Kid Sensation #7

Incarnation

Rate this book
Jim (aka Kid Sensation) is no stranger to difficult and dangerous tasks. Having faced down everything from ruthless aliens to sadistic supervillains, he’s shown that he can more than hold his own under almost any circumstances. But now he’s facing a situation unlike anything he’s ever encountered before.

Recruited by a colleague for a mysterious mission and transported to a realm beyond space and time, Jim finds himself thrust into the company of Incarnates – individuals with powers and abilities so vast that they can do almost anything, including warp reality. But these esteemed personages are plagued by a dark issue, for which they turn to Jim for help: one amongst them is a murderer.

Charged with finding this killer, Jim soon realizes the inherent folly of pursuing an individual who is power personified and able to alter reality with the wave of a hand. With the fate of the universe hanging in the balance, he must find a way to defeat a murderous, nigh-omnipotent foe who can not only match his powers, but also negate them - fully and permanently.

This was an OK 7th instalment of Kevin Hardman's Kid Sensation series. The series is generally a fun YA superhero tale. It follows the adventures of teen superhero Jim, Kid Sensation, as he balances the dealings of his personal life with his tasks as a budding superhero! The series has a fun mix of action, adventure, coming of age drama, and cool superpowered happenings.

I did not find this 7th book to be quite as fun or as engaging as the previous books in the series but it was still an OK read. I think the issue was that the side quest Jim went on in this book was just not as interesting for me as the various happenings in the earlier books. The story was fine in theory. The mysterious Rune (a fellow Alpha League member) asks for Jim's help with an issue he is having back in his native realm. Jim goes with him to solve a murder!

I think the story was OK but not as fun as normal because our new location was not as interesting as the other places Jim has visited and the new characters we met were not as much fun as the characters we have met in previous books. We also lacked a lot of the normal support characters because Jim spent most of the story helping Rune in a different realm.

It was good to learn more about Rune and his people but I missed the usual cast of back up characters and felt the new characters we met in this one were not so much fun as the new characters we met when we visited the alien planet and that hurt my engagement of this particular instalment of the series.

All in all this was still an OK read and I'm sure things will pick up again in the next book. This remains a fun superhero series and Hardman is still a fairly engaging writer.

Rating: 3 stars

Audio Note: Mikael Naramore does a great job with the audio for this whole series.

Jim has a new mission but this time it has nothing to do with being a superhero on Earth. Rune has spirited him away to a different dimension to help solve a murder mystery that he is uniquely qualified for. Rune is more than a superhero, he is an Incarnate. One of a group of beings with much more powerful abilities than the Alpha League. This gave scope to a lot more than the usual flying and super strength. I missed some of the usual characters, but I really enjoyed finding out more about Rune and this whole other world.
while the main story has a pretty satisfactory conclusion, I still can't believe we were left with such a bombshell!

Different

I really enjoy this series. I would recommend it greatly to anyone in most age groups. The one thing I can't see is where this series is going. That is not a bad thing. It just means It is not predictable.

I will say this I almost feel sorry for Jim. To really enjoy this series please start with book one.

I love the kid sensation series but am a murderer mystery fan at heart . So this book was just perfect for me and I loved every minute, can't wait until the next book. This is book seven in a great series and continues from were book six left off. It is missing the usual gang (Smokey, Electra etc) but the story was interesting enough that you didn't miss them. I really liked the mystery side of the story and being a Kid Sensation novel the unique way he solve the mystery. It was very different with Jim not being the most powerful super hero in the room and I like the way the author describes the new characters so well that you can easily picture them.
Jim has been whisked away by Ruin, a fellow Alpha league member to help with a little problem. It is only after Jim arrives that he is now trapped in realm with a killer and can not leave until he has solved the murder. The only ones capable of killing an Incarnate is another Incarnate, so at least his suspect pool is small. It's just a same that they are all more powerful than he is and one is determined that he doesn't get to the bottom of this little problem even if he is the great Kid Sensation. True to any good super hero Kid Sensation has a few tricks up his sleeve because on this mission where he doesn't know who to trust and essentially being on his own he is going to have to pull some really good tricks out of his hat before anyone else gets killed.
I really like Mikael Naramore as a narrator and this book proves why he is one of my favourite readers.

Its always hard to find such a fulfilling superhero series such as Kid Sensation but indo enjoy these stories a lot.
Having Jim defeat superheroes on Earth, and fight Powers on alien worlds and across other dimensions, what else was there left to do.
Well , use his problem solving abilities to help near omnipotent beings solve a murder was the answer with many a twist i still enjoy Hardmans writing on this character.
Narration is ever a issue with Narramore so this can only deserve 5 stars as i was kept going from start to finish.

I write this review after listening to the audiobook of this title.

