Alpha Lords #5

Dragonlord

Rate this book
A dragon does not ask. He takes.

When Bridget set out on her own, she sought freedom from the strict rules of her pack. What she found was a beast more stern and demanding than any alpha wolf, a creature of legend intent on claiming her as his mate and breeding her to bring his kind back into the world. A dragon.

Gideon did not ask the little she-wolf if she wanted to belong to him. It was not up to her. The moment he awoke and smelled the scent of his mate, she became his. He tracked her down, punished her defiance, and then ravaged her until a thousand years of lust was fully slaked.

He did not mark her with his teeth like a wolf. He did not need to. Her body knows its master.

Publisher's Note: Dragonlord is a stand-alone novel set in the same world as Warlord, Overlord, and Wolflord. It includes spankings and sexual scenes. If such material offends you, please don't buy this book.

First of all, if you love every book this author ever writes or if you love every book in this genre, then please read the multiple four- and five-star reviews this book will undoubtedly get; my tags should tell you that I don't like this author. I also warn you that the below contains spoilers.

I wasn't going to review this since by now I know what I'll get when I read a Delta James book, but then I came across this:
“Then if you are bound and determined to kidnap me and hold me against my will...” She stopped when Gideon began to laugh at her. “It’s not funny, Gideon. I never asked to be your mate. In fact, you never asked me and apparently have turned me without my consent. That may be fine in your culture, but it is unthinkable in mine.”
When an author forgets the entire plot of one of her books (in this case, Overlord, in which a shifter turns a human woman without her consent, knowingly nearly killing her in the process) then I figure all bets are off.

I'd also like to add that the correct order in which a single parent takes on a new partner is: 1) Tell potential love interest about child; 2) Tell child about potential love interest; 3) If both are fine, then remarry (or "re-mate," if that's a word). NOT 1) Remate; 2) Tell mate about child; and 3) Tell child about mate. For a supposedly doting mother, Bridget spent long snatches of this book seemingly forgetting she has a child.

Finally, there's nothing new under Ms. James's sun here. All the H's, h's, storylines, and titles in this series could simply be reshuffled; I defy anyone to tell the difference:

1) Heroine who is beaten by shifter who isn't her love interest because it's for her own good. Heroine then runs away to seek autonomy because she is supposedly strong and independent, but folds at her first spanking from her over-the-top shifter love interest. Check. (Side Note: I wonder at what point the male shifters will realize that all their beatings are accomplishing is putting the women in more danger?)

2) Over-the-top shifter who claims to love his mate, but won't listen to anything she says, respect her in any way, or believe she's good for anything other than sex & breeding. Check.

3) Heroine who runs away again, puts herself in danger, and is caught and beaten by the over-the-top shifter who is angry at her for leaving even though he's (fill-in-the-blank) without her consent. Check.

4) Heroine(s) who saves over-the-top shifter(s) and then is beaten for it; her courage is not rewarded or even recognized. Check.

There, now you have the entire plot of every single volume in this series. While I understand that authors have certain tropes they stick with and that readers enjoy, there is a point where the exact same relationship dynamic, identical narrative structure, and interchangeable characters become formulaic. And that has happened here.

Ms. James has, however, created one new sub-genre: the shifter/wolf/dragon/*BDSM genre. Other authors: What are you waiting for? Have at it!

*This is a misnomer, since if there's non-consent, it's not "BDSM," but pointing this out is a losing battle.

ETA: Because I'm tired of gatekeepers on this site telling everyone some version of to not "get this book and then leave a bad review because you didn't like the contents," I'm rating this (I'm leaving 2 stars because Gideon isn't as awful as the H's in the other books). If you'd bother to read it, you know that what I'm mostly objecting to is the sameness of the narrative. No, "dark" does not explain/excuse everything. No, "dark" is not an automatic five- and four-star read; and if you think it is, you owe it to readers who may be spending their hard-earned money in part because of your reviews to tell the that (it's not lost on me that many who shame others for their reviews are ARC reviewers -- because they're NOT partial at all). Also, I'm leaving the below.

