Morbid Luminosity

The poems in this collection were born out of disillusionment, monotony, depression, anxiety, darkness, and rage; crafted in Doc Martens and flannel. I am Generation X, and the writings in this book represent this time period in all its dark beauty.

Morbid Luminosity

I kept feeling tears on my cheeks from the familiar feelings that the words unearthed from my mind. Poetry from the Gen X side is very interesting, and extremely relatable. I recommend this little book if only to explain to others my own experience.

If you are looking for some flowery poems then this is not the book for you. If you want to read some raw thoughts and emotion that do not shy away from the dark, then this is perfect for you. The author bares her soul for the world to read.

Loved the Precise Images of Some Pieces

My poetry teachers taught us to use as much rich sensory detail and concrete imagery as possible to evoke thought and emotion rather than discussing feelings or ideas intellectually. It’s a great guideline, but I’ve come to realize it’s also a matter of taste.

Regardless, I do still enjoy the flourishes of a well-placed image conjuring feelings and associations within me as I read, sometimes rising to the symbolic level.

There are a good assortment of image-heavy poems here for those that favor a sensuous writing style as well as some more “thinkerly” poems. So there should be something to suit your taste wherever you fall on the spectrum.
