Making Whoopie

Rate this book
This marriage of convenience is about to get sticky.

Getting hitched for the health insurance is not Jocelyn Asher’s idea of romance.

But the hospital quote has really frosted her cookies, and suddenly, “I’m rich. We should just get married,” sounds a whole lot more swoony.

Especially when the man proposing is this gorgeous. And takes her to parties featuring champagne and petit fours. She’s a sucker for anything with bubbles or icing. And just like that she finds herself married to a near stranger.

Grant Lorre is usually allergic to spontaneity.

So why did he ask the beautiful small-town baker he had a one-stand with to marry him? Somehow watching her lick batter off a whisk--not a euphemism--made a wedding and a little fraud seem like a sweet idea.

They’ll just play house and make some whoopie--pies, of course--for a few months and then move on with their separate lives. Until then, bring on the cream filling. And that is a euphemism.

But as things heat up even outside of the kitchen, they quickly realize there’s no recipe to follow when it comes to love.

Making Whoopie is on its way!! I can't wait for you guys to get to know Josie and Grant better! I know I've teased you about them both, I know you've "met" them both and even got a peek at them together before this, but you are in for a big treat (yes, a little bakery pun there ;) ) when you finally get to see them on page together!

I love writing the big, serious guys who think they've got it all together and have no time for romance and then meet The One who changes his mind about...everything. Grant is that guy. And Josie is that girl ;)

They are definitely an opposites attract romance--one of my favorite things! (esp when one of them is a big city guy who's stuck in a small town for a bit ;) ) But they also happen to be my first marriage of convenience! Why have I not written a marriage of convenience before? I love reading them and now I've discovered how much fun they are to write!

If you love big-hearted, protective-in-spite-of-themselves, dirty-talking, alpha guys you are going to love Making Whoopie!

And then there's Josie. Josie and I would totally be friends. Totally. She's an amazing baker so... duh. But also she's this sweet-but-not-too-sweet, loving, happy person who you just want to be around.

Grant definitely thinks so. From the first time he meets her, he knows that if he spends any amount of time with her-- or tries her cupcakes ;) (literally and figuratively) -- he'll never want to leave.

He's right.

They have an instant chemistry and it was so fun to watch it turn into more!

And yes, there are whoopie pies. Eventually. The first time they try to make them they... get a little distracted. Cake batter can be so fun after all ;)

Oh, and yes, you'll also get to see all the girls and guys from the series again (and get to know a couple of them better!).

I can't wait to get Making Whoopie into your hands! Thanks to everyone who has taken the first two trips to Appleby, Iowa in Sugarcoated and Forking Around and your love for this little town and these people!

5 Stars Plus 5 More SuperHero SpreadSheet Stars
* * * * * PLUS * * * * * Spoiler Free, I Promise
Yes, This Book Deserves TEN, Count Them, TEN Stars. FOR REAL. It has everything you could want in a Romance/Sexy book. No One Writes romantic sexy scenes like Erin Nicholas. Other authors have their ways and I love them. But that is not what I am here to discuss. Erin Nicholas is the WOMAN of the HOUR and she knows exactly what she is doing.

She makes a man who is smitten and can't believe he is overwhelmed with desire for this woman. She also makes this man determined to have others see women as a whole, independent, capable, and secure ON THEIR OWN without the need of a man to provide it. If that isn't a superhero man, I do not know what is.

There is so much to this book, it is staggering in how subtle and yet obvious the way it is presented...and that's how magnificent the crafting is by Ms. Nicholas. She gives you all the elements you expect, but so much more.

She makes me feel just like all the customers of Jocelyn's cakes feel when they first see them, waves of happiness and joy. I could use so many other words but won't. It would make this review too long.

If you have been reading this series, AND YOU SHOULD, then you already know the basics...4 guys who came together in college and invented a game and made a ton of cash.
Two were from a small town in Iowa and two were not. We have already had two of the men meet their ONE and have relocated from Chicago to this town.

The main thrust of this entry is Grant and Jocelyn, two very different people. Grant, the practical, levelheaded one of the group. He keeps the guys on track when things are about to go off the rails. He is the financial genius and wants everything taken care of. He looks out for the group and it pleases him when he makes sure things go as planned.

