Rate this book
Ahlayna had one plan for spring break, and that was to read. But when her best friend, Tatiana Wolfe, offers an alternative to her plans, Ahlayna knows that she’s entered a realm laced with danger. From the moment she entered Ty’s space she knew that she had to run. Run as far away from him as possible. Ty, better known as Wolf, has three his sister is off-limits, anyone associated with his sister is off-limits, and always protect the ones he loved. He managed to balance all three while running and ruling the streets of Dade County with a mean fury. He can have whatever woman he wanted when he wanted. That was until he laid his eyes on Ahlayna. She was forbidden fruit, but like a moth to a flame, he couldn’t stay away from her. Ahlayna has the power to tame the beast that lives inside of Ty. Growing closer to Ty is an ever-present danger. Once danger puts her in its sight, Ahlayna could either run from Ty or run towards him. Ty has declared that he will chase her to the ends of the earth, but their fate lies in the ashes of the aftermath of a tragic event. Will Ahlayna relish in the love she’s found, or will she run as far as she can?

All Ahlayna wanted was to be a normal college student. She got good grades, stayed in her bubble and stayed out the way! Outside of her best friend Tati, she was content with being a loner because that’s where she found the most peace. It had always been just her and her father after losing her mother when she was only 3 weeks old so she was used to her solitude.

Spring break is upon them and Tati convinces her 23yo bff to live a little and come hang with her at a party her brother was hosting! When Ty set his eyes on Ahlayna, he wanted her bad! Her eyes held his soul captive and he didn’t want it back. Ty didn’t make it a habit of getting involved with his sisters friends but there was something about Layna he couldn’t resist. Ahlayna didn’t want to get involved with Ty because he was the head of his family’s narcotics business and reminded her of her father who was the largest arms dealer in the country. Being associated with two of the biggest names in the illegal underworld worked against Ahlayna and now she’s questioning everything she was confident in.

It’s always a gamble reading older work from authors you enjoy. It’s clear that AP today has grown leaps and bounds from AP 4 years ago. While I enjoyed the storyline, it read as a beginners novel. It was predictable and certain scenes lacked transition. The only reason I picked this book up was because she highlighted in on her IG stories. I have no issue with authors promoting older work but I think it should be done once it’s revised or edited a second time to ensure it’s up to the level their current work is at. Overall this was a 3.5 and because I admire AP I rounded up. I’m not NOT recommending it but there’s no need to break your neck to read this book.

Soooo Good

OMG This book was so good. Ty the protector. Him and ALayna are made for each other. Tati is a true friend. Glad her and Sotty relationship is out in the open. Ty would do anything for ALayna. I finished this book in two hours. Are we going to get a story on Tati and Sotty? Would love a wedding story on Ty and ALayna💙💙💙

Great read!

Another masterpiece. Layna was such a sweet girl. Tati was a great friend to her and just what she needed to burst out her bubble. I love the way Ty and Layna came to be together.

I liked the story, I liked the characters and their relationships - could have rated this higher based on this alone. However, the editing and proofreading left a lot to be desired, making it a struggle to follow at times. Splitting the difference by rounding up to 3 stars.

Ty (H) runs the narco trade in Miami, the big Wolf in the city. He takes his job seriously, and he takes his family seriously. His sister and her friends are to be protected, to stay off-limits. Until he meets his sister's best friend Ahlayna (h). They can't avoid the other's pull, but her secret family history and his tumultuous past and dangerous business dealings could pose threats to their chances of a future together.

I liked most of the characters. None were really developed in depth, but they were still enjoyable. Overall, just a warm feeling between everyone - especially for a gang/criminal sort of story. The Wolfpack bantered well, and I especially liked Tati and Ahlayna and their friendship. Yay for strong girl friendships without being either the stereotypical "polar opposite BFFs" or "personality clone BFFs." Always refreshing. I liked seeing Shotty and Tati able to take their relationship public, and I can see them carrying a book themselves. And Black seems like a fun character who deserves an HEA himself. Shante made for a pretty stereotypical high-drama OW, but I liked Tati stepping up in regards to that. I just wish we'd seen a little more closure with her (and with Diego too, come to think of it). Like I said though, while they weren't particularly deep, and in truth were a touch stereotypical, they were still an enjoyable bunch.

