I was hoping, being sci-fi, for some intense creature descriptions and really clear pictures of this new world. Unfortunately, I felt the author did a lot more telling than showing.
On that note, most of the story was written in dialogue and not in description of the surroundings or plot. I understand what she was trying to convey; growing relationships between characters and that , even in the face of difficulties, it’s essential to band together and face the world. However, I found the dialogue to be completely unrealistic and awkward. It felt staged, like friends don’t really speak to one another like that.
The best part of the book was showing how a community can come together in an adverse situation and really make a difference in their outcome. She also created a very unique villain and the story was filled with plot twists that I didn’t see coming.
Some things I think would have drastically improved this read would be to give the characters more body and background, and to make their dialogue and conversations more realistic. This would be good for fans of science fiction, aliens and superhero powers.
Yes this is a good book and I would recommend N.B.Blackbell as a story teller. I purchased this book a few days ago and enjoyed every minute of it.I found it hard to put down. It’s not a fast paced book but the introduction books never are. I would highly recommend reading this book if you enjoy, science fiction, urban fantasy or mystery. I got to know the characters and how it all began, it will make it easier to follow future sequels without having to go back to check. I rate this book 5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Brilliant. Got totally wrapped up on Jaspers world. The writing style is such that I saw the movie playing in my head as I read. I could totally empathise with the characters and enjoyed it so much I have since read again. There is great imagery, the feelings and emotions are described as such that you feel them as you read. A great book.
This book is an excellent read, I highly recommend it. It is part of a series, characters are well defined, and the description is vivid. I found it hard to put down once I got into the story and can’t wait for the sequel.
