Hannah Hickok #2

A Fistful of Demons

Rate this book
Hannah Hickok is slipping into her new life as owner of Casper Creek – a cosplay western town – and newly-minted witch. She thinks she has everything under control … until demons come calling.
At first, she’s not even certain what she’s dealing with. A freak accident claims the life of a father, leaving him exposed during a sudden sandstorm, and his son’s reaction (complete with glowing red eyes) leaves a lot to be desired.
Cooper Wyatt, head of security for the resort, wants to believe her when she explains what she saw but it’s not exactly easy for him. As the evidence starts to mount, though, demon possession becomes the name of the game.
As a new witch, Hannah has no idea what she’s supposed to do. That doesn’t stop her from wanting to be proactive. Unfortunately for her, the emergence of new powers – coupled with the realization that something beyond a simple demon possession is going on – quickly becomes overwhelming.
The workers at Casper Creek are going to have to join together – maybe even enlist some outside help – to figure out all the answers and solve the ultimate dilemma.
A young boy’s life hangs in the balance and Hannah is determined to make sure she doesn’t lose an innocent soul so early in her reign as Casper Creek’s head witch. All she has to do is survive until the end and then everything will be revealed.
That’s easier said than done.

Enjoyed this one!

I really loved this one but I must note you could be triggered if the thought of animals getting hurt effect you. I wish Cooper was a tad less bossy but I love the characters, Love the world building, and the idea of the setting. A theme town with paranormals, what's not to love?

So far so good

Book 2 progressed us further into Hannah's world. I really wish we could step away from the "everyone wants (insert Male lead name)". The books are well written once you skip the formula portions and its seriously distracting from the story at this point. Aside from that, I like the plot lines and the whole demon thing was nicely done.

What is more evil than a demon?

You'll need to read it to find out..

Hannah is settling in in Casper Creek, all has calmed down since she dealt with Leanne and even Astra has been absent and refrained from causing trouble.

But when a sandstorm hits the Creek trouble just doesn't seem to want to leave them. The town was evacuated and everything locked down but once it's passed a new trouble appears in the form of a dead body.

Todd Lincoln, father of two, is found dead in the street. There's no outward signs of a cause but that doesn't stop his new widow, Lindsay, from threatening Hannah with a court case. The two boys, Patrick and Logan, are reacting oddly but maybe it's grief..

Cooper finds it hard to believe Hannah when she tells him that one of the boys had red glowing eyes. It upsets her greatly especially when he believes in witches, shifters and vampires.. why on earth can't demons be real?

As the cause of death can't be found Hannah, Cooper, Boone and the coven are determined to work it out and ensure that Lindsay gets the truth. That truth is going to be harder to stomach than anyone realises..

4.8 stars for A Fistful of Demons book 2

I have to admit I love happy endings and seldom read something I know will be a tear-jerker. This is a very sweet series even though there are plenty of paranormal types. In general, the only ones acting mean or petty are definitely those with human traits. I love Jinx and Hannah's love affair and like most of the characters in the Wild West town. Learning lots about witches and charms and even demons. This is a fun series; don't miss it!

You’ll be “taken aback.”

When I read the first installment of this earlier series by one of my favorite authors, I wasn’t sure I was going to like it. This book was much better than that first installment. I purchased this title for my Kindle as well as the audio book (via Audible.) I would listen to the story in the car and finished it on the Kindle. The audio narrator was great, but listening to it I noticed how often the author used the phrase “taken aback.” Maybe it was the audio version that made it stand out, but did anyone else notice the seeming overuse? Anyway, if you need a good palate cleanse between heavier book reading content or just love a supernatural cozy mystery, this series seems as if it’s going to be another hit.

Casper Creek is the place to be!

Feisty Hannah is always a delight; she's facing personal demons head on, and earning her due respect. I like that Cooper is man enough to acknowledge being at fault and is willing to compromise when his protective nature is getting out of hand. The character development is enjoyable as is the mystery. The twists upon twists are completely engaging, and the climactic confrontation and its conclusion is surprising. Sometimes, there ARE things worse than demons...