Jocelyn is someone who has lived all her life in this small town. She works with her best friend at the bakery her friend owns. She is creative and does everything her friend Zoe isn't inclined to...expert decorating and encouraging Zoe to think outside that well-constructed box of recipes.

These two people are drawn to each other but never act on it until they do. And when they do...
%$#^@^$@%$#@%$# OMFG $$#@%^$@%$@%$

The main reason for the story is outlined in the blurb. It is the catalyst for Grant and Jocelyn to experience and learn about each other. To understand what makes them tick and then have things get complicated for a number of very interesting reasons.

All things become clear in the end and we have our HEA, no worries, but we also have incredible insight into things that can be taken as life lessons long after the glow of this book is over.

That is a talent of Ms. Nicholas and it is on full display. She makes Grant a Superhero not needing a cape or mask...He has PowerPoint as his special weapon. He has Spreadsheets as tools. They all work in so many ways. Oh, and he has the Dirtiest of Mouths, Yum.

Jocelyn is no slouch, either. She matches tit for tat with Grant, toe to toe in desire and smarts.

The next book is set up beautifully in this one. It promises to be a doozy with Cam and Whitney, two who loved once, who still do, and who need to have their second chance. Can't Wait.

STOP reading reviews and grab this book right now!!

This story checked off every single box my romance-loving-heart adores: a gruff, (slightly) grumpy hero; a sunny, sassy heroine; a fake relationship that never felt fake and an ending so perfect I started reading the book all over again as soon as I finished. Plus steamy scenes so hot, I needed a fan for my over heated Kindle.

Erin Nicholas has created a truly remarkable series with Hot Cakes. A quirky small town, heartfelt friendships and fun but substantial characters make this series a must read. The steamy scenes in this book are nicely balanced with lots of romance and emotion. This story is pure magic and I absolutely loved it!

I can't wait to see what happens in Appleby next!

I've thought long and hard on how to rate this book since it seemed difficult at times to relate to Josie but on the other hand the story in general was excellent.

When I noticed my bestie, Wendy had read it and raved about it...I knew I had to give it a shot and the blurb jumped out at me. Even though I'm not as freaked out as Wendy is about this book...I think it has something to do with her dirty, sexy mind 🥴 I still enjoyed the book and had a happy grin on my face at the end.

I think I'm more excited for the next book out about Cam and Whitney's story! I loved Cam and his troublemaker character!

Making Whoopie -- exactly the book my heart needed!

MAKING WHOOPIE is the third in Erin Nicholas's Hot Cakes series, about a group of five friends who step in to take over the Hot Cakes factory in Appleby, Iowa. Grant Lorre's the practical, stable, steady one, their financial rock, and the one who flies in to rescue the more playful and spontaneous Dax or Ollie... So whisking the very talented and lovely baker Jocelyn Asher off to marry her on a whim? Completely out of character.

Or is it?

Josie caught Grant's eye from the moment he arrived in Appleby, and his being on hand to literally catch her off a stepladder hasn't lessened that attraction one bit. Going from making whoopie pies to simply making whoopie? Well, that might just seal the deal.

MAKING WHOOPIE is an absolute delight. Josie and Grant seem at first glance to be nothing like the other, and not necessarily whom you'd envision together. But as Erin Nicholas does so well, she lets us see who these two are to their friends and families and then who they are and become to each other. And we come to see as clearly as they do that they're more fully themselves together, and that sometimes a spur of the moment decision just reveals what we already know is a perfect choice, forever. And the way they burn up the sheets (or the kitchen table ;) ) just reflects how well they connect other ways as well.

Ms Nicholas does more than tie these two up with hearts and flowers. Grant's seen many examples of how being in relationships has been terrible for the women in his life, and he strongly believes that women in particular are often better off on their own, that they don't need a man to live full, complete lives. Josie is an unrepentant romantic--she was blessed with a family full of strong, loving relationships, and she wants that for herself. As these two figure out how to allow who they are to shape their future, we enjoy a front row seat. As with other books in the series, Grant and Josie's friends and families play critical and entertaining roles in their lives.