But as much as I liked getting a variety of POVs, the POV was inconsistent. It's actually one of my pet peeves. If a section/chapter is labeled as a certain character's view, then it should stay in their view. We shouldn't be getting sentences (or even whole paragraphs) with another character's thoughts. I mean, if Ahlayna is narrating the encounter, even if it's 3rd person and not directly in her thoughts, it's just jarring if we get a few sentences of Ty's thoughts on his attraction to her. She doesn't know what he thinks, so how could he comment on it? Same when Ty's chapters have thoughts from Shotty about the secret relationship with Tati. Ty doesn't know about the relationship, so how could he know about Shotty's worries? It might be just a pet peeve of mine, but it is what it is, and it was fairly frequent here.

Continuity errors. Mostly minor, but one was jarring no matter which way you follow it. Ahlayna and Tati are described as both juniors and seniors, but it turns out that I think they're juniors? At least the epilogue is a year later and is at their graduation. So, we'll say juniors-ish. Except Ahlayna has her 24th birthday in her junior(?) year. Most college juniors are 20-21-ish. So where did those extra three years go? She's going straight through college, is described as focused and bookish, and her father's well off enough that she wasn't having to take light course loads for financial reasons. So... yeah... why isn't she in grad school at that age? Whether she was a junior or a senior (separate issue), the age thing bothered me.

Lots of other errors too. I really wish this had a good editor/proofreader, because while some of the mistakes were more subtle, a lot were blatant. Missing words, extra words, the/that or build/built or similar typos. Like many other authors (it seems), there was an inability to correctly use the verb "relish." Tons of comma splices (another pet peeve) which should have been separated with periods as two full sentences, or joined by a semicolon instead. And quite a lot of missing commas too, which made more that one sentence very confusing. Even missing periods from time to time - not even a comma splice as those sentences ran together. And one mistake I hadn't seen in a while: possessive apostrophe errors. There were several examples of things like "her fathers' [protection]," using the plural s' instead of 's.

Some of the proofreading need was for clarity. A fair number of odd wordings or weird phrasings or idioms, to start with. I'll give an author a pass if these are used in conversation - makes it more like spoken chatter - but in the narration? Nope. And there were several points where pronouns got vague - a roomful of men talking, and only "he" used for a couple sentences. Or a conversation with Tati and Ahlayna where only "she" is used for a few sentences. That sort of thing. While you can figure out who's doing what, it took me a few read-throughs to get there. And some words or phrases got overused - "entice" was used quite a lot, and I've never read something where characters sucked their teeth and smacked their lips quite so much.

3rd person POVs. I'd say assorted, rather than alternating - mostly Ty and Layna, but also Tati, Shotty, Shante, Reece... and even then, the sections didn't stay within that person's thoughts. No cheating, no love triangle nonsense, and no OM drama. OW drama sets off the big climax. Fast moving plot and a touch superficial at times, but I enjoyed the dynamics between the characters. Enjoyable read. I just really wish she'd had a good proofreader. I know it sounds nitpicky and fussy to get caught up on grammar and punctuation like I do, but it can just get so confusing when the rules aren't followed. HEA and epilogue with no cliffhangers.

Would I read more by this author? I think so. Like I said, I liked the atmosphere and the characters and plot are all enjoyable - it's the editing and proofreading that needed the work. It's easier to learn punctuation or to hire a proofreader than to learn how to write a good character. So, yeah, I'd give another story a try.

