Puny and powerless after an unfortunate encounter with a magical girl, the Dark Realm's Number Two has her work cut out for her in the world of humans!
The Great Jahy, the Dark Realm's second-in-command, cuts a frightening figure, feared and revered by all. But when a run-in with a magical girl results in the destruction of the precious mana crystal, the Dark Realm falls, transporting the newly puny and powerless Jahy to the human world! Unfortunately, plotting the revival of the Dark Realm from a cramped, crumbling one-room apartment is no easy feat when you have rent to pay and a job to keep!
This verges on mean humor, but overall stays on the less cruel side of the line as we follow the Dark Realm's second-in-command as she struggles to regain her power after having her behind handed to her by a magical girl.
After a magical girl wreaks havoc on the dark realm, the Demon Lord’s No.2 demon, the minimally clothed succubus Jahy, finds herself shrunken to the size of a little girl and banished to earth. Struggling to survive, she divides her time between her job and seeking the mana crystals she needs to regain her power.
So, what I’m basically saying is that that devil is now a part-timer. Oh, and she’s a demon girl who lives next door. Yeah, so, whoever came first, this certainly isn’t a concept we haven’t seen before.
Which leaves everything to the execution and I was somewhat underwhelmed by the first three chapters, which feature Jahy’s annoying boss, her overly successful minion, and a struggle with a young boy.
I assume these were some sort of trial chapters or preview or first attempt or something because the story then seems to reboot itself and it’s amazing how a couple of tweaks can make all the difference.
They really adjust the boss character to be less critical and more goofy, which is a welcome change. The first chapter where she’s pressuring Jahy to smile was absolutely grating as somebody who hates being told that.
Later, when Jahy loses her lone, puny mana crystal (which allegedly causes dire misfortune to all humans who touch it) at work and her boss ends up with it, the back and forth as Jahy tries desperately to come up with any kind of catastrophe it could be causing is very, very funny (Jahy’s ‘blobs of blubber’ line is so cruel that I cackled at it).
Druj, Jahy’s minion, shows up in a very modified second chapter that uses her similarly to her first appearance and although I don’t really love her ditzy schtick all that much, it’s relatively inoffensive. Your mileage may vary on how much you find this sort of character funny.
The best chapter comes when the barkeep’s sister comes calling for Jahy’s rent and Jahy’s rampaging disgust for having to owe anything to humans turns into a hilarious yelling match of epic proportions.
This chapter (and most of the others, honestly) trades on what is the book’s biggest strength - Jahy being over-the-top indignant about everything and not being able to do a hell of a lot about it. It clearly figures that the secret sauce is this pint-sized twerp shouting and it’s not wrong.
Essentially, endless misfortune dogs somebody who clearly knows how to dish it out, but has absolutely no ability to take it, and that’s a pretty decent launch pad for these sorts of stories. As an aside, I have to admit that the design for full demon Jahy is fan service-y as heck, but for some reason I really thought it suited what a demon lord of her nature would look like, curse you y-chromosome!
3 stars - I don’t care for the first three chapters beyond a resounding meh and that’s a lot of pages eaten up getting to the good stuff. I’ll definitely try this again though, as a little fine-tuning of what they’ve started with and this story definitely has the potential to nail it in a volume or two.
Its not a bad manga, and as much as I want to love it and its premise... Well it just doesn't hit the pacing for the humor it tries to do. I was disappointed in the anime, and also in this first manga volume. 2.5 out of 5
A good introduction volume. I am already quite familiar with the series as I have seen the entirety of the anime. I did have several laugh out loud moments and I actually do prefer Drujs design more here than in the anime. Overall a worthwhile read that was fast paced and entertaining.
Tytułowa Jahy to istota budząca strach, podziw i szacunek.
This was a fun little story. It was giving me strong The Devil is a Part-Timer Manga, Vol. 1 vibes mixed with a little bit of Sleepy Princess in the Demon Castle, Vol. 1. From the former we are taking the once great and powerful demon, made poor and pathetic in the human world, and from the latter, we are getting the general story structure and flow of some quick one-chapter adventures that turn out well in the end and have some slow-paced connectivity. You can tell we are in for the long haul but it will be a good time especially if you don't take it too seriously. I liked the characters well enough but I would probably need a little bit longer to grow fully attached. Again it was fun.
