Life was chaotic and unpredictable; made up of a series of events—a collection of firsts.
First crush.
First kiss.
First love.

Between the murky waters, I’d found salvation. And it was all because of him—the broody alpha who appeared at the time I needed him most.
He promised me things, and showed me the life I could have.
But all it took was one moment to destroy everything.

Nothing else mattered.
No one else mattered.
It was him and me against the world.
Until it wasn’t.

I hadn’t known just how forbidden our love was.
I hadn’t known I’d been tutoring his son.
I hadn’t known about the family he had hidden away.
I hadn’t known he was cheating—with me.

I wish I could say I wanted to take it all back, but it’d be a lie.
A blatant lie.

He was my biggest downfall, but I’d never regret it.
Choosing him was never an option, the question was whether he’d risk it all.

Down Fall is book two in the Fallen Duet. The final instalment in the two-part, drama-filled, heart-felt, epic love story.

I read this book all the time hoping I was wrong. That was all a misunderstanding. That really he wasn't a married man for over 15 years and a family man. But no, that was exactly it. I don't understand what's up with these authors romanticizing cheaters. Yes, the marriage was in crisis. So be a man enough to take that fact and file for divorce. The fact that author wants to make his wife look like the villain in the story makes everything seem much worse. I think nothing justifies a betrayal, but when the woman says she also slept with another man honestly I was happy for her. Surely he was soooo honored for not to be upset about it! (I hope you can feel my sarcasm here) It takes effort from both of them to make sure a relationship works and from what I read it was not the wife who spent more than 5 months away from home while taking up several jobs in which he goes without contacting his family all those times during their marrige! And when his wife signs divorce papers and says she's going on vacation in France, is he still upset with her for his son? Was he upset with his wife or thinking of his son while he was between another woman's legs? Nop, I don't think so. What, did he want his wife to stay home while he played house with his new family and live his "happily ever after" ?? And is still offended when the wife will take satisfaction with the other woman ??? Is she wrong ?! How hypocritical can a person be? When I read a novel, I hope to read about men of honor, honest, strong, and faithful. What I read in this book was a cowardly, weak man and a cheater. Was the writing good? Yes, but that's no good to me when the message the story goes is "It's okay for you to cheat on your wife as long as your marriage is in crisis and you're really in love with the other woman."What I wanted to see was an epilogue of the couple after 20 years. Surely the only way to secure the couple's HEA was to take him out of his undercover jobs and put him as the team leader but the question still persists: he himself said that once there was love between him and his ex and yet the relationship fell into the rut after all. Would he remain faithful to his current wife if he remained in the same position? I don't think we can guarantee that right? I'm sorry, but this is just disgusting.

(I apologize that English is not my native language but I hope the idea is clear.)

Again five pink-blue stars for Lola and Brody 💖💙!!!

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

I'm speechless.

Yeah, that is what this duet did to you after you've finished reading both books.

If I say to you, that I was reading this book until three in the morning, it'll be that enough for you to read them 😭?

I thought that the first book was perfect, but when I've finished reading "Down Fall" there was nothing better than this one.

So, this duet is fantastic and you need to read it.

Now, I'm waiting for Cade's story 😍😍😍!

Highly recommended!!!

This book show us a lot of wrong things, yeah!
One trouble marriage and cheat.
What the male character did with your wife was wrong, but he always said this and finished his marriage. Maybe he didn’t fight for this family hard, yeah, sad. But the environment he was at the job, the longest time out of his home and the people surrounded him did wrong with his head, or maybe he was weak.
So, I liked this book a lot, because unfortunately life wasn’t so simple and sometimes people did wrong things, and at the end rested only thinking and regret.
I think the author liked to show us this.

DAMNIT I actually enjoyed the first book and was looking forward to reading this. The first book ends with heroine finding out Hero is undercover cop and is married and has a child. I thought maybe this book would make it clear that maybe he was separated from his wife or they had major issues but NOPE the asshole just cheats on his wife while undercover. I could never root for their love story, whose to say he won’t cheat again on his next undercover mission.

Damnit I wish I had known that when I started the first book because I would not have read it.

After that shocking twist that left us hanging in Free Fall I could not wait to find out what happened net. After I picked my jaw up off the floor I dove right in and devoured Down Fall. I read this book in one sitting and when it was all over, I wanted more. Not because it left me unsatisfied but because I loved Brody and Lola so much that I never wanted it to end. The next day I was left with a major book hangover, and went back to read some of my favorite parts. That is how amazing this series is.