This was aight. One thing that bugged me is that Ahlayna was a junior at 24. I must have missed something but typically that's grad school age

Ahlayna ♥️ such a quiet storm, lol. In the beginning she was a woman of few words, only speaking and loosening up to her bestie, and my boo Tati. Talk about fucking sisterhood. Tati rode for Layna fa sho. I was in here geeked as she beat Shantel slut ass 😂😂 It was crazy dope to me that she handled that for her without Layna even knowing about it. I felt telling her Shante was the reason she got kidnapped would only hinder the healing she was trying to do from that bullshit Shante pulled w/ Diego. That hurt my feelings when they grabbed my baby Lay 😩😭 she was so sweet and bothered nobody. The way Tati loved on her w/out bothering her for details 😩 That's a real fucking friend/sister 💯 Lay just wanted to live a normal life but as usual, men always get you in some bullshit 😒😂☠️. Speaking of men, Ahlayna's daddy can get it 👩‍❤️‍💋‍👨🗣️ lmao, Gunplay sounded like a skraight old school boss. But, on to Lay and Wolf ♥️ bitch, the sexual chemistry between these two is suffocating as hell. Their little game of cat and mouse had me squirming 😂 Her ignoring him as if he wasn't there was cute ♥️ Like girl he know that coochie callin' for him. You make it so obvious w/ yo mouth 🙊 sex scenes are 🔥💦 they're erotic as hell 👀 wooo chiiii. They're connection was LOUD. I felt as if I was feeling their emotions too. Aubree did her shit, weaving a story so fire I'm still sitting here cheesing thinking about it. Not like he could anyways, but I'm glad Wolf took Tati and Shotty's relationship well. So much for rules huh 😂😂 The whole entire circle of friends was solid though. I loved their bond. Black included ♥️ Aubree's story telling is fire and this story just flowed so well. Y'all will love this one 😍

Missing something but good plot

The two main characters , Ahlayna and Tyrell, spent exactly half the story(two months time) admiring each other from afar and had maybe three conversations but somehow they were madly in love by the end??? Wish the author would have built their relationship more before jumping into "love". Other than that and some repetitive dialogue I enjoyed the storyline. The lack of initial romance build took away from the main characters connection but the overall plot and backstory was nice. Would have been two stars but I really liked the relationship between Tati and Ahlayna, they didn't have petty drama and their opposite personalities complimented each other.

Friends to family 😀

First congratulations on your 10th book it is definitely well-deserved. I really enjoy reading this book it was nice to see Ahlayna was just a normal quiet young lady even though her father was really someone huge in the business. Ty was just a young man who stepped up to do what he had to do to take care of his Tati and himself. Tati and Ahlayna are definitely the best of friends. Among Ty's friends Shotty and Black they've created their own little family. Ahlayna father did not play when it came to her. I would recommend this book great job Aubree Pynn.

Alaynah is a student trying to live life in her bubble and on her own terms, without the influence and power of her arms dealer father. Ty (Wolf) is her best friend's brother and her secret crush, but both of them feel off limits to the other. Until they're not.

I actually loved this. Ty and Alaynah put up as much fight as they could, and then when they fell, they fell hard. I loved that. It felt like a great build up for such a short read. AP is really good at covering her story arc completely even when she's giving you something that's not that long. Ty's sister and his best friend was a nice subplot that I was happy about. And Black was funny. The story had the right amount of love, lust, humor, danger, and fun. Alaynah being taken and her father entering the scene made me feel like I was watching a great movie, and it fit everything so perfectly. Great job.

Love this book

I loved this book and Ahlayna and Tati’s friendship was everything. Definition of ride or die, sisters, whatever you want to call it. Wolf was a man; he kind of scared me in the beginning but he was just what Layna needed. I loved their relationship and the way that they were each other’s peace. The love was real and definitely felt. I liked that there was just enough drama to add to the the storyline. Such a good story!! Ps, I like Tati and Shotty together and everyone needs a friend like Black! He made me laugh so much!

Moth To A Flame

No matter how hard Ty and Ahlayna tried to fight their attraction to each other they still ended up together loving on each other. Women like Shante really gets on my nerves trying to hold on to a man who doesn't want you and I'm glad that she got what she deserved. I'm glad that Ty didn't try to come in between Diego and Tati's relationship. Reece Gunplay wasn't nothing to play with and I like the fact that he saw himself in Ty/Wolf and gave his blessing for him to be with Ahlayna. I enjoyed reading this book.

