All her life, Jasmine has been groomed in Atlanta’s high society to be the perfect woman of wealth. Soon to be married off to Percy Hugo Milton to keep money circulating between black families, she realizes she’s stuck in a dead end relationship where he basically, “ain’t shit”. Money matters most, marriage is nothing but a business deal, and love is nonexistent in Percy’s eyes. Not to mention he finds her particularly boring, and uninspiring. Jasmine becomes desperate when she seeks the help of a spiritual guide. An eccentric witch named Delilah Skye who grants her three things she wants in life. Friendship, great sex, and true love. Yet, the reading doesn’t go as planned when Delilah informs Jasmine that everything she wants is hidden in the man she hates the most. Percy.
After a wild drunken night in Atlanta a few years ago with some girl he never planned on seeing again, Homer Skye thought he had life figured out. He had the plans laid out to propose to his long time girlfriend Nasia Stewart, move her into a house, and start his family immediately. The all american dream. That is, until he runs into his one night stand, Pia Milton, and their two year old daughter he knew nothing about.
With the Moon becoming full almost every night in Atlanta, things start to turn upside down as these two stories collide at the hands of black magic, family ties, and messy drama. Determined to find true love, Jasmine takes matters into her own hands by proposing a deal to her cheating fiancé. Pia has to come to terms with tolerating her child’s father, and the black magic that runs deep in his crazy family. While Homer struggles with the thought of this woman who lied about their daughter for two years, might just be the one he’s meant to be with all along.
Fine Print: This story contains a little magic, belief in the impossible, and a few other random things and people that make up the story. Might be some hood shit in here too, I don’t know. I say, just read it.
Just here to update this profile. I'm actually not 25 anymore but I'll be 30 next year haha. Still writing. Wow. Can't believe it. Current book I'm working on as I type this; Moon Child.
This was a very tough read. I had to push through for a ton of different reasons. I was lost in the beginning with the introduction of so many characters. I had no clue how they were linked, or even who was talking. Once I did get a handle on it I was halfway through. Homer is an AzzHole. His male chauvinism is so frustrating. Percy is such a jerk. There is no way to get around it. I feel sorry for him, but I also think he made his bed so now he must lay in it. Jasmine is boring. I have no idea how or where Tallulah came from. And how are you all of a sudden Jasmine best friend. She just popped up out of nowhere. Did I mention that Homer is an AzzHole? Yeah I did, but it bears repeating. The whole magic, witch, voodoo thing was kind of a mess. There was way to much going on. Pick one avenue and stick to it please author. I’m not sure if I’ll read book two. I want to find out what happens but I also don’t want to waste hours of reading and be frustrated again.
I was mad at Homer one minute and crushing on him the next. You always do that to me with your books...have my head spinning. I cried a few times but laughed most of all. Your writing was excellent and your storyline was refreshing as always. Very creative! Amazing job!
A Family dynamic and relationship dynamics in chaos. Hoodwinked follows two families interconnected through love, loss, and lineage. The start of this book lets you know root magic is heavily implemented in the story. As well as a hierarchy of alphas, and other deities. The least you know going into this book the better because each character will take you through a whirlwind of emotions, but in the end you will be rooting for them all. Every emotion I felt reading this book was at a 10. The characters and their decisions made me want to pull my damn hair out and the conversations made me want to slap everybody half the time. HOWEVER. Desiree really did her thing in bringing this entire story to life especially the characters. They felt like my own friends in the end. And the relationships were messy, but you will still find yourself being hopeful. Any author that can bring me outside of just feeling like I'm reading a book, but actually going through an entire experience in itself. Are truly top tier. I read this on kindle but immediately bought all 5 books in the series after finishing it because I couldn't get enough of their stories and where they were headed.
If you enjoy black excellence, black rich families, country boys and girls, legacy, magic, omega verse, messy drama, and characters that literally jump off the page this is the series for you.
Book was amazing . Other than all the characters being confusing at first , after doing a family tree , I was able to get it lol . I can’t stand Homer and his sisters , glad Jasmine is getting on with her life . & wish Pia stand up as a woman and put her foot down . Gosh she be pissing me off . Can’t wait to find out about Percy & what Michael meant when he said Homer sleeping with someone at the end.