This story did not go the way I thought it would go. I enjoy the fictional creatures and the troublemsome problems it brought. Taking a life is always serious business whether you mean to or not. Hannah has s awesome conscious even she she does not want to do something because goes against her fears she still manages to push forward and muscle through. Another thing I like about her character is that she doesn't just leap to conclusions and that will be the end all to be all. She tries to figure things out logical and see where she can help if she can lend any adsistance st all.

I give up. I put this book on hold twice and came back to it, made it halfway through and then... then I realized it was annoying me to hell and back. Cooper's condescending attitude towards Hannah rankled me horribly. It couldn't be demons because he had never come across any demons before. So there. No. Just no.

I might come back and give it another try at some point in the future since I own several books in the series and it would be a shame to just get rid of them but... not now. Yeah, definitely not now.

trust and affection are hard to balance with respect, friendships and love

toss in a few paranormal threats, and thjngs are more than a bit tricky, while Hannah and Cooper try to sort out feelings and needs, and a bevy of other folks and entities cause more chaos and complications.

I think it's pretty cool that new to the supernatural world Hannah isn't the only one who needs to re-examine preconceptions.

Intense drama, action, weighted threat values, and standards for action and inaction make for hot drama and stuff to think about.

I really liked the first book, so I ended up getting the first three in a book set, when they were on sale. This story addresses a subject, we as a species rarely talk about or even want to think about, the possibility of our child choosing evil and chaos from a very early age. The ending isn't pretty, but it IS an ending the person deserved. I definitely recommend this book, IF you can read it in the context it was meant for.

Disappointing

I've read a few of her other series but this one is not of the same calibre. It definitely seems overwritten and yet at the same time the characters are flat and stilted. I don't think I'll be continuing with this series but will still continue to enjoy her other books.

Story is good

I enjoyed the story idea.
I enjoyed the characters.
I have been reading this type of stories for awhile and they are starting to merge. I finding similar character types and similar things in the stories.
I still recommend it because if you're new to this cute, funny style it is a nice series. Even with the things I found familiar I enjoyed it so 5 stars it is.

Fun.

I really enjoyed reading this book. It is a perfect blend of humor and supernatural. More than once, I burst out laughing. The story and characters were interesting and engaging. I look forward to reading more about these characters and their further adventures. This series is quickly becoming a favorite. Absolutely worth reading.

A visiting father dies during a dust storm and Hannah thinks a demon is involved

What I enjoyed:
*
* Astra isn't being as annoying as I was expecting

What could have been better:
* Needed more Jinx
* Hannah and Cooper were annoying with their communication and trust issues

This was really a great mystery.

Such a fun read! Drama and humor! A wonderfully weird storyline and great characters. I even found myself feeling sorry for the demon in the end. I'm reading all the Lily Harper Hart series and finding them extremely fascinating, interesting and totally enjoyable. Great writing that definitely keeps me interested from beginning to the end!

I wanted to like this series as I have enjoyed others like it. THe first book was ok. The second just didn't improve. The characters dialogue was just not authentic feeling. I found I didn't like the characters much. They were one dimensional.

Honestly I wish she get over herself and stop been an idiot, go learn about who you are. Anyone who found their family are witches would try and find out more about it but nooo this woman just keep feeling pity for herself. Really hope this book series gets better.

Book 2

Deliciously creepy with a red eyed demon, HOW OLD IS HE?? More frightening than I imagined! Hannah and Cooper enjoying their blossoming relationship. Abigail is fading in and out, not able to gather enough energy to become corporeal.

Surprises Galore

Hart has been a favorite author of mine for some time. That being said, this is my least favorite book I have read of hers. The mystery is great, but there are some painful and difficult sections to get through. Be prepared

Fun reading and great characters!

Strong, clever characters make this an enjoyable story. The content is clean, but not completely innocent. Potential romance and innuendo add a bit of heat. Suspenseful plotline keeps it interesting.

Good read

Book 2 finds Hannah getting more and more used to her magic and learning more about the paranormal world. There is humor, danger, a dead body, a demon, and deep mystery. The ending is a surprise. Highly entertaining.