Ty and Layna

This was an amazing book. I would love to have had a man like Tyrell he made sure he protected this family. It was funny what he had did to Diego in the beginning tho lmaoo. Shantae she was super salty and deserved that beat down when a person doesn't want you nomore move on dont try being harm their way when its only gonna be more bad for you when they find out. It was also good to see how everyone got their happy ending love it when books end that way.

Great story

Another enjoyable read by Aubree
This was a page turner
I could not put it down until I finished
There is action, friendship, family love
Seeing the way Tyrell and Ahlayna love and support for each other unfolds was beautiful
The lesson of keeping your loved ones a priority was evident throughout the story

Keep writing these relateable stories Ms Aubree, I have enjoyed all your books so far
Great job!!!

A good novella! Straight to the point, fast paced, but also good timing if that makes sense. Time was moving fast but it still felt like Wolf and Layna were somewhat taking it slow. For it to be a novella you actually got a little build up which I liked. The colliding of two worlds was good. I expected more from her daddy but I was glad he knew how and when to stay in his line. A good weekend read!

Ride or Die

I REALLY enjoyed this book. I was engaged throughout the entire read. Tati was wild and funny. Layna was quiet but loyal. I love the connection between Ty and Layna and the way they encourage each to pursue their dreams. I just wish we could gotten more of Shotty and Tati love story. Hopefully(cross fingers), we will soon!

Ty and Alahyna

Is it true that we subconsciously date a replica of our daddies? I didn’t but in some ways I did. We try to steer away from those ways, but those are the ways that show us love. Ty was trying to be hard but God knows what you need. Question: is that the same Gunplay that was with Trigger and Letavia? Good job!!!

😩😅 Part 2 or nah?!? This book was short and sweet but definitely left you wanting more. I enjoyed the tug of war game Ahlayna and Ty played with one another. It was very intense and definitely kept me on the edge of my seat. I was anxiously waiting for her to give in and so damn glad when she did 😏😂

Truly phenomenal read

I loved each and every character...Tati and Ahlayna friendship was truly amazing and showed the true definition of sisterhood... I was so happy that Ty took Tati’s and Shotty relationship so well... I loved me some Ahlayna and Ty they were kind of perfect... for her that old saying rang true she found someone like her daddy simply amazing... For that stunt that Shante pulled she needed more than just a beat down but overall definitely more than five star worthy

I liked that Ahlayna was a reserved bookworm. I also liked how she created a bubble of peace to retreat to. Tati was a good friend. I liked Ty and Ahlayna's connection. Now the story did take a very dramatic turn over a jealous ex-girlfriend. I did like how Ahlayna's surprising connection to the drug world was kept a secret until the dramatic events took place. Cute story bro.

What a story

From the first word to the last word I was held captive. Tati and Lahana bond and love for one another was spell bounding and sisterhood goals. Ty proved that a man would do anything for his soulmate. Lahana proved that when a women loves you she feeds your mind soul, and spirit.

Ty and A

This is my second book that I have read from this author and I loved it. The characters are always well written and you have no choice but to fall in love with them. Ty and A's love story was so cute. The taunting, the teasing and all the flirting they did had me on the edge of my seat. This book is definitely worth reading.

Like a Moth to a Flame...

Ahlayna had led a sheltered life until her freshman year of college. She then met Tatiana and they instantly bonded, BFFs and sisters for life. Ahlayna knew Tatiana's brother was the biggest dope man on the east coast, but she was drawn to Wolf anyway. Besides, she had a few secrets of her own...

Run From Me

You’ve gotta love a good story where neither character is looking for Love until their hearts cross paths and decide for them! I loved the story of Tyrell & Ahlayna. I love how they continued to show up for each other in ways that others never did! 10/10, I’d definitely recommend this book! Aubree hasn’t disappointed yet!
