When she's not writing new steamy romcoms, Olivia can be found reading on the beach, enjoying cupcakes and cocktails and of course, seeking inspiration for her next book!
This is a cheerful romance, an up-lit book designed to make women think about starting again later in life. So what if you are forty? The heroine has been manipulated and controlled by a husband who didn't deserve her. Now she has found the courage - and friendships - to enable her to find freedom. Starting back to work is an awesome step. But when the son of her boss - a confident, tall, good-looking mid-twenties young man - makes it clear he's interested, our romantic figure knows at once that this would be a bad idea. Or would it?
This is an adult romance novella, set in England, and I found it to be about the situations and characters. Worth considering, especially if you want chick-lit for the mature working woman. I downloaded an ARC. No review was required. This is an unbiased review.
If you want a book that is incredibly sexy, but also laugh out loud funny complete with seriously cringe-worthy moments, then this is absolutely the book for you.
This book is a prequel to Olivia’s other novels ‘The Middle-Aged Virgin’ and ‘Only When It’s Love’, and familiar characters from both books make an appearance in ‘Losing My Inhibitions’, although this could be read as a standalone because it is a complete story in its’ own right. I find it really rewarding because Olivia writes such strong, confident female characters who find themselves later in life. It is so refreshing to see a 40 something main female character in a book, and Roxy in ‘Losing My Inhibitions’ is no exception, strong, feisty and rebuilding her life and career following her messy divorce.
There were moments in the book that were just sheer genius and had me laughing out loud, much to the consternation of people around me! This book is filled with some hot and steamy moments, but the humour jumps off every page, and the balance between the two is perfection.
Although the romance is a big part of this book, it really is a life-affirming book about self discovery. The strength Roxy finds in herself is so rewarding to read about. Roxy is not looking for a man to make her complete, she is finding herself and doing a really good job of it! The characters in the book were so easy to relate to, especially Roxy, and I found I could even recognise character flaws in her ex-husband with the flaws in my own ex-husband!
When I read the book, I had only read the previous release of ‘Only When It’s Love’, and it is testament to just how good ‘Losing My Inhibitions’ is that I immediately had to read ‘The Middle-Aged Virgin’. ‘Losing My Inhibitions’ ticks pretty much every box for me and I cannot wait to see what Olivia Spring does next.
When you read a book where a toilet is called a 'loo' (as it should be) you know you are in for a laugh. On the surface, Roxy's character has lost her inhibitions. She wears red knee-length boots to work and has started casually dating. Roxy thinks she is free after leaving her controlling husband, but she isn't. She has fallen into the same trap this time with her boss. When Roxy meets someone she really shouldn't fancy, the story really unfolds. There are lots of funny bits involving cringey don't park there! And don't leave your underwear in the kitchen! Bits. The promise of a twist in the title is true, I did not know how this was going to end.
A fun and sizzling hot story about two people who are attracted to each other. What do you do when a DDGM (Drop Dead Gorgeous Man) 14 years your junior is interested in you? You try and avoid him at all costs! Roxy cannot believe that Finn, the hot, kind and thoughtful DDGM in question wants her but he is the boss’s son and she doesn’t want to come between them. She tries so hard to avoid being alone with him and focus on her workload, and not forgetting his mum is super protective of him and will cross any woman who takes advantage of her wonderful son. How much willpower does it take to avoid the sparks flying between them? Read this page turner and you’ll find out! This book will make you smile and reconsider the possibility that maybe a younger man is just what you need to spark your fire. FYI, a big bonus of dating a younger man, means you get a longer span of time before he’s reaching for the Viagra. So don’t knock it! You will enjoy.
I really loved this latest book from Olivia Spring. Its steamy, its sexy and its very funny. There is a part in it, of which i cant repeat, that had me doubled up laughing. So, we meet Roxy, who after years in a controlled marriage, finally breaks free and gets divorced. She starts to build a new career, regain her confidence and starts to get her life back on track, and joining the dating scene is also on her to do list. After a brief encounter with an older guy, at just passed 40, Roxy realises she doesn't want to settle for what she had before.. boring. She Then meets Finn, drop dead gorgeous, fit, thoughtful, funny and totally sexy, everything she wants, he is also 14 years younger!! Oh and the added complication his mother is her boss! With hot temptation, sizzling looks and intense feelings between them, what is Roxy going to do? Grab yourself a copy and read for yourself.
