Reborn #2

Soaring in Flames

Rate this book
My father is back from the dead. He won't leave town without me and no one can figure out why. Is it because of what I am? Does he want to use me as part of his religious cult? My mates are furious and I can't help but feel like I have brought this trouble on them. The supernatural community is upset by the light I've brought on them with the rightful murder of my mother and Jed. My classmates have been swayed by the cruel rumors that my bully has put out. Worst of all? The boys keep saying I can shift but I have had no luck. And what is this about a possibly mating heat? I don't miss the basement but it sure as heck was less complicated than this.

This is a slow/medium burn fantasy RH that features a naive but strong MFC with a troubled past and a secret about what she really is. Come meet Maya and her protective and possessive dragon shifters!

Warnings: Please be advised that the book contains darker themes such as child abuse, PTSD, swearing, and violence. Additionally, sexual themes are suitable for mature audiences +18.

A good story

This one is going to be hard to rate. I love the whole storyline, I love maya, I love her dragons! What I didn't like was all the useless stuff, and I found too much of that said useless stuff. The interview, useless, the FBI thing, useless, the vogue thing, useless, " jordan pov meeting her mate" come on, useless! I can go on, but there was a lot of just added on stuff that really didn't matter in this read, and the weird part is there is such a story here that the author does not need to add the whole kitchen sink to make us love a book that's already good, and please this book took so long to come out, I hope to the heavens she doesn't start writing jordans story until this one is actually finished, that is like my biggest author pet pev. I will definitely continue on, hopefully something in the works soon seeing as I had to actually re-read the first one to familiarize myself once again with what happened in the first book just to be able to go on to the second.

Soaring in Flames is the second installment in the Reborn series. For the first quarter, not a lot actually happened. It kind of felt like things were dragging and I definitely found myself zoning in and out of the book. I just kept wishing something would happen that would hold my attention or I would actually end up DNF-ing my first book ever.

Luckily, for me and I guess this book, things eventually picked up. Of course things didn't really capture my attention until a quarter near the end of the book. I'm honestly kind of annoyed I had to wait so long for something like that to happen but I guess wine can help any kind of book. Right?

Other than that, I'm still not a fan of Maya. She annoyed me so much in the first book but now she just seems super needy/clingy which makes me cringe so much. I mean it doesn't help that the guys she is with sort of encourage it in how they treat her during situations. If I could line them all up in a straight line and slap them - I totally would. Maybe then they would realize that they need to do better and be better.

Please, oh please, don't annoy me in the next one. I'm begging you.

Finished this one a few days ago, and when I went to download what I thought was the third and final book from KU I found that this is actually not a trilogy. It is in fact at least a four book series where the fourth book comes out 9/21. I'm a little upset GR is a freaking liar because I would've waited to start this series. I'm not one for cliffhangers for unfinished series.

Anywho, this book had be from the start. The series had me from the start really. I really liked the characters and even though the heroine is kind of naïve, I was loving it. I started getting a little bored with this one though, to be honest. It seems that the book was more about the characters learning about one another and not so much the actual story line. Which really is fine. But I wanted some more action or plot really.

I'm so happy this book didn't end on a cliffhanger because I won't be reading the next ones for a few months. :)

3-3.5 stars. Things are really heating up here in book 2.. while our FMC stays kind of on the naive/dumb side. Yea I was hoping that our FMC over time would claw herself out of that but she seems to be more of a stage 5 clinger when it comes to getting things together to better prep herself for what is going on.. Of course the guys are absolutely no help, wanting to shove her away in a tower and then only bring her out like arm candy.. Other than this aspect things were going great... and then bam right at the end we cut away to Jordyn's perspective, like out of nowhere. While I super like Jordyn.. I don't feel like she has even made enough of an appearance in the story to get her own interlude at this point.. also I felt like this was a stall tactic like the author didn't want to quite get to the next bit in Maya's story so she went down a rabbit hole trying to distract me. I will say, I really like Jordyn and love that stuff is happening in her life.. but dang give her a spinoff and keep to the scheduled programming here.

While there were some really important things happening in this book, like our first shift etc. I feel like this book was really toeing the line of "middle book syndrome" just due to the amount of focus that was put on things that didn't really seem that important. Maya is growing even more close to the guys.. some of them extra extra close.. ahem, but I've got some theories on where this is headed but I feel like the author just isn't getting there. Unfortunately for me we will have to wait for book 3 to see if any of my theories come to fruition.. maybe some lost princess? We will see.

That's a DNF right here. Let me get this straight. This is a series of shifters where the fmc is a phoenix but instead of adventuring on that we will be focusing on birthdays and cats and a fmc that is basically a child born yesturday that knows nothing and everything (really there is no margins here).