Ms Nicholas's love and understanding of these characters and small-town life shines through. Her wonderfully imperfect characters demonstrate how to be a smart, loving person today. They are sometimes uncertain and anxious, but they are also bold and brave and willing to dream big and live large. And reading them reminds us we also can be our best selves.

MAKING WHOOPIE is an incredible read, and I'm already longing to return to Appleby!

I’ve been reading Erin Nicholas books for a while and have never read one I didn’t like. But my all-time favorite hero she writes is the buttoned up, somewhat stiff, a bit grumpy, and way to serious man who is about to learn what love is. Making Whoopie is the third book in the Hot Cakes series.

Grant and his 4 partners in Fluke, Inc. recently purchased a mass production bakery, Hot Cakes, in a small Iowa town. He has the dark good looks, the air of indifference (although you know there is passion and vulnerability beneath). He's the serious, stable one; the money guy, who usually keeps his fellow partners from going way overboard in their enthusiasm. He doesn’t have a belief in true love, and because of his history, believes woman should be content being independent, without a man. Grant can’t wait to get back to Chicago, and yet he stays on, and on… and on in Appleby, Iowa. Why? Well Josie of course :)

Josie, who at first seems to be Grant’s polar opposite, works for the Buttered Up bakery, that specializes in custom and personalized confections. She is sweet and caring, and a world class hopeful romantic, but also has a sassy, naughty side she shows to only Grant. I loved her! She would be the perfect friend… she would always be there to listen to your problems and serve great desserts while she helps you through. :)

Grant needs to help Josie with an insurance problem and his solution is a spontaneous proposal for marriage. Very out of character for the man who needs a plan. Of course, she goes along… he is smart, and… oh yeah, did I mention hot! 🔥 :) The steamy scenes between Josie and Grant practically burned my kindle!!! Add in Grant’s ‘bossiness’ and the intensity ratcheted up a few levels. The first time he tells her “I’m taking you right here in the kitchen…” my heart fluttered a little and I swear my kindle started to melt. They definitely had chemistry!

I also loved the camaraderie between Grant and his partners. There is one hysterical scene where Grant and the partners discuss naughty cupcakes. I was laughing out loud!!! Another absolutely wonderful thing about an Erin Nicholas romance is the community of people surrounding the main characters. They are quirky in an endearing way; they show love and compassion to their neighbors and have each other’s backs. I want to live in Appleby!

It was good to see Josie & Grant talk to each other and kept the misunderstandings to a minimum. It was so satisfying to see Grant learn to love and open up with Josie's help. Hurrah for Josie coming into her own, and Grant learning he didn’t need to ‘fix’ everything. The ending is one that will keep you smiling long after you finish the book.

If you want a fun story with laugh out loud moments, and wonderful characters in a quirky town… I definitely recommend this read!!! I’m looking forward to the next book in the series and going back to Appleby.

I am so enjoying my time in Appleby, Iowa. This Hot Cakes Series by Erin Nicholas just gets better and better! This series has been an absolute treat to read so far and Making Whoopie is no exception. There are some of the best characters in this charming little town.

Josie and Grant’s love story was a delight. It was the perfect blend of sweet romance, humorous moments, and a whole lot of sexy with a side helping of difficult real life issues. This was one sexy couple and I was so rooting for them to turn their marriage of convenience in a real one.

Erin Nicholas has created a truly magical series with Hot Cakes. A quirky small town, heartfelt and true friendships and wonderfully fun and extremely likeable characters makes this series a must read. I am excited to read what happens next for Hot Cakes and rest of the town.

The best Hot Cake so far
5 stars

Making Whoopie is the third book in Erin Nicholas’s Hot Cakes Series, all revolving round 5 millionaire friends who buy a cake factory in small town Appleby, Iowa. This book hits you hard, hot and heavy from almost the first page, which is great for getting stuck right into the story and getting to know our characters. I do wonder if you haven’t read the first two books, will you feel you have missed out on the introduction to our group of friends? But for all intents and purposes, this is a standalone book following one couple - Grant and Josie - with the required HEA.

