Stories to inspire. Stories to connect. Extraordinary moments in which women's lives changed forever. Exhilarating, heartbreaking and ultimately inspiring, The Day That Changed My Life is a remarkable collection of stories of Ireland's women and the extraordinary moments which transformed their lives. There are stories of the marvels of motherhood and coming out, leaps of faith and determined entrepreneurship. Stories of crazy highs, such as Oscar nominations and being elected into office. And stories of brave fights against illness and triumphs against all odds. All are united by a strength in adversity, courage and resilience, and an ability to find humour in the darkest places. Our lives change, but some days change our lives forever. 'These women's stories have inspired me beyond measure and I remain in awe of their unwavering honesty. They leave me entirely humbled, while simultaneously stoking a fire in my belly.' A beautiful collection of stories about Irish women, that I absolutely could not put down. This book was a gift from a dear friend who visited Ireland, and I’m so glad for the opportunity to read this book. McBride is a wonderful storyteller and manages to put her own voice in the book that’s about other women, in a way that’s uplifting. The only difficulty I had with this book was pronouncing the Irish names, since I don’t speak Irish. 10/10, highly recommend this wonderful quilt of Ireland.
I enjoyed this book and the real women talking on the pages. Women I have heard of, women I haven’t. Of those I had, their story gave depth and grit to the lives that through press and society are portrayed with few warts. Caitlin McBride guides readers through the realities and challenges of these women and their careers, and has taken the time to curate a variety of personalities and their fascinating career paths. Each woman proving the point that tremendous things can happen in just one day.
I really liked reading the stories of the women featured in this book - some of whom I had heard of but most of whom I had not. Some were devastating, some uplifting, some inspirational but all very interesting. Only reason for not giving 5 stars is that I found I couldn’t read more than a couple of chapters at once so had this book as a “pick up and read one every so often” rather than something I read all the way through.
Likes: Variety of inspiring Irish women, all with their own story to tell Dislikes: Each story followed a similar review which made it mundane at times Recommend For: A great gift for any Irish female. A pick up and read parts "here and there" type of book.
Really excellent book that I greatly enjoyed. I made many highlights and I am sure I will be looking back at them in the future, some really brilliant and inspiring quotes included. The only little thing (and the reason for taking away one star) is I found the editing to be quite poor in some places (is this a kindle issue? I'm not sure). For example, there is a line as follows.. 'I was felt almost numb'. I am admittedly somewhat pedantic so I took note of any of these slight errors, whereas another person may not. All in all I loved getting lost in these remarkable women's stories, they make for a compelling read. I imagine that for the most part, at least one story will resonate with every reader.