Suspend disbelief and it is an enjoyable read. Now to wait for the other book.

I've re-read from book 1 as it was such a long time since I first read.

I’m loving this series! I really like Maya’s character, and of course I love how this author writes her guys. They’re all crazy for their girl and protective to the core.

There wasn’t total balance between the amount of interactions Maya had with each of her guys, but I’m assuming some of them are to come in future books. I’m super excited to see them all travel to the dragon realm, and for the theories I’m conjuring to come to light.

I will say, I didn’t totally understand the Jordan POV scene, it seemed really out of the blue and took me from the intensity of what was going on with Father Malcolm and Lorn. I would’ve preferred to see them torturing them instead lol.

Maya and her guys are settling into their life together. Things start heating up... I like that the guys are completely devoted to her and so protective. Maya is starting to become more confident, and I like when she called the guys out on being too overprotective- although she does let it go pretty quickly. I’m hooked on this series and can’t wait to see what happens when they go to Dreki- although I do have a few theories :)

This book was awesome. And has to be one of my favourites from Sinclair so far. The story grabs you from the start and you wont be able to put it down once you start reading.
I love the MFC she is innocent and I love the way her mind works.
This series is a must read and you will not be disappointed.
Cant wait for the next one

Short but sweet review!

I'm so invested into this book series, although this book had some slow moments, I found myself pushing through them quickly that I get excited all over again just as quickly, that it didn't aggravate me to badly. Giving some serious love and shout out for the MFC and her alpha males..😍😍

So off I go to book 3... Bye for now! ✌👋

While a couple threats were eliminated in Reborn in Flames, one that she thought was out of the picture has come back to haunt her and even more are on the horizon. I enjoyed the next steps for Maya and her flight, especially uncovering the type of shifter Maya is! This is where the history of the magical world comes more into play and Maya learns both about that but also more about her mates. This book also introduced a feline sidekick, of which I have high hopes. Her mates are all perfect and I honestly don't know if I could pick a favorite! There is essentially no cliffhanger on this book, other than the need to know what happens next to Maya and her mates!

I love this author. I really.do however, I think where this book Is concerned, someone glossed over the grammar errors...a lot. Oh well. Not my problem.

Also, and this Is just what I am gathering from info from the book but, first I think the queens baby didn't die, and send nd I think Maya is the next.blue phoenix.

But hey, what do I know...

I loved this book, I really did. I just feel like it needed a little more to it. I felt like it was not long enough at all. But absolutely loved it. I cannot wait to read the next one... To see what M. Sinclair will make of the story...

DNF. The naive girl bit was fine in the first book because of how she grew up, but the way the guys interact with her is so cringy. I don't know if it's worse in this book than the first or if I just noticed now, but it seems like they see her as if she's a child, like 12 years old. In the first book, I was only bothered by the age difference with Marco (24 to her naive 17) but in this book, all the guys seemed to treat her as if she's 12. Even their terms of endearment is as if they're her dad rather than partners: sweety, darling, honey, etc.

My #1 issue with this sequel is that I think there are a lot of detours that we didn't necessarily need to take. It felt like there were moments added that took us away from the main storyline- some were useful for character or relationship development, but others I couldn't see the sense in. To me, it felt like they were putting off our arrival at the ending, and I would have much preferred the ending be extended a few chapters rather than some of the side trips because I think that would have more directly benefitted the story.

The end twist was something that I guessed pretty much the moment the background knowledge was given to us. Do I find that a big detractor? Not really. A lot of these RH books have FMCs that are special in some extra way- usually, that lends itself to why they need a harem and/or need certain types of men in their harem. So, the twist wasn't really ruined, but I am thinking that it's pretty predictable for the subgenre.

As far as the relationships go, the dynamics are fine- it's not my most aw-worthy group, nor is it the most cringe-worthy. I think there needs to be more about Maya getting caught up to the rest of the world. There are some good moments where she starts to think about herself as a person and who she is independent from the guys, but those are rare, and I'm really hoping book three extends on them.

Overall, I'm reading the series on KU, so it's not the end of the world to me that I wasn't WOW-ed, but purchasers may have a different feeling on it. For me, I might not have been riveted to every page, but there were enough interesting moments that I'd get book three on KU when it comes out. A lot of the detractors that I see in this book are ones I've seen in other books by this author, so I think it might be a difference between her style and my preferences, and that might be something I just have to reconcile with.

A little better

This book was slightly better than the first book. Maya seems to be adapting and changing. She is still weak and vulnerable though. That weakness makes her completely dependent on the guys. I prefer a main character with at least verbal fighting skills. One that tries to defend herself even if she loses. The guys still "protect" her from everything and everyone. She's like an obedient little kid following all the instructions given to her...and no, her one little argument isn't enough to defend her complicity.

