A clean laugh-out-loud romance with a killer twist!
When Jessica gets blackmailed into working for a gang boss, the last thing she expects to find is romance. She is certain her bucket list full of wishes- like learning to ice skate and kissing under the mistletoe- will never come true. When she tries to run for it, the boss sends a hitman after her. But when the hitman shows up looking more uncertain than murderous, she proposes a deal. If he'll give her two weeks to complete her bucket list, she'll let him take her out without a fight. It turns out a lot can happen in two weeks. Especially when kissing is on your bucket list and your hitman happens to be a handsome billionaire...
This new romantic comedy by Izi Miller will sweep you off your feet with action, adventure, suspense and romance. Hands-down the best clean romance you’ll find this year. Miller has crafted a novella perfect for summer beach reading, and equally well-suited for cozying up by the fire at Christmas. Fans of movies like Holiday in Handcuffs, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, and Knight and Day will love the hilarious situations the characters find themselves in!
Both the paperback and Kindle editions include access to a PDF with easy book club ideas and simple recipes to match the romantic dinner in the book!
I saw this as a recommendation on Bookstagram as a light-hearted, entertaining, and a novella that’ll make you smile. And they were right!
This was a short and simple novella with a kinda dark background. Our MC has been wrapped up into gang work and when she tries to escape she runs into a cute stranger. Then said stranger is blackmailed into being her hitman. Y’all, what a plot line. I can’t say I’ve heard this before!
It was definitely a romantic comedy. As Jessica tries to accomplish things off of her bucket list, she drags her hit man off on her adventure. I smiled the whole time through these scenes. They were clever and provided good banter between the two. There’s no intense steam of anything. It’s all very clean and sweet.
I liked the chemistry between the two and how it all wrapped up. For a novella I thought the amount of background information was great and that the story actually had an end point. It’s also around Christmastime so this would be a great wintery novella as well.
Overall audience notes: - Rom-com contemporary novella - Language: none - Romance: a kiss - Violence: guns, murder, kidnapping
Cute and short story by a new to me author. It is a romantic comedy about a young gal who has a hit man out to get her and let's her finish her bucket list first.
This novella was a fun, quick read and definitely worth the buy. I'm typically not a fan of present tense first person, but I'm glad I stuck to it. A cute romance with fun action.
This book has everything! From romance and comedy to suspense and action packed! It's so nice to be able to read a book and not have to worry about any explicit content. This book is amazing and definitely a must read!!
I started reading this aloud to my mom and couldn't stop! It's a funny and wonderful romantic comedy/thriller book. I really like that for a sort of romance it's clean too, which I really appreciate. It has a quite bit of action and fighting scenes too. This is exactly the kind of book I love to read! I highly recommend it!
This book was so fun! It called to all my loves: suspense, romance, humor, thriller- without profanity and inappropriate content. I was laughing and making predictions of the ending the first half, and cheering, crying, and on the edge of my seat the last half. A book I can recommend to all my friends and family.
My Very Own Hitman was such a fantastic read! It was my first time reading anything by Izi Miller, but it definitely won't be my last! Jessica and Alex were so much fun together despite the circumstances that had them meeting each other. Honestly, I wasn't sure how the idea for this story was going to play out but the author certainly delivered on it. I loved the pace since it hooked me from the start and never let go (yes, this was a "read it in one sitting" experience). The timing of the reveals was perfect, be it their pasts or even their names, and it was also one of those rare instances where the single POV narration (Jessica's) pulled off seamlessly (meaning I didn't miss the male of POV that much).
Considering this is a story that deals with gangs and blackmail, one can expect to find serious moments interspersed with humor and action. Of course, with this being a sweet (clean) romance, I loved how they slowly (or not so slowly, considering the time frame for this story) developed feelings for the other through their accomplishing Jessica's bucket list. The tender moments were swoon-worthy, and the action scenes have you holding your breath and flipping the pages as fast as you can. Seriously, I can't recommend this one enough!! ~ 5 stars
Not my usual genre, but I got it free on Amazon several months ago and thought I’d give it a read.
This is a romance/suspense story that reads like a Netflix original holiday movie (slightly edgier than Hallmark since the plot revolves around a young woman threatened into criminal activity by a murderous gang). Jessica realizes her usefulness to the gang has ended and she makes a run for it knowing they plan to kill her. When a guy shows up to carry out the gang’s order, she assumes his pompom tasseled winter hat and youthful appearance are just a cover for a hardened hitman. When he agrees to let her complete a bucket list she’s made before he ends her life, you as the reader realize there is more to his story than meets the eye.
Overall, it was an okay story. Content was mild aside from some violence (never graphically described). However, there were a few plot holes and continuity errors that a good editor would have caught. It is a fairly short read, so I don’t mind the few hours I spent on it.
Plot: Jessica is living in a nightmare, tethered to a violent crime lord who has blackmailed her into criminal errands for his gang. On the day she tries t0 get away, she runs into Alex, who is innocently walking a dog. Later, after she has run, she finds him breaking into her apartment; it turns out that he's been sent to kill her for the gang. But she has a bucket list and has convinced Alex to let her finish that list before he kills her. A lot can happen in a week!
Commentary: This was cute, and I'll admit, there were a few times where I teared up, thinking of poor Jessica working through her list, on her way to her death. I kept thinking there must be a better way, like Alex gathering up his sister and going to the FBI or, I don't know, anything! The ending where the gang is taken down is a little too pat, but this wasn't meant to be a gritty crime drama, so I'll forgive it. I don't normally like clean romances, but this one did a good job evoking emotion, and I appreciated that.
Jessica works for the local gang boss, or at least, she did until she witnessed something he didn't want her to see. She runs for her life, but is soon caught by a hitman. When she begs for just enough time to finish her bucket list, he agrees. But there is more to him than meets the eye.
I didn't love Jessica as a character at first, and the way she got into her predicament didn't seem super believable. That said, I love who she grows into and I found her adventures with Alex super fun. I would read more from this offer for sure.

I opened this book up at 9:30 p.m & stayed up till I fiinshed it. It was a fun, and light read. The h was quirky & the H endearing. I enjoyed their banter. I didn't even care if the whole idea of a hitman giving you time to do a bucket list is plausible. One reviewer complained it was dark. Well, yes hitman and being blackmailed is dark, I suppose so maybe it's a dramedy? I think I'll try this author again! I laughed & smiled & enjoyed the story
Although there were some darker and grittier scenes, overall it was a fun story that had some truly funny scenes. The romance was a pretty slow burn, but especially toward the end, there were also some scenes that hit me right in the feels.
Looking forward to reading more by this author!
(Technical side note and not relevant to my rating: In my edition, the chapter headers were counting wrong.)
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I was constantly either laughing inside or smiling at the banter between Jessica and Alex. I particularly liked one scene when Jessiac was trying to escape and a man sees them struggling. Jessica answers "We're dating. I thought he was breaking up with me, but he's not. It's all good now.". I laughed out loud when I read that.
I enjoyed this story, and laughed out loud on a few occasions. The witty comments by Jessica, her forthright personality and 'go-getter' approach to her situation made for a great read.