Dear Self-Appointed Gatekeepers on this Website,

Before you "flame" another reader for their review, I've provided this handy-dandy checklist of things you may want to consider first. Of course, free speech means that within the guidelines of this site you are free to ignore these suggestions, but, you may find that they will save you time and energy in the long run. So, without further ado...

I want to shame someone for their review. Before I do so, have I asked myself the following:

1) Would I, in turn, want to be shamed for my own feelings about this book/author/genre?

2) Does this review ruin my day, week, month, and/or life?

3) Does this review either prevent or call for preventing the author from writing, the publisher from releasing, Amazon from selling, Goodreads from listing, me or any other reader from reading, and/or me or any other reviewer from reviewing?

4) Does the publisher's blurb sufficiently warn a reader about what they will be getting? (One example reviewers often use is if the book contains non-consent, has the blurb indicated that it's "dark?" This very precise, non-ambiguous word, you see, is supposed to explain everything.)

5) Does this review make a distinction between kink (spanking and other BDSM practices) AND misogyny (the H thinks that he's superior to the h by virtue of his anatomy and preaches that the h is less than because of her gender)?

6) Does this review make a distinction between dominance/hurt (for example, the H ties the h up and sexually teases her) AND physical, emotional, and mental cruelty/harm (for example, the H does not let the h return home with him to get her daughter)?

7) Is my stance that anything goes in fiction/this genre/erotica the hill I want to die on, knowing that I may read a book that contains homophobia, transphobia, racism, classism, abelism, antisemitism, islamophobia, xeonophobia, and/or misogyny that I find unpalatable? (Note: I, JD, am NOT saying that any of these -- other than the misogyny -- are present in this particular book.)

8) Is my stance that one should only leave good reviews the hill I want to die on, knowing that I may read a book -- even in the genre I love -- that I don't like?

9) Am I really objective or do I have any sort of vested interest in this book/author/genre? That is: am I an ARC reviewer who may be swayed by the promise of a free book? Am I "friends" with this author IRL, on this site, or any social media site? Am I a fellow author (or even the author themselves) who has hosted this writer on my website and, in turn, been hosted on theirs? Am I a subscriber to any of the publishing companies who regularly release these books?

10) Do I really want to direct vitriol at a complete stranger who has never done anything to me in any way, shape, or form?

11) Do I really want to waste my time attacking this review via comments or not-so-implicitly referring to it in my own review knowing this reader is unlikely to desist from reviewing or change their reviews?

If you can answer numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, (the first part of) 9, 10, and 11 in the affirmative, and numbers 5 and 6 in the negative, then, by all means, flame and shame. It's your time to waste (see #11).

I wanted to like this story, but there were certain aspects that I had trouble getting past. Gideon is a dragon shifter and Lord of the Earth. He is awakened because his mate is calling to him and it's now time to bring dragons back after almost being decimated as a species. Bridget had already been mated to an alpha wolf and after his passing, is now looking to finally have a choice in life. Unfortunately, it seems she still has no choice because she also has a dragon mate. I liked the idea of dragons and wolves and I also had no issue with the dominance thing. The problem was that Bridget had no voice for anything. The response of all the male characters to get their way was to spank the females into submission.

Left a bad taste

this book was a lot of back and fourth arguing and was constantly being repetitive. Mostly spankings and sex. What really had me giving it 2 stars was Bridget as a parent, she only thinks about her child like twice, she even thinks her (new mate) is not gonna except her kid if they mate, but mates him anyway, then tells him after the fact that she has a child?! And the sad part is I felt her child was more adult then her, the girl is 6 and her dad was killed and her mom is like " I need to go an explore, you understand? " yeah of course ur 6 year old who climbing into bed with u after her dad died and misses u like crazy while u tell her imma stay two days then gonna go do me, then str8 up despair for awhile! "And this guy wants kids with the lady! Lord! book left a bad taste in my mouth! I can deal with a lot of b.s in a book, except a bad/ selfish parent.

I'm 71% done with Dragonlord: So far, I am skimming most of this book. I was not previously familiar with this author, so I did not realize the book was pornographic. A lot of the "romance" reads like a work-around for rape. I don't want, I want, I don't want but go ahead... not impressed.

