OMGoodness! The combination of Emma Grant and Laird Ciar (Key-ar) Grant is phenomenal. I don’t think we could ask for a better hero and heroine. Picture this huge, gruff, powerful, craggy Highland Laird without a gentle bone in his body – except for one small, delicate, sheltered, blind woman. Ciar has known and been best friends with Emma’s brother, Robert (The Highland Renegade), all his life – and he’s known Emma almost that long as well. Everyone, especially the males, treats Emma as if she isn’t even there – everyone except Ciar that is. He always takes time to speak to her, to assure that she is listened to, and he doesn’t treat her as if she is less just because she is blind. He protects her – without taking away her independence. Is it any wonder she’s always adored him?
Emma and her family, as well as Ciar and many other Highland Lairds, are at Achnacarry Castle for the wedding of Sir Kennan Cameron and Divana Campbell (The Highland Rogue). Emma hates leaving her home at Moriston Hall because of her trouble negotiating unfamiliar terrain and layouts. At home, she can roam freely because she knows every rock, pebble, chair, and rug and can easily negotiate her way among them. Away from home, she feels inadequate and dependent and she hates that feeling.
Tensions are running high in Scotland – and in the Highlands in particular. Queen Anne has taken to her bed and isn’t expected to rise again. Without an heir, the monarchy would be in crisis. The English want the Hanoverian George, who has never even stepped foot on English soil, to become King. The Jacobite Scots want James who is of Stuart blood. The powerful Lairds stand ready to raise their armies in support of James – but will James even come?
When Anne passes and George is tapped for the succession, all of the Lairds who are gathered for the wedding head out in different directions to spread the word and to gather support for James. As Ciar is speeding on his way, he encounters murder and robbery. He can’t just pass it by. The only honorable thing to do is to stop and help. Yet, it is he who awakens, manacled, in the prison at Fort William. Governor Henry Wilcox takes great delight in having a powerful Highland Laird as a ‘guest’ in his prison. He’d hang Ciar immediately if it wouldn’t cause riots and even more unrest. He’ll still hang him – just not as quickly.
We soon learn just how smart, brave, and resourceful Emma is. She is a remarkable young woman who doesn’t let her physical limitations stop her. Breaking Ciar out of an English prison, under the noses of the English soldiers, is either the most foolhardy or the bravest thing Ciar has ever seen. Now, they are both wanted and on the run. They have to avoid the soldiers and yet manage to prove Ciar’s innocence. Oh! What an exciting adventure they have before they make it to their HEA.
I absolutely loved this book! I loved how Ciar treated Emma as a fully functioning adult rather than someone who is ‘less’. I loved that Emma didn’t let anything stop her. Add an absolutely lovely epilogue to the mix and you have a great 5-star read.

Ciar’s conscience won’t allow him to ride on and he finds himself blamed for the act and thrown into prison at Fort William. He’s utterly shocked to be broken out by a wee lass, and now they’re on the run together. With their enemies closing in on them, Ciar must work to clear his name and keep both himself and Emma safe if he has any hope of a future with the woman he’s come to love with his whole heart.
I’m a total sucker for gentle giant, beastly heroes and Ciar certainly delivered. His belief in his own beastliness and unattractiveness due to his rugged looks just made me want to give him a hug. I loved Emma’s courage and resilience and the fact that she grew as a person and learned to stand up for herself. Her brother and sister-in-law were much too protective of her, to the point of belittling her, and I do wish her brother had acknowledged her strength and capability more and been willing to listen to her. Regardless of the obstacles they faced, these two were great together and I loved that Emma did most of the pursuing herself. The devotion these two had to each other was adorable and their sweetness together was enough to get me through the more nail-biting and suspenseful scenes against the English. This was an enjoyable, well-written book and I’d recommend it for anyone looking for a tense but romantic read.

