I really do enjoy this series. Its definitely one of my favourites. The world just keeps getting bigger and Wick keeps getting pulled deeper in and I love it all lol. I love Foster's voice, the way they develop the world, and how they explore characters.
Only thing I'd say could be improved would be editing. Some sentences were missing words or not well formed.
This writer is talented. His books have more 'meat' in them than I usually come across in the LitRPG genre. These books are a unique story-line; BIG KUDOS for that!! There is actual world building!! Unfortunately, the main character is a real narcissistic deeb, with very few redeeming qualities, except to say he is not 'evil' per se. That is sad that the best thing I can think to say about him is, "...he is not exactly evil," just a narcissist that wants all the power in the world (like enough to take it if necessary) all the gold in the world and uses people as though they are inanimate tools. SO...! You may wonder why and the heck I stuck around for two books. Cause I did. I asked myself a couple times..."Is this worth it?" and the answer was always, "Yes!". There are other main characters- people in the book that do have the moral character to make them likable (yes, I do like to admire the people I invest 20+ hours of my life in) I look for in a protagonist. And I have got to say the world is just that interesting. I was hooked. I recommend this series, at least the first two books wholeheartedly!
The first book was a bit choppy, but it all came together in this one. With no need of exposition, and the two past/future abandoned for a.more linear narrative, this is an engaging action romp in an interesting world. Really good, frankly. Wish that the next one was done.
Needs a proofread in the later chapters, there are a bunch of missing words and a few homophone misspellings that break flow in what is otherwise an extremely compelling read. The sentences themselves are well put together and snappy, so maybe cut and paste errors? In any vase, interested to see what is next.
I really like the story, even if the main character is a little hard to relate to sometimes. The issue, though, is that this book seriously needs some editing. The beginning wasnt so bad but towards the end of the book there were several errors every single page. It was hard trying to understand what was going on.
That said, I really did enjoy the story itself. It had plenty of action, plenty of character improvement, and it was overall satisfying to read, minus the mountain of errors
I enjoyed the first book thoroughly, with a main character that felt like it was from Orson Scott Card novel. The young kids that spoke and acted like hardened veterans. The pace and intensity from book one carried over well, but there was a large amount of editing issues. These issues weren't just misspelled words, it was the sentence syntax that was so misaligned that it pulled you out of the narrative to work out what exactly the author was trying to say.
I liked the book, but you really need a editor. There were misspelled words and bad punctuation. And though I really liked Wick, he really didnt do much crafting. I was hopeful he would make weapons or brand new trade goods. Something that ACTUALLY showed the strength of his legacy. Though I'm glad to see that his mind hasn't dulled, and you didn't add a ridiculous romantic interest.
I guess it's time for the "bold to get the gold". I might regret this.
At first I felt cheated. This book (and future ones) will be telling of what happened in the gaps before the end of the first book.
After a chapter or two I started to enjoy this. Him using his wits to accomplish tasks was fun.
I finished this novel and I'm not too sure where it went sour.
Near the end the protagonist just had too many things going his way in unbelievable ways. The way the protagonist thinks isn't like an eleven year old. It feels like the author wrote an adult, and just refers to him as an eleven year old.
It didn't help matters that he pulled inventions out his butt. I would understand if he was an adult from earth, and was transported to that world. he would have a plethora of lore and media to draw inventions from. As I see it here, he just pulls them from his butt because his "legacy" (read Deus Ex Machina) willed it.
I don't know if I will read the sequels. When I started this book it was a 3.5, now at the end, it's just a 3 star.
I’ve read both the 1st and 2nd books of this series. The storyline, characters, and overall world building is fascinating and well done. I gave 3 stars because the grammar, spelling, and lack of editing/re-write is evident throughout the book. It became hard to understand the author’s descriptions. I highly recommend pulling the book, rewriting, send it to an editor, and then republish. That will help in the long run. The storyline is good, but I am not interested in reading future books by this author if he continues in this manner.
The story is awesome. Wick is now one of my favorite all time characters. The magic system is unique and the supporting characters are interesting. The only issue I had, and it is a serious issue, is the editing. It seemed like every other line of text had a misplaced or misspelled word. It was very distracting. It took a five star review down to a 3.5 star review. Luckily enough the rating system does not allow half stars. Love the story and direction, but please get some editing help.
This book was a very fun ride from start to finish, a rich world with a great story - the main and sub plots all aligning to improve the overall rich world that has been “crafted”.