The plot is really interest and holds you attention, and I love to read about poc in a fantasy setting and I’m looking forward to the next book, with that being said almost every character is unlikable at this point. With the exception of Jasmine, Indigo and Tallulah.
Jasmine is cool, I really haven’t gotten a feel for her yet. Though i did love how she handled the Percy and Nasia situation like a true Queen.
Nasia straight trash she had a man that love her and she cheated on him with her best friends fiancé. She literally left her own man to be a side chick and then when Jasmine comforted her she crying like the victim…. She def deserved the beat down she got.
Percy he spends so much time dogging Jasmine and complaining that she doesn’t like him or she doesn’t have anything to offer him but I never seen him once really put any effort into the relationship with Jasmine. And it’s one thing to be a cheater but to sleep with her once and only friend… yea he’s trash. I also think he’s a damn psycho like who sets there sister on fire.
Pia- i like her up until the point that she slept with Homer like he was nice to her for all of 5 mins and you gave up the booty and cheated on Dre. And the fact that you slept with him after he cursed your daughter to forget you….girl is dumb af
Homer- 1st red flag his name is Homer, 2nd he is a mamas boy ughh…..for someone that is suppose to be the alpha or whatever he is so damn immature. I would trust him to lead me down the street. He’s a big hypocrite and stay lying for no reason. And him putting that curse on his daughter was absolutely disgusting and unforgivable.
Delilah- i like her character for the plot but her as a person annoys the shit out of me. She like a puppet master. She’s constantly stirring up drama and it’s like it entertaining for her.
Tallulah and Indigo- i like them so far and the fact that Lu knew Jasmine for 5 mins and had her back with their whole Nasia and Percy situation. I was happy when she beat her ass.
I can’t stand any of Homers sisters they are annoying and just very unlikable. The whole family is so thirsty to get to spend time with Violet when this little girl doesn’t know any of y’all. Y’all haven’t given her any time to adjust or her mother.

This book could have been really good but there are far too many characters crammed into one book. Too many people and story lines to keep up with and too many flashbacks. I hate flashbacks. I don't care to know what happened in the past. In that case start the book off that way. That club chapter was way too long. I got bored with it. There was too much going on when Tallulah took Jasmine to work with her. I couldn't connect with the characters. I did not like homer or his sisters. Not sure if I'll read part two. This book has far too much going on.
So ummm no. This book was all over the place. Homer was not a likable character. And when you have a character that doesn’t seem redeemable it makes it a hard read. This book was all over the place. Hopping from one character to the next. I STRUGGLED to get through this book. Took me days to read and usually I can read a good book in a few hours. But because this book makes no sense I had to muddle through each chapter. I WON’T be reading part 2 since part 1 failed to pull me in.
Omg! I downloaded this book after another amazing author Natisha Raynor said she loved it!! I had to go get paper to write down the connections in this book! OMG!!! I wanna go read everything she’s written!! Loved it!
Mannnnnnnnn! This story was even more than I could have ever imagined it to be. Something about the Skye family draws me in and I love it. I can't wait to see everything play out. Desiree killed with this, like usual!
I just finished Hoodwinked last night and… whew. This book was wild—in the best way. It’s chaotic, dramatic, and all over the place, but somehow it works. I ended up finishing it in two nights because I genuinely couldn’t put it down. Every chapter had me like “Wait, what now??” and I was eating it up 😂.
This story gives messy, magical, and morally gray with a splash of “who can I even trust?” vibes. Usually, I’m not a fan of multiple POVs (too many voices can lose me), but in this case? The whiplash was part of the fun. You never really know who’s telling the full truth—and I loved that tension.
Now, I can’t say I have a favorite character yet because honestly? A lot of them are either jerks or just kinda there. But it’s a series, so I’m hoping someone wins me over in the next book. I’m locked in now, and I need to know how it all unfolds.
One note, though—Desiree’s writing often includes heavy topics, and that includes sexual abuse. It’s a recurring theme in some of her books, and while she handles it with care, it’s a topic I usually try to skip in my reading. But even that didn't stop my interest in this story. I had to know what happened next.
If you like twisty plots, bold Black storytelling, and a little bit of literary chaos that keeps you flipping pages, this one’s worth a read.
It’s giving Black soap opera meets magical realism with characters that feel like they could start an argument at Sunday dinner, then casually hex your ex on the way out. And while it is connected to Desiree’s larger universe (which I’m still trying to piece together like a conspiracy board 😅), you can read this one on its own and still get the drama fix you’re craving.
