Detective Brett O'Shea just discovered something about himself-something that could be the death of him. For three years, Brett has hunted and killed supernatural monsters that are the basis of nightmares. He thinks he has seen it all. This case will test Brett's resolve and his ability to overcome a great loss. When an Egyptian exhibit arrives in Des Moines, the terror begins.
My first novel, Believe, was released in August 2013. It is a romance/time travel novel. The setting is Victorian England.
My second novel, York Street - A Ghost & A Cop Series It is a paranormal thriller. I really love creating characters and stories that encompass paranormal qualities. York Street was a finalist in mysteries for the Eric Hoffer Awards.
Other books in the Ghost and A Cop series are: Red Sunset Drive, Tempest Court, and Hazzard Avenue The titles of these books are from actual street names in Des Moines. Each book features a different type of paranormal killer.
Hazzard Avenue was used to create the movie, Voodun, which will be released in 2024. Jan has written two screenplays - The Veil and Lost Lake. Look for Lost Lake the movie to be released in 2024.
There are lots of twists and turns in Tempest Court. It was an interesting book and I enjoyed reading it. I liked Brett and the the stories. It was a fast paced book. Brett has hunted and killed many monsters. He experienced a great loss. Then an Egyptian exhibit to the Des Moines Art Center, the terror begin and he has to hunt again. Brett and his friend Michael, are hunt a mummy who wants to gaining his immortality. Brett use a book of spells in order to defeat the mummy. This was a great book.
I received a free copy of Tempest Court in return for an honest review.
This is the third in a series about Brett O’Shea, a police office in Des Moines, Iowa, who finds himself solving murders with links to the supernatural. He has faced demons and vampires in past books. In this story he faces an evil mummy. He has lots of help, including his girlfriend, fellow officers, an Egyptologist, and, oh yeah, his great-grandfather, Michael, who is a ghost. It’s a fun read, almost like a Scooby-Doo mystery for grown-ups (mostly because of a few sex scenes). There were a few transition problems and a few occasions where I had to look back to see who was talking. But other than that, not bad for a light read.
Immersing fascinating concepts from ancient Egypt into modern day, this character driven, supernatural mystery - the first of a new series from prolific author Jan Walters packs a creepy punch.
Being a detective is a difficult, challenging job but to make matters worse, Brett O’Shea’s cases now include the supernatural. From Vampires to ghosts now he knows what’s really lurking in the dark, each day brings unexpected - unseen dangers and heightened paranoia. Only a handful of Brett’s peers, his girlfriend Lisa, and his late grandfather, former detective, Michael are also aware of which often creates gaps in his working relationships.
To break the tension of everyday life Brett and Lisa take a much needed holiday overseas and despite Brett being on edge, all goes well until they meet a mysterious man with an equally mysterious ancient rug. This time trouble travels home with Brett and this time all bets are off.
Jan Walters’ latest story is a must read and she’s definitely one to keep an eye out for. I’ve always loved Ancient Egypt. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and look forward to the next instalment. Thank you Jan!
I recieved this book for free in exchange for an honest review.
Detective O'Shea doesn't live a "normal" life anymore. Every case he seems to get nowadays is something supernatural. And to top it all off his dead great grandfather helps with his cases as much as he can with the big guy with a capital G breathes down his ghostly neck. Now its time solve another with one to many murders, a runaway mummy, and men in weird clothing.
This was a good book. It was at a nice pace (I would say medium to fast) no extra unnecessary words to fill a page for a climax. Straight to the point in my opinion. Storyline was great. Characters are good but nothing that would 'wow' you. If you're a wimp like me I did shed a few tears. Overall great work!
This book was an interesting read that follows Detective Brett O'Shea as supernatural elements surround him and his family and friends. Supernatural elements seem to always grasp him, with his "trust sidekick" being his Ghost-Great Grandpa named Michael O'Shea. Michael, we learn quickly, was also a cop when he was alive. A gruesome mass murderer runs amock, and it's up to Brett and his friends to figure out who it is, what has happened and prevent any future danger. Some parts of the book were almost generically written, but there was always an event that pulled me back. I can say that some Rated R scenes were just simply unmoving to the story. However, the supernatural element saved the day. The mystery around the mummy on this cover is worth reading this book alone.
