I'll say it upfront, I REALLY don't like episodic fiction or cliffhanger endings (just short of hate, actually), but this author is SO good at writing peril and suspense and creating characters I grow to care about VERY MUCH, so I had to read this second installment in the unSPARKed series. If you like action, adventure, suspense, and DINOSAURS, you will love this series. I only hope Ms. Turner will release the next one SOON because she really left the reader hanging (and heart-pounding breathless) at the end of this one....Yikes!!!

I have already read this through twice. And my son wants to read it with me. It is a great installment in the unSPARKed series. Full review to follow soon.
...
It has been an almost two year wait for this book! But boy oh boy was it worth it! I read book 1, Drive!, six times since it first came out. Twice by myself, then with my son, and then with my son again, and finally with my youngest daughter who came in the final time I was reading it with my son. As a family we love the world Corinna Turner has created for this series. And both children have been asking for a long time when this book would be out. I have devoured this volume twice, once last night before bed, and again this morning on my commute to work. And will start it again this evening with my children.

I stated in my review of book one that: “It sort of feels like a cross between Jurassic World and Mad Max! The story is set in a future when scientists have created dinosaurs and humans are no longer top of the food chain. Most humans live inside walled cities, the walls being layers of electrified fences.” And unSPARKed is anywhere outside the electrified fences. This story revolves around one family, their friends and their priest. And of course, the dinosaurs in the world they inhabit.

This story begins very intense and ends that way. In between there is a lot of fun, family and friends. It is a very interesting story. You cannot help but feel yourself immersed in this world. And what a world Turner has created. The world building is excellent. The characters are very well written. And the plot has some intriguing twists.

This book was a lot of fun to read. In fact I read it twice in under 12 hours over two days. And will read it again with my kids. This book and this series is FANtastic! And this book ends with the beginning of a sneak peak of a prequel Breached! Already on my watch list to read as soon as it becomes available.

Corinna Turner is an expert at creating new, exciting worlds in her fictional books. Whether it be a dystopian future, a fantasy world, or a Jurassic-park type of environment, her descriptions brilliantly engulf the reader into her books.
A Rapturous Welcome is one of the stories in her Unsparked series. This exciting adventure follows two parallel storylines. The first revolves around Darryl and her family. Teenager Darryl has a deep faith but is tough as nails when it comes to dealing with dangerous dinosaurs. Her father recently married a city-girl who is having trouble adjusting to living in the wild, dangerous, dinosaur-filled country.
The other storyline revolves around Joshua, a young man who is alone in the world. He has been trained by his father and uncle to take on dangerous hunting jobs. Thiis exciting story leaves you wanting more and yearning for the next installments that will be forthcoming.

I only gave this 3 stars in my first read through, but having just re-read unSPARKed 1 and 2 again, I can only think that this must be due to the fact that, after the crazy tense climax of the first book this felt a little calmer. But there are plenty of dino-scares in this book too. Right from the start our characters are in peril. As we learn more about Darryl and Harry's farm life and the dinosaurs which inhabit their world, there are no less than 3 raptor encounters, a rogue piranasaur ( I'm imagining a compsognathus) and **spoiler** one death by t-rex..

Hunter Joshua offers a counterpoint to Darryl and Harry's ordered life, experiencing the world in a much more rough and ready way which really gets up close and personal with the dinosaurs.

If this book is not as nail-bitingly tense as the first, it has plenty of dinosaur encounters, both peaceful and less so to fill out this fascinating world. I just wish the books were longer.

Like the first volume in the unSPARKed series, A Truly Raptor-ous Welcome was loads of fun. If you're looking for a short, edge-of-your seat adventure, this one is for you.

I'm looking forward to seeing how the seemingly separate storylines cross paths. Engaging characters and menacing dinosaurs (well, some are menacing). What's not to love?

So gripping that I've finished 4 books in 24 hours. The world-building is creative and fun, but the author sells a character set full of integrity. I wpuld recommend this to all.

Having just read Benton's "Vertebrate Palaeontology", I'm impressed that the illustrations seem to exhibit pretty legit feathering.

Truly excellent world-building, with plenty of tension and action, though actually kind of leisurely for a Turner book (No one does edge-of-the-seat tension like Turner, but it was nice to have a story where people weren't *always* in immediate danger of death). Characters were very good, though I still can't figure out why Carol married Darryl's father. Biggest issue was the story structure--I can't see how Joshua's story connects at all to the other plotline, and the ending was an infuriatingly sudden cliffhanger. I get that this is serialized fiction, and I have the feeling that all the parts of the series will create a coherent story, but right now, this books feels less like a story and more like a collection of scenes. That said, book 3 better come out SOON!
