Cavek, youngest son of the Troll King of the Middling Kingdom, never thought he would fall in love with a human, but when he sees Kate, he knows that she is his fated bloodbonded mate. They have one perfect night and he promises to return for her, but when he is delayed for a year in returning for her, he does not know how welcoming she will be. Amid war brewing with the werewolves, he has a mate to woo and an infant son to claim. How hard can it be? When her best friend Sammi came home with an orc husband, Kate didn’t know what to think. As an avid reader of all things pertaining to folklore and high fantasy she didn’t imagine anything dealing with orcs and trolls to be good news; yet, she was surprised to find that they were nothing like she’d ever been led to believe—especially not a sinfully sexy troll named Cavek. One night of passion is all they had before he returned to his world with whispered promises to return. When she discovers she is pregnant she adjusts her life to the expectation of having to raise a troll baby on her own. A year later she wakes up in a strange world and a troll determined to be her forever one and only. He says they are fated to be together, and now they have a son to raise, but time will only tell if love will find a way.
S.J. Sanders is a mom of two toddlers and one adult living in Anchorage, Alaska. She has a BA degree in History, but spends most of her free time painting, sculpting, doing odd bits of historical research, and writing. While she has more research orientated writing under another pen name, her passion is sci-fi and paranormal romance of which she is an avid reader. After years of tinkering with the idea, and making her own stories up in her head, S.J has began to seriously pursue writing as an author of Sci-fi Romance utilizing her interests in how cultures diversify and what they would look like on a extraterrestrial platform to humans interacting with them and finding love.
Right. So apparently the Trolls were supposed to be something like this,
Only, taller
and greener
and more lust inducing (there's a specific word for this-Don't ask me what)
The pink hair stays though
So this apparently (Oh so sue me, this is the closest thing I could find to a "pretty" Troll -_-)
Looking back I probably liked this one better than The Orc Wife. I was definitely prepared for our h to be a slutty mess of a lead but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. There was nothing OTT about her, in fact I thought she was a prefect balance of being both a Mom and her own individual self. I liked our Troll too. I especially liked that his personality didn't change from the previous book. He didn't get all weird and serious and grumpy.
All that said, I couldn't wait for the book to be over. And I don't know why. Because quite honestly it could just be me getting all antsy under lock-down and projecting onto the book. But it could also be the book cause there were parts that needed to bounced off a sounding board and some solid editing.
Cavek, youngest son of the Troll King of the Middling Kingdom, finds his fated mate in human and single mother - Kate. Kate for her part is more than just a little attracted to Cavek. They share one heated night before Cavek has to return home due family obligations, vowing to return he never expects it to take a year to make it back to Kate. On his return he is delighted to find he has a son, even as he is pained at having missed much.
I liked how Cavek and Trolls more broadly were so accepting of children, he doesn't blink at the fact that Kate has a daughter.
There were some corny lines in this that made me wince, but luckily such lines weren't frequent. I do wish there had been more development when it came to Kate desiring Cavek to realising she loved him, the move didn't feel smooth. I also feel the consequences of Cavek being captured and tortured weren't weaved into the plot like they should have been.
This was ok as a one time read, but the romance, action, and betrayal didn't pulsate off the page as I would have liked.
This was such a spectacular romance book. I couldn't put it down to study, go to work, do household chores. I had to give someone my Kindle so I could force myself to stop reading so I could adult (😒).
The world building, the love story, the evolution of these characters was absolutely well done. I felt like I knew all the characters personally.
This was just as great, if not better than the first book, The Orc Wife, which is saying a lot, because that book was impossible to put down too.
I will definitely be reading more of SJ Sanders. I can't believe it took me so long to finally read one of her books. I've been missing out on so much!!! 😍
It was interesting seeing the events from the last book overlap in this one, but with a new perspective. The whole sister thing felt a bit off to me, but overall I really liked these two characters.
I can't believe this book is less than 200 pages. S.J. Sanders has a way of writing that makes the book seem much longer , in a good way. She writes the storyline and does the world building so incredibly well I'm such short of amount of time. I can't wait for the rest of the series and I definitely want to read about the unicorn.