DNF. it just wasn’t for me. I gave it up to 57%. It was an easy read, a little predictable but I do like that, sometimes you want to just get lost in something easy. I finally gave up though when the male main character’s manhood was called an Anaconda.
I don’t doubt people out there will love this but not for me I’m afraid.
All hail the new queen of funny, sexy romantic fiction, Olivia Spring.
Olivia is back with a bang (literally). Losing My Inhibitions was a brilliant read and in someways, it was spooky the comparisons between Roxy’s life and my own.
Roxy is starting a fresh chapter in her life. At forty-one and newly divorced she is finding her feet for the first time in years. Ready for love and eager to live life to the max then life throws her quite the sexy curve ball. However, with all ball sports, there is always the danger of getting hurt.
A brilliant read with cringe-worthy moments captured perfectly and genius comedy that had me laughing out loud. You have been warned if you read this on the bus prepare for funny looks.
I can’t wait to see what Olivia Spring conjures up next but I will snap it up. All we need now is a movie deal for all three books. I love that the characters in Olivia’s books as relate-able.
Olivia's stories are just getting better and better, she is honestly an author to watch! With shocking laugh out loud one liners like 'He'd been pounding away for ten minutes, grunting like a pig.' you cannot miss out on reading this! Hilarious!
I was so excited to hear that finally feisty Roxy is getting her own story! A prequel to 'The Middle-Aged Virgin' and 'Only When it's Love' characters Sophia and Alex both feature in this book but as mentioned this is a prequel so this can easily be read as a stand alone.
Drawing a line from her past, Roxy is finally divorced and free from her controlling ex Steve. Back to being a career girl and dating again, life is all going well until a young hottie catches Roxy's eye, turning her life upside down risking her career and home. Roxy knows the risks she faces and tries to distant herself from him but the temptation is just too powerful and so she decides to follow her heart rather than her head.
This book had me laughing out loud, hiding behind my kindle and picking up my jaw from the floor with some hilarious and quite embarrassing situations that Roxy gets involved with. One scene in particular had me gasping in shock and saying out loud 'what the actual F...'! Sooo funny!
I loved the character Roxy, I've loved her from other stories, she's a no nonsense girl who doesn't take no for an answer and holds no prisoners. So it was nice to read a more vulnerable side to her character and to understand why she has that hard exterior.
I didn't want Roxy's story to end, full of hot and steamy moments, laugh out loud situations and more sauce than a bottle of ketchup! This is a must read this summer! I am really hoping this isn't the last we see of Roxy, surely she has more stories up her sleeve!
Huge thank you to Olivia Spring for the ARC which I have reviewed honestly.
First of all, big thank you to Olivia for sending me this novel in exchange for an honest review.
Are you seeking a new, fresh voice of funny, romantic fiction? Here we go.
Losing My Inhibitions was a brilliant read and in some ways, it was spooky the comparisons between Roxy’s life and those in the past.
This book is very understanding as it is about having a new start – at any age.
Roxy is starting a fresh chapter in her life. At forty-one and newly divorced she is finding herself for the first time in years. She is very ready for love and eager to live life to the fullest. Then, life throws her a sexy curveball. However, with all ball sports, there is always the danger of getting hurt.
Colette (boss) has given Roxy her job and put her up whilst she is finding her feet again. Of course Roxy feels she owes her boss for all the help given. She is working flat out on the Northern Beauty Live! Exhibition and when Colette agrees to get her help she can’t believe her luck. But when her boss reveals this to be her son (the baby boy in all the photos on Colette’s desk) Roxy’s earlier happiness quickly dissolves.
Colette’s son, Finn, tries to ‘break into’ his mothers home and comes face to face with a semi-naked Roxy they both know working together is going to be different than expected. Finn is no longer a baby boy instead, he has turned into a ripped, gorgeous and charming man. He is the toy-boy she’s been looking for but the one she can’t have.