At the end of book 1 we learn that there is a lot more to Brody than we all thought. Yes we knew that he was an undercover agent, but we never expected to find that he has a whole other life outside of his job. One that completely ruined what he had with Lola and hurt her more than he could have imagined. Brody plans on finishing the job and then get back to his regularly scheduled life. Except he cannot get someone off his mind. He has always been the man that he was expected to be, since cleaning up his act. But now he realizes that things have changed, maybe he has changed, but regardless he knows that his life without Lola in it is just not what he wants. He has hurt her so much, can she even find it in her heart to forgive him, and trust him again?

This duet was beautifully written. It is filled with drama and angst, but it never seems over the top. The chemistry between Lola and Brody was evident from the start, but it was so much more to their relationship than that. You just felt the passion and intensity. I wasn't sure how this story would end, which turns the author would take us on. I knew that if these two would end up together, that it would be a very bumpy ride, and it was exactly that. A roller coaster ride filled with emotions, lops and turned, ups and downs. And I loved every minute of it. Every emotion I felt, every time my heart broke, it was al worth it!!! If you love angst, forbidden romances and twists and turns, then this duet is for you. Amazing!!! I cannot wait for Cade's book.

Skimmed through duet, skipping almost all of book 1. No rating.

SPOILERS*****⬇️

Age-gap: H 35, h 19

Based off what I did read, it was okay. I’d give it 3 Stars. A bit angsty as the hero, an undercover agent, was married and had a teenage son, which the heroine discovers at the end of book 1. She was his son’s tutor, hired by his wife without H knowing. H/h had a relationship while he was undercover, investigating her stepbrother and using her to get to him. Interesting premise but I think I wasn’t in the mood to read. I wasn’t sucked into the story, mainly curious.

At one point (book 2), the hero pushes the heroine away because he felt he needed to be with his family. He later leaves his wife, grovels and finds out h is pregnant with his child.

HEA: Yes, a good one and with an epilogue. They’re married and expecting their second baby. (4 yrs later)

Pet peeve: H calls her, ‘kid,’ and she calls him ‘old man.’ The ‘kid’ nickname didn’t work for me.

There should definitely be trigger warning this book is about a cheating liar. I did not expect it and frankly, I was very disappointed with the second book. The first one was 5 stars but I had to lower it because of the things we have discovered at the end of the 1st book. This one? I was not happy at all.
The H is a cheater. The h should leave him and NEVER trust him again.
I hate the author mad from the hero's poor wife a villain. If you cannot make the readers root for the main couple in a different way than by making the victim a villain then DO NOT USE CHEATING TROPE.
Very much disappointed.

Nope, not for me, I can't get over the age gap especially since I have a daughter that age. If some dirty old man would try to knock her up and make her a stepmom to a 15 year old I would have his balls. This book seem like a prelude to an episode of Pornhub.
The heroine came across a dense and weak and the hero a selfish jerk.

“Take a leap into the unknown with me”

Wow…..what an angsty/suspense/emotional/age-gap/forbidden love that was. I don’t like cliffhangers so I usually wait for all books in series to be out so I can read them at once. And this duet was/is worth mine & your time.

“I’d hurt Moira by cheating on her, destroyed Lola by walking away from her, and harmed Cade by loving the woman he was crushing on.”

Lola & Brody – undercovered DEA agent (with son&wife) and this beautiful and brave girl in an ugly and dark world. Don’t judge by this sentence above. Yes he is a married man for 15years and his marriage is in crises and nothing justifies cheating – but – there’s always but – things are not what they seem. This energy and attraction between them is electrifying. But of course, there’s drama and twists you don’t expect; Brody fu…up big time, Lola is alone again but so brave for a 19year old girl. She has suffered so much in her life, been through so much because of her scum-ass half brother and no family, you just wish while reading for her to have her happy end. But you want her happy end with Brody and nothing less.
So, you will get wrapped in their story, you will stop breathing at times, you will turn into a monster and you will want to do murder at one point…but there’s a happy end and you can finally breathe again.

Brilliant and thrilling series you don’t want to miss!

"No one ever said the road to happiness was one without any rocks blocking the way. Life was hard, full of hurt, anger, and heartbreak. It had made us stronger, but it wasn’t easy to navigate......
Souls like ours aren’t destined to be apart. We would always find each other, it just took us a little while.”

