"SLAVES OF FOOLS" (Book Three of the Antebellum Series) concludes the saga of the plantation owners, their slaves, and a myriad of other characters. Their individual, and sometimes collective, trials and tribulations are brought to life in this moving tale of riches, betrayal, and suspense. A surprising and suspenseful conclusion, to be sure!
When her husband died Colette had no idea who to trust with running the plantation. Her husband had signed a trust with his overseer. When she was made aware of it she was cautious but in time she started to trust him. As he continued to make decisions she was content to trust him. This was proved to be a very bad mistake.
I felt the story was predictable. It didn't offer any surprises or mystery. Just a basic retelling of historical facts of white men lusting after black female slaves, women in general not having any rights, and the basic ignorance of those who lived during that time period.
I have read literally hundreds of books on this subject matter, fiction and history. This is the most captivating series by far. Extremely well written. It captivated my imagination and left me hungry for more. I would recommend this book to all avid readers of historical fiction, especially plantation history in yhe South.
