Another beautiful installment in the series. I'm utterly impressed by the artwork and the relationship between Somali and her dad. Those last moments/panels made me extremely nervous and I'm hoping for the best for our dynamic duo!

Somali and the golem end up in a witch village.

We get to meet a bunch of interesting witches and hear a story about another golem. Also, while looking for a book on a human they come across fish that eat books.

There's one giant fish that appears ...

And it scares Somali ...

omg look at her poor face 😢

I already love this series 💗

Awww! I love this story. :")
A very wholesome and heartbreaking tale of a father-daughter journey, but not quite.
It's also reminding me a lot of "A wild robot".
Also the art is gorgeous!

3.5 rounded up to 4 stars.
The second book focuses on the history of human-creature relationships through the lens of an ancient story. Whilst the illustrations were great, the pacing was odd, and some panels seemed to be missing. I am never too fond of side characters and this book was focused on that.

Another Adorable Entry

This is a great sequel. I was surprised at how closely the anime adapted the manga. Somali remains adorable, and the Art is as beautiful as ever. You'll have fun with this one.

Manga | Fantasy | Slice of Life

Somali and the Forest Spirit, Vol. 2 continues the journey between Somali and the Golem as they travel through a world where humans are still in danger of being hunted. In this volume, they encounter book witches to learn about human history. As always, the Golem remains deeply protective of Somali, constantly focused on how to keep her safe as their journey progresses.

One of the most major parts of this volume is the Golem learning about another guardian like himself, one who once protected a small witch girl rather than a human child. This parallel to his own situation shares the story’s themes of duty, care, and what it means to protect someone despite claiming to lack emotions. The humans in the small witch story were violent and misunderstanding to other beings.

The volume ends on an cliffhanger involving a friend Somali has made, who tells her about the Yozame flowers, flowers said to grant a wish. Somali hopes they might help her avoid being separated from her “dad,” the Golem, at the end of their journey. This lingering hope adds a bittersweet tension to the story and reinforces the emotional bond at the heart of the series.

Adorable!

It just keeps getting better and better. The mix of cultures and folklore is incredible. I love seeing how each species interacts and works in their own societies. Somari is adorable and I love her with her found father! I wish they could be with each other forever 😭