I sometimes look at old films and realise that in a modern world, the whole film wouldn’t or couldn’t work. Sleepless in Seattle wouldn’t happen if there was social media, for example. And similarly, part of this book’s plot just wouldn’t work in the UK as we have our NHS. So British Josie would have just got herself to a hospital - problem solved. End of book. The absolute horror of the potential cost of treatment made my blood run cold. But that’s just an aside…

As to our characters - Josie is my girl. I loved her, saw myself in her and cheered for her every step of her way. She’s a small town girl without coming across as an unworldly cliché. She lived in her old, quirky home and loved her life, her town, her friends and what she did for a living. She was also a ride or die romantic. No apologies for who she was, what she wanted or how she felt. Love, love loved her. Hell, I wanted to be her.

At first you think Grant is going to be a spreadsheet nerd (sans glasses, unfortunately!) who is straight-laced, organised and no-nonsense all the time. And sure, he had his moments of pure geekery, but he was so much more. It’s not unusual to find a hero who is happy with his life and just wants to be in town, get his job done and then leave. A hero that’s not particularly happy with the fact he’s intrigued by a woman from said town. The difference with Grant is that he acknowledges the fact that he didn’t expect it, that his attraction is not in his plans - but he’s going with it anyway. Oh, and don’t forget the fact that he’s dirty-talking, bossy and ever so slightly obsessed with Josie. *Happy sighs*

As a result of said dirty-talking bossiness, the sex scenes are on fire in this book. And as I said, this book kicks off fast. First kiss in the first chapter, steamy sex by 15% if not before. But this is no ‘blink and you miss it’ thing; there are plenty of other scrummy opportunities throughout the book. Of course with the addition of baked goods. This is the Hot Cakes series, after all!

The whole plot was fun, fast moving and I devoured this book from beginning to end in no time at all. It was as delicious as a chocolate frosted cupcake with extra sprinkles. Previous couples from the first two books in the series (Sugarcoated and Forking Around) do appear - but only briefly. I was ever so slightly miffed that Zoe (from Sugarcoated) got a bit of a bad rap in this book. She was painted as, if not a bad friend, at least a negligent one. And while I understand Josie not wanting to burden her friends and family with her problems, I felt she should have told them what was going on. If I married a hot guy - even if it was fake - darn tootin’ I’d be telling everyone who’d listen! Oh, and Grant was so not wrong in the ‘big argument’, in my opinion! That made me laugh as I’m normally 100% on the side of the heroine. Not this time, honey. The spreadsheet stud wins the day!

While I enjoyed the first two books in this series, this was definitely the hottest - and hands down my favourite - of the Hot Cakes so far. I’m still reserving judgement on whether it will be the best of the whole series as Cam and Whitney’s second chance romance is all I have been living for since the beginning of the series. Grumpy bad boy and the sassy career girl who broke his heart.? Sign me all the way up. Semi-Sweet On You is coming next and while I’m super excited, it’ll have to be very good to match the enjoyment I got from this book. 5 stars for this one. Get your grubby mitts on it asap!

There are some irrefutable truths in life. The sun rises in the east. The Earth spins on its axis. The moon romances the tides into a dance of ebb and flow. And there are no characters this crafty, clever scribe can pen that I won’t fall nose over toes for. I have kind of a womance (is that a thing? That should totally be a thing!) with her words, or at least a strong infatuation with them. I can’t get enough, and I love each new character more than the last!

My latest deep, abiding fondness is for small-town baker extraordinaire, Josie Asher, and Mr. Large and In Charge, Grant Lorre, whose sole purpose in life seems to be keeping his partners in line. He's also a proponent of women, teaching seminars and empowering them to be fiscally responsible and financially independent. Go, Grant!

Small-town Appleby, IA, is the setting for this delightful, swoony story, featuring two main businesses and a generational Hatfield-McCoy-style feud between the Hot Cakes snack cake factory and the local bakery, Buttered Up. Grant is one of the Hot Cakes' owners and Josie works with her best friend, Zoe, at Buttered Up.

Grant and Josie are my new favorite couple! I love them individually as much as I love them together. They seem like complete opposites, but their differences complement each other and make them a perfect unit. A strong cast of secondary characters, quirky peripheral players and a charming, small-town setting all make for an enticing backdrop for this compelling, entertaining journey to forever.

Sweetly swoony, decadently delicious, and with layer upon layer of poignant heart, this one is an exquisite treat. You'll have a refreshing escape and a delightful experience as these characters own you completely, leaving you with a smile on your face and the happiest of happy sighs in your heart.