In order to keep her job and her friendship with the woman that saved her in a time of crisis Roxy knows she will have to keep focused but can she do that and more importantly does she want to? Is Finn the answer to the fun she needs?
A brilliant and saucy read with cringe-worthy moments captured perfectly and genius comedy that had me laughing out loud. You can really hear the personality coming out throughout the writing which is refreshing. You have been warned if you read this on the bus prepare for funny looks, I am serious.
I can’t wait to see what Olivia Spring creates next! I love that the characters in this novel is relate-able. I cannot wait to get my hands on Olivia’s other novels if they are as good as this one.
Roxy is 41, fiercely committed to her job and a woman who is in need of a little bit of fun. Since breaking up with her controlling ex, Steve and getting back in touch with old boss Colette, Roxy has plunged herself headfirst into work with little attention to her social life but that’s all about to change.
Colette has given Roxy her job back and put her up whilst she’s finding her feet again and Roxy feels she owes her boss for all the help given. She is working flat out on the Northern Beauty Live! exhibition and when Colette agrees to get her help she can’t believe her luck. But when her boss reveals this to be her son (the geeky, awkward looking boy in all the photos on Colette’s desk) Roxy’s earlier happiness quickly dissipates.
When Colette’s son, Finn, tries to ‘break into’ his mothers home and comes face to face with a semi-naked Roxy they both know working together is going to be different than expected. Finn is no longer a gawky looking 15 year old boy but a ripped, gorgeous and charming man. He’s the toyboy she’s been looking for but the one she can’t have. In order to keep her job and her friendship with the woman that saved her in a time of crisis Roxy knows she will have to keep focused but can she do that and more importantly does she want to? Is Finn the answer to the fun she needs?
I was so honoured when Olivia got in touch with me and asked if I would like an ARC of ‘Losing My Inhibitions’. After previously winning one of her novels in a Bookstagram giveaway I was excited to see what her new novel had to offer and agreed to read and post a honest review. So here it is!
Page 1 of this book plunges us straight into the middle of the protagonist having sex with a fat, overweight, sweaty mess. It’s not pleasant for anyone but it’s completely hilarious and a reader I loved being thrown into this very awkward moment straight away. Roxy is having her first post-Steve shag and it’s really not a sight to behold but thrusts her straight into the reader’s limelight.
Spring brings to life the perfect portrayal of this very lacklustre experience for Roxy and not only starts the book on an eye opener but sets the scene for Roxy’s character and what she’s looking for.
It’s a very saucy read but I really enjoyed that and the building sexual tension between Roxy and Finn really kept me gripped. Without giving away any spoilers I was always on edge waiting for THAT moment and then the inevitable fall out. If you’ve read this, you’ll know what I mean!
I devoured the book in only 2 days (half the time of a normal read for me) as I was really reeled in by the characters and their complicated relationships which is testimony to Spring’s use of language and character building. I would give this book a solid 4 star review; it was funny, engaging and empowering!
Thank you to the author for my eARC of this book and for inviting me to take part in the tour. It is wonderful to be recognised and supported as a blogger by an author who’s work you enjoy, but that in no way effects my review for this book.
Losing My Inhibitions follows Roxy who has left her controlling ex and now is living with her boss, Colette. She’s feeling slightly overworked and underappreciated so she when Colette’s gorgeous young son comes to work and stay with them, Roxy is extremely tempted by the off limits man.
The book opens with an awkward sex scene with an old man and honestly, if that doesn’t draw you in, I don’t know what will!! It set the tone for how funny the book was going to be.
Of course, we all know where this book is going to go at some point, but that did not make it any less fun! I found myself rooting for Roxy to have some fun, even if it might not have been the best idea. At 41, she deserved to enjoy herself after getting out of such a horrid marriage. But fair warning, if you don’t like a sex scene then you may need to skip some parts!
