This is a high-quality cookbook (and I've used a lot of cookbooks). The whole family wants to try their hand at the recipes. We've tried one so far--the Risotto with Sausage, Winter Squash, Kale, & Rosemary (p. 619), which was wonderful and perfect for Autumn. The pictures are abundant (almost every recipe) and staged with interesting and beautiful serving ware that makes me excited to have dinner parties or something. It's a hefty hardback with heavy enough paper to stay open, so not being spiral bound is not really a problem for us, and it works fine in our book-holder. I love vegetables and I was glad to find this cookbook that features them and even has a section in the front where you can learn about many individual vegetables.
The Table of Contents says there's an appendix, but it's a few appendices... Canning 101, Desserts, Stocks, Pastas, Dumpling Wrappers, Staples & Condiments (tortillas, salsas, hot sauce, etc.), Techniques, and Conversion Chart.
Call me a food nerd, but I loved every page if this book. I'm excited to try more of the recipes, the ones I've tried already were delicious. She writes about the whole process of a variety of vegetables from how it grows to ways to cook it. This is a very farm to table cookbook and will be an invaluable resource for me from now on.
