Mostly My Girlfriend

Rate this book
A friends to lover boss/secretary story...continued.

Julia

He’s not my boss anymore but nothing has changed. After one hour of therapy we’re more broken than when we started. I kept a secret from him. A big one.

Twelve years of lies and half-truths, of telling each other only what we think and never what we feel.

I love him, but I don’t know if can do this anymore.

Because he treats me as if I’m mostly his girlfriend.

And I want the real thing.

I was going to give this 3 stars because I liked Book 1 a little better (guess I'm sucker for college romances after all), but the end put a smile to my face {which most books don't do}, so 4 stars it is.

It was kind of sad how their relationship became so toxic because they were afraid to "ruin the friendship". I'm so glad they finally did and were brave enough. It's crazy how it took twelve years for them to come together like that.

Okay, so I had posted all these cute quotes, but then I lost Internet, so they all got deleted :/
I'm too lazy to readd them now. Just take my word that they were cute.

Just as many emotions as the first book and it sucks you in just as bad. I loved that these were a quick read and will both be released at the same time. No having to wait to read what happens. To say Ethan and Julia are frustrating is an understatement. They suck at communicating how they feel and both have more than friends feelings for each other. Ms. Doyle does an excellent job of taking you on their emotional journey and making you feel it all right along with them. I only wish we got more of their story once they finally admitted their feelings for each other. But I was still all 😁😍 at the end..

I received an advanced copy from the author in exchange for my honest opinion.

This continuation of Ethan and Julia's lifelong relationship has more secrets and surprises in store as S. Doyle guides us through more therapy sessions and the slim hope they can finally see eye to eye and realize just how much they mean to one another. I didn't want to give up on them but boy they don't make it easy! And yet I really like both Ethan and Julia and really do love that they are more than imperfectly perfect together even when they can't see it themselves.

Ethan is fighting with all he has as feelings are bared with a raw intensity that floors him over and over again. But the way he adores his Jules could be felt despite all the steps backward these two take as their souls are exposed and the path to forgiveness is finally within their grasp.

But Doyle continues to keep us a bit frustrated as Ethan and Julia do not make it easy on both themselves and us as their story takes more than a few twists and turns and we're left wondering if any of it was worth it.

This crazy, wild ride that is Ethan and Julia is worth all the stops and starts and I am happy to report that if you just hang on through all the ups and downs, you'll be very satisfied as you read the last words.

I truly do enjoy Doyle's storytelling and although Mostly My Girlfriend, together with Mostly My Boss is a bit disheartening at times, it's a really great look at the joys and heartache associated with matters of the heart and I wouldn't have missed any of it for the world.

4 solid stars!

Ethan and Julia have been best friends and worked together for 12 years but we soon realize how little they know about each other feelings. Both have their reasons for wanting to keep their relationship as it is but there are also reasons why status quo is no longer enough.

It will take a lot of soul-searching of what they truly want and reflection on their past on both their parts to decide if they are meant to go their separate ways or embrace what they could have together if they are willing to open their hearts and minds.

Full of emotion I enjoyed watching Ethan and Julia unravel the misunderstandings and pain of their past.

Whew! What a story! Getting my emotions back in order. I’ll be back with my review

I was excited to get back to Ethan and Julia's relationship. I liked the ease they had with each other (as much as they would allow themselves) and even though they had never dated, I liked Ethan's protectiveness/jealousy over Julia. However, they never admitted feelings to each other. I enjoyed how these two dove in even further thanks to therapy and it helped the reader understand them better.

Too much angst; should have been one book

This book, the second in S. Doyle's Mostly My Boss series, brought the HEA to the series. While the 2 books cover a significant amount of time, they easily could have cut out some of the delay in gratification and angst and made one book, slightly longer than the first Mostly My Boss series. I think the period of time would be covered sufficiently as well as the connection of Julia and Ethan's families. A few more details about how Ethan "the visionary" manages to revolutionize the health care industry with software and profitably venture into international high speed jet plans and Julia's role in the management and finances of the company would ground the series in as good way. Some of the angst is appropriate because of the young age the characters meet, their own psychic wounds sand trauma, and Ethan's psychological challenges, perceived or real, the characters maturation helps bring them together despite some definite juvenile behaviors on both their parts. I liked the idea of the counseling set up with Julia and Ethan in therapy as way to heal their relationship, which they struggle to define, but believe it would likely take more we than 2 sessions with a couples therapist to reconcile their issues and relationship.

