Ghosts of Landover #1-3

The Ghosts of Landover Mystery #1-3

Rate this book
Three full novels of paranormal mystery fun!

Book 1: Over My Dead Husband’s Body

Carly never knew she was a medium, not until her ex-husband died and left her his house, a strange Victorian mansion on the top of a hill in Landover, Wisconsin. As soon as she opens the door, she sees him hovering in her living room, between the crimson settee and the dogwood-patterned rug. He wants her to solve his murder and says the best way to do that is by combining energy with him in a channeling to relive the night minute by minute and gather clues, together.

Of course, she can hardly wait.

It’s the beginning of a strange new journey for Carly, one that involves a curse, a bunch of ghost clients impatiently waiting to get their cold cases solved by reliving their murders, and a dead ex-husband tagging along, pretending to be her Watson.

Book 2: After the Suffragette’s Suicide

Carly meets her first ghost-client: suffragette and local women's rights leader, Bessilyn Hind. According to history, Bessilyn committed suicide at her 35th birthday party after her fiancé broke up with her. Only one problem: she doesn't remember it that way. She's appalled history books have been written that imply she would do something so drastic over a man. And she wants to know who murdered her (along with retractions on history, pronto).

Through channeling, Carly is taken right to the party in 1906 to figure things out for the suffragette.

Book 3: Behind the Boater’s Cover-Up

The third book features a story the Landover locals refer to as "the accident." In 1957, a group of recent high-school graduates went late-night partying on a boat after a sock hop. They didn't return. In the end, it was ruled an unfortunate accident. The only problem: Gloria Thomas, one of the partiers that night, has a different version. And Carly is going to help her set the record straight.

However, while channeling with the ghost and reliving the memories from 1957, Carly sees her older friends back when they were younger, and the shocking way the accident was covered up. Turns out, there are a lot of secrets in Landover, and like the dead, they're much safer buried.

This box set contains the first three books in the Ghosts of Landover Mystery series.

The Ghosts of Landover Mystery Series Box Set, Books 1-3 includes Over My Dead Husband’s Body, After the Suffragette’s Suicide, and Behind the Boater’s Cover-Up.

I am loving this series and I am sure that this trio of stories is sure to enchant any lovers of paranormal cozy mysteries. Carly and her friends are great characters that develop well over the series and are the kind of friends you would like to have. The stories are well written and have lots of humour, quirky characters, garrulous ghosts, mystery, mayhem, and a marvellous medium.

I cannot wait to read more books in this series.

This was a fun series. Carly doesn't know she's a medium, but accepts the mantle quickly, and uses it to her advantage. It gives her an outlet for her need to share and care (and for her dislike of her ex-husband's family).

Minor issues - Carly (well, her creator) obviously does not know that mace and pepper spray are two different things, and Carly's mace dispenser releases pepper spray. Thoroughly avoidable error. Many instances where "apostrophe-s" is used to indicate plural, particularly for family names. An apostrophe-s properly indicates a plural ONLY when used with lower-case letters (as in "p's and q's"). Her "alternative" spelling of "veg out" was an annoyance to me; I had to look up "vedge" and found it only in slang dictionaries.

Glad I found this series!

Your ex haunts you in the home (weird as it is) that he willed to you? Weird, but if it gets you out of your Moms basement, you’d take it, too. This is a series with twists and turns, freaky occurrences and a tight lipped town. And A Curse. Definitely give it a go, you won’t be disappointed.

Must read

I just finished this 3 book series. It was entertaining and well written with just the right amount of a paranormal twist. There were some parts I would have liked more clarification on but accept that it was omitted to allow further books. Which I am fine with and will look for in the near future.

I love this series! The characters and ghosts are wonderfully written. The stories have twists to keep you guessing, and there is humor in these stories. I definitely recommend this box set or the individual books to everyone! I received an ARC of the box set and this is my honest opinion.

A Good read

A Very interesting storyline. Carly inherits her dead ex husband's house and moves in. Jackson, her dead husband is staying at the house, haunting Carly. He demands that she finds the person who murdered him.
The three stories follow her as she becomes used to interacting with ghosts. There is a lot of drama, as well as some humour.

Entertaining

There are mysteries interwoven with the almost slap stick comedy of the way the ghosts and the odd restrictions to the inheritance of a house are written. Sometimes you're reading along and suddenly this odd humor in interjected.

This is a great series. I like when the books are in sets so I can move from one to the other. It is a paranormal book but has comedy, romance and murder.

I loved these books. Carly has inherited an old Victorian mansion from her ex-husband. Why would he leave his ancestral home to the ex-wife? Probably has something to do with Carly being a medium. Only she doesn't realize it until she meets up with the ghost of her ex-husband, who says he's been murdered. And Carly needs to find out who and why.

This series of books is funny, personable and easy to read. Etta Faire has done a great job developing her characters. By the third book, I felt like I knew Carly and her friends. The storylines are fast-paced and easy to understand and follow. I can't wait to read the next one.

These are paranormal cozy mysteries. There is no graphic violence or sex and each book could be read as a standalone.
