Being forced to work alongside the new boss—an arrogantly cold Englishman—left me torn between fury and attraction.
When Oliver arrives to take over the company, I’m not about to idly stand by while he lays people off. Instead, I burst into his office to confront him, not expecting the man I encounter.
He’s every bit the asshole I’d envisioned, but I hadn’t realized he’d be a hottie with a panty-melting accent. But that doesn’t matter. I refuse to back down. Refuse to fall for his charm. He has his agenda, and I have mine.
But when my family’s well-kept secret, along with the debt my brother owes, puts my life in danger, there are no other options left. It’s up to me to pay the price. But not with money.
Unfortunately, there’s only one person who can help free me from this mess—my new boss.
I am going to start this review with how much I enjoyed Lana and Oliver story and this was a fantastic start to the series. This story has everything you could ask for from enemies to lovers with danger, steam and secondary characters you cannot help but want to know their stories too.
Oliver has been hired as temporary CEO of Starr Enterprises and to weed out the dead wood within the company, known for his bossy British attitude he knows his job and does it extremely well. But his heart is guarded after the betrayal of his wife and her death four years ago. He is bowled over by the feisty HR manager and the attraction that he feels is instant and the more time he spends with the one woman who challenges him the more he falls under her spell. Taken aback by his growing feelings can he convince Lana to give them a chance and when she is in danger will he arrive in time to save the woman he has fallen for against all the odds?
Lana has had to fight hard for the life that she has, always over looked by her brothers and father, she can’t help but still look for their approval, but suddenly there is Oliver the bossy British man who is there to get the failing company back on its feet but she feels seen in ways she never has before and this man that is invading her life as much as she tries to guard herself it’s not long until she can’t imagine her life without him by her side but he is only there temporary can she risk her heart on someone who is destined to leave and when trouble comes looking for her will she be able to survive to tell him how she really feels?
I really really loved this book and I have to say that this may be my favourite book by this author and I loved the sexy tycoon series. Cannot wait to read Caleb and Lucas’s stories. There was a great back story to both Oliver and Lana and a great twist to the story always builds intrigue. Highly recommended read and worthy 5*. I am voluntarily reviewing an advanced copy of this book.
Great story with strong characters! I love the story and had a hard time putting it down! Emelia Blair is one of the very best Contemporary Romance writers out there! She creates such in-depth characters with stories that are always different in one way or another. Her books are always on the To Be Read list!
Lana is head of HR. She isn't just the person who does the hiring and keeps all the paperwork in order, she takes an interest in every employee from the receptionist to the Head of Finance. She made a couple of friends while going through business courses and they have remained friends, Caleb, the entrepreneur and Lucas the attorney. Oliver, a Brit, is hired to clean out a new company of its excessive employees who are not beneficial to the company’s success. Lana is the American head of HR. The story shows how family can be the vilest of people in certain situations and saviors in others. Love, betrayal and independence play crucial roles in this story and Emelia shows how well women become dependent on no one.
Betrayal can leave scars that are soul crushing and impossible to overcome. The power of betrayal to hurt is the inverse of how deeply one loves and trusts. An individual can only be betrayed if love and trust have first been given to an unworthy and deceitful recipient.
Lana Hill knows betrayal. She has achieved and received honor and respect because of her integrity and work ethic as the manager of the HR department for Yulan, where she has established a climate of respect and fairness among the company’s employees. But, she struggles to receive similar respect and honor from her family. Ironically, the individuals who have known her the longest—her family—see her more as a family possession than a family member, a convenient commodity for the family’s use to help repay debts.
Similarly, Oliver Thornton, a man who appears to have everything—wealth, power, and looks—has been betrayed by the person who should have been most protective of his heart, his wife, Nyla. But the woman who should have cherished her husband’s love betrayed it, running away with her lover, taking with her, her husband’s unborn child.
Now, Lana and Oliver must learn to love and trust each other; however, they must first sort out the dynamics of a corporate takeover. Lana must represent and protect the hardworking employees of Yulan from the eye of the corporate gunslinger, Crisis CEO Oliver Thornton. His task is to root out the decaying and destructive elements and employees of Yulan in order to restructure the company and return a “fixed” company to its new owner, Caleb Starr under the watchful eye of the clever friend and lawyer, Lucas Black.
Emilia Blair’s romance Resisting the Brit begins the tale of enemies to lovers by introducing a set of characters who are friends and co-workers. In this first romance, Blair sets up the group of friends who will work to restructure Yulan, but more importantly work to support each other. I enjoyed the interesting characters Blair has crafted, but more development was needed to more tightly craft the backstories and events that serve as the impetus for the current plot complications.

