Mr. Marcos's military record is fraught with myths, factual inconsistencies, and lies. The rule in history is that when a claim is disproven—such as Mr. Marcos's claims about his medals, ranks, and guerrilla unit—it is simply dismissed. When moreover, a historical matter is under question or grave doubt, as expressed in the military records about Mr. Marcos's actions and character as a soldier, the matter may not be established or taken as fact. A doubtful record also does not serve as sound, unassailable basis of historical recognition of any sort, let alone burial in a site intended, as its name suggests, for heroes.
For these reasons, the National Historical Commission of the Philippines opposes the plan to bury Mr. Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.
The Commission undertook this study as part of its mandate to conduct and disseminate historical research and resolve historical controversies (Section 5 and 7, Republic Act No. 10086).
A short yet comprehensive account presenting the factual and historical evidences on why the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos Sr. is no hero, and should not be buried at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.

Back in 2016, Marcos Sr. was buried 'secretly' in the LNMB. As requested by the Marcos family, they want a "simple and private" funeral rites for the late dictator. No headlines, no immediate news reports, and the news about the issue only came up when Marcos was already buried. According to the former president Duterte, Marcos Sr. was a Filipino soldier; but facts and evidences are saying otherwise.
This short research by the NHCP objects to the burial of Marcos Sr. at LNMB based on his records as a soldier. Using primary and secondary sources, and even Marcos' commissioned autobiographies; the NHCP presents all the myths, factual inconsistencies, and lies perpetrated to portray Marcos as a "military hero". Excerpts from these biographies are absurb and cringey, and out-of-reality. Compiled resources from Filipino and war veterans, soldiers, journals, written books and documents, and trials, etc. were used to debunk Marcos' doubtful and malicious claims. With the use of proper research methodologies, the NHCP comes up with an evidence-based conclusions on why Marcos Sr. should not be buried in a site to honor our heroes.
Allowing a thief and a dictator to be laid along with our true heroes is a disrespect to the Filipino people.

Thus, LNMB should be called Libingan ng mga Bayani at ng Isang Hindi.
