I have to say I was disappointed with this book but I gave 3 stars as what I don’t like someone else may like and I’m trying to be fair as when you find out all the secrets this wouldn’t have been a bad box set and the actual story wasn’t too bad but could have been over in 2/3 books max once you remove the constant repeated past. The reason I personally didn’t like it as much was the author consistently repeated Sutton’s past, I mean consistently repeated this and I felt it was done to fill words on the page to reach the book quota. It wasn’t required to be repeated as much and because it was I started to dislike Sutton but that’s because the author just didn’t make me feel the empathy I should have for her. This book made me feel like the author took as much trauma as they had seen in previous books and gave it all to one character. Sutton dealt with severe bullying, suicidal thoughts, traumatic murder and then even more harrowing bullying and then the actual secrets of her life. My heart should have been breaking for what she went through but I personally felt because every other page and chapter was Sutton repeating it all just didn’t make me feel the empathy and emotions I should have felt. I am someone who can break my heart at a good book and this had all the angst, tragedy and trauma that should have made me feel that way but every time Sutton repeated her past I grew annoyed and bearing in mind this is 5 books to have her repeat her past page after page and chapter after chapter it took away from how I should have felt about her. I felt more for Damon at times with her back and forth attitude and one second sleeping with him and then saying she still blamed him for everything. There were also many spelling errors and the sex scenes weren’t written well and did nothing to promote teenagers using protection. Sorry if you like this book I am only giving my honest opinion and my previous feedback to other authors is mainly 5 stars but I couldn’t lie about this, it’s only due to the fact I can’t start a book and not finish it that I read this as I’m not someone who can just stop once I have started.
>Book Review – Secret Bay High Bully Box Set >I am an independent reviewer. This box set contains all 5 books in the Secret Bay High series and ends in an HEA. The series revolves around a young girl, Sutton. She finds out she was adopted after her adopted parents were killed. Sent to live with a woman she doesn’t know and a boy who used to bully her, Sutton tries to understand all that is happening to her. Damon was Sutton’s bully. He is now her foster brother. Damon shows regret for bullying Sutton 5 years prior, but the book doesn’t address why he was still bullying her in the present. He told Sutton to come to a pool party in a dress so she would feel silly. If he was so sorry for bullying Sutton, why did he continue to do so? >There is a huge secret involving Damon, underground fighting and loan sharks. He eventually reveals that he had a drug problem “back in the day”, but is now over it and ready to be the man for Sutton. He was in 6th grade “back in the day”. How did such a serious drug problem happen at 13, so serious he had to fight for YEARS in order to pay back the loan sharks? We are only talking 5 years for the drug use to start, spiral out of control and then for Damon to get over his addiction, WITHOUT ANY HELP. >There is a mystery that is eventually solved, but Sutton’s constant internal monologues regarding all of her issues, problems and concerns really make the story drag. Each book also goes over the action again and again, to the point that the repetition causes the reader to skip paragraphs to get to something new. >This book is appropriate for a new adult (18+) audience. I am giving this book 3 stars. There are too many loose ends and plot points that didn’t make sense.
The premise of this series was interesting. But the story DRAAAAAGGED on endlessly. There was more focus on drama to extend the story over 6 books instead of a more put together shorter series. She left so many loopholes and questions it is ridiculous. I only kept reading to find out who the murderer was and even that wasn’t wrapped up well. The author clearly doesn’t understand technology today. And teenagers use technology like crazy so ignoring it or not using it was unrealistic. So much of the storyline was uneducated. But I gave the collection 2 stars because the plot had potential.
I love the story line in this book. I loved watching the relationship unfold. I was on the edge of my seat for most of the book. The characters go through so many ups and downs. Really amazing story. The only problem I had with this series was the rambling. She repeated herself more times than I can count. It was really hard to read in that respect. Which is why I gave the book 3 stars instead of four. Really good story...just needed a little less...repetition. If you can get past that then I recommend the series to anyone who like a good mystery.
I enjoyed reading this series. It was great to get them all together in the box set and be able to go from book to book. I enjoyed the characters and the premise of the story. It was a fun and entertaining read the whole time. It held my attention the entire way through and had some twists. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
I received the ARC from Bad Boy Update. What a great way to read this series! Now you don't have to wait for the next book or worry about buying all 6. This is the story of Sutton and Damon and the struggles they have. At times it seems that they have more drama, tension and surprises than any teen should have, but that just makes you want to keep reading.
The story had a lot of potential. I was really into it at first, but then it just dragged on. It was really repetitive to the point I skimmed a lot and still didn't miss anything. I felt like it could have been wrapped up in 1 book. The only reason I continued to read/skim was for answers from the first book.
An enjoyable box set of books with a good storyline and characters. The story starts with Sutton losing her parents and having to move in with Susan and the boy who tormented her in grade school Damon. The story is full of emotions, a bit of suspense and finally a happily ever after. Enjoy.
I could not finish this book. I really tried but couldn’t . The FMC mind is like the mind of a 6 year old. Just could not follow the thought process of anyone especially her , and why she did things .