Title: The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated! ✍ Author: Wakame Konbu 🌍 Country of Origin: Japan 🔖 Genre: Fantasy, Comedy, Slice of Life, Adorable 🪄💭⚔💕 👥 Favorite Character: Jahy 💬 Favorite Quote: "I, The Great Jahy..."
An adorable read about how the second in command from the dark realms has to actually live her life as a little girl and refuses to get help as much as she needs it.
I couldn't help but feel sorry for Jahy, and I would love and protect her even if she didn't want me to.
It does have some sexy scenes without being too lewd, and the characters are lovable without being cringy or creepy. I do have to admit that it does become repetitive over time, but it is manageable.
I'm really looking forward to reading volume 2, as this is just so much fun without having to think too much—just silly little situations for a silly little dark lady.
The great Jahy, The Dark Realm's second in command, finds herself in modern day Japan in the body of a child, after a Magical Girl destroyed the great Mana Crystal that powered the Dark Realm. Used to a life of luxury, the Great Jahy is now reduced to living in a very tiny one room apartment, and working in a cowboy bar. Plus all she can afford to eat is bean sprouts. At least she gets a free meal every time she works a shift! One (minor) calamity after another plague the Great Jahy as she searches for Mana Crystal shards, in hopes of reviving the Dark Lord and rebuilding the Dark Realm. It ain't easy being evil! Even crows outwit her now. Oh, how the mighty have fallen.
3/5 'The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated' is a manga that follows the 2nd in command of the dark realm who has been transformed into a little girl in our modern world after the Dark Realm has been defeated. No longer possessing her power or stature, Jahy has to try and collect mana crystals to save the Dark Realm. Ultimately, I found this kind of boring. The chapters are one offs that are very short. It doesn't help that after reading the first few chapters, the story repeats with some slight differences. This didn't really hold my attention so I don't think that I will continue on in the series.
Jahy is hilarious, constantly being humbled by the lowly humans. I feel bad for her never being able to get her hands on any mana shards. Finally when she finds one and imagines herself far in some treacherous mountains when in actuality she's behind the apartment complex. >_< Anyways I would totally recommend reading this book if you want a good laugh.
For an introductory book I like it! Jahy is an absolute menace and I hope to see character growth. The other characters introduced are almost always sweet and kind which makes Jahy’s cocky confidence feel sour.
Especially her boss her boss is very sweet which I think is the point.
Anyways, summary Jahy is goblin everyone is nice to her but she wont stop being a goblin.
This is a mix of silly characters and cringe/mean humor with arrogance butting heads with humiliation. It circles around fetishized moe but doesn't quite go there. The story focuses on the fallen villainess, Jahy, whose miserable clumsiness is rivaled by her pride. If she wasn't an evil final boss-type, I'd say it was pretty mean, but even in her patheticness there's an immature egoism that blunts the edge.
I enjoyed this manga, because it's a manga it was easy and fast to read. Tho I had to learn the order a bit, it's only my second manga. I liked the main characters, she is a badass with a lot of childish tantrums, they are pretty fun actually. It was a fun book, I laughed a bit while reading. Curious to the rest of the serie.
I guess it's admirable that she keeps at it, but it's pretty boring watching someone mostly just being pathetic. And the glimpses of her past don't exactly make her more sympathetic seeing as she was willing on the side of evil and all.
4/5 stars. Jahy-Sama is so adorable and I like how this manga has realistic fiction mixed with fantasy. I definitely will be cosplaying her next. I only gave it 4 stars because the humor isn’t that strong.
This was a fun read! I love the gremlin energy Jahy gives to every scene and caught myself smiling at several points while reading. I've read other works by this artist and I'm not surprised to find this one becoming a newfound favorite of mine. I'm looking forward to reading the next volume!
Cute artwork and premise. Works as an intro, but showing the original Pilot comic was a bit jarring when you get to chapter 4 and it starts again (but different?). Looking forward to reading more.
Cute, funny and an easy read. There isn't much to wrap ones head around for this one, no big picture to work out, just a transforming girl trying to restore the dark realm. Love Jahy!