*WARNING* contains adult explicit adult sexual situations Kate has always like fantasy. Boukie's father was dressed as a troll when they met and that was what she was attracted to! When Kate's BFF came home with a new husband that wasn't human and he brought a real, honest to goodness troll with them, WELL! Kate was ecstatic to see her friend, but she was more than a little curious about that troll. Cavek was tired of his mom setting him up female after female, so when this trip to the human realm became available, he was making sure that he was able to go. Cavek was curious about the little human that the Orc mated, but when he saw her friend Kate....curiosity became more. Oh my gosh! I read book one, "The Orc Wife" and loved it, but I like this one even better. Kate's situation with her child was very relatable. What Cavek went threw for a whole was gut wrenching. My heart broke for Kate as well during that year. Boukie or Rebecca was a shining light in this story, she said little things to give her everyone hope, if they would just listen. I hoped, cried and laughed with these characters. I don't know how Ms. Sanders could make the next one any better, but I am eager to read it. RECOMMENDED
I enjoyed a lot about this book, including the lore. Cavek was a sweetie and I loved him and Kate was a fiercely protective mother. However, there were a couple of plot holes that kinda drove me crazy and took me out of the story.
Spice: 4/5
Triggers: violence, gore, kidnapping, captivity, torture, attempted SA, involuntary voyeurism, starvation including of infants, pregnancy, death of infants (off page), execution, animal attack
The near rape scene was pretty unfun though and wouldve appreciated a warning for that shit but overall the book was great the world building was great and i love the natural flow of each new mate bloodbond thing.
Pretty insane to find out boukie is gonna be in her own book. Awesome but insane. And i loved the touch of the grown up kids like courting etc. Ah the epilogues really give me life and frankly a good epilogue and a lengthy hea filled one is worth way more than a good chapter. So epilogues cover multitude of sins imo.
Abosolutey love and will continue with this series.
& gonna check out the rest of the authors work cause wowzer does her writing mesh with want i need and want in a book.
This is the second book on S.J Sanders bran new series “A monsterly your romance”, this book follows our favorite troll Cavek who was introduced in The Orc Wife and Kate who is Sammi best friend. The story slows down a couple of times but is easy to follow, of course, I will say is not as good as the first book but is right up there.
I'm loving this series so freaking much!! This book definitely pulled on my heartstrings! Adventure, suspense and heartache - makes for such an amazing story.
Another fast paced adventure, with multiple elements to the plot. The human h falls for a troll. He's more beta than Alpha, but he does show his passion for her, easily accepts her child, and quickly gets her pregnant. Evil characters abound, luckily the h is strong and shows her ability to adapt to changing circumstances. I liked it but found myself skimming due to strong telling style of writing.
Where I thought the 1st in series was more like 2 books smashed together, this one felt like it flitted all over. I didn't feel like anything really got its proper acknowledgement. Really horrible things happened but it was basically skimmed over, and now we dive back into the f*cking.
If a chick was raped and tortured in a book for MONTHS I would expect that character to have real emotional scarring/trauma to over come and I would be on board to read her journey of healing. Not two weeks of recoup and a couple of follow up night terrors. It felt dismissive (maybe because it was a male that this happened to?? which if I'm thinking it, maybe??) but I can also see where the author TRIED. This certainly wasn't the only instance of this but just one example. IDK, was disappointed.
There were a lot of really good points to the book. The world is so diverse and will definitely afford this author a TON of opportunities to branch off in any tangent they like. Any time an author mentions Tolkien, my nerdy girl heart connects to them in a big way. I also liked the interactions with other characters more in this book.
Oh my gosh I just loved Kate and Cavek’s story. They were so good together and so sweet. I absolutely loved the world building and all the supporting characters. This story was so well constructed and fascinating. I am anxiously awaiting the next book in this series. I highly recommend this book and this series.
I adore S.J. Sanders books ! Troll Bride is lusty , fun , adorable with a side of betrayal and adventure . I recommend this book and the first book . I look forward for the next book.
HERO /HEROINE Kate is a single mother who is more than content to be a single mom and has flings every now and again. Until she meets a troll and he turns her world upside down.
Cavek is the youngest child of the royal family, he has been pushed upon female trolls by his mother and father since he was of age. None ever enticed him. Until he went to the human world and set his eyes on Kate and Boukie.
