Her Highlander’s Promise

Rate this book
Dreaming of her kept him alive, but her presence was his ruin...
Aithe MacGille lost everything when he decided to abandon the safety of his home. The years of imprisonment and slavery in the coal mines would have killed him if it wasn't for the charming tales of Alice, the sister of his dying friend Christopher, that kept him from falling to despair. After Aithe escapes, he has one more mission, to honor Christopher's dying wish and protect the lass at all costs.

Alice has no hope of escaping the claws of her abusive uncle, until a handsome Highlander steps into her life, claiming that he knew her dead brother. The strange man comes with an offer she might not be able to refuse. Can she accept the chance at freedom that he offers her, even if it means putting both their lives in danger?

Now Aithe must deliver her to safety even if it means facing the demons of his past and the family he left behind…

His duty was to give her his name, his longing was to give her his heart…

This is the story of Aithe and Alice, a man imprisoned with Alice’s brother Christopher, and Aithe’s promise to care for Alice after Christopher’s death. Both Christopher and Alice lost their parents at a young age and became the wards of their terrible Uncle Felix, who resents the money it takes to care for his wards and is brutal to them both.

Aithe and Christopher are imprisoned for their part as Jacobites in the war between Scotland and England. When captures, they are forced into the mines to work off their sentence. The only thing that keeps them grounded is Christopher’s stories about his sister, Alice. Aithe makes a promise to Christopher that he will take care of Alice if anything happens to Christopher.

After a mine explosion, Christopher loses his life, and Aithe makes a resolution to find Lady Alice to bring her the news of her brother’s death, but to also offer her his protection. Uncle Felixmis determined to marry Alice off to an old Earl of Sussex, but Alice is simply being used as a pawn to get information back to Uncle Felix, as he is business partners with the Earl. Aithe devises a plan to rescue Alice from this situation and offers to marry her to protect her. When the escape to Scotland and are married, Uncle Felix shows up and almost kills Aithe, while kidnapping his niece and returning her to his home in England.

What follows is a year of torment, I,prison, ent, and a rescue that,Aithe pulls, off,to,prevent Alice from becoming the wife of the Earl of Sussex. There is so much danger they must face before they find safety, but they also have to face the feelings they have developed for one another.

If you are looking for a page turning story this is it. If you are looking for more action and scary adventure than this is it. What an emotional roller coaster ride this was. There was sadness, danger, death, suspicion, the quest for freedom of imprisonment and familial slavery. This story chronicles the life of the H and h before they met and after they met. I loved the h and H immediately. The H was honorable, kind, thoughtful and noble. The h was facing an arranged marriage when the H came to rescue her because of a promise he made to his dying best friend who was her brother. There was so much tension filled dangerous adventure the H and h faced. The h faced it all. She was brave and never made a complaint. Her uncle was on the hunt for her and they had to travel by foot through the forests so they would not be detected. At one point they were separated. While the h thought the H was dead, he was not. He had been sold into slavery. He escaped and again went after the h. On their journey the H became deathly ill and could not travel. The h braved the rest of the way to his home by foot to find his father and get help. What bravery, what love to face the danger of the unknown, to fight for love was admirable. When the H recovered, her uncle made one last attempt to recover her. But the H, his father and their men scared him off. Eventually, he remarried the h the Scottish way. Her life was all the H promised. I loved the extended epilogue. It really was the icing on the cake. This is a must read. You will not be disappointed.

ONE UNPARALLELED EXPERIENCE!!!
Incomparable! Fiona has absolutely knocked me clean off my feet with this spectacular, mind-blowing, prize winning, page flipping wonder. Seizing the reigns, weaving a cocoon so intricately and tight, drawing you deeper into this tangled web, until everything else ceases to exist. A raging tempest of inexplicable circumstances and harrowing events, thrusts those churning emotions into play front and center, fusing this baby together piece by piece seamlessly. Determination and drive for a new course thrusts this bad boy into the eye of the storm, blasting it into a tailspin with an unbelievable culmination. Add distress, turmoil, abuse, drama, intrigue and spiraling suspense along with unexpected situations and a boatload of danger, while dodging nefarious intentions, propels this little fella to life spectacularly. The chemistry and attraction builds as each layer is peeled back exposing an undeniable connection and amplifying affections, binding them to one another perfectly. The characters are authentic and original with qualities and traits that blend into amazing personalities. The scenes are so colorfully descriptive to give you a full understanding and realism that balance and flows smoothly. Remarkable job Fiona, thanks for sharing this little fella with us.