I found myself absolutely hating Colette for the majority of the book. She was the worst boss and I am shocked she was not stood up to sooner, but Roxy was a people pleaser. However, Roxy goes on a great journey and I enjoyed reading about her putting herself first finally and seeing her worth.
The ending was not quite what I expected but it was the complete right fit. Roxy had grown so much and without spoiling anything, I am happy with how things ended up.
Oh, my! The very first scene surprised me, and if I hadn't read other books by the author, I might have stopped reading there. But I've read two other books in this series and liked them, so I continued. I didn't feel like this one quite met the mark set by the other ones. Those two seemed like they had more of a defined plan for the heroine, which was interesting to follow to see how she’d react. In this one, however, the basic course is not as clear, so it felt at times as if the book wandered without much purpose other than to show some sexy scenes. I was intrigued by this book because the main character was newly divorced and middle-aged; we don't get enough middle-aged heroines in romances or even chick lit. I did feel at times that the steamy scenes were a bit over the top. I also felt like there was a little too much profanity. I did indeed like the first books that I read, but I think I enjoyed the context of them better, which might have allowed me to overlook some flaws. I'm not a fan of the end; it made me feel as if I had wasted time reading this book.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
Rosy went through a messy divorce and now lives with her boss. She likes her job but is not really getting respect from her boss/friend. She has a big event coming up and has been left to do it all herself. That is until her boss’s son comes to help and oh boy he’s hot and the chemistry is palatable. But if she gives into her desires she could lose everything.
This is a contemporary romantic comedy with some heated scenes and is a coming of age book for a middle age woman. The characters are interesting, well developed and engaging. They are compelling and made me want to find out what was going to happen to them. The story is told from Roxy’s point of view giving insight into her thoughts, feelings, motivations and actions. The smooth flowing storyline is filled with emotional drama as Roxy navigates her past experiences, fears, desires and sexuality. The hot steamy scenes are nicely incorporated into the storyline and are essential to the effectiveness of the story. I loved the ending for this story and how Roxy’s self awareness and self esteem developed. The writing style is great and I would definitely read more from this author.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Rediscovering herself and finding passion once again
Losing My Inhibitions: Finally Free And Ready To Have Fun is the first book I have read by Olivia Spring and I really enjoyed it. It is lighthearted and fun but at the same time poignant and emotional. It reminded me of Sophie Kinsella and Stephanie Evanovich in the writing and storytelling styles, both of where are really well done. The entire book, from start to finish, kept my attention, made me laugh, made me shed a few tears, made me moan, made me blush and really made me cheer for Roxy and her hot and sexy younger man. In romance novels there H is normally older than the h and in this one it flips that around with deliciously yummy results. I think that a lot of woman will be able to relate to Roxy and what she is going through. You may not have the some of the crazy friends around but sometimes you still have to let go in order to find the sweet spots in life.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. My opinions are all my own.
I really enjoyed this book. My only complaint was that it was too short. I read it in a couple of hours - I know it’s a novella but I wanted more.... Losing My Inhibitions is the story of Roxy. Recently divorced after being in an abusive and controlling marriage. She is 40, has a job she loves and is lodging with her boss Colette and has recently been on a wholly unfulfilling date with a man her own age. Then she meets Finn. Finn is 14 years her junior and has stirred feelings up in Roxy she has never had before....the only problem is, Finn is the son of her boss and landlady Collette, who has Finn on a pedestal and refers to him as “her baby” This book is a sexy, racy, romance but it’s more than that. I love that the heroine is 40 (a rare thing in a romance book) and I love that she has the courage to put herself first after spending years tending to her ex husbands every whim. This book is racy and heartwarming at the same time. I have never read any of Olivia’s other books but I will be after this one. Highly recommended.
After her divorce is finalised and Roxy is free and newly armed with confidence and she decides it's time to have some no-strings-attached fun... and her dreams are answered when a younger hot single man unexpectedly enters her world, sparks are soon flying between the pair! But this human Adonis is strictly off limits being her bosses Son, can Roxy resist temptation? Or will losing her inhibitions for a forbidden fling cost her everything?
