Walking with a camera in hand, the play of light and shadow, or the arrangement of colors and textures of a composition may present itself for a passing moment, or as an abiding feature in one’s daily routine. Learning to see pictures all around sometimes concludes with a quick snapshot or a more carefully framed photograph. But there are times when the scene sparks a brief reflection on subjects in one’s mind. In short, the composition acts like a writing prompt. Other times it is the reverse, a bit of writing calls out for a visual expression of the verbally articulated idea. In either case there is a connection between seeing something and thinking something. Between 2013 and 2018 what began as an experiment to practice the Wordpress blogging service turned into 100 blog articles with reflections on the way we think of the subjects surrounding us and the in-built frames, blind-spots, and preferences that affect what is seen and unseen. Hence the blog’s name, “See to Think,” or in its URL spelling at Wordpress.com, see2think. This ebook takes those first 100 articles and organizes them into ebook form, as a way to enhance the reading and viewing experience and to make up for sources of dissatisfaction of online reading by avoiding the need to click and scroll through the archived entries. The goal of this ebook project is to reach new readers who are not accustomed to blog reading online, and to stimulate other readers to consider a similar conversion of blog articles into ebook form. If others publish their own online writing after seeing this example, the project will realize the goal of connecting more people to more ideas.