I thought he would be separated or it was a misunderstanding, but no! He is married with a son. He was cheating the entire time in book 1 without feeling guilty for hurting his family. DNF.

This picked up right where we left off with a shock that completely destroys Lola. But I was so proud of Lola from the first page in how she continued to fight for herself. She wasn’t easily broken. She stayed focused and had internal strength to go on. You go girl! But you can only take so much. She continued to get the brunt of everything. She couldn’t catch a break. My heart ripped so much for her. You are going to need tissues! The tears, the pain and agony. She suffered but her bravery and her desire to do the right thing and get a better life drove her to do what only she could. “It’s either him or me coming out of this”.

Brody had a lot to answer for. He hurt Lola so much and continued to do so as he made his choice and fed her his lines. He had a life outside of work. His wife, his son. But his life wasn’t what it appeared. The author painted a slight picture of a loving and loyal relationship in book one but come to find out that it was not what it seemed. Was it a cop out? (Ha, no pun intended!) A couple of cracks to this story...I would have loved to get a bit more info instead of glossing over it quickly to move the story along. Cade, his son, idolized his dad yet he was easily understanding of what happened and not a whole lot of grief given to him. Again, to easy to move the story along where we could have gotten into their heads and feelings more. This part could have used more development. And his Lola, yeah not enough groveling, some explanation, huge sacrifice- but to easy still. I was waiting for him to suffer or endure similar pain so he would know what it’s like to love and loss or close to enough to equal the playing field so it would be a bit more satisfying. Lastly, if you follow police procedural you would find it odd that their police work at the end was shoddy. I was surprised that given Brody and teams protective nature in book 1 that they were very laxed in book 2 about surveillance and investigation. A known drug dealer out on bail - where was the surveillance? How was Lola not being watched or protected? Not once but twice?!? How was Hut able to continue to do what he wanted? How did they not find the other missing crew? How did Moira know about his work details?

In the end I loved this duet. The writing was well done, story was thrilling and the characters were captivating. Loved the epilogue and Iooking forward to Cade’s story!

They were supposed to be DEA?

I got so much anxiety reading this. So many scenarios meant to set a tone or draw out suspense only made the bumbling idiots that were supposed to be DEA agents seem more like high school nerds and rent-a-cop dropouts. This series was both not enough and too freakin much. Too bad because it could have been a great read if it had some actual depth to it.

Down Fall is the second book in the Fallen duet by Abigail Davies. This duet is very different from her Confessions series, which I loved, but after reading the blurb I really wanted to read it.

And the book is once again amazing! I loved it so much! It was an amazing sequel to the first one. The writing was really good as always and the story was amazing. I love Brody and Lola.

Another 5 stars for this amazing author: Abigail Davis

Wow Down Fall book 2 and the final part to Brody & Lola's epic rollercoaster story, does not disappoint in anyway.

Picking up right where we were left at the end of part 1, this story keeps slamming you with massive hits, twists and leaves you screaming, crying, smiling and then re-thinking all that you thought you knew after reading part 1, but we do get all the answers we have been patently waiting for.

DNF, chapter 5. Listened free on Audible and even Troy Duran couldn’t save this for me.

I was hopeful after the first one that the whole marriage thing was a misunderstanding. Just like Lola I was like “maybe they’re separated, or divorced?” But nope. Brody just straight up cheats on his wife with a girl only a few years older than his son. Then had the audacity to be all “I’m loyal to a fault” (nope) and all preachy in his internal dialogue about how Hut has no respect… Sir, neither do you. For your wife or your unwitting mistress. And then we get the lovely scene where he is comparing his wife to Lola by whining about the fact that she wears more makeup than she used to and has fake nails now. My eyes are rolling so hard they may never sit right in my head again. That’s some Pick Me writing, sorry not sorry.

Then the glaring issue with the drug ring structure… somehow 23 year old Hut is the “leader” that the DEA is after even more so than the cartel leader who apparently wants to buy drugs from him… Abigail Davies, have you never seen a single drug show or movie? The cartels run everything. They aren’t customers to some early 20s wannabe gangster who somehow acquires premium coke NOT from them.

And the final nail in the coffin. The surprise pregnancy trope. End me.