Got lost in the Highlands once again!
With each new read in the Lords of the Highlands I fall more and more in love with this time period and the people who lived it. It may be fiction but these characters feel so real, their stories so vivid, I want them to be real…
Emma was blind but her view of the world was inspiring and any obstacles she met were quickly jumped over, around or simply batted down. Her friendship and love for Ciar was years in the making as he treated her as simply a person, not a blind person. When she had the chance to save him for a change, well, she was up for the challenge… Ciar was a strong leader with a heart of gold, for Emma at least. He had a ruthless reputation but how he cared for Emma was telling and made their story not surprising at all, despite the many surprises the story actually held.
Full of political intrigue, action and swoony romance, this story is just one of the reasons why this series and author have become one of my favourites… ~Diane, 4 stars

This may very well be my favorite Highlander romance yet.
This story features a woman named Emma. Blind from birth, she has navigated her life in a way that kept her protected and away from most people until about a year before the beginning of this novel. The only outside person she got to spend any time with was Ciar, the Laird of a neighboring clan that their clan is allied with.
Emma has had a long time crush on the rough man. Though she can't see him with her eyes, she sees him in other ways. In their touch, in his voice, and being in tune with things. So when Ciar is accused of murder, Emma stops at nothing to protect the man she loves.
Ciar MacDougall may be a Laird, but he has always had eyes for the bonny Emma. A goddess among women, he loved to escort her around, as she had a very unique look on the world. Emma falls in love with a dog, but her sister in law says it isn't feasible for the pup to come with them on their return trip. Ciar wants nothing of that, and gets the dog for her anyways.
They have the sweetest relationship I have read in a while. Ciar feels unworthy of Emma's affections, and thinks her brother will never let him have her. Emma feels like she isn't worth much because people think her a demon because of her blindness.
The way that the smut is written within this particular novel is so beautiful, and all about what you feel rather than what you see during sex, and it was written in a way that was truly moving to me.
Please go pick up this book! It's a glorious thing, and I want everyone to try it!

The Highland Laird is another swoon worthy entry in the Lords of the Highlands series by Amy Jarecki. I look forward to each new release in the series because they are always filled with wonderful characters, rich history, and true love!
In this edition, we learn more about Emma, the sister of Robert Grant (from book 7). She was born blind. Reading of her struggles and triumphs was great, but also realizing that she faced discrimination made me love her even more. She wants adventure in her life and she takes it. Ciar has known Emma for years, for he is allies with Robert Grant. He and Emma share a kiss one evening, but then Queen Anne dies, and Ciar must leave.
I loved that Emma saved Ciar. I loved that Ciar loved her for it! I loved that Ciar supported Emma's goals of having adventures and being independent, but still held her when she cried and comforted her when she hurt. Their time in forced proximity is HOT.
The Highland Laird will appeal to historical romance fans who like well researched history, dynamic characters, and a love worth earning. Jarecki does her research and still honors the romance as well.

Emma Grant may not have had eyesight her entire life, but all of her other senses are superior to most. She has learned many skills and is capable of much although her brother still sees her as fragile and in need of care and protection. There is one man that befriended her when they were both children that treats her as if she is normal only letting her know he is there should she need him and that is Laird Ciar MacDougall, her brother’s friend and ally. The blurb pretty much spells out what will happen in the story and yet there is much more to it than what is in the blurb. Will the two realize that they might have more than friendship if they allow themselves…and if circumstances permit? Probably ;)
What I liked:
* Emma: strong, resilient, capable, able to do more than most believe she can. She is a force to be reckoned with. I liked her.
* Ciar: big, strong, wise, a beast in battle, loving and tender with those he loves. He is perfect for Emma.
* Albert: a superior dog with the ability to assist Emma once he is trained
* Sam: a good lad that I hope will appear in a future book
* The abilities that Emma has acquired from knitting to lock picking – and the skills she would love to learn if given the chance
* Emma’s ability to state what she wants and to reach out for them
* Ciar’s loyalty, love, tenderness and care for Emma – also his honorable side and desire to see justice done
* Emma’s family in spite of their sometimes overprotectiveness
* The writing, story, and all that took place in the story even if the story did require me to suspend belief at times.
* All of it except…
What I did not like:
* The British…the three liars and thieves as well as their commander
* Being reminded of how evil occupying forces can be to the people/natives of the lands they occupy
Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more in this series/by this author? Without a doubt!

