The second of three books on the earth being hit by a giant meteor and the Impact it is having across the world. Join one family trying to do what's best for their family and some friends—doing things they don't want to do but doing them because it's life or death situations.

Storm Warning is a direct follow up to Rockfall in a 3 (or more) book series. I wish the author had repeated the Character List he included in Rockfall here. I had trouble keeping track of all the characters. I found Storm Warning to have the same positives and negatives as in Rockfall. There's a huge amount of narrative detail on the day-to-day hurricane recovery and disaster prepping by the extended group. Extreme detail on weaponry. Great, if you're into that stuff. There's a lot of character examination of the Main Character. Much less on everyone else this time. There's more action this time, in the form of more (one-sided, almost comical) gun battles. There is a sort of a main story arc here, in the form of dealing with a big human threat. Much of the "bro" dialogue is good, giving a little humor. The negatives include very weakly written female characters. They really only provide background for the main males. The romance dialogue and writing is trite, at best. The secrecy (still) generally maintained about the disaster and outlook is unrealistic. I rolled my eyes when I read about yet two more secret stashes of weapons. I was also surprised to read about a nuclear weapons exchange treated as a small side issue, later ignored. Overall, both books are interesting, but not great reads for me.

Rockfall -- 'Never, Ever, "Impossible."'

Love this story and this author. Very talented writer.
The only advice to offer is, he needs a better editor/proofreader.

As to the story -- gotta love the characters. These are people I recognize from my own life and hone towns. I understand these people and their motivations.

That they are caught up in a massive disaster/emergency scenario, allows for a very detailed character study that reveals strengths and weaknesses as their personalities are impacted by external events they have absolutely no control over.
All they can do is play the hands they have been dealt.

Fortunately for our main protagonists, they have strong "prepping" streaks in their personalities, which affords them protections and opportunities otherwise unavailable to many of their numbers.

So far, this has been a very "tactical" story, focused on just a few families and characters in just one region of Texas. The overall global scenario is interwoven subtly, but with great uncertainty about what has happened "out there," and what events might be coming up. Just like the real events would be.

I find a certain poignancy in reading this during the time of the CoronaVirus pandemic. Not too long ago, I had someone insist to me that a pandemic simply couldn't happen here in the USA. "Impossible," they said.

And yet, here we are.

I certainly hope that a giant asteroid isn't going to hit the earth, immediately killing Billions. I'd pray we, the residents of earth, can be spared such devastation.

But, I can't say that "Rockfall" is impossible. Unlikely, yes. Improbable, certainly.

Never, ever, "impossible."

Book 2 still seemed to ignore much of what could have made for some interesting content to the series. There are so many massively important events happening in the world which barely get mention, despite driving the world of the characters. I get the perspective angle, that the characters might not know much about the world beyond their towns; but, it doesn't mean you can't bless the reader with some wide-angle views now and then. The characters are a little flat (again, realistic enough, but boring at times). I keep finding myself hoping for just a little more out of this series. It has the potential, but just falls short.

Fast-paced Story About A Slow-motion Collapse

OK, the nit first. Every plan goes according to plan. I’m OK with that. The characters are smart and they prepare. They don’t have a windfall of money or unrealistic resources, like many characters do in this kind of story. No, I can see any of us being similarly situated.

Then, there is the pace of societal decline. Rapid in those areas one would expect, but not instantly calamitous. Vestiges of the social order endure and function, even if in a limited fashion and in a limited geography. Realism on the page. Good job, William Allen.

New and reviting

This is a new and more interesting take on the disaster/apocalypse genre. I found it more believable that it didn’t jump right from the “event” to the violence and looting stage. The way the characters are built is more realistic and easier to blend into the story. As for the characters, they are nicely fleshed out with good believable back stories and they are introduced at proper moments rather than going back and forth in time or location. Looking forward to the rest of the series.

Bryan Harden’s extended family continues to grow on his small farm. Everyone is expected to pull their weight for the safety and well-being of the group. While nature is a danger in and of itself, mankind is even worse. Coming together with their neighbors seems to be the best way to help protect everyone in the long run.

Allen's second novel in The Tertiary Effects Series, Storm Warning sees Bryan and his family pulled into conflicts not of their own doing. Information is sparse and law and order are even less so. All Bryan wants to do is keep a low profile and keep his family safe.

There seems to be no end to the rain and the storms that are producing it. The government is totally silent about the meteor. What is their reason, and is there more bad news to come?

Five out of five stars.

