A possible contender for the worst textbook published by the NCERT. Couldn't read entirely.
There hasn't been a single book published by NCERT that has caused me as much frustration as this moronic book. If you have purchased it already, I would advice you to gift it to your worst enemy at the earliest.
The greatest issue with this book is its treatment and structuring of the information. Information is provided without sufficient explanation of its significance and every sentence makes you wonder about the information that has been excluded from the sentence.
If this book were attempting to explain mammals, it would go something like this "Mammals are a classification of animals that give birth to live babies, as opposed to eggs. Platypus is a mammal that lays eggs. Dogs are an example of mammals". This will most likely be a followed by a table listing the different kinds of spiders.
Just read Go Che Leong. It is longer and since it is an American book, you will have to keep converting the units into the metric system, but it will still be easier to read through than this mess.
I am quite fond of NCERTs books. On account of being written by a panel of experts (as opposed to a couple of individuals), their books are of considerable authoritative value. Additionally, the writing is generally quite lucid.
Unfortunately, this book doesn't live up the standards set by NCERT.
Excellent book to start and understand geography. Basics of all the topics are covered. If you want to cover geography then this book along with other NCERT is best to start with. This can be a base on which other value addition can be done.