I love dragons and will grab up just about any dragon book I come across. However, I positively do not like discipline, punishment, or spanking themes, feeling they are completely inappropriate as relates to adults. I am sorry I didn’t catch that this was one of those books when I grabbed it for review.

Gideon, a fierce dragon, awoke and scented his mate, a wolf shifter named Bridget. She had no choice in the matter. She was his whether she wanted to be or not. He tracked her down and punished her for defiance, then had his way with her to make up for the thousand years he slept without her. (My love for dragons took a nose-dive after reading this loving testimonial to finding one’s mate.)

As stated, this is not a book I am comfortable with. I love dragons and all shifters, but kinky behaviors that strive to demean a woman are very upsetting to me and I couldn’t finish the book. This is not to say others may not enjoy it – it’s just not my “cup of tea”.

Listened to audio narrated well by Jack Calihan. I thought Jack did a wonderful job narrating Gideon, it was so easy to envision the dragonlord and his growly, overbearing nature.

So let's start with the warnings, this is not going to appeal to any politically correct sensibilities. This story is about a male dominated culture, where the men have final say on all things and the women have little choice. If they disobey or try to escape their situation they are hunted down and spanked and punished for their disobedience, even put in corners to reflect on their behavior.

Bridgette is a wolf shifter and was forced to mate the alpha of her clan and when he died she is determined never to be forced into a mating again. She leaves her daughter behind to hunt for a place where women can live free from forced and unwanted matings. I thought Bridgette was a strong smart woman and yet she continued to do stupid things leaving me disappointed in her.

Gideon is a dragon shifter who has risen after a long sleep to discover his One True Heart is in the world. He hunts her down and will not let her evade him. At first I thought I'd enjoyed his strength and dominance but then it took a turn feeling more abusive than loving and the story started unraveling for me.

I thought this story had a good beginning, I liked that Bridgette was going to forge a new path that would provide hope for unwanted matings but that line of the story was more a thought that any action, even though the author tried to revive it again towards the end. I wanted to feel the connection between Gideon and Bridgette but it all seemed very forced. A lot of dark romance uses kink to enhance strong feelings but I just didn't feel it. It started with a heated first meeting where their attraction has them jumping into bed but he doesn't tell her that their first coupling is going to change her into a dragon shifter. There's a lot of spankings and harsh punishments that lead to erotic sex, there's even a brutal mating that is more pain than enjoyment with little preparation and it left me feeling very cold rather than engaged with this couple.

There's also a disconnect between the previous book Overlord and this one where Bridgette claims their people don't condone forced changes and yet that's exactly what happened in Overlord.
While I enjoyed the narration, this book was just on the edge of an okay read for me.

This book is one in a series, which you don't know when you're choosing books thru Kindle Unlimited. So needless to say, I ended up reading them out of order. These books are not badly written, it's just the same theme repeated over and over and over again. Bratty heroine, fated male mate, spanking and light humiliation. Same characters with new characters introduced thru out the series. I am, however, curious to know if there will be another in this series as there are still 2 characters that we have been introduced to but don't know their story. Granted, they are going to find their fated mate, she's going to be a bratty heroine that gets spanked. But still, I would like to know what happens between Duncan and Kellen, which has nothing to do with the themes of these books but does bring an interesting concept into the story.

MY LIFE TO YOUR HEART—MY HEART TO YOUR LIFE

Once again, Ms. Delta James has penned a page-turning, action-packed, romantic suspense filled shifter tale. Whether you have read her Wayward Mates series or not, the story will read well as a stand-alone. If you did read Wayward Mates, the story takes place many years into the future; a plague has ravished the earth, things are returned to the old ways, before technology.

NOTE: This is a post-apocalyptic dark shifter romance. It contains explicit sex scenes and may seem as non-con or dubious consent—but it is the way of life among these shifters---especially when they are fated-mates. It is a way of life, with a strong, dominant alpha male and an equally strong submissive female who eventually capitulates and finds the pleasure in his control and mastery over her body. Yes, it even comes with the coveted HEA ended.

A millennia Gideon has been asleep, but now he awakens, does that mean it is time to return home and finally claim his mate? “Had the gods seen fit to finally gift him with his true heart?”

