I've got two choices. Join the Undercover Protectorate. Or die.
In a world of controlled magic, I’m an Unknown. Deadly power, little control. I’m only alive because I pay a Blood Sorcerer to keep me hidden. But when he comes to collect on the debt I can’t pay, one of his goons slams me with a deadly curse. Suddenly, I’m out of options and out of time.
When I’m given a rare chance to join the elite Undercover Protectorate and train at their academy to become an investigator, I have a way to hunt the cure for the curse. They have resources I don’t. Easy, since I’m broke.
Seems like a good plan, right? At least, until they tell me Cade will be joining me on my hunt for the Blood Sorcerer. He's an actual Celtic war god--and the hottest guy I’ve ever seen. The catch? I can’t let him know that I’m an Unknown, or I’m out on my ass and deader than Hades.

Before becoming a writer, Linsey was an archaeologist who studied shipwrecks in all kinds of water, from the tropics to muddy rivers (and she has a distinct preference for one over the other). After a decade of tromping around in search of old bits of stuff, she settled down to start penning her own adventure novels and is freaking delighted that people seem to like them. Since life is better with a little (or a lot of) magic, she writes urban fantasy and paranormal romance.

I loved this series Great world building and wonderful characters I loved the ghost dogs lol
Loved these books and so pleased it's now been released as a set, didn't want to stop reading. As with all Lindsey's books it's well written and has you engaged the whole way through.
Wow what a ride! It starts out with Bree bumbling powers if she doesn't get them aligned that can tear her apart
Bree has to find a way to get her powers and to go to the valkyrie headquarters to do that. Her and Kate are instructed to go there by going back into the Seers cave with the stones given to her by them. They have to activate the magic in order to make it to the valkyrie Kingdom. That's how this adventure starts out and it only gets more harrowing from there. They have to travel up the tree of life through all the different realms which are horrifying and difficult to maneuver. They finally reached the valkyrie realm and Bree has to go through tests to initially get her wings which are very painful to use until she is victorious in the major battle. She has to pick the battle and who she's willing to be victorious over. She chooses the rebellious gods and the Valkyries agree with her that is the best test. Bree wants to rescue her sister Ramona from the back from the evil God who has kidnapped her. They have to find his temporary realm become captured, and fight in the games to win their freedom to do this. They get help from another inmate Maria who has knowledge of the evils God location and where he keeps Ramona. Now can they rescue her and free all the slaves?
Listened to this on Audible. Narrator does a great job! Like the tone of her voice, and she does a good job doing different voices. A good listen! Also, I love that this set has all 5 full books of this series!
I wrote reviews for each book on Amazon and Goodreads, but that would be a very long review if I added them here, so I’ll just keep it short.
Really entertained by this whole series! Lots of kick booty action, cool magical elements, and fun, quirky characters! Plus, tons of adventure! Lacks in the emotional depth and romance department, but still love these books! Excited for the next series!
This was a must read. Especially having met the character in another series. I loved all the Norse mythology used in this series, I love this author, because there is more story line then sex. So if u can dig it, come hang with bree and meet her man meat cade.
If you want a wild series to read this could be it. They are fast past and keep the pages turning. They can get a little bit blood and guts but got to kind of excepted that when fighting for your life and everything you love right?
I absolutely adored this. The characters were great. I loved the new characters and seeing some of the old ones. This was just fantastic. It kept me intrigued the entire way through. Can't wait to start the next one!!!
I really enjoyed this series. Painted a lovely picture of all the fantastical places they visited. An easy to read set of book with concepts explains concisely. It was a fun journey to follow.
Loved learning more about these interesting characters from the other series that Lindsey has written!!! Loved it!! Great addition to the dragon gift series.
Another wonderful adventure. Such an amazing experience of the supernatural word Linsey has created. So many things to compliment how could I fit it all in here.
I have submitted reviews for the titles contained within this set box after listening to the audiobook of this title. (Audible. com) These reviews can be found on the individual title's pages.