You know when you're super excited for a book and fear that it'll never live up to your expectations? Well don't worry cause Grant and Josie are everything and beyond and will not let you down!

I've been swooning for this couple even since their first encounter and anxiously anticipating their romance. And when it came it was everything I had hoped for and more! They totally complement each other, Josie being cared for and Grant having some fun and sweet in his life. It's always refreshing to see a gruff character turn romantic and spoil the hell out of our lovely heroine who really deserves some spoiling, and him being surprised of how much he enjoys it is the cream to the whoopie pie.

And what to say about their marriage? Well it starts in a weird way but chemistry and affection are a good starting point and when it becomes more it's just so natural! Their coming to terms with the situation and their feelings is amazing, and I must say I think I put up some pounds just by reading about all that Josie bakes, and I can't get enough of it!!

Can't wait to see how Cam and Whitney's story turns out!

OMG this I book is hilarious. Grant is so much “keep everything in the line’s“ type of guy that it is funny watch him stumble so much with Josie. Jocelyn is you small town girl “I don’t need much” but believe in love. So when Grant just keeps saving her ever time she falls literally she thinks of him as her knight in shining armor. But does non think he feels the same way. Till she has some health issues and he says let’s get married. Then right after shows up with divorce papers. But what have their friend and lawyer who knows them better then anyone do? For that you must read. It is not what you think. But in the process you will never think of snack food or cakes the same way. Josie as away of just making them.

These two seems so different but the love they share completed them both!! I totally loved this give and take story that had many twists and turns that kept you glued!! This is a stand alone story but to get the full effect you should read the first two book!! Learn about these friends and this town that you will fall in love with!! First comes marriage, then comes love? Grant and Josie might have done things a little backwards, but their journey was a whole lot of fun. I loved how they both seemed like opposites. Grant was serious, and at times grumpy, whereas Josie was carefree and fun, with a bit of sassy too. When they got together, there was fireworks. I loved how this book had everything that I love in a book: comedy, alpha, romance, hot and sexy scenes, and likable characters. This may have been the first book I have read of Erin's, and the first book I have read in this series, but I definitely need more of her literary sweetness.

Overall Grade: ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ 1/2

Who doesn’t love a grumpy hero and “good girl” heroine who isn’t such a “good girl?” Add in a marriage of convenience and some serious $exy scenes, and you’ve got the deliciously decadent Making Whoopie by Erin Nicholas. This book is the third book in the Hot Cakes series, and quite frankly, it’s her steamiest. It is also, in my estimation, my favorite thus far. Why?

*Grumpy hero Grant. Honestly, if I didn’t know any better, I’d think Grant might be on the spectrum. The guy has issues with feelings, while also being brilliant at helping people live their best lives fiscally. Unfortunately, he doesn’t quite realize that he isn’t living his best life until he becomes obsessed (yes…I think he’s a little addicted) with Josie. In the best kind of trope, grumpy Grant becomes tamed by sweet girl baker Josie, and it’s glorious.

*Josie is much more complicated than we assume. Obviously in the first two books of the series, Sugarcoated and Forking Around, Josie is an ancillary character whom we know little of. In this book, we come to realize that Josie is a baking genius AND she’s the most self-effacing heroine. Actually, she might be tied with Jane in Forking Around. In fact, this seems to be the case with Nicolas’s heroines. Their lack of selfishness works nicely with the alpha-esque natures of their heroes.

*The story is poignant in its portrayal of the difficulties of working for a small business. Nicholas does a nice job of showing the challenges associated with maintaining a profitable margin which oftentimes means forgoing benefits, and perks come in the flexibility of schedule and stronger relationships between employees. Additionally, through Grant’s characterization, Nicholas shines a light on the plight of women in finding success. Both of these messages offer a gravity to a seemingly sweet story.

Making Whoopie is probably my favorite thus far. However, Cam and Whitney’s story is next and Erin Nicholas teases it in this story. In fact, that is my biggest criticism of this story as there is a large part of it that provides some background for their book, which suggests that Making Whoopie might have been shorter without their struggles. This crossover of stories feels more significant than in the first two books. I would have liked Cam and Whitney’s story teased more towards the end of the book instead of throughout it. Yet, it did its job in that it piqued my interest in book 4. In the end, though, Nicholas does what she sets out to do: offering a romance that fogs your glasses and tickles your heart.