OUTSTANDING BOOK AND SERIES

Mr Allen has created a first class series combining plenty of believable action with believable characters and lots of prepper related information. Mr Allen has been successful in creating a post apocalyptic scenario with believable plot development (I.e., no invasion by Islamic terrorists, North Koreans, the UN or Mexican drug cartels). I can't wait for the next book.

So far this has been a very good series and this book is a good addition. There were not many editing issues and certainly none that caused any distraction. The characters have tended to be a bit one-dimensional, both the good guys (who I like a lot) and the bad guys. I like that the breakdown in Bryan's part of Texas is more gradual and not all at once since the effort to survive the former differs. I look forward to the next book.

While Mother Nature Continues her Destruction....

The inhumanity of man to his brothers takes front stage as rape, theft, murder, and every other violent crime takes front and center stage... and the body toll rises. Hurricanes and more potential meteor strikes muddy the churning waters even more... And snow in East Texas in August? Why not? Get a coat, pull on your boots, and load up on guns and ammunition. The war rages on and looks to become even more violent! 5+ stars!

Good Read

Went straight from Book 1 to 2. Will open 3 after I finish this review. I like this author’s writing and plots. ( Big fan of Walking in the Rain!) The characters are smart and interesting, believable relationships. Bad things happen but not rubbed in your face as some books do.
One of the first “grownup book I ever read was Swiss Family Robinson in 1964. I realized recently my interest in apocalyptic fiction may have started then.
I’ve got a book or two to read now.

Outstanding action story!

I've been waiting for book two! William, yeah, you gotta have more than three. I love the placing on this series. I had the piney woods over in my rural Shreveport area. Is this series as good as "Walking in the Rain"? No, but still it's terrific and I'm eagerly waiting for part three!

Just as good as Book 1

I couldn't stop reading. This second book in the series dragged me in just like the first book. I would recommend reading this book to anyone who enjoys action, adventure , a tiny bit of comedy, and a very tiny bit of romance. Now all I've got to do is wait for book 3.

Love this author

Second book in the series is a solid win. The unfolding saga of a family and their neighbors who fight to secure their lives following a rock fall / meteor impact to earth. Filled with great characters, the book gradually develops each person so that by the end I wanted to be part of the farm.

What a Story

This series are the first reads for this author I can say he has made my list of favorite authors. The tell of this story is so real I have to stop and look around to make sure that it is not happening right now. His characters are so real that they just keep off the page at you.

Great second book but wishing for next episode

Loved this well written story very much. Characters are almost real and work together well. Story line rode along smoothly. Only I wish a poor person could represent as these survivalist groups always seem to have a lot of money to set up. Real folks do not. Will be watching for the next piece to this great puzzle.

2 very good books

Be sure read Rockfall first. This book is the second in the 2 book series. Tertiary Effects is a continuation of the story in Rockfall. They are well written and worth your time to read them. I am an avid book reader and read between 50 and 100 books per year so I generally recognize well written stories.

So good!!

This book has a great pace to it, plenty of action but also enough quiet moments. I like seeing the evolution of Bryan & had a good time getting to know the rest of the characters better. This book is realistic, but has all the elements needed to give it that added umpf that sets it apart. It kept me entertained yet appreciative of the realism. Great story!

Good sequel.

This book continues the story at a good pace. The plot thickens with action. There is little emotion and an excess of guns. Not the using of be but who really cares about the different kinds of guns and ammo. A little bit is I interesting but this book crossed the line

Storm Warning

Storm Warning and the first book in this series, “Rockfall,” really captured my imagination!
We can hope the events described in these books never come to pass, but if the Earth was really struck by a space rock of this size in our future, I would hope and pray to be part of a family like the Hardins!!!
Very excellent books!!!

Well written

Will's books are always well written. He has very few typos and misspelled words which are very common with indy publishing. He sets the scenes with great detail with being long winded. His realistic characters have me almost cheering.

Loved it

Wow! The only negative I have to say is that it wasn't long enough. I started reading and got mad if I had to stop and do other things. The characters are kick a$$ awesome and the story line is different and interesting. I am ready for the next book!

Hard to put down!

Really have enjoyed this series so far. I think its much more realistic when the wheels come off the bus over a little bit of time rather than complete collapse in a day.

After walking in the rain, I'm really glad to have another Will Allen series to enjoy.

Not your normal end of the world scenario. So scarily realistic that it made me actually think about prepping & start! Cannot wait for the 3rd book. Well done Mr Allen