We know of "Jim", alias "Kid Sensation" from previous episodes. His abilities are astonishing, even amongst his peers of Supers.
This episode has him playing detective, trying to find a murder of an Incarnate being, that only one of a handful of similar beings, would had a chance in killing.
It's a baffling situation, but Jim is, as usual astute, and up to the task.
I must say, this author's imagination for fantasy worlds and situations is mind boggling. Also, the use of higher level language to describe and enhance a young reader's experience is gratifying.
It lifts these books into a category far above the average fantasy read, but also gives the reader explanations of the unfamiliar text, so the reader's vocabulary is enhanced and broadened. I know young adults would enjoy these fantasies, but they would, unknowingly, be influenced by unfamiliar vocabulary.

Good book but not what I was expecting

The book was a good entry for the series but it did feel out of place as the entire story takes place in the first location he visits. That said it was well done and executed, with a great big dangling cliff hanger for the overarching storyline.

Semper Praeclarus

The Characters and story always entertain, and the humor is great fun, but the plot progression is the real star here. It comes in delicious little teasing morsels, dribs and drabs that expose reality and destiny, combined with paradoxes that mess with your head.

Always worth reading and owning a copy of. Highly recommended. Buy them all.

Excellent as always

Not surprised that this instalment of the series is thrilling from start through to finish. I only wish it was longer. Knowing I’ll have to wait ages (since it was only released 2 days ago) is the only thing that’s disappointing.

Awesome!

Another great Kid Sensation novel from Hardman. As I have said in my other reviews, no one writes superheroes better. The mystery was fun, the Incarnates scary and amazing, and the story fantastic. Thank you Kevin Hardman.

Ok read. Not quite what I was expecting

I was hoping to read this and be enthralled into another kid sensation kick ass adventure. It was not. But,it was still a good read and more along the lines of a crime noir. Still a good chapter and definitely worth the time.

I’m following this series since the beginning and Mr Hardman gifted us with another great, funny and entertaining adventure of Kid sensation. I didn’t recommend to read it as standalone because you really need to meet JIM since the beginning. Amazing book, great new adventure!!! Enjoy!!!

Very enjoyable! Jim steps out of his role as a Justice League teen member and agrees to help Rune with a problem. He ends up in an ‘out-of-this-world’ Murder mystery. Great story, fun characters, lots of action, and ‘Oh My’ secrets. Loved it!

In this Kid Sensation book we learn more about Rune in an incarnate murder mystery. My kids (10, 12, 14 yrs old) and I have really been enjoying this entire series! This particular book was a lot of fun, little confusing at times with the incarnate element to it but the extra mystery to it was really fun and kept us guessing. The narrator does amazing job and really only adds to the fun of these books! These book are best if read in order, he does give a brief background history in each book but they can still be a little confusing if done out of order.

It's really a fairly clean series, there is only a little bit of cussing (no f-bombs), some really mild teen romances but nothing sexual in nature (holding hands and kissing). The only thing I would really caution in this series is regarding a little bit of graphic violence (in the fight scenes) which may be a little too much for the really young readers-- I'd say 3rd grade and up.

We highly recommend this series for those who like superhero stories, mysteries, action/adventure and we can't wait for the next book! Without spoiling anything he really left a lot still hanging and we all want to see what happens next with Jim, his family and friends!

Another fun book in the series once again the author delivers

A character you really enjoy going through situations vastly different from the last book but yet thoroughly engaging so you want to keep turning pages it's really fun to watch the character develop while going through the dilemmas proposed by the author. Definitely more of a young reader book and definitely a nice change from some of the heavier reading I've done it was just a lot of fun a lot of good action going to be reading the next one after this review

A great fantasy-murder mystery. A superhero named Jim is brought in to ferret out the murderer of an immortal incarnate. Only another incarnate can kill one of their own. If you enjoy individualls that can tele-a-transport, become invisible, or kill with their voice, among other powers, this is your story. Written as a murder mystery with the least likely killer the killer. I found this a fun story and only wish I had some of these powers. I was gifted this from the author.

Incarnation is a cool superhero story in which Kid Sensation has to be a detective for a supernatural race. The story is entertaining (though Jim isn’t really much of a detective). I’m looking forward to reading (or listening to) the next book in the series.

The narrator of these books does a very good job.

I received a complimentary copy of this audiobook. This is my honest and voluntary review.

Have to say of the many Kid Sensation books. This was rather underwhelming. I mean it read like a story of clue. The bad guy was pretty much obvious by the point of the grand reveal. Also, its interesting how time shenanigans has become the modus operandi for most things. How did this happen? Time shenanigans... Wow, how did that happen? Time shenanigans/Cosmic tinkering...

Very, very good

I've read 1 through 7 and love the whole storyline. Thank goodness there is always an ending to each story/adventure with a possible new storyline in the next book. You get a great story, closure & then possibly continuation. I liked them all! #8 is next

really liked book 1, but it keeps getting further out there

I generally liked the characters and story but I’m not sure how it goes from a super hero story to alien traveler to this.
