A grownup magical fairytale
There is so much that I can say about this book. The whole series, really, it's refreshing, we don't have the usual characters, but that is a great thing. Both of them are old, but still in their prime, and they complement each other perfectly.
There are a few subtle things that I really appreciated about the book, like the way Nikos feels for Jen, there is a phrase I loved: "I've known since the day we fought Cang's minions that I did not have to guard you, that we would stand together side by side". And that's one of the things I loved, unlike other shifter romances, Nikos is not overprotective, but recognizes and appreciates Jen's strength.
From Jen, I really appreciate the way she looks at her past, because her background could have opened the doors for her to be bitter or to be a victim, but the way she takes only the best, and instead of regrets she gets lessons. For her her life is not a waste of time, but a lifetime of learnings, and she takes this new opportunity to truly live her own way.
In this book, a person who has always dreamed of magic, gets her wish, and a person who lived by honor and duty gets what he never dared to wish for. It was magic.
I think this book is really something worth reading.