Her Highlander's Promise is a fast paced ride through the Highlands with adventure and danger! Fiona Faris has outdone herself with this story, she has given readers a book that is well-written, heart warming cast of characters, a strong plot and feelings swirls through you as you read about Aithe and Alice. Aithe a brawny highlander spends years imprisoned in a coal mine only wants one thing when he is released, to keep a dying wish made to his friend to take care of his sister Alice and protect her. Alice a young lass living with her abusive uncle can't wait for her brother to return and rescue her from their uncle and a forced marriage. When Alice meets Aithe and learns of her brothers dying wish she agrees to run away with him and get married. A delicious passionate heart pounding story full of turmoil, steamy passion, plenty of drama, kidnapping, deceit, tears, trials and tribulations, while the suspense builds, tensions escalate and all twist and turns abound that makes for one outstanding story!

Fiona Faris is quickly becoming my go-to author for anything Highlander! She has once more taken us back to the days of the conflict between the Scotts and the English and where Aithe has been captured by the English and sentenced to hard labor in a mine. There he meets a fellow prisoner and promises to look after the man's sister should the man not survive. We then fast-forward to when Aithe is no longer a prisoner and goes to fulfill the promise he had made. That is when he meets Alice and what had felt like an obligation turns out to be his greatest joy. Of course, this wouldn't be a Fiona Faris book without other trials and conflicts emerging to prevent the couple from getting the HEA they want so much, so be prepared to get completely wrapped up in this story to the detriment of everything else in your life until you reach the last page!

Sad lessons learned.

Aithe MaGille is the eldest son and heir of clan MacGille. He wanted adventure, not the responsibilities of being a laird so he left his family in the night with no word. Unfortunately his life did not turn out as he planned. Years in the mines changed him. His friend Christopher was his only friend in the mines and his stories of his sister Alice kept them both going. When Christopher was killed in the mine Aithe swore to take care of his Alice and make sure she is safe. Alice was living with her cruel uncle who only saw her as property to do with as he pleased. Alice and Aithe had a sad journey and many obstacles to overcome. I enjoyed the story and the characters. I found myself hoping many times that this couple could catch a break. Sad but a good HEA.

Aithe, son of Gavin and Amelia MacGille, has left his home at Cadney Lake to find his place in the world. Fighting for the Jacobite cause had landed Aithe as a prisoner working in the coal mines. There he had befriended Christopher Winterborne who became like a brother to him. Christopher’s stories of his sister Alice was what kept them both alive for four years. In a tragic twist of fate Aithe was left to find Alice on his own. Finding Alice and rescuing her from her fate was what kept Aithe alive when he was once again captured and sold into slavery. Can he make it out of the mines once again and save Alice or has she been “sold” once again to the man her uncle had betrothed her to originally? Thank you Fiona for continuing Aithe’s story!

Home

It was a touching story of finding your way home while also emphasizing the beauty of family. Aithe is truly an honorable man whose strength of character, not to mention physical prowess, I have come to admire. Alice, as delicate as she may seem, proved to be built of the same elk as Aithe. With all that she’d been through, I couldn’t fathom where she could gather the courage to do the things she did while enduring endlessly. Christopher, although I grieve for his loss, his presence was felt throughout the story. He was an amazing brother. As for the clan at Cadley, they bring out the best of the Scottish culture. It’s amazing to read more about them!

How would you feel if you were told your beloved brother had died and that you were to be betrothed to a man you had never met, all so your Uncle could recover what he called the cost of rearing you? Alice was devastated, she had no chance to mourn her brother, she was to meet her betrothed in a week. She cannot run away she can only bear it. Into this disaster steps Aithe, a burly highlander who knew her brother. He had made a promise to look after her, he proposes a marriage of convenience and an offer of a life away from her Uncle. She grabs the opportunity and their adventure begins. Grab a copy and lose yourself in a fabulous book. Highly recommended.