“Thank you for welcoming me home. May the best of our past be the worst of our future.”

With changes at Dundalk, the death of her mate and Alpha, and new Alpha and mistress, Bridget wants to be in charge of her own fate, and not allow another to tell her who she will be mated to. With the legend of a pack of she-wolves who ruled their own keep in America, she has decided that this will be her goal, and she will plan to leave out and find a place, establish a safe refuge. But once again, Bridget’s life will take a turn, but much different than when the Alpha wolf claimed she was his fated mate. Now, a mythical dragon is sniffing at her tail.

“I’m not sure what my destiny holds, but I think I’m done with having males decide my fate. I have begun to wonder if I am not alone.”

Once Gideon catches the scent of his true heart, nothing will stop him from finding her. When he meets up with her in a tavern, he boldly claims her as his and takes her to her room where he will ravish her for the night. But when morning comes, Bridget has slipped away, and now Gideon must chase her down. What she doesn’t seem to understand is that his claiming of her has altered her DNA, and she has begun a new transformation.

“He shook his head as he realized that she had gone. He read the note she’d left behind and snorted. He wasn’t at all surprised that she had bolted. She was smart enough to recognize her master and foolhardy enough to believe she could escape her destiny. She would find that a dragon was far more formidable adversary than a wolf. Dragons enjoyed hunting regardless of their prey, and today, his was the most elusive treasure of all—his true heart.”

Gideon: “My beloved—my true heart—my fated mate if you will.”
Bridget” “No! I won’t have it. I am not anyone’s fated mate and sure not some overgrown lizards!”
Gideon: “I fear as with your kind’s fated mate, my species true heart is not something one chooses. One is simply given the gift, and it is best to accept it graciously and with an open mind.”
Bridget: “My father forced me into a pairing, not of my choosing; I am no longer mistress of Dundalk but rather mistress of my own fate.”
Gideon: “You are mate to a dragonlord, and your body has already begun to shift to accept what you are meant to be—a dragon and my mate. I am your mate and master and will see you conquered and bred. You are now dragon and it’s best if you accept that.”

Once again, Bridget finds her life has been altered. Yes, she was born a she-wolf, mated by fate to the Alpha of Dundalk, widowed and making plans for her future. Along comes a dragon and boldly claims she is his true heart—or fated mate—and now she is changing.

“Why is it men, be they dragon or wolf, seem to think nothing of just turning a woman’s life completely upside down and then get pissy when we don’t just go along?”

“Don’t fight me, Bridget. It will do you no good, and the dragon’s tongue will only dig deeper to ensure your surrender. You are dragon; embrace your fate and let me pleasure you in a far more profound way than you have ever known.”

“She realized her life was no longer her own; it was joined with Gideon’s and the fate of the dragons—not just because hs had become dragon, but because regardless she would choose this man to be her mate. I fear your dragonlord has saddled himself with a red-haired, nasty-tempered she-wolf, daughter of an Irish fisherman.”

The story has plenty of angst between Bridget and Gideon, and she fights him on his claim, demanding she has the right to choose her future but learns quickly, she is no longer in control. I love the chemistry and twist to this edition of the Dark Shifter Romance series, and with the ending of this tale, it gives us a glimpse of what is to come. Will wolf shifters and dragon shifters team together? As with the other stories in this series, it contains discipline and explicit sex scenes—but there are some unique characteristics to a dragon---read it and find out!