REPRESENTATION Strong family values. Women supporting women. Emotionally mature hero (omg love when the reader is graced with that)
OVERALL THOUGHTS Absolutely love Cavek as the main love interest. There is an endless list of the positive attributes he has. Not only is he strong and hot he is also kind and sweet. Every encounter he had with Boukie and Cavekji melted my heart. Cavek crying and being emotional with Kate was really sweet as well. In a lot of the romances I read the hero can be so shallow with his emotions, or able to only show anger or indifference. Cavek shows a wide range of emotions throughout the entire book and as a male character, he is mature and respectful of his friends and family.
Boukie’s relationship with everyone is so endearing and I loved the moments she was present. “Boukie, really? A troll? Wouldn’t you rather be… I don’t know… a princess?” The little one pauses to think for a second and then nods her head emphatically. “Yes, Nana. A troll princess,”
WHAT I DIDN’T LIKE Thrown off by the very end when our villain popped up out of nowhere. I also feel like we missed a few scenes. Sometimes the time jumps were sudden.
I make enough to cover basic bills for our little apartment and if I hustle, I can make enough in tips to afford a few indulgences. Here Kate is talking about how she manages being a single mother, with a child in school, a two bedroom apartment, living in ALASKA ($$$) all on a coffee barista salary. Like, in what world is that feasible.
Also, I feel like Kate was so go with the flow, easy peasy. The way I would be FURIOUS with my one night stand if he reappeared over a year later and kidnapped me, my daughter and my 2 month old baby. I WOULD BE IRATE. Also, when Kate meets Madi, Cavek’s mother. Madi takes the baby from Kate’s arms like a second after introducing herself, grabs Boukie and walks off like, “I got em.” NO WAY. That’s a stranger, in a strange world, and it’s so weird that a mom would be so comfortable enough to be like, sure take my kid. Idk if that’s me growing up with trauma but I hardly feel safe leaving my kids at school or in a daycare these days.
FAVORITE QUOTES:This sandwich innovation I must share with my brethren. It is a truly clever and tasty way to concoct a small midday repast.
SAFETY
AGE: I think they are both in their thirties.
SEXUAL HISTORY: Both are not virgins. Kate has a daughter.
CONDOMS: No
HEAT LEVEL: 3/5 vaginal sex, oral, exhibitionism
PUSH/PULL: No
SEPARATION: Yes, they were separated for over a year, and then they were separated for I would estimate a week.
CHEATING: No
OW (Other Woman)/OM (Other Man) drama: No
SEX SCENE WITH OW/OM: No
ABUSE: Both Kate and Cavek were kidnapped and abused physically, emotionally and Kate was sexually assaulted. I think it is insinuated that Cavek was as well because he talks about the trauma and how ashamed he felt being tortured. Especially when the guard who sexually assaults Kate was the guard who tortured Cavek and he says some stuff that makes it seem like he did humiliating things to Cavek.
POSSIBLE PET PEEVES/TRIGGERS torture, drugging someone against their will, PTSD, scars, blood, feces, pregnancy, starving to death (infants, mothers), talk of rape (present)
Omg I really love this series! I fell in love with Orcs in the last book and now the Trolls have sparked my curiosity😍 Kate is Sammi's best friend from the last book, she a free spirit with an awesome daughter that steals the show with cuteness and craziness you will love her! Kate had a romance with a bad boy who wasn't a total bad guy but got caught in the the for his crimes. They both decide that being together is not what's best for her or their daughter. So Kate works hard at a coffee house to provide what she can for her daughter. When Sammi goes missing she's heart broken until Sammi's mom calls her and tells her she found and you won't believe who she's brought home with her. Of course when she goes to see her friends she suddenly surrounded by Orcs and a very sexy troll that catches her eye as well as her daughters. Cavek is a troll Prince who comes to the human realm with Sammi and her mate to see if he too might find someone to share his heart. The minute he lays his eyes on Kate and her daughter he knows that they belong to him. Cavek does his best to court Kate and they share a magical night together. when human start to show there distrust and attack Sammi He must leave but he promises to come back for both his girls. When Cavek returns home he informs his family that he has a human mate and wish to go back and get her. I don't want to give too much away but circumstances will keep our couple part for a bit and they are painful and will have repercussions. But once mate and Cavek are together again they will work through any struggles together. All with the danger there are moments of Stu king passions and out right laughter! Well worth the read💖💖 I can't wait o read about the werewolf in the next novel!💖💖
I thoroughly enjoyed this! The characters, the ever evolving world, the plot twist, the light work building, and small magicks. Now that I’ve read the second book in this series I can appreciate the depth that has gone into creating this world where multiple species live & mingle amongst each other. There is politics & war mongering, battling tribes & enemies. I was not expecting the dark side that showed up in this.