Unrequited crush, marriage of convenience, opposites attract all describe Erin Nicholas’ Making Whoopie. I really enjoyed how different the hero and heroine were yet the attraction between them was so damn hot. Filled with flirty banter, sexy times with food (a Nicholas’ trademark), and two people falling head over heels in love, this book was impossible to put down.

Grant is a numbers guy; he’s the steady one, the voice of reason among the men who are in business with him. He’s all suited up, plays by the rules, but ever since he came to Appleby, Iowa he’s been distracted by Jocelyn, the small town baker for Buttered Up, and he’s tried very hard to stay away from her especially after she literally fell into his arms leaving him all out of sorts.

Jocelyn (Josie to her friends) loves her work at Buttered Up, but what she really loves is making people happy with the delectable treats she makes both at the bakery and “on the side” out of her home. She feels a bit guilty about making things for people to take to pot luck dinners, or their kid’s class, or something for work, but it’s not anything the bakery makes and she wants nothing more than to help people caught in a jam. She dreams of one day having her own business and of finding love with a man who will be as romantic as her father is with her mother and her grandfather is with her grandmother. Ever since the day Grant saved her from falling, she can’t get him off of her mind and while she knows he’s not her forever guy as he lives in Chicago, she’s beginning to wonder if he can be her for now guy.

Readers of this series have been treated to a few interactions between Grant and Josie and it was easy to see the chemistry between them, but man oh man it was turned up a notch or fifty in this book. I loved that once they admitted to one another they wanted each other there wasn’t any game playing, it was game on! Flirty, dirty, and sexy from the minute they are alone together. I loved that they had assumptions about one another, but realized early on they weren’t correct. While they were very different people, I felt they complemented one another nicely and helped each other to see things from a different perspective.

Simply put Making Whoopie was a fun, easy read and a great addition to this series. I loved it!

This book is the cutest! All the feels, but also super steamy! Josie is adorable, and Grant…. Mmmmm Grant….. I have to say, of all the guys from the Hot Cakes series I've met so far, Grant is absolutely my #1 choice. He's hot, obviously, and tears it up between the sheets - mmm, but he's also a feminist. He wants to empower women - and he's not all talk - his financial seminars helping single moms and other women who have never learned about finances made me swoon! He doesn't just talk about empowering women - he actually DOES something to promote women! I LOVE him. Plus he's sensible, and responsible - and while the other Hot Cakes guys are awesome and SO much fun - Mister Sensible definitely does it for me!

Josie is adorable. She's not a little airhead, but neither is she the wholesome little girl the people of Appleby, Iowa think they know. She's actually a smart, confident young woman - with a very naughty side. I loved how, after Grant freaked out a little and took off shortly after they first did the dirty on her kitchen counter, she didn't worry about it. She knew exactly why he left, and it wasn't because he was done with her. It was because he was afraid he WASN'T done with her - and that scared him. And she LOVED that. I love that kind of confidence in heroines. She knows enough to know that not everything a guy does is about HER - more often than not when they do stupid things, it's related to their own hangups.

Grant and Josie each realize they have something to learn from the other. Grant teaches Josie to be more independent, and to take the spotlight and embrace her talents without staying in the background all the time. And, of course, how to use a spreadsheet. (Strip-spreadsheet lessons help with that). And Josie teaches Grant that romance doesn't necessarily mean either partner is weak. That it's okay to need each other - for things like support and encouragement and love. Spreadsheets don't give you hugs after a crap day at work.

I adored Making Whoopie. Both sweet and naughty - kind of like Josie. A fun summer escape to indulge in! I'm looking forward to the next installment of the Hot Cakes guys!

Nothing is better than salty and sweet together and Erin Nicholas serves it up just right in Making Whoopie! This is the third story in a series I didn't know existed but am quickly catching up on! Each book is a standalone but trust me, you'll want to read them all! How I missed the first couple books I'll never know but this one was practically edible and I need more!!