Final thoughts: 📚 Finished in 2 nights 😈 Nobody is safe, and I love that 🤯 Still trying to figure out what exactly just happened, but I’m into it 👀 Already eyeing book 2 because I need ANSWERS
Also it’s very cool to read from an author who I can tell is actually from around where I grew up (and basically have lived my whole life so far). It’s very rare for me to find books set in SC and now I found an author who writes fantasy books set here too. And on top of that my little boring ass hometown (Sumter) was mentioned. I’m lame asf but that had me smiling a whole lot.
Would I recommend it? Yes—but with a content warning for sexual abuse themes. If that’s something you’re sensitive to, just be aware that it does come up, even if briefly.
That said… this series feels like it’s about to spiral in the best way possible, and I’m definitely along for the ride.
What a mess. A good messy family drama. Ngl…the ending, Micheal putting that girl in the situation at the end was messed up and a bitch move. Now you gonna have to keep up because this story has a lot of players. Homer….idk if I love him or hate him. Percy, well..you deserved it. Nassia…whore, Pia, I wanna like you, but gurl. Delilah, I like you girl. Jasmine, get that D. I can’t wait for the next book.

It took me a little longer to get through this one but I enjoyed it. The fact that they were putting roots on everybody had me shook. You gotta be careful who you out in these streets with.
Homer 🙄 go sit down. Like sir… you didn’t even want that girl. His sisters were wild too, but Piaaaaaaa go HOME!!!
I’ll definitely be picking up the others in the series.
What a way to start a series!!! Can’t want to move on to the next book.
Following the author’s instructions on leaving my reviews 👀 this was an awesome read with so many moving parts!!! Feels like a 🎥 movie!! Great read👏🏽👍🏽!!!
I'd probably give the majority of this book 2 stars, and I'm still debating if it should be 2 or 3 because of that but it raised to 3 at the end.
There were a LOT of grammatical errors, and I'm not talking about the intentional ones or the slang.
This book was frustrating for the most part.
If you have a one night stand and the man tells the woman that if she gets pregnant he wants nothing to do with it and she has the money and needs to handle it herself... etc etc etc. Then years later when he finds out about the kid his family shouldn't beat her up and take his side even though it's his "seed".
A lot of the conversations were pretty repetitive which can be helpful but I didn't feel like it was so much in a lot of the cases.
Didn't care for most of the parts that showed the past, but they do come into play, so I get why they were included.
The main guy character is terrible 90% of the time and the majority of the book is about him and his baby mama fighting until all the sudden it almost seems like she's perfectly fine with him. Forgave him for all the crap he has done and continues to do. Sure, she says she doesn't, but her actions prove otherwise. I don't get the whole... "Omg, I hate you and you're a terrible person! And yet, I can't deny sleeping with you!" Like, what? No, that's not how it works.
Really.. writing this review made me put it back down to 2 stars. It was extremely frustrating to read. I can't understand why anyone could ever 100% agree with his side. Like sure, I get that she should have probably told him regardless, but I get why she didn't and would be on her side.
Anyway. The end got really interesting. Like the last 10%. I almost quit reading the book at some points, but I was curious to see what happened.
I'm fine with cliffhangers, but if you don't like them... There's definitely one at the end.
Also.. There were some kind of racists parts of this book, so there's that...
I could not put this book down! This was my first book by Desiree; her imagination is one of the most vivid and evocative I've read in a long time. This story and these characters gave me heart palpitations and shot my blood pressure to the moon! There are two different relationship sagas that unfold throughout the story. Neither couple can stand each other but according to a root worker, they're exactly what the other person needs and are meant to be together. Mounting issues between the couples and insufferable, meddling family members make a happily ever seem impossible. The fantasy and magical elements in this book are more believable than the things these couples are supposed to overcome in order to be together because the things they put each other through is egregious! The drama in this book is unbelievable yet very believable because we all know someone like the characters in this book. These characters are so real and relatable, especially in their lowest, pettiest, and most awful moments. I you like fantasy and urban romance with messy family dynamics, then this is for you. 10 out of 10, would definitely recommend!