If you don’t want to read my whole review here’s what I loved: ⭐️Mature Main characters ⭐️Single mother with a wild & hilarious toddler daughter ⭐️Protective, family man Troll MMC ⭐️ Politics between species & within each species ⭐️Light world building ⭐️Adventure & battles ⭐️Found & made family 🌶️ Juicy sex scenes 🌶️Pixies dust aphrodisiac 🌶️Pierced member
This story does have some time hops in the beginning so that we don’t have to rehash all the things from the first book as these characters do crossover. I REALLY appreciated that! ❗️There are darker themes in this one: captivity, torture, alluded Gr@pe. I was surprised by that but it was welcomed bc it added more depth to the story. This gives cozy Romantasy but with an epic battle of “where is my wife” vibes 👏🏼🗡️🩸
I ADORE Cavek, his instant and genuine care for Boukie, Kate’s human daughter. His love for her is so sweet & he just takes on the roll if father so effortlessly. And then later when we get a new addition, his admiration for Kate, his longing for the time he missed was just 🥹🥹🥹😭😭😭
I ended hi shedding some tears with this one. Especially at the end I couldn’t help the happy tears that came up.
I love this series so far and I’m so excited to move into the next creature!
This book will be hard for me to review. On the one hand, I like this author, or most of her books that I read. On the other hand, I was waiting for the other shoe to drop when I finished the first book, because it was so light and fluffy. This author will throw dark curveballs. Nowhere did it felt more incongruous than in this book.
:::SPOILERS::::
The issue I had curbed my enjoyment was the fact that the mmc was tortured and raped repeatedly for months before he was rescued by his brothers, and then had zero issues except for a few nightmares.
One minute he’d be remembering the ordeal, and next we have a spice scene. It was too much whiplash for me. I felt that it wasn’t necessary to this story, how it was done. Captivity and torture is one thing. Further terribleness took me into women’s lit territory, where bad things happen to good characters and you get to fester in it more often than not.
The only reason I didn’t dnf was because I wanted to know the rest of the story and how it would overall fit in the series.
One other thing I want to mention is that the author’s notes mentions the mmc’s brother, Serus, would get his own book. So far I don’t see that has happened. Hopefully it does.

In the second book of this series we get the story of Cavek and Kate. We already knew from book one that something was going on between them so I was very much looking forward to this book.
The story starts around the end of the first book but I think the author did well with writing it so nothing felt repetitive.
After the beginning we don’t know what’s to come and to be honest I didn’t expect what came. It was pretty dark but the author didn’t go much in detail which made the whole situation much better to digest.
Overall I love this story a lot. I love that there is not much drama between the two but it’s the outer world they have to take on.
I love Kates little daughter, she is such an energy-ball and I can’t wait to read her own story once it gets released.
There were a few side characters I came to love and of course we also got to meet Sammi and Orgath again (who are the mcs in book one). I also loved to see pixies mentioned a few times since I already read the 4th book and consider it my favorite so far.
This book was such a delight to read, it was gripping, sad and had funny moments. Definitely a book I see myself re-reading in a few years.
Though this book can standalone w/HEA for the couple, the series is best read in order as there's overarching storylines and recurring cast. For instance, the FMC in this book is the best friend of the FMC in the last book- the MMC in this book is the troll who helped saved the day in the last book as well.
The FMC is a single mom of a little girl named Boukie. After one night with the troll, she gets preggo and the troll never comes back like he promised until a whole year passes.
Cavak the troll didn't come back for a year because he was captured & made to suffer.
Can they start anew in the troll world or will the troll society be just as brutal as the human one?
Boukie was my fav character in this book, so cute and mischievous. I loved the part where the couple explore and get to know one another too.
But I wasn't fond of the 3rd act dilemma, or how it went down. I would've preferred more happiness before it went negative again.
I loved the pixies!! And can't wait to get to that book. I'm unsure whether I'll like a werewolf book or not.