Spring's writing is refreshingly honest from the utterly cringe-worthy to the super steamy be prepared to laugh-out-loud (I certainly did). Her characters are strong, independent and relatable. As fun and fizzy as a glass of chilled prosecco.. this is the perfect beach read.
Thanks to Olivia Spring for sending me this in exchange for an open and honest review.
I loved the book! It was written very well and the main characters are very interesting and you don’t find them in a romance book. Roxy is a 40 yr old divorcee who had just gotten out of a pale, boring marriage with a very controlling ex. She lost a lot of her own control & wouldn’t allow herself the freedom to move back in the real world!
And, whom does she meet but, her bosses 27 year son & realizes she is attracted to him and surprisingly enough he is attracted to her. But, what about her boss, what about the age difference and how hard is it to work with that your drawn to?
Olivia Spring has done a wonderful job answering those questions and she has made her characters real people with all the foibles of us. Be sure to grab it I’m sure you’ll love it.
Different characters & different thoughts on things! Refreshing!
Losing my Inhibitions by Olivia Spring This book is cheerful and has sizzling hot moments. It has some totally hilarious and embarrassing moments making you laugh out loud. It is a story about Roxy who is 41 year old woman who divorces her ex husband Steve as had controlling nature and took away all her independence and friends and family. It is a story about how she finds ways to cope with the struggles and rebuilding herself into strong, confident, independent woman with a growing career. Finn is 27 year old handsome, caring, smart, thoughtful guy who is son of Roxy's boss. Olivia Spring has written an absolute fiesty, intelligent character with sexy hot romance. It is a good read where maybe you can relate to Roxy in some manner or other💙
I loved this book. I loved the characters. I loved the story. I loved that every character had their flaws. But most of all, I loved the ending! This isn’t a predictable “girl falls in love with boy and loves her life falls into place” story. This is, as the title suggests, about a woman finding her independence, and realising she has the power to make herself happy. Plus, it really did make me laugh out load. I rarely laugh at books, even if I find them funny, but this had me rolling in places.
This book is hilarious, I literally mean laugh out loud funny. I adore Roxy she’s a fantastic character. This is an extremely uplifting book which has really cheered me up and allowed me to escape from the reality of the moment. Olivia Spring is a Queen of writing funny and sexy Rom coms. I have nothing negative I can say about this absolutely gorgeous read. This is filled with moments to make the reader laugh, romance and a drop dead gorgeous man. I have loved it.
This book is more of a women's fiction novel than a romance. Maybe it gives a HFN, but that's a stretch. While Finn and Roxy have lots of sexy and a forbidden relationship, it exists mostly to move Roxy along her self-discovery and not so much so they can end up together.
The book is about characters in the UK so perhaps that's the reason for the blase attitude towards a woman having sex with a direct report, even at work.
Trigger warnings: sexual harassment, domestic abuse is mentioned
I love that this book didn't feel like a cookie-cutter romance. This book is about a woman waking up and taking back her life. Learning to love and listen to her own wants and needs and coming out on top! Definitely recommend you read this one and the other two rom-coms from the box set, Ready to Mingle collection!
Spring's novel might challenge some readers' sense of what a romance novel should be and do, but, in a happily-ever-after can take many forms, this book certainly fulfills that requirement. Moments of humor mix with thoughts about interdependence, independence, and empowerment. Despite some discordant, cringe-y moments, the unabashed approach to female sexuality is bold... and refreshing.
This was very true to life! ( I know I've lived it) I completely related to Roxy......I laughed all the way through this book and couldn't put it down ( even when I should have been paying attention to my man lol) I will be reading all Olivia Springs books....I just love how she writes .....a 10 out of 10 from me!
It's just a horny 40yo lusting over younger men. The main character gives Mary-Sue, pick me vibes. She is judgemental towards other women, for example women out of shape, women that stay home and knit. And all characters are quite stupid and have the weirdest reasoning throughout the book.
I will say, it was a quick read to get some pages in 🤷🏻♀️
This was a great book I had fun reading from start to finish. The characters are well developed and engaging. The storyline flowed easily and smoothly.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