I absolutely love this book! It grabbed a hold of me on page 1 and never let go, I just couldn't put it down! Full of love, lost, sass and family strife, it was a very enjoyable read. Lana is the head of HR for a company that is now owned by her friend Caleb. He has hired Oliver to act as CEO in the beginning to go through and restruction the old company. This puts him at odds with Lana as he will need to fire people she has worked with for the past 5 years. They start off as adversaries, constantly butting heads but soon, there is a fire between them that they are unable to put out. Add in her father and brothers who continue to force men at her and want her to quit her job. Things get tense when her brother Fred brings his friend Matt to her office, wanting her to go out on a date with him. She refuses and the situation escalates. Oliver intervenes on her behalf and sends both men away. As Oliver gets closer to Lana, Matt refuses to back down, even assaulting her in her office. This causes a huge rift between her and her family, especially when she learns exactly why her family keeps pushing her towards Matt. It comes to a head when she finds out the truth, that her family owes Matt a considerable amount of money. She agrees to settle the debt and then wants nothing to do with them. Oliver has been with her through all of this and it's become clear the two have very strong feelings for each other. They finally give in to them and become a couple, they are able to finally get rid of Matt and Lana is able to start mending her relationship with her family. Oliver even agrees to step in and help when she finds out her father has a serious medical condition. In the end, Lana finds out Oliver isn't going back home to London, as she feared, when his contract is up and the two move forward to get their happily ever after.

Oliver arrives at Starr Enterprise in preparation to better the company. That is what Caleb hires him for after all. But when he meets the fiery head of HR, Lana, his cold demeanor that he has carried since his wife’s death slowly starts to disappear. He is intrigued with her and her take no crap attitude and the more they get to know one another, the more he can’t deny his attraction.
Lana has fought to earn the position she has, she guards herself with her fiery disposition. Her father and brother, Fred, are making her miserable with the way they treat her - she is determined to not let anyone else treat her the same. When Oliver arrives though, there is a shift. There are sparks that she can’t deny and the more she gets to know him, just makes her want to know him more. How can she be attracted to a man that she is supposed to hate?
When a few shared drinks lead the two of them to a night of heated passion - Lana sees it as a mistake, but Oliver sees it differently. He is determined to fight for her, until she makes it clear to him that she wants nothing to do with him. Will Lana keep pushing Oliver away or will she finally take her walls down completely and let him in?
I LOVE this story by Emelia, this is going to be one of my favorite reads of the year and it is definitely my favorite read of hers (so far)!I absolutely adore Oliver - the hurt alpha man that truly has a heart of gold, even if it has been hardened from his past. Lana is a force to be reckoned with - I love her fiery attitude and fierceness and when Oliver broke down her protective walls I flipping melted into a heaping pile of goo. Their chemistry is off the charts and the smexy scenes between them are to die for. Emelia had me spellbound and glued thru the suspense of the story as well. Don’t even get me started on the side characters - Lucas and Caleb....I CAN’T WAIT to read their stories. I will definitely be revisiting Oliver and Lana’s story again in the future.

