Great introduction to veganism with many simple and useful ideas and tips. Presented well researched arguments that really opens one's eyes to just how disgustingly animals are being treated in Australia. I thought it was bad but never really wanted to know just how cruel and exploitative it all was.

Through reading the book, I gained a sense of just how simple a change it would be for someone in my position. This small change in my diet and lifestyle could then have such an extraordinary impact on the environment and animals. There is no doubt in my mind that veganism is the ethically and morally correct lifestyle.

My only concern with the book is that I feel it paints a slightly false narrative. The argument 'not eating a chicken, saves a chicken' is used quite often. However we live in a supply driven economy, the chicken was already slaughtered before someone said they were not going to eat it. It will either then be consumed by another or wasted. The only way to solve this is with systemic change with veganism becoming the norm, which is very unlikely to occur within our capitalistic, profit-driven system. However, this is probably more a critique of the system we live under than the book itself.

I was interested in becoming vegetarian or vegan, saw this book and thought, why the hell not?

It’s a good starting book for someone like me who wasn’t too sure what to expect and I learned lots of new things on the way too. However, when I finished the book I felt quite guilty, like I’d just been told off by a teacher, which I assume is the normal response for non vegans reading this.

It has given me a lot to think about, all I can do is take what I now know and better myself 🥰

This is one of the best books I’ve read about veganism, with comprehensive but simplified information, cute illustrations and excellent guidance. I needed to read something like this to give me the final (gentle) push into going vegan after enjoying a year of being vegetarian. I think it’s good the author also included ways to answer questions from non-vegans and how to avoid conflict, as this is one of the biggest difficulties I have found along this journey.

I definitely believe people owe it to the animals they eat to at least inform themselves on the conditions they are making these animals live and die in. This book would be a great start, along with the books/documentaries in the ‘Resources’ section at the back.

A great book that I encourage anyone to read, even if you are not considering becoming vegan.
After being a stout animal lover for years, and eating meat, it took me a while to connect the dots and realise that eating meat involves a lot of cruelty toward animals and why would any animal lover say they love animals but still eat meat?
I quickly became vegetarian with the goal of becoming vegan shortly after. After reading this book, I want to become completely vegan within the next month.

Personal Reflection: over the past two weeks I have been working out more, writing more and working every day. January has been a solid month, but the summer weather is not what we were expecting.

I dedicate this reflection to my mum, who has been vegetarian and partially vegan for well over a decade.

I have read a lot of books about going vegan (and I have even written a few myself) but I find this to be the best of all of them because there are so many voices in the book, and it is so beautifully designed and illustrated, and the recommendations make such good sense and the reasoning behind these recommendations are so sensible, that I wish I had written it! I hope you will consider buying a dozen copies (as I have) and give them away to friends who have not yet seen the light. This will brighten their way there!

What a wonderful, comprehensive guide to veganism! This book covers a range of various issues and topics in a friendly and supportive way and helped me affirm that veganism is definitely the right choice for me - and anyone who wants a more balanced, healthy and happy future. Even though I have researched extensively on the topic of a plant-based lifestyle I still learnt plenty of new things from Sherman and the other vegan voices presented in this text. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is considering going vegan or even just curious about the topic! 😊🌱