Read this if you're hesitating on reading book 1 & 2

Reading other people reviews I honestly almost didn't give it a chance. I went back and forth several times. So I tried the sample ... and it hooked me. It's not a typical billionaire book. I love that it goes back and forth in perspective between the characters. There are time jumps but they make sense, it's fluid, you know exactly the when & why you're getting it and it was always kept me in the the story wanting more. The story interesting, fun, heartbreaking, sexy, funny and so much more. I've known several extremely intelligent people and I was able to understand his weirdness. Of course it was infuriating or heartbreaking at times but that's life. Real life. Its not always beautiful. Sometimes we're too stupid or stubborn for our own good and we let things go for too long. I wish the story was longer honestly and I saw more of what happened next. I won't say any details bc I don't want to ruin it ... but try the sample. I think you'll be surprised to love it. Like I did. Won't say it's my favorite if all time but I really loved it. I might even read it again.

Mostly My Girlfriend -- If you loved Josh and Donna on West Wing, this couple really does have their vibe. Though to be fair, I don't think Josh was ever quite as idiotic as Ethan. This is a fabulous ending to a really great serial novel. Carol the Therapist deserves every penny of her fee after the roller coaster of Jules and Ethan. Happy Reading!

A surprisingly good free romance novel on Kindle Unlimited. I liked how Doyle explored Jules and Ethan's past through couple's therapy, and I found the multiple timelines easy to follow. The ending did seem a little rushed, especially since Jules and Ethan spent so little of the book as an actual couple.

I would recommend this book to fans of contemporary romance.

I loved them

This story shredded me and everything about this damaged couple made me love them so much. I have to say, I absolutely hate that this was broken into two books. Why can’t it be 1 book? Nothin bugs me more than a cliffhanger when it’s completely unnecessary. Thank God it ended here or I would have flipped out and walked away for good.

Emotional Rollercoaster

Denial is the name of the game. Julia and Ethan do nothing but deny they love each other and take you on this therapy rollercoaster to figure out exactly what dummies they have been. I know I have been on this road of denial before but it didn't take me twelve years to figure myself out! Good book keeping you on your toes until the end.

Loved this two book story

Great books. Well written and would recommend.

I don't generally do book revues as I'm reading 2/3 books a day ATM. So if I'm giving it any revue at all then IMHO it's worth a read

Book 2 - Ethan and Julia

Well, I loved the conclusion. Ethan and Julia's struggles are real. They are both broken, scared, dépendant on each other and it takes therapy for them to finally admit their truths. Loved it

I got this book on kindle Unlimited and it is the second of the series. Loved the first book, but this one dragged for me.

This was an interesting look at a couple working it out. The flashbacks worked well to move the story forward

Fun read, at times it was hilarious. This part two of Ethan and Julia and their friendship and being in love but afraid to act on it.

Dysfunctional

I missed the author’s warning that the main characters will be frustrating, so that’s on me. But too many things frustrated me to enjoy this book.

Spoilers:

Ethan kept sleeping with random women even after he knew that he loved Julia, excusing it by saying that it didn’t mean anything because it’s just physical. He kept interfering with Julia getting into a relationship because he thought that was a truer betrayal. This is a hard no for me. He put his needs first and used her.

Julia was a bit of a doormat. She would try to stand up for herself, but as soon as her mother or Ethan’s parents held her responsible for his happiness she submitted to that without any argument. She let Ethan use her to compensate for his weaknesses and took way too long to tell him that be hurt her. This is also a hard no for me. She was too much of a martyr, taking responsibility for making other people happy at her own emotional health.