This was my first dragon shifter book! I’d looked at several, but hadn’t chosen one because I love wolf shifters. This didn’t disappoint and I’m looking forward to reading Warlord and Overlord. Both books are about wolf shifters, but the stories lead to Dragonlord. The author wrote each book as standalone stories, but the characters overlap and tie in with the what I hope will be a dragon shifter series. Bridget is a born she-wolf that was the fated mate of the former Alpha of Dundalk in Ireland. It was a mating that she had not wanted, but she eventually fell in love with her mate. They had a daughter, named Ciara and not long after her birth, he was killed in battle. That left Bridget a widow and her mates brother, Ruari had taken over the pack as Alpha. Bridget had always disliked having to submit to a mate and loathed physical punishments that men doled out to women that they deemed disobedient. She disliked not having a choice in the matters of her life and vowed to not be married off to another wolf. She desired to find a safe place to create a sanctuary for she-wolves that had been forced to mate. She secretly left Dundalk Castle without her Alph’s permission, in search of a fabled village that had been carved into a cliff on a mountain because she believed it would be a safe dwelling for the sanctuary. There was trouble brewing between the wolf shifters, due to greed. Certain packs wanted to takeover lands of other wolf packs as well as the lands of the dragons. Most humans and shifters knew of the destruction of the last dragon born female and her eggs. It was assumed that all dragons had been destroyed, but it wasn’t true. The last 4 male dragons were placed under a sleeping spell. The Dragonlord of the Earth, Gideon, awakened with no idea why he woke and not his brothers. He waited for several days to see if they would and then decided to head for his home of Tintagel, in search of the descendants of his former beta. On his flight home, he caught the scent of his long awaited mate and vowed to find her after he checked on his home. Of course he eventually found Bridget and revealed that she’s his mate, but Bridget wanted none of that. The rest of the story is a bit of cat and mouse as Bridget tried her best to get away from Gideon. I liked the story but wasn’t a fan of the sex scenes. After the first two, I skipped over them. I like Gideon and Bridget together but thought it ridiculous to not tell the being that turned you into a dragon without your consent that you have a child before he schleps you off to Cornwall. I found it annoying that Bridget was able to call forth her dragon on her own and then flew for hours until she was too tired to make it back to Tintagel in time for her bonding ceremony! So, that’s why I gave it 3.75 stars. This book ends in a cliffhanger

Delta James done it again with this book.

Bridget was the former mistress of Dundalk to the fallen alpha. Ruari the younger brother is now alpha leader of the pack.
Bridget decided to leave Dundalk to see what was outside borders and she left her daughter ciara behind and said that she will be back soon.

Gideon was awakened from his sleep by the scent of his true mate.while he watched he picked up a scent of his true heart but decided to go home first to Cornwall.when he arrived he was greeted by Cadan who was waiting for him who ancestors have severed under his command. He told cadan that he would lasts again soon to find his mate and bring her back home.Gideon lefted his home and followed the scent of his mate which was strong and called to him.

Bridget was enjoying her freedom having not having her bottom smacked and not forced to mate with another.she rode to coast and realised that she had not shifted into her wolf for awhile and she enjoyed the freedom but then a large shadow passed over head she looked up and was surprised to see a dragon.Bridget changed back and rode down the coast to a village rent a room but slept fitfully and was sexual aroused.

Gideon followed her scent but was only two days behind from information that he received and he found the tavern that Bridget was staying when he walked though the door then he looked around and found her asked he could join her for dinner but bridget Feeling emboldened said if he wanted dinner she wanted some one to warm her bed.Gideon took her up on the offer and explained exactly and explicitly what he was going to do to her.

I don’t want to spoil the rest of the book to you but the characters are great Bridget is a feisty she wolf and likes her freedom and does not like getting her bottom smacked.Gideon is a alpha dragon who takes what he wants and punishes her when she runs away from him.The chemistry between these two is steamy and hot as hell with some steamy sex scenes though the book.you also see a soft side of both characters and learn about the lives.some of the other characters from the previous book are in the story as well.

I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait to read more books from this author.

Wolf shifter female finds herself with a dragon shifter……
Bridget had always been a strong wolf shifter who was as fiery as her red hair and as devious as the very best fishermen and who would ensure that no woman would ever be forced to be in a forced mating whether they be wolf, human or mutant she was determined she would see only willing partners.
Gideon had been sleeping for over a 1000 year and when he had awoken he had wondered why then the fragrance of daffodils and a great yearning had awoken inside him, he had waited for his three brothers also in the cave with him but after three days he had realised they would remain sleeping so had returned to his home Tintagel where his people had been waiting for him.
When Bridget and Gideon came together they had realised that she was in fact The Song Of His Heart and she was his One True Heart and they love they felt was in fact extremely bumpy however it soon became apparent that they were meant to be together and that she was in fact the hope of the future for dragons.
Ciara was Bridget’s six-year-old daughter and was born from the relationship between Bridget and the Alpha of Dundalk, however since his death had remained living there with her daughter and his brother Ruari who was now mated to Arielle.
This was a wonderful introduction to the relationship between the dragon shifters and wolf shifters who had been known to be mortal enemies, centuries have passed and it has been centuries since the last dragon was seen and they have long been dead.
The story closes with the hope that there might be an alliance between the wolves and Dragon so that they might be ready to face perceived dangers thought to be approaching, the mating between these two very different shifters should bring about change, understanding and family alliances.
Only time and future instalments in this wonderful series will tell, I cannot wait to discover what fate has in store for the wolves and Dragons
What will have happened to Rory and his beautiful Drakonia Bridget?