Enemies to lovers, office romance, a steamy encounter and a twist you just don't see coming. If all of these things are something you look for when you are in search of a new book to read, then Resisting the Brit is meant to be on your TBR list! Lana and Oliver had me laughing and swooning from the very beginning as they started as enemies and in a fast burn type of way, and ending up needing each other more than they would have ever liked to admit.
Since this is a new release, I won't give anything away, but just know that this book had all the things I needed for a good enemies to lovers romance that also has you on the edge of your seat because things aren't exactly what they seem.
Oliver is the typical growly alpha male that has a past that has him closed off from love. Then Lana bursts into his office and tilts his world in a way he didn't see coming. I absolutely loved the chemistry between these two, from the very start. Their banter only flames their sparks even more. And once the walls come down, the flames only get bigger and higher.
I do wish the timeline hadn't been so quick and I felt more of a slow-burn between the two, but that is just a personal preference and doesn't take away from the book at all. Emelia set these two up to be a force to be reckoned with and the fast burn they have is perfect for them. I like a good slow burn, but Lana and Oliver never stood a chance with each other.
Four stars for this steamy enemies to lovers romance that has a twist you just don't see coming.
Lana is not to be messed with! She is the head of HR and knows her job very well. So when Oliver is hired to come in and "clean" up the unnecessary baggage from the previous owner she is fighting mad when her first run-in with him, is when he comes to her office when she is out and drops off around 20 files with a note on top telling her that he is going to fire these people! She takes the note up to his office and demands an explanation! Letting him know that she is the one who does the firing not him. She also lets him know that she will be reviewing each of the files and will let him know if she agrees with his assessment. He comes to her office at 1am a few days later and notices her stacks one of which says he is a jerk who doesn't know what he is talking about. He tells her she is to go home as he has noticed that she works late too much. Everything seems to settle down after that and they seem to get on an equal footing. Then a few weeks later he hires himself a PA that he has worked with before, Valerie or "Val" as he calls her. When Val sends Lana an email telling her that Oliver needs to see her, she has just gotten two visitors, one her brother Fred the other a friend of his named Mike. When Oliver opens her door she is yelling at her brother and he has just taken a step to make her go with them. Oliver sees that he is hurting her so he steps in and removes him from her! He demands they both leave before he calls the police! What did she yell at her brother? Who is this Mike? What happens next? Only one way to find out, read this great story by Emelia Blair to find out. You wont be able to put it down till the last word and even then you will want to know what happens to several of the people who you have been introduced to: Elise for one and who has done the things to her that want to make you hit someone. Lucas the attorney who also happens to be a childhood friend of Lana. Caleb the owner of the company. Hanna, Lana's assistant. Oh so many people!
Stubborn vs Stubborn What happens when a bossy British CEO butts heads with a stubborn feisty redhead who just happens to be over HR. You have a meeting of the minds. Oliver has been hired to get Starr Enterprises back on its feet which means he may have to clean house, but not before he gets the approval from the head of HR Lana Hill. These two have instant chemistry from the beginning and I loved the way Lana stood her ground. She was very head strong, determined and didn’t take nothing off anyone. Oliver fell fast for Lana and her ways; he had never had anyone challenge him the way she did. Will Oliver be able to put what happened in his past to rest to allow himself to love again. Lana is faced with issues from her family that will cause trouble as well, will she allow this to break her down? How will she handle it? Emelia Blair brings us great main characters who really push each other’s buttons, but yet drive each other crazy with desire. I enjoyed the angst, banter and how they came to care for one another. She also brought us great secondary characters in Caleb, Lucas and Elise. I am anxious to hear their stories; I feel there are some lose ends that could be answered if we get their stories. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving my review.
Oliver is hired by Caleb as temporary CEO at Starr Enterprise to make the difficult decisions on personnel as they restructure to put the failing company in a better position to succeed. Lana is the head of HR and is concerned about the people she knows so well losing their jobs. So she confronts Oliver and amazes him with her feisty attitude as she loyally defends the employees.
The two of them are constantly at odds, but they become aware of the attraction building between them as their respect for each other grows. When Lana’s father and brothers continue to force a man named Matt at her, wanting her to date him, even to the point of bringing him to her office, the situation gets out of hand. Oliver steps in to protect her.
Eventually, Lana finds out why her family won’t stop pushing her towards Matt. She’s the source for repayment of a large debt they owe! Can she pay Matt off? Will she stop resisting Oliver when her fears that he will return to London when his contract is over are removed with his decision to stay?
This was an excellent book with an intriguing story line, wonderful characters, and enough suspense to keep the reader fully involved. Grab your copy and follow their story to see how it all resolves.
I received a free copy in exchange for a honest review.
I loved the story. Lana, the fiery, passionate HR person and Oliver, an imposing man with pain hidden in his eyes are a great couple. I love that although others are intimidated by Oliver she doesn't back down from him. Being with her, Oliver realizes that she is healing him from the inside.
This enemies to lover story moves quickly. The mystery surrounding the men in the story is a great hook, leaving us waiting for each's backstory in the next book. Lana's relationship with her family felt very real. She was crushed that her father and brothers looked at her at someone's future wife and mother rather than the accomplished woman that she is. She has a fire in her and much more in her background with Caleb and Lucas that would be interesting to see.
The bickering between Oliver and Lana is witty, smart and quick and you can feel the passion. Their physical relationship is very similar.
This is the first book in the series, each exploring the men. I first read the 4th one and the mystery behind the character left me wanting more story. Emelia Blair crafted the characters so well we want to find out their hidden secrets. The story is a stand alone with a HEA. Definitely worth a read.