When we met Brody in Free Fall we thought that the biggest secret he had was his undercover assignment but the cliff hanger left us knowing that the next secret to be revealed will devastate Lola to the core. She is left reeling, questioning her judgment when it comes to her life and those she allows in it, but her strength and resilience shines through which only has wanting her to have her happy ever after that much more.

Although it broke his heart to do so Brody had a choice to make and that choice couldn’t be Lola. Two broken hearts with so much to overcome will Brody finally realize what he needs to do before it is too late and that choice is taken from him?

Angst and emotion radiate off the pages in the second part of the duet which combined with the suspense element will have you invested until the last page and hoping that these two people who met under the worst of circumstances can find their way back to each other.

Here I am again...
Heart meet Lola and Brody.
Aww you think they are a good couple?
You want to see them walk in the sunshine and live happily ever after?
Well too FUCKING bad...
And here I was thinking that maybe, just maybe Davies would take a little pity on my heart. Especially after how she fucking slaughtered me with how Lola and Brody's story started in the first part of this duet. But, apparently the sweet loving Davies said "FUCK THAT" and decided to go in for the kill. I mean really I should have known that my emotions would't get off that easy. So now I'm sitting here yet again trying to find a way to really express why any real masochist needs to get their hands on this duet.
Well her I go...
I knew that there was going to be some really big grovelling moments for Brody, with all the shit that came to light at the end of Free Fall. I mean when he fucks up, he did it big time. Now we have Lola showing us just how strong she is. She's making changes for herself when it comes to her life. And I found myself right there beside her rutting her on. Yet I still also wanted Brody to own up to his fuck up and show that things aren't what they seemed. I so just wanted Lola to have the HEA that she deserves. Actually I didn't only want her to get it, I needed her to. My heart rate/blood pressure depended on it happening. But, mostly I needed Brody to the person that gives Lola her HEA. And in true "Davies" form nothing would come that easy for Lola and Brody.
Form the beginning of this journey, that is the Fallen Duet, I have wanted to stab the king of assholes Hut in his black heart. there was no way he could bring me to have even an ounce of hope for him. There was no saving him. Ans he just kept giving me more and more reasons to find ways to kill and dispose of his body. And now another person has joined Hut on my little kill list, Moira. That's right Brody's wife and mother of Cade. I started off feeling for her. But, then she showed her true colors to everyone. And let's just say the true Moira really that there was really nothing there between Brody and her. Hell even Cade knew that his parents were better off not being together.
I just wanted a HEA. Was that really too much to hope for? I don't think so. But, does this HEA really need to come easy? I would like it too, but I don't expect it to be done this way. All these were the thoughts that went thru my head while I was reading This heart squeezing book. I just know that it's a good thing I stopped myself from throwing my e-reader across the room. And the reason is because now I'm going to be ever so patiently be waiting for the next duet to be released that will give me Cade's story.

This book picks up right where the first one ends, when we discover that the secret Brody is keeping devastates Lola—he’s married and has a son. The fact that he cheated made me really dislike Brody, especially since Lola had already been through so much in her 19 years. I was proud of her for finally standing up for herself and breaking free from Hut’s control.

I do wish the author had shown us more of Brody at home with his wife and child, so we could better understand where the breakdown in their marriage happened. In book one, he was painted as having a loving, loyal relationship, but that definitely wasn’t the case here.

I also found it hard to understand how Cade didn’t get more time to grieve over his parents’ marriage ending, especially given the added blow of his dad getting the girl he had a crush on pregnant. Brody definitely should have had to do more groveling to win Lola back.

One thing I didn’t like was how the author made Brody’s wife the villain—it felt unnecessary. On the other hand, I loved seeing Lola surrounded by people who genuinely cared for her. Sal was like a protective father figure, and Jan was a wonderful friend, helping her move into her own place and even going with her to the doctor when she found out she was pregnant.

I was surprised by how lax Brody and his team seemed this time around. In book one, they were portrayed as very protective, but here, their surveillance and investigation felt sloppy. How was Hut released on bail and not being watched? And why was Lola left unprotected not once, but twice? There was even another incident that could have been prevented if they’d been doing their jobs. That said, I still enjoyed the added drama.

I do wish the story had been fleshed out a bit more—for example, how did Moira know about his work details?

Overall, though, I really loved the story. It kept me invested, the plot was thrilling, and the characters were interesting. The epilogue was fantastic, and I’m looking forward to the rest of the series.