Although I liked both characters and didn't have any particular problems with either one, per say...this story just wasn't as compelling as the others.

Not to mention, the massive time jump took a minute to get used to, even if I liked the idea of focusing on the next generation. But now I see the 5th book is going back to the late 1600's and focusing on Tristan, which means we're going back in time again? Seems odd to jump around like that.

All in all, I'd say this one is amongst the weaker in the series.

Aithe made a promise to Christopher both working in the mines that if anything happened to take care of his sister Alice. Aithe made good on his promise but a journey that lead to twist and turns; an uncle that wanted Alice for his pawn. He neglected her was cruel and treated her not like a human. Through the journey of escaping they had down falls and always rose from it. In the end they both got the HEA. A must read for a Scottish tale.

I voluntarily read and reviewed this ARC.

Mines

This was a very good book written by Fiona Faris and I really enjoyed reading it. A young woman, a brother, a young man, mines, stories, a death, promises and responsibilities, an unwanted engagement, rescued, marriage, taken, the mine, mourning, another rescue, finding love and a happy ever after? I would recommend this book to everyone. Buy the book and enjoy reading it.

Promise made..promise kept! A Highlander’s honor!

I really enjoyed this book. The struggles this couple had to go through, to eventually find their happiness together. My only disappointment was having read the extended epilogue in the 3rd book, which somewhat gave away the
ending of this book, but not enough that it detracted from the final ending. I would definitely recommend reading the first three in the series before this final book.

ADVERSITYS’ LOVE STORY

Alice and Aithe have both experienced the pain associated with deception and greed…Each within there own circumstances have been isolated and imprisoned! Their journey together to Cadney is a transitional time for both of them!
Emotionally and physically challenged both Alice and Aithe forge ahead searching for freedom and a new life! I loved the amazing depths of emotion that are an intricate part of this story !
This is my honest opinion!

What an emotionally charged read. With so many different up's and downs for the 2 of them, I really wondered how it would resolve itself. The last few chapters even had me in tears at different times due to the mixed emotions the story created. I also read it from start to finish in one sitting the first night I downloaded it

Fiona Faris is amazing. I received an ARC of "Her Highlander's Promise" from the author. This is Aithe and Alice's love story. To escape her wicked uncle, they enter a marriage of convenience, but the aches and pains and devastation that follows is heart wrenching. On their troubled journey, they learn just how capable they are as well as the depth of their strength and conviction.

I enjoyed reading your book, but found some places hard to follow do to grammatical errors. The storyline was tragic that Aithe and Alice had to go through so much and through so many obstacles, but it was well written. I thought her uncle was a big fat jerk and needed to be smacked around 😊 I am looking forward to your next book. 😊😊

Reads well, minor plot holes

This book was a very good story, but I found that the plot jumped around quite a bit where it concerns time. There was constant and inconsistent reference to how long it had been since certain events passed...found this a little confusing. Over all, this was an enjoyable read!

Jumbled

Nice story but I was often jarred by the author's mix of historical and modern. In the 1700's you would not "run a bath" , you would have servants running stairs with buckets. Also some of the concepts seemed very modern. It was not what I was looking for in a Scottish historical romance.

An amazing English/Highlander story! Alice and her brother are close but he leaves to fight the Jacobite cause. Aithe meets Christopher in the mines and Alice and agrees if anything happens to look out for her. A cruel uncle has a plan for Alice. A non stop read that is touching with many surprises that keeps your attention.

Fiona has done it again...

This began as such a sad story. You always hope that the good guys have a happily ever after. Alice grew throughout this book to find her strength and fight for her love. I don't want to give too much away. I will say that this is a good series and I'm sad that it's only 4 books.

A fantastic and suspenseful historical romance!

I could barely put these books down. My great-grandfather was from Scotland so I leave reading stories with the Scottish brogue mixed in. The suspense and worry I felt for the two main characters was off the chain. They truly went thru he'll to have their HEA.

Exciting story!

this is a really good read. It's exciting. It's suspenseful. Love how the relationship grows over time. These characters depict wonderful people.....except for the uncle, of course, who is a good villian!

It was okay but many times boring, repetitious, and contrived. I liked others better.

Thoughts were repeated over and over, and then again a few paragraphs later. Many I had to skim over until I reached something new.
