Life has finally settled down for Eric Sibley and his family; Abi and Mabel are happy, his mother-in-law is on hand for support, and life has begun to have a sense of normalcy and routine to it.
But, with cash flows running low, Eric has to acknowledge it is time to re-enter the world of employment. Unfortunately, jobs suited to former high-flying recruitment executives are of short supply in the sleepy town of Burlam.
When the opportunity to do some teaching at the local school arises, eager to inspire young minds and make a 'difference', Eric decides that this could be just the job for him. Will he pass with flying colours or end up with a 'could do better.'
Join Eric once again in the fourth instalment of the Peas and Carrots Series. This delightfully funny and poignant series just gets better and better.

Born in 1984, Hannah grew up in the Cotswolds, UK. After graduating from university, she spent 15 years as a teacher of physics, first in the UK and then Thailand, Malaysia, Austria and Jordan. It was during this time, inspired by the imaginations of the young people she taught, she began writing short stories for children, and later adult fiction.
With over 30 publications spanning a number of genres and translated into a dozen languages, Hannah has proven herself to be both an accomplished and prolific author.
Now settled back in the UK with her husband, daughter and clowder of cats, she spends her days writing romantic comedies and historical fiction. Her first historical fiction novel, Athena's Child, was also a 2020 Gold Medalist at the Independent Publishers Awards.
It’s been a year and a half since baby Mabel came into their lives. For Eric, learning to be a new Dad again after such a long hiatus was challenging at first. With Mabel’s adoption finalised and Yvette on hand to help now that the work on her enjoining granny annex is complete, life for Eric finally seems to have settled down.
With their finances in dire straits however, Eric is forced to acknowledge that he needs to find work. When the opportunity to teach at the local school arises, Eric decides that it’s just the job for him. In spite of his eagerness to inspire young minds and make a difference, Eric’s first day as teacher doesn’t go quite as he planned. Can Eric succeed in juggling fatherhood with his new job?
Well plotted, skillfully written, entertainment at its finest.. Peas, Carrots and Lessons in Life is the fourth engaging instalment of the Peas and Carrots series which sees Eric embarking on a new career in teaching in order to solve his cash flow problems. Unfortunately teaching turns out to be a more challenging prospect then he initially thought with one problem student in particular hellbent on being disruptive. Will Eric be able to get through to him?
The deeply buried family secret that was revealed in the last book initially takes a backseat as Eric wants to protect Yvette. A comment made by Abi however has Eric re-evaluating his decision. Will his search prove fruitful?
The author has once again managed to ramp up the entertainment value with an engaging plot that introduces new characters into the fray, leading to hilarious and at times poignant moments. She has a truly wonderful knack for characterisation which readers will find apparent in the eclectic mix of personalities throughout this instalment.
This has been a worthy addition to what has been an exceptional multi-layered journey of self discovery and adventure and as someone who is totally invested in these characters, I can’t wait to see what the author has in store for her next book.
Everyone struggles at some point in life. Sometimes, it is the support and/actions of just one person that makes a difference and gives you the courage to carry-on instead of turning away.
We revisit Eric and his blended family as he embarks on a new career path. Naturally, there are plenty of dramas and surprises but this instalment has a bit more heart. Another entertaining round of escapism.
I wasn't so sure about this one, as most of the major characters were new to the series. However, as has happened in the previous books, they did grow on me. By the end, I found myself thoroughly enjoying the story.
Another fun filled adventure for the dysfunctional Sibleys. I found this book slightly harder to get into than the previous books as I was having to meet various new characters, but once I got over that soon found myself exceeding the two chapters I had planned to read. Well done again Hannah, another winner