They had an unhealthy codependency until the end. I wasn’t expecting to read a second volume but didn’t mind at first because I borrowed this from kindle unlimited. I don’t think the description for the Mostly My Boss wasn’t clear that it was part 1.. Ethan’s groveling kept me reading, plus the writing is compelling. But now I resent that there wasn’t much growth in the characters for a 2 volume book. It was more like, hey you’re codependent so it must be love. I still thought they were a train wreck in the end.

I was so excited to get Mostly My Girlfriend so quickly. I had just finished Mostly My Boss a few days earlier and was Jonesing for more of Ethan and Jules' story. Doyle always creates great characters with so much depth that even they can't figure themselves out. She's done a superb job with Ethan and Jules. The genius rich kid and brainy scholarship small-town girl seem like an odd pair but they're perfectly suited to be the center of each other's orbits. I wanted to shake them both hard until they'd get over all their crap! They're so in love and the last to realize it. For twelve years we watch these two going back and forth unintentionally hurting each other, pulling away at the wrong times, just generally making their lives into huge messes while being the very glue that keeps the other sane.

The resolution of their story was every bit as gut-wrenching and tear-jerking as the first installment.
I read it straight through because I wouldn't put it down. Brava Ms. Doyle!

Mostly My Girlfriend
***I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy.***
Wow, this book continues with the emotional love turmoil. So Ethan convinces Julia to do one more therapy session. Geez, it get s more intense. I feel like this is more from Ethans standpoint because he is finally admitting to his feelings for Julia. Goodness gracious, I think Julia tries to make up excuses for herself to believe that they could never be a couple. She does sit through the session and take it all in. The pain they put each other through is crazy but they managed to make their professional life work. There is more admissions from Ethan that brings a lot to light for Julia. Is Ethan really trying to make up for his mistakes? Does Julia dismiss some of the things he says and does? I loved how this book kept me reading til the end. It was a year jerker for sure.

What a journey!

Goodness, Ethan and Julia have had quite the journey! I enjoyed the reminiscing of their past and seeing how they have always been there for each other through everything. They truly are best friends. Seeing them delve into their feelings and come to terms with everything is emotional. They’ve been through so much together. I felt as though some of the really important moments needed a little more so you could feel the excitement that should have been. I also would have liked to have seen more of them together once they were both finally on the same page. It was great to watch Ethan and Julia grow both individually and together. These two are meant for each other and I enjoyed them and their journey, a passionate journey filled with love.

This book was as captivating as the first with Ethan and Julia still hurting each other and themselves because even though they are best friends, they don't know how to communicate properly. My only complaint with this book was that once they finally worked out their drama, there wasn't enough of their story from that point on. I would have liked a bit more feel good factor having been invested in their lives.

What a great story. This is the conclusion to Ethan’s and Julia’s ( Jules’) story. They were so close, but can they have an actual relationship? He fights to prove they are on a relationship and she still argues he’s just been her boss. Can she believe he really loves her? I felt for them as she’s trying to quit them, will they resolve their issues? Will they quit hurting each other? It’s obvious they are meant for each other, and I loved the ending. I highly recommend this book.

This is an easy and short read.

Although it is short, the characters are developed fully which makes the book so enjoyable.

Both Ethan and Julia are so adorable together. Crazy how they wasted 12years and lived with the attraction and sexual tension between them.

The ending is perfect, doesn't feel forced at all.

Loved the tension draw out between the 2. Happy to see they stuck it out and ended up marrying and the baby news was the icing on the cake. Please write another book about those 2 characters. Love it if they had twins and their mom's get new husbands

My Boss/My Girlfriend

From the beginning I wanted to strangle these two frustrating characters. As soon as they met I knew they would lead me on an incredible journey of laughter, angst, turmoil and love. Well written humor with plenty of snark. Another HEA (finally)...

Drama, Drama, Drama with these two...and I'm here for it. So much lack of communication between them it was frustrating but so good when they finally saw the light and love for each other. So much better the second time I read it. I love these characters.