I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.

If you're looking for a light and airy paranormal romance, let me just stop you now because you're not going to find it here. Delta James' paranormal romance are on the darker side. Now, if that's what your're looking for, please, carry on. These books are not set in todays time, it is somewhere in the future after a planet changing event. Females in this future setting do not have much say in their lives. They are expected to follow orders and do as they're told and disciplined for disobeying. The discipline consists of being spanked, standing in a corner, etc. The sex scenes are plentiful and quite detailed.

This newest book by Delta James follows along with "Warlord", "Overlord" and "Wolflord". Characters from those books make brief appearances in this book, with the exception of Bridget, from "Wolflord", who is a main character in this book.

Bridget, looking to start a sanctuary for females that don't want to be claimed as mates, sneaks away to look for a lost city. Gideon, one of the last dragon shifters, awakens after a 1000 year sleep. When he catches Bridget's scent, the chase begins. When he finds Bridget, he immediately goes to her and stakes his claim. Bridget, not wanting to be mated again, sneaks out and runs. But Gideon is not going to allow his female to escape, she is his one true heart, something all male dragons yearned for. She was his to love and protect from now on, whether she wanted it or not.

If you are unable to get past my first paragraph of this review I do not recommend this book to you. Don't get this book and then leave a bad review because you didn't like the contents. For those that don't skip a beat with that first paragraph, give Delta James a try if you haven't already.

At first, when I started reading I had to ask myself if I'd downloaded the right book because I knew I had already read the war scene. It was Delta James' way of bringing her readers up to date in order to see more of the details and then take us forward. I absolutely loved the fact that Gideon, a dragon bearing the title 'Lord of the Earth', had been sleeping for millennia and suddenly awakens. That just brought my interest to the front immediately. ~DRAGONS REAPPEARING AFTER ALL THIS TIME!! Yeah, count me in!~ He's bigger than life with a personality that just comes across as self-assured, confident, and because he's a dragon feels like the minor details of mere mortals and other shifters are of no consequence when it comes to what he feels should be done, especially when it comes to finding and claiming his true heart. Bridget has an incredibly strong personality which is amazing since her life has been tossed from pillar to post. She's the daughter of an Irish fisherman who was in love with a young man from her clan. Once the Alpha of Dundalk convinced her father she was his fated mate that put an end to her small romance and she became the mistress of the clan until he was killed in battle. Now without even a by your leave, she finds out she's not only the fated mate or true heart to a dragon but has been changed into one as well. A wonderful read that kept me intrigued and highly entertained with these strong characters.

Dragonlord
A Dark Shifter Romance
By: Delta James
Narrated by: Jack Calihan

Bridget, the former mistress of Dundalk and wolf shifter decides to explore outside it's borders. Awakened by her scent, Gideon leaves home to find Bridget. He does find her, and their connection is immediate. One night of steamy passion leaves them sated, but when Gideon awakes, he finds Bridget gone. She doesn't realize she is his now. And with their coupling, she finds herself changing, and not into a wolf. They are true soulmates and now life will be different. Gideon is a strong alpha male, and takes what he wants. He has no problem punishing Bridget if her behavior does not suit him. Bridget is feisty though, and while she takes her punishment, it does not make her back down. I love that about her. She tells him exactly as it is! But she does hold a secret that may ruin them. What will happen when he finds out? I loved the ending of this one. It's hot, steamy , and if you enjoy shifter romance with a touch of darkness, this one is for you

With a character like Gideon, you need a narrator that can be both strong and tender. Jack Calihan's voice fits him perfectly. He has a deep, slightly raspy voice that holds that commanding tone. It's seductive and alluring! He easily falls into Bridget with a slight accent and he brings this shifter romance to life!

