Kim and Jessie are living worlds apart, literally and figuratively, and trying to keep their marriage alive across the distances. But chance and circumstance align to present Kim with temptation after temptation, and Jessie discovers that risks and rewards don’t have to be exclusive. In this first story of the series, Kim discovers her alter-ego, and Jessie discovers the allure of jealousy. Kim crosses the line in their marriage... but getting there is more than half the fun.
Kim late 30's moves from her happy life in Boston with husband Jessie, to a beach house in Florida. But then Jessie's new business venture means he has to spend most of his time back in Boston. Just being mindlessly stubborn, Kim digs her heels in, not wanting to uproot again even though unbeknown to Jessie, she had lost her job.
The only friends they have in the Florida area are Michelle and Len. They are not considered true friends and Kim dislikes Len for his arrogant, lecherous attitude.
Lonely and bored Kim turns to drink and this leads to her running in to her two new male student neighbours. One called Hunter catches her eye and she soon starts to flirt and toy with him.
Being a gym bunny also helps Kim pass her time and it is there that she sets eyes on this very black, giant and hugely attractive man. To her surprise he approaches her in a friendly manner and again she sets out to flirt and attract.
Michelle surprises Jessie in Boston and they meet for dinner. He is surprised as he thought she was in Florida with her husband. He had already phoned Len to suggest they give Kim some company. Len is quick to take advantage and takes Kim out to a bar where they both get loaded. Michelle and Len both reveal they are swingers and that Len also has a voyeuristic streak.
Kim is turned on by the fantasy of going further with young buck Hunter, or with the black Adonis and even chastises herself for having shocking thoughts about Len. At the same time Michelle tries to seduce Jessie and comes to the conclusion that he is hiding cuckold tendencies.
This leads to Jessie flying home unannounced but what will he walk in on? Having previously failed with marriage counselling, will this set of events break them or can they open up to each other with their sexual desires and come to an arrangement to satisfy them both.
This is the first book of a series and slowly sets the scene, I am sure there are more explosive sexual scenes to come in the future. It also succeeds in giving the characters a depth which means you want to explore them more. I have given it a four star rating because of this but I have little doubt that it will lead to a 5 star, must read series. Looking forward to the next book.
This is Arnica at her best. Complex likable characters with complicated motivations. Growing communications between a wife (Kim) and husband (Jessie); interesting and unique other characters. This is an excellent book in the erotica genre, with a promise of more; hopefully much more.
This first installment isn’t heavy on the sex, but the sex offered is good and the innuendo is terrific, with an expectation of more and varied trysts to come.
This isn’t a straight forward “make a decision and go for it” story. Understandably, there are missteps and twists, and it’s on the angsty side, but expected as the couple explores new territory.
And then there’s the Len character in the background, pulling strings and pushing buttons. It will be interesting to see how he fits into this story in the end. Lots of possibilities.
There was, for me, a very poignant moment in the story where Kim says “I love you” to Jessie, and Jessie thinks:
“It was the kind of “I love you” that was so different from the way they said it lately; carelessly, without meaning, without need. “I love you, Kim,” he said. And that, too, was truer than it had been for a long time.”
For me erotica needs deep passion; otherwise it’s more like porn. In this couple, Arnica has found the passion she pens so well.
The storyline was complicated by too many final twists of fate especially the last chapter. Kim and Jess are a naive coupling waiting for someone to talk/ watch them transition into a hot couple of adventurers. I would have like to know what the conversation
This storyline was hot and cold. Complicated by too many final twists of fate. The Kim(Jade)and Jess were a very naive couple that needed a push to transition to a hot couple. Glad Hunter proved a good young boy toy. I would have like to find out what they will do for the Jay issue, could be hotter!!