Grant and Josie shouldn't go together. He's a practical, "all parts must equal the sum" money man and she's a small town baker who brings to life the old nursery rhyme of sugar, spice and all things nice. He lives to teach women they don't need to depend on anyone, especially men, while Josie lives paycheck to paycheck hiding her true talent from her best friend/bakery owner. These two have danced around each other for awhile, each secretly attracted to the other but Grant wisely knows one taste of the sweet baker and he'll be addicted. When these two finally give in to their blazing attraction, we are reminded how sweet and savory work so well together! **fans face**

Erin Nicholas does it all in this book, funny, sweet, serious and also holy cupcakes, grab a fan cause it's getting hot in the kitchen! Josie and Grant's chemistry was explosive and that scene in her kitchen...FIRE!!! I loved how committed Grant was to helping, not just Josie, but women in general. I also really liked how content Josie was with her life and how fiercely she protected her life in Appleby. The rest of the friend group was so well written and compelling, they're like Lay's "bet you can't read just one"! Fantastic read!

LOL Funny, Dirty & Hot! This story has changed my whole baking perspective for the rest of my life. Erin Nicholas brings it, in this hilariously funny, down and dirty, fun and flirty, marriage of convenience. I laughed so hard I cried, and my sides hurt. I couldn’t stop reading even if I wanted to, it was just so...Hot and Fan-Freaking-Tastic!!

Josie (Jocelyn) Asher has never had a one night stand, she was a true romantic. But it had been a long time since anyone tasted her cupcakes and Grant Lorre has been making her icing melt for sometime now. So when he started acting possessive, while also claiming he hadn’t wanted to ask her out because it would have made him want to stay in Appleby, she thought that even though he was fighting the feelings he was having, at least he was having them and wasn’t that so dang romantic.

Great Lorre didn’t want to be smitten, or in love, or obsessed and he was sure she was just too sweet for anyone to lust after her. But lust he could handle, but after one night, he was a goner. And when she got sick in his presence, before he even knew what he was doing, he was feeling responsible, protective and possessive. Next thing he knew he was asking her to marry him for his health insurance. What? You got that right he was a goner. And so will you be a goner when you read this hilariously romantic, funny, down and dirty, hot story!

Received a early copy in exchange for a honest review.

I knew in reading books 1 and 2 of this series that I would fall for Grant. Grant is a growly, straight laced, bring everybody back from the brink kind of guy. He also loves math and finances. Whats not to love? Then again, his practical side can get in the way of romance. Josie is romanctic about just about everything. She even makes her baking into a romanctic notion. Which is fantastic! Her love of making others happy makes even me happy. I feel the emotion that goes along with that since i do that too. Her happy is to go with the flow. I love and hate that Grant feels he needs to swoop in and save her even though that goes against his beliefs. He is a firm believer that women dont need men. Maybe not all the time but people need to feel supported by those they love. Josie has a lot of secrets that she confides in Grant. He supports her but not in the way she needs. They both have a long road to travel but find they are doing it together. I love how Erin Nichols makes you want to move to her towns, find these people and befriend them. I want to stand in the Buttered Up kitchen and have a glass of wine with Josie while baking whoopie pies. I want to go to the offices at Hot Cakes and be in a meeting with Grant and his partners. And through these books, I can.

I really loved Grant and Josie. They have great chemistry and terrific banter. But I really enjoyed the way that they discussed things with one another. They actually spend time discussing what they want as that evolves. (I seem to have read a lot of books lately where the characters don't discuss this stuff, and this was a refreshing change.) Even though this book happens in a short time frame, everything feels possible because they actually have adult conversations. We can see that they are good for one another in real ways that will last. It makes the book very satisfying.
Another thing I loved is that this story defies several formulas used in romance books. I am not against those formulas, and sometimes that is what I want to read. But it is always fun to see tropes and patterns turned on their heads or examined from different angles. Nicholas does this successfully in this book in several ways, and that means that you never know what is coming next. I won't detail how because that would spoil the fun.
I also appreciated the continued look into the friendship of Josie and Zoe. They made me choke up a little. And I am dying to get my hands on Cam and Whitney's book after the hints dropped in here. This is an excellent addition to the series and a definite keeper.