Ciar, the hero, was so incredibly swoon worthy in how he interacted with the heroine I don’t even know where to begin. My, oh my, Hmm...Hmm...Hmm. He had me right away with his Scottish alpha protective manly but always incredibly caring, gentleman ways. Good gravy, it was so sweet how this warrior type, ruggedly handsome lad chatted and danced with Emma, the blind, sweet, sheltered, innocent, but verra courageous leading lady. Already well acquainted childhood friends, they seemed to have a perfect, natural rapport that was a sheer pleasure to witness and watch grow into so much more.
Emma may have been sheltered and protected her whole life but this lovely lass had gumption when it really counted. She’d swallow her fear and do whatever she felt was necessary, especially when it came to protecting Ciar. You’ll have to decide for yourself if she was always wise in doing so. I for one was impressed and rolled with it, folks. So naturally it was great to see these two well deserving love birds get their HEA.
Starting after the anticipated, inevitable fall-out drama was wrapped up regarding Ciar’s circumstances, I did feel the storyline had peaked then dropped off to a slower, steady, marching to a marital drum now beat. I guess you could say mainly after he had to fight for their love. They said “I do” so I thought the book was basically done, but it continued 35 pages or so more, taking us along with them into new territory. This ending felt like a favorite of mine format I've often seen romantic tales in this genre begin.
I thought Emma's few, brief, weeping, mental meltdowns, embarrasing injury, and first married now smex scene at her new home was a tad overdone. This gal had been so strong I wasn't sure how I felt about her now crying and feeling so insecure. It did continue to give Ciar even more reason and opportunities to shine as a loving, doting husband.
In either case, I’m really glad I got to spend time with these two verra likeable, sweet together, clear to to verra end main characters.
Having read all the books so far, I must say books 1, 2, 6, 7, and 8 were my personal favorites. Don’t let the first two words of the titles trick you into thinking these are cookie cutter romances. Each one is a unique stand-alone romantic tale, just part of the same series. Keep them coming, Ms. Jarecki, because I’ll keep coming back for more!

The Highland Laird was a phenomenal read featuring an exciting plot and a wonderful romance.

This is the first book in the series that I have read and it works well as a standalone. There are a number of side characters I'm interested in learning more about, so I definitely will be reading the other books.

Ciar is laird of his clan and he considers his honor to be one of his greatest strengths. With the fate of his people counting on him, Ciar takes his responsibilities seriously and everything he does is for the good of his clan.
Emma and Ciar's relationship starts off a bit slow as Ciar is the best friend of Emma's brother and as such has always strived to keep their relationship neutral. However as the two spend more time together, it becomes clear their feelings are much deeper than those of just friends. Ciar is so supportive of Emma and he doesn't underestimate her abilities the same way everyone else does. In fact, Ciar admires the way Emma is able to look at the word and I enjoyed the scenes where Emma tried to teach Ciar to "see" things as she does. The chemistry between these two is fantastic and the forced proximity while on the run only enhances that. The murder Ciar is framed for added a nice amount of suspense to the story and I enjoyed the closeness it brought to the pair's relationship. The steamy scenes in the book are very well done with a big focus on only doing what Emma is comfortable with.
Overall The Highland Laird was fantastic and I definitely want to check out the rest of the series in the future. I highly recommend this if you're looking for a great highlander romance.

This was really fun overall, but it felt too long for me. I'm not sure if it's because I've just not been in a historical mood lately or not.

