Nicole Fitzhenry-Dawes-Cavanaugh thinks she’s worked her last case before her baby is born…
Right up until a man covered in blood walks into her law firm.
He claims he doesn’t know how the blood got there or who it belongs to. He’s desperate for Nicole’s help.
But with her license still under probation and her baby due soon, Nicole’s not sure how much she’s willing to risk, especially when his case looks like it could put more than her own life in danger.
Stumped is the final book in Emily James’ Maple Syrup Mysteries. If you love small-town settings, quirky characters, and twisty plots, then you’ll want to buy this amateur sleuth mystery series today!
Although I love this series, I was a bit let down by this final book. A lot of the characters that are prevalent in the previous books were mostly missing in this book. Also, their was way too much inner dialogue from the main character and not enough interplay with other characters, and not enough action or plot development for me. However, the rest of the maple syrup mysteries are definitely worth reading.
I have enjoyed everyone of Emily James’s books in this series as well as the cupcake series . I look forward to continue reading the books she writes. I love the way her characters come alive and how they seem to be real. I love the suspense and plot twist. Emily James is a very talented writer and I strongly recommend this book as well as all her books. You won’t be disappointed.
I have enjoyed every one of the books in this series, and couldn't imagine how the series could possibly end after this book. But, Emily did end it perfectly. Can't give anything away...you really need to read ALL of the books in "The Maple Syrup Mysteries " series.
You fall in love with Nicki and Mark and seeing their relationship deepen. This was the end of the series and I will miss them but I think Nicki did the right thing.
Another great story! The plot had just enough twists and turns to keep me guessing until the end. I love all the characters, both old and new. I can't wait to start this author's new series! I hope there are more of this series in the future!
Nichol is smart, funny, intuitive and just vulnerable enough to be believable on multiple levels. She has been enveloped into the "family" in Fairhaven community with fierce love & support that anyone would envy.
She left high-pressure city life behind and is now part-owner of a maple syrup farm in Michigan and a partner in a small-town law firm. She’s also a wife and expectant mother—and an amateur sleuth with a knack for digging out the truth.
There weren’t supposed to be any new cases for Nicole Fitzhenry-Dawes-Cavanagh to tackle before her baby’s birth. But when a man shows up at her office covered in blood, with no idea what happened, she knows he’s going to need a defense attorney.
Nicole only represents innocent clients. How can she be sure he’s telling the truth?
And how did we get to 13 books in the Maple Syrup Mysteries series? I’ve enjoyed them all.
This series is written for a mainstream audience. As such, although Nicole and her husband are Christians there’s not an overt faith thread. In this novel, I appreciated watching her wrestle with one of the murder suspects being a priest.
She can’t dismiss the possibility of his guilt, but she doesn’t want to be one of those people who look at church scandals and automatically assume the worst. Because of her faith—and her experience with believers who sometimes do wrong but who often are simply misunderstood—she’s glad to be the one pursuing this investigation because she can approach it with more sensitivity.
Stumped is a strong ending to an engaging series. The Maple Syrup Mysteries are cleverly plotted, the characters have depth, and there’s enough quirky humour to make me smile.
I’d encourage anyone new to the series to start at the beginning and follow the characters and their relationships. You can get a free ebook copy of the prequel, Sapped, at the author’s website by signing up for her newsletter. Here’s the link: authoremilyjames.com/book/sapped.
Emily James is also the author of the Cupcake Truck Mysteries and the Cat and Mouse Whodunits. There’s at least one other author with the same name, so to see more about this Emily James and her work, it’s best to visit her website at authoremilyjames.com.
