A start I'm not sure if I can get behind.
Do you know that feeling, that mental click in your brain that lets you know you've stumbled on to a world you can lose yourself in, that roaring in your blood urging you to turn the page... well, that feeling lay dormant for this book.
It wasn't the characters, or the world because, by themselves, I found that they could have been interesting enough to satisfy my craving for otherworldly interdimensional romance with a not-so-human male lead that had my hands itching to slide against scales. No, that wasn't the issue at all.
The issue was the writing. The dialogue and wording of some of the descriptions felt like they were purposefully written to sound more "relatable" (By the gods and goddesses I hate that word) and it just made them feel ick.
The beginning of the book was like trudging through mud, and when it finally started to pick, about 40% of the way in, it felt rushed and unfulfilling.
The potential for romance was there and I could see sparks of Tark and Anna's bond, however they were strangers by the end of the story. I get the fated mate pull, I love the fated mate pull, but there still needs to be more.
The physical characteristics of the Drixonians were still captivating and worth the mention. I love the way the author incorporated a natural defense system in thier genetic makeup. Very fun and vicious.
This book is a hot debate in my mind, I'm not sure if I'll continue the series, and if I do the next book will be a make or break for me.