Desiree did it again with the start of a new series in this book. Let me just say that I truly do have a special place in my heart for Percy. Even though he is a mess I think I love that mess. Desiree has the talent that draws the reader into the world of the characters that you as the reader feel like you are walking through the Underground with them for example. Which I would have thought would be difficult for me to appreciate due to this book had themes that I normally would avoid in my reading choices. 5 Stars
Edit due to release of Audible: The Narrator Almost Ruined the Story I read this book prior to the purchase of the audio book and truly enjoyed it. 5 stars for the story itself however the narrator pronunciation of words took me completely out of the story instead of enhancing. In parts it felt like it was the first read through on the recording instead of a performance of the words. Very disappointing. I hope the author produces more audio books but with more focus on the quality and performance of the book. 2 Stars due to performance
Violently attacking a mother in front of her two year old child 0/10 Putting roots on an innocent child to have your way? 0/10 I wanted to love this book but now I feel like it was just a bunch of hoodoo paranormal drama/filth that rubbed me the wrong way from the jump. The relationships made me vomit. I hated Percy. I despised Homer. He and his sisters constantly disrespected Pia and antagonized her not to mentioned failed as a new father when given the opportunity to spend time with his daughter. He only wanted to show the baby off to his family, but it was constantly portrayed as if Pia was the one in the wrong. If a man tells me to “take care of it” after telling him I’m pregnant, I would do exactly the same thing she did. No man deserves space in a child’s life he doesn’t want. This pushed some hard boundaries for me. As much as I appreciate Granger’s writing style, this one was a HARD pass. I’ve never read a book and been disgusted with the characters all the way through it.
I waited on this book to drop, but when I purchased it. I didn’t jump right into it. It is a fact that this author will send you on an emotional roller coast of emotions. ( you will root for the bad guy and down right hate the good guy) The works play and hidden key words will make go back and reread entire pages because there hidden messages in between ) The saying is true read between the lines. This book lives up to his name, I don’t want to give to much away. I hate when I read reviews and they spoil it.. all I can say , wow great read
I have waited for tis story with baited breath. All I can say is I wasn't disappointed. Growing up in the South f heard stories about people of the moon. last word WOW
Desiree Granger’s Hoodwinked is a breathtaking, drama-filled story that had me hooked from the very first page. Granger’s world-building is extraordinary—it’s like watching a movie unfold on paper. Her writing pulled me into every scene so vividly that I even dreamed about the characters and moments after putting the book down. This first installment of the Moon Run Series masterfully combines magic, family drama, messy relationships, and loyalty, all while keeping readers guessing about what’s coming next.
The story revolves around Jasmine, a woman stuck in a loveless engagement, and Homer, a man grappling with his past mistakes and present responsibilities. Their lives, and the chaos surrounding them, collide in unexpected ways thanks to black magic, family ties, and some downright messy drama. Jasmine’s ride-or-die friends, like Tullulah and Indigo, steal the show with their bold loyalty and willingness to go to war for their own. At the same time, Homer’s arrogant demeanor and questionable decisions make him a fascinating and infuriating character to follow. The Skye family’s dynamic—protecting their pack at all costs—is as captivating as it is complex.
I found myself laughing, crying, and wanting to jump into the pages to strangle some of these wild characters. Granger’s ability to create layered, relatable, and infuriating personalities makes the story even more engaging. While the many characters and their interconnected relationships can feel overwhelming at times, I recommend creating a family tree or chart to help keep track. It’s worth it because the payoff is incredible. Additionally, this will also help ground you in your reading journey.
This book was such an enjoyable ride that I’m already itching to dive into the next installment. If Hoodwinked is any indication, the Moon Run Series is bound to be an unforgettable journey. Desiree Granger is now on my list of favorite authors, and I can’t wait to see what’s next. Highly recommended for anyone who loves drama, magic, and stories about fiercely loyal families.
I waited for this series to get finished before I started reading it. I had plans to start it last year but put it off due to laziness. I'm glad I finally jumped back into Desiree's world.
This book should've been called Doing Too Much because that's exactly what everybody was doing in this book. Too damn much. They should've been doing less. Could've avoided a lot of drama that way.
I missed these crazy, toxic dysfunctional ass characters. The Skye family is a mess as usual. The way these characters had my nerves bad the whole book. Pia and Homer both need to grow up and put Violet first.
I still don't like Delilah because she likes to pretend she's above the BS but she's not. She's single handedly responsible for all the mess that happened in this book and that's going to play out in the other books. She interferes in others life trying to play God but then hids her hand when shit hits the fan.