I loved reading Resisting the Brit by Emelia Blair. It was such a great story about Lana and Oliver. it was filled with passion, steamy romance suspense and mystery. When they first meet, they clash at everything. Oliver is a bull in a china shop and Lana is trying to put out the fires that Oliver is lighting. Lana works in Human Resources and is outraged at the amount of people that Oliver is wanting to fire. But Lana realizes that the people need to be fired in order for the company to profit. But as they try to work together, they realize each of them has feelings for each other, but no one wants to admit it. Lana has some issues with her family to the point where it becomes dangerous. The book had a lot of twists and turns and some mystery to it and I was on edge towards the end. I loved reading this story because of the passionate scenes but also the mystery of it. It kept me wondering what was going to happen next. It was a great story that I highly recommend reading.

This book will hook you from the start. Lana is an amazing woman that doesn't cower before anything and/or anyone. Oliver has had to become strong since he was broken and he has, but he couldn't anticipate meeting Lana. When they both meet it's like adding gas to a fire. I couldn't believe that the office building didn't catch on fire. You'll be caught in between the pages of this book before you know it. Oliver and Lana are so great that I couldn't believe how quick I finished the book. I wish there were more to their story, but I'm happy that they each got their happily ever after. I received a free copy from the author and reviewed voluntarily.
Wow! This a great story to read! Definitely pulls you in & takes you on a wild but exciting roller coaster ride of emotions! Oliver & Lana have the verbal sparring matches, wanting to be the one who wins. There are mysterious visits from her brothers, pushing her to be with their best choice at matchmaking. Ain't gonna happen! Her heart belongs elsewhere. More secrets are revealed as the story moves along & Lana seems to be in a tight bind with tough decisions for her to make. Having a HEA seems impossible or is it?

Strong, Gutsy Main Female Character With Strong Broody Alpha Males
This was a well written story, that flowed along smoothly and was a pleasure to read. All the characterizations were clearly done, each unique and easily differentiated from one another. The love story between the fiercely independent and strong main female character and the broody, alpha main male character was not without angst but they forged through obstacles together to attain their happily ever after.

This book was sensational! This was my first time reading a book by author Emelia Blair but I thoroughly enjoyed reading it! Oliver Thornton and Lana Hill were wonderful characters! Oliver is British, handisome, a sharp businessman, and a billionaire. He accepts a temporary position as a Crisis CEO to help recover a company from tanking. Lana Hill is over the HR department and a permanent fixture. Nothing gets by her. She is fiesty, loyal, hot-headed, and fights for what she believes in tooth and nail. At first, Oliver and Lana get along about as well as oil and water. Somewhere along the way they start enjoying each others company. Lana has secrets about her family. Things start going south for her due to her family and she needs help. Oliver is the one to come to her aide. This book is a must read and I highly recommend!
Okay, I’m trying to gather my thoughts after having just finished this book and I’m still fanning myself! Oliver is, for me, the perfect Brit. Everything about him and how his character was written drew me in and kept me hyper focused on this book. If this book were to be available as an audiobook, I’d want a copy just to here Oliver in all his sexy glory and that delicious accent! Lana was incredible! She was a sassy spitfire! My favorite scene in this book was when Oliver helped Lana with her zipper. Ohh, the sexual tension!! There was a lot going on in the background, some of which lead to major confrontation later on, but the romance was always center stage. I really hope that there will be a book about Elise and (hopefully) Lucas since we never got any hard answers about what happened with her.