I am loving this series, they don't end on cliff hangers and do end with HEA. Delta James has a winner with this read in my opinion. I loved the Alpha, you tell he completely adored Brittney even though he tore that hiney up, in more ways than one. The abilities that his manly part had were mouth dropping. She had been mated before but lost her husband in battle and wasn't looking to get mated again. She has the most precious daughter and she has a mission deep in her heart for abused or unwilling females, to offer a safe place if they want to escape and her Alpha will back her in this desire. He changes her from a wolf shifter into a Dragon without her knowing or consent to which she has a serious problem with but it gets worked out. They have a great relationship, friendship, fun, laughter.. and of course sometimes a female just has to do what she thinks is right even if she has to pay the consequences. It was a fun easy read and I thoroughly enjoyed and I will be reading the others as well. I highly recommend this book if your a shifter fan. I did notice a lot of typos but it didn't take anything away from the story. Sherrie

I enjoyed this book quite a bit. Bridget set out to find some land that she could take/acquire by undisclosed means, in order to establish a sanctuary for she-wolves. A somewhat harebrained scheme as her only plan of defence was to hope that the location would be a secret. It was not a particularly safe time for women to be travelling about on their own but Bridget either had an over inflated opinion of her abilities or gave it little thought. That was a bit concerning as she left her 6 year old back at the castle for others to look after while she went looking for the piece of land she had heard rumours about. Along the way Gideon, her true heart, equivalent to a fated mate found her and they come together in a blaze of glory it seems. I'm looking forward to the other Dragonlords finding their true hearts.

Wow wow wow what a bloody good story it’s about Bridget who’s a wolf shifter she’s had enough of alphas forcing the females to mate with them her alpha mate was dead and she didn’t want to be forced into another mating so she heard of a place where female wolves run their own pack and they aren’t forced into mating so that’s where she planned to go but fate had other ideas in the form of a dominant alpha dragon shifter Gideon. Gideon was woken from a 1000 year sleep by a scent that he knew was his heart so he went looking for her and when he found her they spent the night together by the next morning she was gone but Gideon is a dragon he enjoys the chase plus he has already claimed her and now Bridget will start the change from wolf to dragon. 🔥🔥🔥 that’s what this story is and ohh boy the scenes were very detailed, this is such a fantastic story and I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.

This is another great addition to this series featuring a powerful dragon, Gideon and an equally powerful she-wolf, Bridget. Now a widow, Bridget wants to form a safe haven for she-wolves who are trying to escape forced matings and in the process is found by Gideon, a dragon who is her true mate. She fights the mating but in the end relents to Gideon. The danger from outside forces is still lurking in the background but it is not that obvious in this book. In this book, children seem to have no fear of Gideon’s dragon but are intrigued by it, especially Ciara, Bridget’s daughter. This books ties in with the previous books but is also a great stand alone book. This is a great read, it is well written, entertaining and draws you into the story. I would highly recommend it,as you will not be disappointed.

Eee!! I'm so excited that Ms. James brought the dragon shifters back. They were always the elusive group in her previous series so I was excited to see where she would take them this time. She didn't disappoint. I really dig this new dystopian, old-world feel she has going on this series. The whole juxtaposition in relationship to the descriptions of the world and it being set in the future in reference to time, really sets the series apart. Ms. James does a wonderful bringing her unique flavor of kink to this dark and dominate theme. Though each book, this one included, had an overbearing Alpha that enforces what would be considered dubcon upon the female, there is always HEA and genuine love in the book and between the characters. This story was another enjoyable read to add to the series of stand-alones