Emma Grant has been sheltered most of her life because of her blindness, but her friends and family have underestimated her abilities in life. She’s been in love with her brother’s best friend Ciar MacDougal her whole life. Ciar is a rugged highlander known as the Beast, he’s always been polite and respectful of Emma, always coming to her rescue when needed. When she learns he’s being held hostage and imprisoned for a murder she knows he didn’t commit nothing will stop her from going to his aide. It seems Emma has always loved Ciar, he’s always been a true friend and always listened to her, he’s always treated her has a person and been amazed by her accomplishments. I love how these two grow and love begins to blossom as they run and ride from the Redcoats as Ciar sets about trying to prove his innocents and keep Emma safe from the Redcoats. I have voluntarily read and reviewed these excellent story.

The Highland Laird by Amy Jarecki is an incredible read. The heroine has a disability that shows her more things in life than those without the handicap. In this book, her weakness is also her strength. I loved how she was able to own her own weakness and use it against her enemies. Danger is a constant threat especially for her. But now, during the troubling time period in which this novel is set, danger is for all of her people. Themes of trust, loyalty, and love are tested on every page. The hero has his strength tested when dealing with his enemies and that of the heroine. It takes a strong man to fight his desires back while trying to protect his country. Love doesn't have to be sacrificed. In fact, the characters learn that it can be of help in the most troubling of times. There was also an instant liking towards the characters. I felt connected to them. Their attraction towards each other was fun to follow. Amy Jarecki's novel was well-developed. I could almost hear the characters talking in their Scottish dialect.

What a brilliant and inspiring story! The Highland Laird is chock full of danger, intrigue, unlikely saviors, and wonderfully vibrant characters. Cair and Emma are intriguing characters on their own, but put them together and it brings a new world to life. Hands down, the absolute best part of this book was dear Emma. Her sheer strength and tenacity for life is awe inspiring. When she would describe the world as she "sees" it, I had to take a moment to let that soak in. It encourages the reader to experience something ordinary in a beautiful way. I loved how Cair never held her back. At times he might have been frustrated with her choices, but he was ever patient, always seeing her as a capable and powerful woman, gifted with a unique perspective of the world around her. I could go on and on, but here is the bottom line.
Amy Jarecki has created a story that will capture all your senses in a heartfelt way, complete with a story brimming with danger, love, respect, and courage. The Lords of the Highland series continues to get better and better and I can't wait for more.

This book was the love story of Emma Grant and Laird Ciar MacDougall. We have met both characters in previous books of the Lords of the Highlands series. I found the premise of this very interesting because of Emma being blind. I love a story that has someone beating the odds. I truly enjoyed the incorporation of the dog and how she trained him to assist her.
I found the love story between Ciar and Emma very sweet. They had known and cared for each other for years. While there are parts of the story that are a little hard to believe as what could realistically be happening for the time period, but this is easy to look past. There is action, adventure and some very sweet love scenes. This was a nice love story that flowed well. I would recommend it to people who enjoy Donna Fletcher, Hannah Howell, Mary Wine or Lynsay Sands.

He always takes time to talk to her and treats her with respect. How could she not love him? So when she learns that he has been captured by the English and is being accused of murder – there is no way she is going to let them hang him!
Cair MacDougall is on a mission for Scotland when he witnesses a murder, he intervenes awakes to find himself shackled and slated to be executed. He is ready to resign himself to that fate when the unthinkable happens – he is rescued by Emma! Now they are both on the run for their lives and Ciar knows he must find a way to prove his innocence, so he can keep this amazing woman for the rest of his life.
What a wild and crazy ride this book is – it is everything you could hope for in a romance book and more. This is the eighth book in the series and does have some connections to the series, but it can easily be read as a standalone title with no problems.