My question is, why is Lorcan so obsessed with Maya? That whole little situation is inexplicable to me. I don't get why he keeps causing problems. I also don't get the girls at the school fighting with her. This series just has some unnecessary drama in it.

Another thing I will note is that for some reason the author gave us Jordan and Marcello's story from their viewpoint. That's a little odd because they really aren't who the story is about and their viewpoint being thrown in was random. Why? Even if there were to be a spin-off series about them, it's weird for their viewpoint and story to randomly be thrown into book 2. I feel like the author is all over the place.

Finally, I feel like Marco and Henry control all Maya's attention. Yes, she talks to the others and occasionally kisses them, but I feel like the other harem guys are being excluded. No, naivety is not a good enough excuse. Maybe Marco and Henry are more demanding, but Maya has time with the others and hasn't even marked them yet. I don't understand why she hasn't at least marked them. Maybe it's supposed to add to the drama, but all it does is irritate me when Marco or Henry are with her because nobody else is getting the opportunity to do more than hug or kiss her.

Soaring in Flames was somewhat unbalanced, I mean there is stuff happening yet it's not anything that counts towards the actual plot and what does count is given in a very stingy manner for a second book.

I was ready for some mushy romance without expectations of a plot heavy book BUT this book almost feels even less focused on the plot than the first book if that's possible. I felt like there was an underlying contact to the plot in most of the things that happened in the first book but here it's just too many non active scenes that don't serve much purpose in the grand scheme of things. The evil dude has no chance to be developed after using him as a cliffhanger in the first book, it wouldn't have hurt to see more scenes between him and Maya rather than just that one climax confrontation.

There are many guys in the harem and we barely grazed some of their history, it would have been better to see more space for this than some of the fluff that got unnecessary attention. As characters, there is an effort to show growth with Maya and her PTSD but it's still shallow. The romance between them is consistent with what's seen in the first book so yes gaga to the extreme.

It's not hard to guess where the series is heading and Maya is gonna be extra snowflakey in the next one but I'm still not bored enough to quit this.

Not sure on my rating yet. I did like it.

It's almost as if book 1 and 2 were one book initially that was pulled apart at odd places.

We are now given background history on the dragon world & the men. It was told as a info dump.

Other Details were repeated as if the reader never knew them.

There were some slow spots. Example to show us Maya's powers. Details to set the scene at the the meeting were boring.

I love the men & Maya. Love their interactions. Interesting twist with her father.

I have little interest in the spin-off story that will involve the side character that was set up in this story. I would probably like the men but I'm not into semi sarcastic females who like cuss.

Frustrating

It was hard for me to finish this. Never have I thought that the tattoo that post Malone sports “always tired” would be so fitting on another being. The female lead should have this tattoo as 75% of the book was about her being tired and sleepy and always falling asleep. Gracious day how many hours does she sleep? I can’t. I also can’t with the lack of steam... she finally consummates her relationship with Marco.... after getting 75% through this book (book is near ending) and she finally gets with her one out of how ever many mates she has. I just can’t. At this point I’m only reading bc I’m bored and don’t have a long to be read list.

I could barely finish. The book doesnt do a good job tying stuff up. It kind of wanders unnecessarily. It's in need of an editor.
But really..what bugged me was the inconsistencies with Maya. She is ignorant about some things but apparently knows others somehow. She acts like a child 90% of the time and the guys think it's hot and want to be with her. IT CREEPS ME OUT. SHE IS ACTING LIKE A CHILD AND IT TURNS YOU ON?! Biggest pet peeve about the book to be honest. I get that she was sheltered and knows nothing. I get that she is their fated mate. But still super weird.

I fell in love with book 1 and book 2 was still entertaining but I didn't enjoy it as much. It felt like 70% was running in place; it wasn't exactly filler, but it didn't feel like any new progress with things. Most of it felt like regurgitation of how everyone felt about each other and how 'perfect' she was. It didn't get annoying *yet* but I think if this pace continues in the 3rd book, it is going to end up being a dropped series.

This one was not great. Most of the chapters were seemingly useless. They didn't add anything to the story or development of the characters. In fact, I think it took away from it.

And the biggest curve ball that was just thrown in there so casually I had to re-read it was Croy and Henry kissing? Huh. And Croy making a statement about how Maya is ok with it. Like where the hell did that come from. It was left field.

2⭐️ I will not continue this series

I’m so bummed. The plot sounded really fun and the spice was entertaining (when it did happen), but I can’t force myself to continue this series. I skimmed over so much right from the beginning. There was so much repetitive writing and unnecessary focus on mundane details that I just can’t bring myself to waste my time with this series to find out what happens… ☹️