Wow! Not sure how Erin Nicholas does it but each book gets better and better or maybe I just keep meeting new book boyfriends. Grant was not a disappointment but a surprise, can we say Hello Mr Dirty Talker!?! I was already expecting to love Grant but that little surprise definitely sealed the deal. And I must also point out what a surprise Josie was. I was expecting a sweet, small town girl and she was that but wow, sooo much more. Josie was the absolute perfect girl for Grant. The attraction between these two was HOT and when they got together *wink, wink* I think my kindle may have melted. This was one sexy couple and I was so rooting for them to turn their marriage of convenience in a real one.
I really liked how we got to see more of Cam and Whitney. We got a sneak peek into their relationship and how they even helped Grant figure out what he was looking for in a relationship.
This is a fantastic series and if you loved Aiden and Dax you will fall in love Grant too.

5 star review Making Whoopie (Hot Cakes #3) by Erin Nicholas

The third book in Ms. Nicholas latest series and it was just as entertaining as the previous books. I fell hard and fast for Grant Lorre , he made me smile throughout the story and I couldn't wait to see if he and Jocelyn Asher would get the happily every after that they both deserved. I loved the idea of a marriage of convenience, because we all know that will lead to so much more.

What starts out as a plan for a few months suddenly heats up. As the chemistry between Grant and Jocelyn sizzled and grew, so did their feelings. This book was full of humour, some miss communication, romance and heat. There was also many laugh out loud moments which added to my enjoyment.

Making Whoopie ( what a fabulous title) is a great example of RomCom at it’s best. Erin Nicholas has a way with words that quickly draws you in and keeps you invested from the first to the last chapter.

After Grant and his friends made their fortune in the tech industry they decided to purchase a snack cake factory in Iowa. He is the one in the group who analyzes the risks and creates the business plan to ensure that everything proceeds as it should. Even though two of his friends have found love in town he is not about to let his enchantment with Josie convince him to stay.

Josie is a woman who believes in love and doesn’t want to settle for less, but that decision may be taken out of her hands. She has a problem and Grant has the solution, but will it result in heartbreak or a happy ever after?

Although their relationship starts under less than ideal circumstances will the help of their friends and family they may just realize that some things are meant to be. Witty banter, hot chemistry and all the feels as two very different people find out they aren’t that different after all.

Making Whoopie by Erin Nicholas is book Three in the Hot Cakes Series. This is the story of Grant Lorre and Jocelyn 'Josie' Asher. I have read the previous books, which did add to my enjoyment of this one but I did feel you could make this a standalone book if you wish to do so. Josie is a local baker who works at Buttered Up but she also helps at other with her baking. Josie is the sweet women who has her heart on her sleeve sometimes but she does dream of a bakery of her own one day. Grant is the serious guy who is usually the voice of reason but something about Josie makes him loose his mind and thought process. So when they come together to do a marriage of convenience it might not be to convent. I am in love with this author's writing and with this series. So I will be looking for more books from her.

Making Whoopie by Erin Nicholas
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

When life becomes a smidge inconvenient count on the heart to show you the way. Making Whoopie is a sugary leap into some spicy territory. Nicholas brings on the smiles with a hint of naughty that tends to feel quite nice. Josie and Grant get off to a slow start, but once they get going, it's full steam ahead. Nicholas serves up the sweetest kind of dessert. With a spoon of romance and a pinch of humor, Making Whoopie puts delicious on the menu and scores five stars.View all my reviews

This has seriously become one of my favorite series! I love how each book just makes me fall in love more than the last.
Grant & Josie....whew! I loved how their relationship was supposed to be fake, but from the start it felt so real. They both perfectly complemented each other. I loved how Josie was able to bring some fun into Grant's life, and how he was able to give her the support she needed. This book gave me so many butterflies and I feel like I had a smile on my face the entire time!
I can't wait for the next one!

Holy Hotcakes this book was pure fire! From the very first page to the last this story had my absolutely hooked. I always knew underneath all that seriousness Grant Lorre was filthy and I am so here for it. Filthy with a side that I didnt expect but absolutely adore, Grant is the perfect match for Josie, who I was really excited to see come to the forefront of the series and really get to know. A fantastic addition to the series, I cant wait for Cam and Whitney!