Loved this book...Loved Gideon..Loved Bridget! Gideon is a dragon shifter who has just woken up from a thousand year sleep. Upon traveling to his homeland in Cornwall, he smells and senses his mate and is determined to find her...once he checks on his stronghold and makes sure everything is ready in preparation of bringing his true heart back to his lands. Bridget is a wolf shifter and is feeling restless. After her mate, the alpha leader of Dundalk Castle, passed away..she is longer its mistress and wants to explore her own life and heart. She feels a strange pulling but can't quite figure it out. She will soon realize what the pull is when her fated mate/true heart finds her.
I loved the way Gideon was with Bridget..patient and loving but determined that she should keep herself out of trouble and harm. He didn't go all Alpha without good cause.

was not what I thought it would be .. this is for sure ... was first time reading this author
the main Characters are Gideon and Bridget....
Bridget is the widow of the former wolf alpha of Dundalk. He passed away in battle so ...She decides that she wants to be treated as equal to the males of the pack. "...but I think I'm done with having males decide my fate." She leaves and goes to find somewhere for women to live free. A lot of this stems from her belief that her objections to be mated to the alpha were overlooked and she was forced to comply. She loved him, but she wanted to be able to make her own decisions as well.
Then you have Gideon who is a overlord Dragon who has been awakened (altho never says why )
While Bridget travels she meets Gideon who was drawn to her. He starts the process for her to transform to a dragon without even telling her and he is not apologetic at all, in fact if ya want to be honest he is rather smug. There is conflict, but there is a HEA for our dragons.
Can't say I would probably read another,... but it was a good story

Delta has once more given us a fantastic book to dig into. Its hot and omg i thought these wolves have stamina but these dragons have much much more on them. Like the wolves though these dragons know how to treat and punish their mates as need be.
Gideon was the first tof the four dragons to wake, he wasnt sure why at first, but on heading home he smelled something sweet and knew his mate was around. Once home he got his affairs under way and went to hunt down his mate.
Bridget knew she had to go away for a few weeks, on her travels she comes across Gideon. He told her she was his mate but she didnt believe him. After one night of pure joy she heads out again, and when Gideon wakes up he will hunt her and make her his and she will also be punished .

This is a very interesting shifter story about dragons and wolves, let's not forget the humans. Gideon, the Lord of the Earth, dragon and shape shifter is awoken after a millennia of sleep. He is one of the last of his kind and smells his true heart or mate. However, Bridget is not so happy about succumbing to another mate who only wishes to discipline and dominate her as well as give her no freedom and use her for breeding. Let's just say this story does contain a lot of spanking. However, she also learns she cannot live without him. This is a very steamy, sexy story full of dominating alpha men. It's creative as far as the mating between dragon and his mate, changing her from a she-wolf to something better.

Holy cow! This is by far the most sensual of the books in this series. Bridget is as feisty as our heroines in the other three books. But she has a very calm presence about her. Once she accepts Gideon, then she doesn't know how to tell him about her daughter, Ciara. Gideon - OMG I'm in love with him! He's got his disciplinarian side, but seems a little softer, more willing to listen to Bridget than the wolf-shifters. And when he referred to Ciara as "our daughter"... my heart just melted. No spoilers in this review, but we're set up for another book - possibly forging an alliance between the wolves and dragons. And there are three more sleeping dragons...

Her Dragonlord...

Delta has added another twist to her warlord series and wow it’s just getting better and better...
Gideon has been asleep for a thousand and more years and after he’s woken he spies a battle going on and amongst the blood and gore he scents his true heart or fated mate...
Bridget is done being part of a pack and has set in motion a dream of starting a sanctuary for she wolves like the old Bae Diogal pack but instead finds herself taken, mated and turned from she wolf to dragon..
Like most of Deltas books there is non/consensual actions, spankings but for me this is just such a hot read and I just love reading her books.

Gideon is a dragon shifter and Lord of the Earth. He is the first of the four dragons to awake. While flying home he smells something sweet and new his mate was around.
Bridget is a wolf shifter, she is the widow to the former alpha of her wolf pack. Now that her mate has passed she is looking forward to finally being able to make her own choices in life. She dreams of starting a sanctuary for she wolves like the old Bae Diogal pack. But instead she finds herself yet again not having a choice and mated to an alpha dragonlord.
This was a well written story with great characters and an interesting storyline. There was adventure, romance and plenty of steam.
