Bestselling author Boni Ashburn and illustrator John Nez’s picture book A Twin Is to Hug celebrates a unique sibling relationship.
Hand in hand, side by side, a twin is your friend. Every step of the way, from beginning to end. Having a twin can be great! With a twin, you have a lifelong bond, a partner in crime, and a food-I-don’t-want-to-eat eater. But with a twin, you also have to share, and take turns, and compare. It’s not always easy, but for better or worse, a twin is a friend who will always be by your side.
With a small trim and expressive illustrations, this package will make the perfect gift for the expectant mother or twin in your life.
“A lighthearted, rhyming celebration . . . the playful language and images will interest young readers who also face sibling ups and downs.” — Kirkus Reviews
Boni Ashburn is the author of eight picture books, including Hush, Little Dragon and I Had A Favorite Dress. Boni lives in the Upper Peninsula Of Michigan with her four children and manages a school-public library.
*Please note: I give 5 stars to books I adore and MUST own, 4 stars to books that will stay with me in some way and that I almost-adore, and 3 stars to books I like. Two stars might be books that I like in some way, but most likely have some particular aspect that I don't think was executed as well as it could have been. One star means I truly do not care for the book- sorry. And no stars? Means I can't decide how I feel about the book and therefore I don't feel qualified to rate it. In any event, I hope no book takes its rating personally :)
Also, I prefer to use goodreads for its intended purpose- to give and find great book recommendations for the types of books I read. If I don't friend you back, it's probably because we don't read a lot of the same genre. For general network-type friending, please look for me on twitter or facebook- thanks!
I gave this picture book 4 stars because I haven’t seen one similar to it before. In short sentences, and with very diverse and well-drawn illustrations, this books describes the complex relationship that twins can share. It goes over many of the descriptions and situations that twins come across together. I loved it!

This book was so cute and I could really relate to it, as I am a twin and have a twin sister myself! I love the way that the author describes a twin and the unique bond that twins have! Parts of this book made me smile and other parts made me laugh. I would definitely recommend reading this book!
A board book that explains all of the ways that two can be twins, and all the great things about being a twin. I would've liked to see diversity in twins, more than one set of twin, but the book wasn't short. I liked the vast variety of examples that make up twins.
Adorable book!! Won’t be able to read to the twins till they are about two, but reading it as a pregnant mom to twins, it was a tear jerker! I read it ever now and again myself and have it displayed on the top of their bookshelf!! All about the highs (and lows) of being a twin! A forever friend.
