Rate this book
Leadership is not defined by title, but by what you bring to everything you do. It's is about being the best version of yourself, motivating others and adding value to all around you. We can all be leaders. Can meditation help you become a more effective leader? Absolutely. Leading From Within: A Guide to Maximizing Your Effectiveness Through Meditation will show you how.The benefits of meditation have long been studied and supported by leading neurologists, who have demonstrated that regular meditation practice actually changes brain structure, verifying scientifically-reported cognitive and psychological benefits that go beyond relaxation. Meditation can make you aware of what is holding you back, reveal how to break your existing patterns, and remove your barriers to success. Leading From Within explores the wisdom of 13 business thought leaders. It identifies 13 universal traits of effective leaders that arise from those lessons and groups them into four foundational pillars: Awareness, Connection, Perspective and Potential. The traits are then paired with a variety of guided meditation techniques you can utilize to develop your leadership skills. Leading From Within offers you the tools to establish your own practice. Explore a myriad of meditation techniques to develop leadership traits and support the pillar that will best serve you right now. Meditation will teach you to observe the present with full attention, without judgment, and to connect with your inner wisdom. Once you've mastered the tools, you'll be able to improve your professional life in ways you cannot predict. Enjoy increased focus, reduced stress, unleashed creativity, better relationships, clearer decision making, and an awakening to opportunities. A daily meditation practice is training for your mind as physical exercise is training for your body. If becoming a more effective leader is your will, meditation can be your way. An excellent book. I met the author on a yoga trip to Peru and found his approach to meditation helpful because he linked it to things I was familiar with in the business world. Reading his book was very worthwhile because he discussed many different meditation techniques that I was unfamiliar with, which helped me further my knowledge of this new and exciting subject. The advise he gives in business is insightful too. Thankfully, the organization (PwC) I worked at for 35 years forced me to achieve many of Steve’s helpful suggestions as a matter of simple survival. He makes the case at the end of the book for each of us to mediate each day for 10 minutes, which thankfully, I have been doing now for about a month. A fine suggestion indeed.

This book also has many helpful suggests for readings to further ones knowledge. I took his suggestion in one case, and am reading The Wisdom of Yoga, by Stephen Cope.
