. This has been built on a foundation of eleven years as an electrical engineer, making tech and its effect on humanity second nature in his writing. When not writing or spending time with his family, Owen dreams of snowboarding while sitting in the heat of Brisbane, Australia. As the author of the book, I won't be rating my work as I'm probably way more critical of it than most of its readers. Instead, I'm stealing this idea from Michael J. Sullivan to update readers on what's happening with this series.
Apr 2020 - No surprises, but it looks like book 2 is going to be delayed a month thanks to some slower progress in light of being stuck at home with children. That's life for you!
Feb 2020 - Book 2 is currently underway and I'm planning on releasing it in May. If you like book 1, you can join my mailing list at thenerdsmith.com to get notified as soon as book 2 is ready.
Interesting though not radically unique mashup of sci-fi and sorcery. Well written overall with a few spelling/homonym issues (something that's rough is coarse, not "course" for example). I wasn't sure I was going to like the protagonist at first, but he developed well.
Not certain that there's a lot more potential with this story line, but at least another book based on the end of this one.
On a slight tangent, has anyone else had problems posting ratings direct from their Kindle recently? This shows up as me having read it twice, but I had to manually add it to Goodreads so I suspect that's the source of that. Some books auto-populate here and some don't (until recently they all did), but I've not noticed a pattern yet as to why.