Overall it was an awesome book and I'll continue the series.
Read what makes you happy! And then tell me about it lol.
I didn’t enjoy this as much as the first one. Where it was mostly a cute romance, this was darker and not in a way that made a ton of sense. It could have been better, I think, if the aftermath of Cavek’s imprisonment was an impetus for Kate to fall for him but the “courtship” was rushed and weirdly resolved. It felt very much like instant love when she pushed for them to know each other better. I would say it’s out of character but we never learned much about her or her backstory beyond how she got Boukie.
Beyond that, the violence in this one felt gratuitous since it didn’t really add anything to the plot beyond excessive length. I think all of the major plot points could have been hit without the rambling feeling if an editor had been allowed free reign here. The time jumps at the end also felt confusing and unnecessary — like filler that no one asked for. All in all, definitely a disappointing departure from how the series began.
2.5/5 stars
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I had tolerated the first book since it was relatively short and honestly boring but the blatant lack of a TW for forced imprisonment and implied month-long SA is unacceptable. Had the author chosen to go into more explicit detail I would have dnf'd. It added literally nothing to the story, is hardly acknowledged as an event that occurred by other characters, and cannot be justified as character development since the MMC behaves exactly the same as he did before the trauma. To say this has a true plot would be a lie. The characters are bounced around from event to event haphazardly. All of which are half baked and not thought through. There are plot holes throughout this entire book. Additionally, the author missed many opportunities for world building and lore. I would encourage you to read literally anything else as this author seems incapable of doing any sort of story justice.
4.5 stars We met Cavek the troll prince in book 1 and see his connection with Sammi's best friend Kate. They even get a chance to hook up before the Orcs have to go back home to their world/dimension.
Book 2 starts off with a bit of a time jump. Kate ended up getting pregnant with Cavek's child and he's now born and super cute. Kate feels devastated that Cavek never came back for her.
Poor Cavek had every intention of going back for his bloodbonded but his dad sends him on a mission and he ends up getting abducted by crazy werewolves. He gets tortured for over a year before his brother can rescue him.
I loved this story and little Boukie is adorable. I want a troll of my own please.
"The Troll Bride" by S.J. Sanders is a solid second installment in this series. It continues the mix of humor, fantasy, and romance that made the first book so much fun.
I really loved the characters in this one. They were well-developed, and their interactions felt genuine, making the story even more engaging. The troll world was also vividly described, adding to the overall enjoyment.
While I didn’t find it quite as gripping as "The Orc Wife," it was still a great read that kept my attention from start to finish. The pacing was good, and the plot had a nice balance of adventure, tension, and romance.
Overall, I’m giving "The Troll Bride" 4 stars. It’s a strong follow-up, and I’m looking forward to seeing what happens next in this series!
had read Orc Wife and loved Cavek's character and just had to hear his and Kate's story. I was not disappointed. This beautiful story was a wonderful romantic story of love delayed but not lost. Cake and Kate definitely earn their way through the trials thrown in their paths. The story is a good adventure with magic, many legendary creatures and don't forget the passion between this troll and strong single mother. I look forward to more from this series so many other characters I would love to hear their stories as well.
It is so freaking cute + low angst which I love! Only complaint I had was I just wished it was edited a tad bit more but again, it still didn't take away from the story. It is vastly different than the first book. I really liked how the plot showed that they were apart for 1 year because of Cavek's captivity. Cavek is absolutely sweet + romantic towards Kate + I really loved their love story. I think Boukie stole the show + I liked how the epilogue addresses what happens in the years that follow. I really love this series + I really like SJ Sander's writing style.
This story has all the emotions. Is full of danger, war, some deep emotions and trauma and a wonderful HEA. I enjoyed this story so much. Cavek was not the trolls usually depicted and in such and awesome and sexy way. I love the strong females and the not so perfect moments the author puts the characters through to overcome. The result a rich storyline that keeps you swiping! Reviewed by Who She Reads
This story was meh. While I did enjoy it slightly more than the Orc Bride, it was pretty flat in terms of characters and plot tbh. Kate and Cavek had almost no personality. Her 6 yr old had more character than both of them combined. Also what kind of nickname is Boukie for Rebecca 😭
They had some sweet parts but honestly most of the story isn’t very memorable. The spicy scenes were also mediocre in my opinion.