If we could rate higher I would. All the major players were so interesting, they made me want to read their stories. I purchased Caleb's. Hope they don't end there. It's refreshing to read about a strong independent woman who doesn't lose her softer side. It was also nice to find a man who is tough with a vulnerable side. Lana and Oliver's story kept me invested throughout the whole book. I don't know about you, but sometimes I skip to the last third of a book of the story isn't that interesting. Not this book. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Happy reading!
Wow what a fantastic story I loved it it’s about betrayal, love and a family who look at you as a commodity that’s Lana’s life and Oliver who has been betrayed by his wife who runs away with her lover. Oliver is Lana’s boss there is a corporate takeover and Lana is representing the workers of Yulan so they don’t lose their jobs. There is so much going on in this story but I’m not going to get into all of it so I’ve just given you the gist to this story, it’s a fantastic read and I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.
This was an entertaining book. Butting heads is what you have in an office setting. Attraction that is off the chart. Two alphas one male one female. This story had me on the end of my seat wondering what was going to happen with the two of them. Now lets put in a brother and a friend. That is another book in itself. Family drama, shouts, demands and some force, and an alpha that not having none of this stuff in the office. Great book. Wondering whats going to happen next in this book? You will have to get the book, you will not be disappointed.

Resisting the Brit by Emelia Blair was a delicious treat. I gave this book 5 stars! I loveeeddd it, this story had the right amount of everything, I was hooked from the first chapter until the end! This was all about office romance with Arrogant man, fiesty woman, family drama, lots of bantering, steamy dreamy hotness, some blackmailing and a crazy guy. There's some emotional moments in the mix that will pull at your heartstrings!! This was a stand alone, with no cliffhangers!
Resisting the Brit by Emelia Blair is an awesome read. captivating, intriguing, fun hot and steamy with a bit of action and suspense that will put you on edge while reading; an office romance story of Lana and Oliver that you couldnt put it down and hooked you from start to finish, great book to start the series and i cannot wait for the next one!! well done!

Lana is the head of HR for the company she works at and Oliver is the new CEO who is in charge of restructuring the company. Lana doesn’t like the fact that he is laying off people and goes to confront him about it. Soon sparks are flying between them and when Lana’s family is causing issues for her, he is there to help her. Can they leave their baggage behind and move forward together? Fast-paced read with plenty of drama and great chemistry. I liked it.
This is book one in the Dirty Hot Resistence series. Oliver is taking over the company she works for and Lana has designated herself as the resident pitbull that is going to make sure everyone is looked after and can hopefully keep their jobs. What Lana is not prepared for is Oliver himself, he is younger than expected and that accent.....dang it. These two remind me of the playground jerk that would pick on you and pull your hair because he liked you. They feed off each other, it makes for some entertaining reading. I loved it. As the story unfolds, it heats up and their relationship grows and changes. When Lana need a person to trust and depend one, she chooses Oliver. A great story that is well written and flows smoothly. Rhe characters were awesome, they contained multiple layers that you get to experience throughout the story. I cannot wait to read the next story in the series. Enjoy!

This is definitely a story I don't regret taking the time to read. I loved the fiery personalities of the main characters as well as their ruthlessness, shark-like qualities. I couldn't be happier on how they presented themselves as one of the top in their specific field, while having the quirky relationship beyond business. I loved the fact that a lot of the sexist issues were introduced here. I like how family by blood and family by choice were highlighted here. How the past was settled and how the characters reacted to support each other, subtle or blatant, was absolutely brilliant! It was amazing to see how a romantic relationship bloomed, without truly asking any of the persons involved to change who they really were. I'm looking forward to the next stories of this series. This book set the expectation for me.

This was a great read. I loved how strong Lana was. She wouldn’t take anything from anyone, not even family. Sometimes a strong female character comes across a bit bitchy. But not in this case. You saw her vulnerable side too, her softer side. She didn’t like Oliver to begin with, but I’m glad that didn’t last long. I also liked how close she was with Caleb and Lucas. Their friendship was amusing.
Oliver, what can I say. I loved Oliver. I loved that he was a bit arrogant but not to the point of coming across nasty. I liked how his ex was a part of the story, but wasn’t a huge “thing” in the background that they had to overcome.
I can’t wait to read Caleb and Lucas' stories.

Oh my goodness this book was so dang good. The banter between these 2 characters is outstanding. I don't know how you did it but I've rarely seen chemistry like that in real life yet you hit it spot on in this one. They give us love, hope, sadness and angry but in the end love is the one to overcome it all. I can't wait to read Caleb's story. I give it 5 stars. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book as an Advanced Reader's Copy.
