This biography of former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick focuses on his protest of the treatment of black people by kneeling during the anthem at NFL football games. His reasons are conveyed via quotes and the background news that influenced him is explained as well as the reasons many people were upset by his protest. Written for grades 4—8 in an engaging style with plenty of sources and photographs, this biography provides a nuanced look at Kaepernick’s protest, but only briefly touches on the rest of his life. Recommended.