I have no words for how much of a hot mess Jasmine and Percy are. I don't know how Desiree is going to pull off making them fall in love but I'm here for the ride chile.
Somehow in a family full of toxic and dysfunctional people who don't know what boundaries are, Michael and Neveah are the only sane Skyes. I don't blame them for not wanting to be bothered with their family. They are truly toxic and in desperate need of therapy.
This book read like one long episode of Love and Hip-hop. We had drama(oh the drama) toxic relationships(familial and romantic), dysfunctional characters and hilarious moments. I was here for it all. I've been reading from this author since 2018 so I'm very familiar with her writing style. This story was entertaining as hell. These characters are so flawed and throwed off it's truly hilarious. One thing about Desiree, she's going to pen a drama filled entertaining story. There were grammatical issues but outside of that I was glad to be immersed back into the world of the hot mess Skyes, Freemans and Carters.
What a great story! It was long, but it's one of the many things I like about a story, especially when there is something constantly going on that holds one attention. I felt like the men in the story was all different in a way, but also have similarities that you can't really missed.
Though, some people may feel it was hard to follow because of so many people being introduced, and the many point of views, I tend to feel that it works for me somewhat. You get to know what the characters are thinking and feeling, and what they're plans are, which doesn't come out at once. I like that things are spread out and not being thrown at once about what a particular character is doing and/or with whom.
As far as with the back story, I wasn't feeling it at first because I felt it took a little away from the story, but then as the story progressed, I saw it was needed. You get the whys and the who's in situations that may have left you pondering the whats, but it came together. I suppose to understand the here and now, you have to learn the past.
The story had me laughing at some parts, mad, and sad. There were times I had to put the book down and was like, "why did she said that to him?" And laughed. And, "what is wrong with this guy, is he bipolar, or what?" And get angry.
I have to admit, I'm intrigued and this is my first novel by the author and I can't wait to read Moon Child to find out what's going to happen next.
And did I mentioned some of these characters remind me of the people from my home state, South Carolina. The author really captured the characters well. It was just so many to keep up with. Lol.
This book was amazing. I was enthralled from cover to cover. I cannot wait to continue the series. Unfortunately, it was one of the hardest reads of 2025 the narrator Jada A. For Audible was terrible. Ordinarily I wouldn’t be this transparent in a review. I want others to have the option that I did nothave. I’m a mail carrier and I often alternate between audiobooks podcast and music while I work so I had no other option for this book. I had to listen to the audible . I thought to myself how did this person get an opportunity to convey such a wonderful book through her words and do such a terrible job the mispronunciation of countless words Ing and character names were absolutely terrible. The reading had no emotion and was remedial at best. Don’t drag me if you know this person I had to say it the narration for this book was Abysmal and if you have the opportunity to just read it on your Kindle, then please save yourself the headache and do so because it’s a wonderful story and you don’t want the difficulty of listening to it because of poor portrayal. . I don’t know if I have a favorite character in this book. I am happy to see the growth of some of the characters and my jaw is on the floor because of the actions of others.I can’t wait to see what happens next. Wonderful first book to the series but I don’t want to hear ANYTHING (Jada A ) has to say, it would’ve cost nothing to do a final listen to that book. If I were the narrator, I would want my voice to be something sought after in that particular line of work not something the audience dreads. I’m sorry audible but I want my credit back.
This was my first read of 2025 and I'm not sure what to think. I went into this book expecting a lot of magic which wasn't the case. I love multiple POVs but I didn't like the fact that after the events to Masia, We didn't get to see how she felt in the end. Homer is the strangest main male character ever. I could start with how he wanted to spend time with his child soo much but just had to go out on his first weekend with his kids or this whole revenge plot over his ex in the end. He isn't stable or mature enough for me. I feel Pia's character development will be my favorite due to all her trauma. She seems to forgive and forget too fast for my taste. Jasmine is a huge question mark. Overall, it was a good way to introduce her to a group of girls who are befriending some insane magical sisters. I cant wait to just see how everything comes together. I did enjoy the moon run explanation. For some reason, I wanted Percy to accidentally have to do the Moon Run so that whatever demon is part of the run could attack him into the truth of his self. Jasmine was wayyy too calm after finding out about Perry and Nasia.