Because the world building for this story is rather excellent. There’s so much going on, but it all feels interesting and worthwhile rather than unearned, and that is why I enjoyed it so much.
This series is legit! I buy every book Foster puts out because its always a fun read the story is intriguing the paceing is solid you never get bogged down in drudgery to get to the next seen. Every passage serves to advance the characters journey. The only bit of criticism is it could use a good editing pass. Some words have obviously been auto-correct to the wrong word. Other than that I 100% recommend anything Outspan puts out.
The storyline is unique, the character builds well connected. The main characters well drawn and the action is believable.
The problem with this book is the horrible editing. The grammar is even better than average. It’s the typos, missing words, incorrect spellings and scrambled sentences that litter the pages that make it almost unreadable.
Both this and book one kept me engaged and fascinated by the world they are set in and the characters. I still hope there is some way Wick could eventually get part of his red thread back, but recognize that would then most likely diminish the gold again and that would derail Wick some. Maybe when he's old enough to retire.
One note is that the grammar is off at times, but not too often.
I really enjoy this story and the characters. It’s a unique concept that I haven’t seen in the genre previously. This could be a five star book if the author would’ve asked some friends to proof read the book for grammatical and spelling errors. If you’ve got a sharp mind that can fill in missing words and don’t mind typos then give it a read... if you can’t keep scrolling and find something else.
Even better than the first book! I couldn't put it down and finished in one day! No new skills but he really started to learn what he could do with his Legacy. I can't wait until his next book to see Wick grow in strength! That gravity stuff from the first book seems so powerful I was a bit disappointed he didn't develop it yet but I understand why Outspan didn't give a child such an overpower skill to Wick yet.
Another fun read and good development. However, the editing in this second book was awful! It seems Ike the author simply wanted to release the book without anyone editing it. Grammar misuse. Misspellings. Incomplete sentences. All of this contributed to moments in the story that became unclear, unreadable, and disconnected. This is a five star story with 2 star editing...should be a three star rating...but I really like the story.
Im leaving a 5 star review because of the story. I would knock it down to a 3.5 if i could break it down because of editing issues. Misplaced words, misspelled words and a lot of other. Really distracted from the story. But it is still worth the read. And i will read the next as well. Just my personal hangup.
This is the second book in this series. I highly recommend you read the first before this. If you do not it will be very co fusing. That bei g said this is an fantastic continuation of this series. I love that the MC is the way he is and not afraid to hide what he wants to say. Cant wait for the next!
This was honestly pretty darn good. The action and the excitement in this book are Intense at times.I have no issues with the plot development or character development or the action. The only issue I have is the need for Editing in terms of grammar And spelling. And honestly seems Like there wasn't even spell check used.At least at times.
My only problem with this book was how Wick's engineering projects seemed to happen off-screen. So little time was devoted to his process that I often felt he was pulling tricks out of his nethers.
Aside from that niggle, I felt this story was even better than book one, even though it was half the length.
I am really tired of reading books where the author was too cheap to hire a proofreader. The story is good except that the number of sentence fragments and misused words (example: peak vs. peek) shows that nobody really reads these before they are put out for sale. Apparently nobody teaches irregular verbs anymore, either.
Amazing job taking a very damaged character and making him an excellent hero. I especially enjoy the glimpse of the future given in the first book and seeing it come about in the next one. Knowing the future in absolutely no way makes me less curious about how it comes to be. I can't wait to read the next one.
Great book let down by grammatical and spelling errors.
This would've been a solid 5 stars, with a great story and a fantastic set of world mechanics, but was let down by the constant grammatical and spelling errors. A few proof reads would've done wonders!
Nevertheless an enjoyable read, can't wait for the next one!
I stopped reading half way through this book because it is so poorly written,I couldn't go through it any more please get a good proof reader soon. I like the story line and the premise of the book I just can't stand all the bad word choices if you are able to fix your problems with the book I will be very happy to continue with the Series
I've waited for this book since the first one dropped and hope I dont have to wait so long for the next one. Great development with only a few editing errors. Really enjoyed the read.
I gave this 5 stars cause I read it like I eat food FAST and never enough. It was a surpise seeing it pop up in my recommended and knew i had to read it right then. Really enjoyed following the one perspective it was nice not to chop and chnage
However one of the things I really liked a out the first book was that it gave glimpses of the MC's future and had little bits of trivia and sayings mixed in this one didnt have those elements.
I love this character. I know it's a different take on a mc. A person who makes every person or thing an investment; an item. But I have to say I love it.