After the action packed, wild ride that was Free Fall, the somewhat slower start to Down Fall lulled me into a false sense of security. I forgot for a moment who we were dealing with here, what cruel, controlling characters were still lurking in the shadows plotting and planning their own agendas.

I loved Lola, a strong young woman, a real survivor, who had seen more of the seedier side of life that she should have at her age. Still compassionate despite all the hurt in her life, and determined to forge a new, positive and successful life for herself, I really hoped she would find the peace and stability she craved. Her journey was a challenging and difficult one, and when you don’t know what lies ahead, how do you prepare for the trip?

Now Brody I was not so sure of. I did not agree with the choices he made in Free Fall and the way those choices were justified by making a certain party seem volatile and nasty, did not sit well with me. It’s difficult to explain without giving away spoilers, but if I could’ve changed one thing it would’ve been for the situation to have been dealt with in a different way. I think as a reader we were supposed to dislike this person because of their reactions but I actually ended up feeling sorry for them, even if their malice was aimed at the wrong person. I did, however, like Brody as a father and began to warm to him the more time he spent with his son. I really enjoyed the interactions between him and Cade, who was a brilliant character in his own right. I’m really excited that we get his story next.

Action packed and unexpected, Down Fall is a great conclusion to this duet. Whilst there were times when I doubted that this couple would find their HEA, nevertheless I was cheering them on. I loved the shocks and surprises and the edge of the seat moments which made up this rollercoaster ride of a story. This duet may have been the first books I’ve read by this author but they won’t be the last.

A gritty and dark contemporary romance.

Genre: Dark Contemporary Romance
Tropes: Age Gap, Forbidden, Undercover agent, wrong side of the tracks, strong FMC, surprise pregnancy, other woman drama, cheating, angst
Spice: 3/5
Content Warnings: drug use, domestic violence, threat of sexual assault, sexual assault attempt
POV: 1st person POV, alternating between main characters
Audiobook: Dual narration

We pick up with Brody and Lola after the big plot twist reveal from book 1. I had guessed part of it, but not all of it. The fall-out was satisfying. The storyline deviated quite a bit from book 1, obviously, because our characters are now in totally different situations.

Lola has made her escape, but now she knows the truth about Brody. And the revelation that she is pregnant?! For someone who is as careful and organized as Lola, I was surprised by the pregancy. It demonstrates how much of a Free Fall, Brody and Lola were in, to totally disregard basic contraception. Brody has to get back to his undercover operation and is dealing with a shitstorm at home, all while still obsessed with Lola. He has to put her in the past. He ends their relationship. We now have a huge wedge between the main characters. The angst is at level 100%.

Will Lola get dragged back into Hut's circle? How far will Brody go to finish the job? Will our star-crossed lovers get their Happily Ever After?

The Fallen Duet could have been 1 book. Honestly, book 2 kind of dragged. The surprise villain at the end seemed random. It could have been built up a little better. Maybe there were clues earlier in the Duet that I didn't catch. Despite those small complaints, I still loved this book. The cover art on the books was deceiving, and made it look like a vanilla, contemporary romance. This Duet was the opposite, perhaps my biggest surprise of 2025.

Abigail Davies, I swear, you have me as an author stalker for LIFE!
Down Fall is the finale to Lola & Brody's story.
You meet Lola and Brody in the first part to this duet, called Free Fall.
Those of you who have read the story, you all know how Free Fall's cliffhanger just about killed us.
This book starts off with Lola and Brody's separation. Lola isn't sure who Brody is anymore. She manages to leave Hut's house and find an apartment for herself, but she doesn't tell anyone where she is going, because she is set on making it on her own. &Brody is set on making things work with his family. Brody decides he is finally ready to end things and take Hut down. But, nothing goes as planned, and staying away from Lola was as hard as he thought it would be.
I won't give anymore of a description, because the drama, suspense, and action galore, need to be experienced while you are reading. Along with all of the twist's and turns, & you won't be able to put this book down! I don't know what I was originally expecting before I picked this duet up, but the story in it's entirety was SO more than anyone could've imagined. It kept me hooked, and NEEDING to know what was going to happen next.
If you have read Free Fall, all I have left to say is that you need to put down whatever you are reading right now, &you HAVE to finish this duet ASAP. Lola and Brody's story is messy but brilliant. There is SO much between these pages, and you don't want to miss out on any of it, I promise.
I so happily stand by my 5 star rating for this amazing finale to a phenomenal duet!
Congratulations to Abigail Davies on her new release!