The Highland Laird is a wonderful addition to the Lords of the Highlands series and focuses on Emma, a blind and sheltered woman who leaves the safety of her family to rescue the man she loves. On a mission for Scotland, Cial is falsely imprisoned for murder and sentenced to death. However, when Emma, his friend’s beautiful sister, rescues him, Ciar has a chance to clear his name and be with the woman he loves. Now on the run, can Emma and Ciar evade the Redcoats who pursue them until they clear Ciar’s name?
I enjoyed this historical romance. The characters are well-developed, and the plot is filled with action, excitement, and a swoon-worthy romance. I love Emma’s fierce determination to save the man she loves, assert her independence, and have a grand adventure. She trains a pup to aid her and doesn’t back down when challenged. Her fiery spirit and kindness endear her to others, especially Ciar.
The romance between Ciar and Emma is fantastic! They’ve known each other since childhood and have wonderful chemistry. From the start of the book, it is clear they have feelings for each other, and once Emma rescues Ciar, their relationship deepens. Ciar and Emma respect and admire each other, but there is so much more to this couple.
Ciar and Emma understand each other and see each other in ways that no one else does. Ciar doesn’t see a woman in need. He sees a strong, brave woman, who looks at the world in an amazingly unique way. I love the way he supports her but doesn’t hinder her. He treats her as an equal, which is something she doesn’t experience often. Emma, in turn, doesn’t see a “beast,” as others often call Ciar. She sees a kind, brave, and honorable leader who treats everyone with respect. The depth of their feelings is immense, and it is lovely to see their relationship evolve.
The historical aspects of this story are also really interesting. Jarecki delves into the tense political situations following the death of the Queen and how it affected England and Scotland. She also examines the maltreatment and prejudice that befell blind people during that time period, who would have been persecuted and potentially murdered for their disability.
Though this is the eighth book in the series, it can totally be read as a standalone. I didn’t read all of the books in the series, and I easily followed along, as will readers who enjoy historical romance with fantastic characters and an action-filled story! The Highland Laird was a very good read. I thought it was a very sweet romance between Laird Cair and Emma Grant, who was born blind. Emma's blindness caused for her brother to be a little overprotective of her but she's shown him that she can handle herself well. Cair and Emma have known each other since they were young. Cair is one of Emma's brother closest allies. She has always had special feelings for him and he has always treated her. He always saw beyond her blindness. I loved how he treated her and that her facial expressions tended to give her a way.
They found their own adventure together. Emma and Cair find it a wonderful experience in which some obstacles had be overcome in order to have their HEA.

Amy Jarecki did such an amazing job in writing this book! I really enjoyed the story, the characters, and all of the drama. A blind heroine made the story really unique, particularly during a time period when blindness was thought to be a sign that you are evil. Her saving grace was being the sister of a laird and sheltered by him. The way the story began drew me in, as the reader is dropped into the middle of a wedding celebration and the heroine is trying to find her way around blind. It really gives us a great perspective of what that must be like and how dependent someone might be on others looking out for them. It certainly made me appreciate my eyesight, as bad as it is.
Emma Grant has always trusted Ciar MacDougall, ever since he was introduced to her when she was a child, and he never looked down on her for her blindness. Emma was a sweetheart, hampered by her blindness but determined to live a full life in spite of her limitations. Ciar was the perfect person from here, made obvious as he refused to treat her any differently from other people. He danced with her, made sure she was taken care of at every opportunity, and he was determined to make sure that she would be happy, even if it wasn't with him. The history of the time period made their love very poignant for me, as I didn't realize how ostracized blind people were during that time. At one point a reference is made to a man who was killed because of his blindness, and it put Emma's situation in a dangerous light. Had she not been born into a powerful family, she would likely have found herself in a similar situation. That's what I love about Amy Jarecki's books - not only do you get a great romance from it, but you also learn a lot about the time period.
I haven't read every book in this series, so that should tell you how easily you can jump in and out of this series depending on what book you want to read. This book landed on my radar thanks to Julie @ One Book More. After reading her review I was curious enough to get a sample on my Kindle and although I had no intention of reading it just yet, when I picked it up last night I zoomed through the sample and immediately bought the book to keep reading. Now here we are! I just didn't want to put it down.
I'm a big romance fan but I don't read many historical ones, and this was also my first taste of a historical Scottish romance. You can definitely say I'm sold and I've already got another one of these books lined up to read soon! It was full of action and adventure, not to mention the chemistry between our hero and heroine was pretty damn fire 🔥 It got pretty steamy too and I'd put this at close to 4/5 on the steamy scale.
I really liked Ciar and Emma. They were wonderfully written characters who complemented each other so well! Ciar was known as a 'beast' thanks to his stature and gruff looks but you wouldn't know that considering how gentle he is with Emma. I swooned at how supportive he was of her and how he was still able to look out for her, without smothering her need for independence and adventure. He really understood her and unlike others who defined her by her lack of sight, he didn't do that. I absolutely adored Emma's character. She's young and there's a natural naivete about her that doesn't come across as annoying. I love her passion for life and how she really doesn't let her disability keep her from experiencing it in her own unique way, despite being raised under her overprotective brother's charge. In all the years they've known each other, Cair always treated her kindly and didn't make her feel like she wasn't capable of doing anything she wished, which is really all she wanted. So it was especially heartwarming to see them come together and get a HEA! They really brought out the best in each other and their characters fit together so perfectly.
While the romance was obviously my favourite part, I also really enjoyed the historical context and learning more about the political climate at the time, as well as about the society, including their superstitious beliefs about and judgements against blind people!
TL;DR: Although this was really my first taste of a historical Scottish highland romance, of which I know there are plenty, I thoroughly enjoyed it! There was plenty of fast-paced action, sweet flirtations, and a surprisingly steamy romance, all set against an interesting historical backdrop. Cair and Emma were wonderful characters who stole my heart and who absolutely deserved their HEA. I can't wait to read more from this particular series, but also more historical romances in general! 😍