If you’ve enjoyed the previous Dragon’s Gift books by Linsey Hall it’s certain that you’ll enjoy The Valkyrie Series too. I must give the author credit. All her stories follow the same story arc. Young woman with magical gifts is prophesized to become more powerful and take on a great challenge to save the world. She allies herself with extremely powerful and attractive male magical who helps her complete multiple challenges to achieve her ultimate destiny. Despite that she puts a unique spin on each main character, their personalities and their challenges to keep the stories from getting old even if the ultimate outcome is predictable. In this story the main female character is Bree Blackwood. We first met Bree and her fraternal twin sister Anna in the Protector Series where they helped Phoenix defeat her nemesis and complete her destiny. I’m happy to report that the author included the Triumvirate in important ways along with their significant others and a couple of blood sorceresses and other characters from the earlier series in this series. This book picks up five years after the final battle in the Protector series. Bree and Anna are in hiding in Death Valley Junction from an unknown enemy who killed their mother and they believe abducted their sister Rowan. All the money they earn transporting criminals across Death Valley to a secret hide-away has gone to paying a shady blood sorcerer for a concealment charm and to try and locate Rowan. Because of the money they have spent trying to find Rowan they are behind in their payments to the blood sorcerer. As the book opens he has sent a squad of goons to bring in or kill Bree and Anna and they are under attack at their ramshackle dump of a home. Enter our male lead Cade, an Irish War God and a few of his assistants who take out the sorcerer’s henchmen. Under protest they spirit Bree and Anna away to a castle in Northern Scotland which is the headquarters of the Protectorate, a magical organization dedicated to helping protect magical beings from evil. Bree and Anna have been observed by the leaders of the Protectorate and are offered positions as trainees in the organization. They are conflicted because other than the Triumvirate, (whom they haven’t kept in contact with since the final battle against Drakon) they have never been able to trust anyone and have constantly lived in fear of being found by the people who killed their mother. It’s always been just the sisters against the world. So they have serious trust issues. Besides that their main focus continues to be on finding Rowan. Before being taken out by Cade and his people the sorcerer’s henchmen had hit Bree and Anna with a poison potion that will kill them within a week if they don’t get the antidote from him. As it turns out the Protectorate is as anxious to find the evil sorcerer as the girls are. They agree to stay at the Protectorate and work with them for a temporary trial period. Bree as we learned in the Protector series has an incredibly powerful sonic boom power that can level buildings. But of late it has become undependable and uncontrollable. At the same time she suddenly starts to develop new powers as her old power disappears. To find a cure for the poison and accomplish many other goals and overcome challenges and achieve her destiny of defeating great evil that threatens the world, Bree teams up with Cade. Along the way the meet every mythical Norse god and creature ever written. Cass, Del and Phoenix show up often to lend emotional support and firepower to help Bree win the big battles. In doing so they help the girls get over their trust issues and value close friendships. This was just a fun series with lots of magical action from start to finish, a lot of Norse mythology and just a touch of romance. And a very cute and helpful ghost pug.
The Valkyrie is another great page turner set of books. I love the way the sisters and friends band together during quests in learning about the Greek Gods and mythology to obtaining their magical powers to destroy those that are stalking them
This is a wonderful YA Urban Fantasy set. This is the story of Bree previously introduced as a badass buggy babe in the real Death Valley. My personal schedule allowed me to read the first two stories as well as the fifth, through in a single sitting as they were that good. The third and fourth were also that good, but my schedule didn't allow the single sitting approach.
It was great to visit with Nix, Cass, Del, Ares, Aidan, and Roarke plus other old friends from Magic's Bend.
Undercover Magic (Dragon's Gift: The Valkyrie Book 1) Seemed like a wonderful start of another great overarching theme.
Academy of Magic (Dragon's Gift: The Valkyrie Book 2) I loved Cade's straightman humor. Bree's schoolgirl crush on Cade was delightful. The sexual tension between them is crazy serious.
Pursuit of Magic (Dragon's Gift: The Valkyrie Book 3) I was easily excited and awed at seeing the many of the sights (people, pets, plants, places, and phenomena) that she visited. Cade continued to be stoic and enigmatic. But Bree was slowly loosening up both him and herself.
Attack by Magic (Dragon's Gift: The Valkyrie Book 4) Bree and Cade made an amazing team (soon to become a couple, I hoped). The Rebel Gods wanted to destroy the DragonGods. Hence, the DragonGods had no choice but to fight back. Doing the nearly impossible was simply to be expected.
Master of Magic (Dragon's Gift: The Valkyrie Book 5) Fabulous wrap up of Bree's advancement. Cade was also cool. I looked forward to the stories which I hoped will follow: Ana's and Rowan's.
I enjoyed the story line very much. Valkyrie and Viking subjects are a favorite of mine. I did find all 5 books had less fighting or action, but there was a lot of description of the land, trees, mountains, building etc. At times this took away from the story. I enjoyed the ending, knowing Bree, survived her tremendous ordeal. Kathy Barber Doyle 7/25/2019
Bree as the Valkyrie is awesome Taking risks, using her new Magic’s to determine or guess the right solutions to her various challenges Very entertaining and very fun to read Each woman seems to get a man and best of all she retains herself Wonderful!