I couldn't wait for this story and wondered how this author would fit it into the timeline of events. There was war brewing between Scotland and England along with a sudden change of monarchy so fitting a romance amongst this was quite fitting I thought.
Loved Ciar, the hero. A fierce Highlander, a bit rough around the edges and he considered himself not too handsome. But after the author's description I pictured him standing with one leg on a rock at the top of the Highlands with the wind blowing through his hair and beard.
Also loved Emma from the onset. At times I felt she was a strong, independent woman and at other times wondered why she felt the urge to sneak around undetected. I loved the story, somewhat reminding me of Beauty and the Beast.... but her rescue attempt threw me off. With the country in turmoil, I found it far too risky and dangerous for her to travel alone with a 16 yr old stable boy. The dragoons were already combing through Scotland and there had already been one murder.
I love this author's work, would read every single story she taps out, but this one wasn't one of my favorites. Definitely still worth the read. My favorite part of this book was seeing the world through Emma's eyes. It made me realize how much I take for granted. I was gifted an ARC and wanted to post a review.

What a brilliant and inspiring story! The Highland Laird is chock full of danger, intrigue, unlikely saviors, and wonderfully vibrant characters. Cair and Emma are intriguing characters on their own, but put them together and it brings a new world to life. Hands down, the absolute best part of this book was dear Emma. Her sheer strength and tenacity for life is awe inspiring. When she would describe the world as she "sees" it, I had to take a moment to let that soak in. It encourages the reader to experience something ordinary in a beautiful way. I loved how Cair never held her back. At times he might have been frustrated with her choices, but he was ever patient, always seeing her as a capable and powerful woman, gifted with a unique perspective of the world around her. I could go on and on, but here is the bottom line.
Amy Jarecki has created a story that will capture all your senses in a heartfelt way, complete with a story brimming with danger, love, respect, and courage. The Lords of the Highland series continues to get better and better and I can't wait for more.

You can’t beat the setting of the beautiful Highlands of Scotland!
I really liked the character of Emma who is a different kind of heroine. Emma is courageous, beautiful, and blind. It was refreshing to read about a person with a disability in a romance novel. Our hero, Ciar was strong and sensitive and the perfect love interest for Emma.
I appreciated the Author’s Notes at the end and learning some of the historical details. It is fun to think that this book is based on a real Scottish Laird.
I enjoyed the romance, setting, and characters of this book and recommend it to romance readers.

An exciting adventure with two wonderful characters that win your heart from the beginning! A strong highlander, Laird Ciar MacDougal is attending a wedding as well as Emma Grant, who is the blind sister of Laird Robert Grant, Ciar's best friend. This is a major outing for Emma, being away from home and all that is familiar, but she has Ciar who seems to be close by to help.

I’ve been re-watching Outlander lately and I was definitely in the mood for a little more sexy Scottsman so this was the perfect book to pick up. Plus it has a fierce, brave, blind heroine looking to stand on her own two feet and not be coddled and handled with kid gloves.
Emma Grant and her family are at Achnacarry Castle for the wedding of Sir Kennan Cameron and Divana Campbell, but tensions are high in Scottland due to the political climate and the Lairds attending the wedding end up heading off in different directions to gather support and rally troops. As our leading man, Ciar MacDougall heads on his way he gets involved in some trouble and wakes up imprisoned in Fort William. Emma decides she’s going to break him out of prison, but can she do it?
I did have some questions about the authenticity of Emma’s experience with blindness though and thought that aspect of the book could have benefited from input by sensitivity readers.
If you enjoy a good friends-to-lovers trope, and you’re in the mood for some adventure, you’ll definitely want to pick this one up.

This is the first book I've read by Amy Jerecki and I look forward to reading more, particularly in this series! While it's number 8 in her Highland series, you can easily read this as a standalone, though I look forward to going back and looking for familiar characters.
Emma is our heroine and what a courageous woman she is. Born blind and highly protected by her brother, Emma has grown up extremely sheltered. In some ways this was necessary as some believe her blindness to be a sign of evilness. Naturally Emma is a wonderful girl with a huge heart. So when she accompanies her brother to a wedding, she is pleased to find her childhood crush in attendance.
Ciar. Ah, what a hero! He's one of my favorite type of heroes, a true alpha male with a heart of gold and an ability to be gentle in times of need. Unlike some, he treats Emma like a woman instead of an invalid. And they come to see that a childhood friendship has blossomed into something else entirely.
But soon enough, a good deed by Ciar gets him in trouble and surprisingly Emma is the one to get him out of it! They find themselves thrust together as they deal with their situation - another one of my favorite tropes, something that pulls the couple together somewhat unbothered by others.
I really loved everything about this book outside of the epilogue, it really made me lose a little respect for Emma. She lost part of her strong and fearless nature and dealt with some insecurities. It was a touching scene, but should have happened far before their HEA. It felt like a step back for these two. Still overall a good read that makes me want to dig into Jarecki's other novels.
My opinion is my own and freely given.

I love this book the most in this series. Why? i love how Ciar treats Emma like an equal and sees her beyond her blindness and as a person. I love how Emma shows everyone how she is more than just blind and how she does everything she can to help Ciar when he is blamed for something he didn’t do. I love how Ciar is placed in a tough situation and chooses the right way no matter how difficult that decision is.
The story is one that shows us how woman are strong and capable even when others think we are not. And in particular those that can’t see. Ciar sees beyond this with emma and that has you respect him more. Ciar is a good Laird-fierce, honest, loyal and fair. His affection for Emma bleeds through the pages and when she goes and helps rescue him that affection is not just felt but goes tenfold. He has a respect and admiration for Emma that grows as well in that time. Emma is sweet, determined and loyal as well.
Their time hiding had us get to know these two and see how strong and capable Emma was. How kind and sweet Ciar is and how much these two cared for one another. There was mutual admiration and respect from the two of them and also a great friendship for they didn’t hold these back from one another. As Ciar tried to find a way to prove his innocence and Emma believed in him they grew closer. Then the unthinkable happens and Ciar is left having to make decisions he shouldn’t. Your heart goes out to him as he battles so much and himself especially. This is a story of love and respect. Of belief in one another and in themselves. It has you rooting for these two the whole time and wanting to have a happy beautiful ending for them as they battle outside forces to prove Ciar is innocent, show those around them the evil of others and fall in love. A wonderful tale that keeps you in the moment from beginning to end.
