Welcome to Paradise Valley, where the locals thrive on the rural landscape, the quirky Oregonian living, and the history of the lesbian commune that founded it.
Mixing small town attitudes with lesbian dating? Sounds like another day in Paradise.
Firefighter Krys Madison is used to the single life. Although a womanizer, she’s been experiencing a dry spell for the past… year.
By choice. Kinda.
She doesn’t realize what’s missing until she discovers a litter of kittens after a barn fire. The only one who can help is rural veterinarian Siobhan O’Connor, a reclusive woman who prefers a life of solitude - and doesn’t need someone like Krys causing trouble in her life.
Too bad Krys is instantly smitten with the redheaded beauty. Too bad Siobhan doesn’t think she’s too bad, either!
But it will take a lot of healing for Siobhan to finally move on from the breakup that still haunts her heart. Someone like Krys? Her heat may start fires Siobhan never asks to have extinguished.
Hildred Billings is a Japanese and Religious Studies graduate who has spent her entire life knowing she would write for a living someday. She has lived in Japan multiple times in multiple locations, from the heights of the Japanese alps to the hectic Tokyo suburbs, with a life in Shikoku somewhere in there too.
Currently, Hildred lives in Oregon with her partner and two cats. When she's not commandeering the corner of the neighborhood coffee shop on hours on end (it's okay, she's on a first-name basis with the baristas) she's probably parked on the couch watching Bob's Burgers or screaming at a Zelda game. (Seriously, Link, why don't you move right?)
Come late to this series - someone must have recommended it, and for that I thank them as I enjoyed it. Will go back to the beginning of the series… Recommended.
What a Delight This is the eighth book in the A Year in Paradise series. It is the first I have read but it most definitely won’t be the only one!! Firefighter Krys finds a box of kittens near the scene of a fire. She takes them to the new vet in town, Siobhan for a checkup and hopefully to unload them. Having been on a year or so of the single and solo life, she is super attracted to the pretty Dr. Things don’t go according to plan… Not only won’t Siobhan take the kittens, she won’t give Krys the time of day because Krys has a reputation of loving and leaving the ladies. Of course there is more to the story but I won’t give anything else away. This book is a fun and fast read that will leave you hooked but good and desperate to read the rest of the stories in this yearlong production. This story is wonderful, delightful and super sweet and I know you will love it too!
Summer in Paradise heats up as firefighter Krys meets reclusive vet Siobhan. Krys has always been a bit of a player and Siobhan is sure the her ex hooked up with her. More small town drama as they work through their issues. These books are not about what happens in the bedroom but more about emotions and interactions between people
The premise was great and I liked both characters but I couldn’t connect with the story and the rhythm was too fast in a way I felt like I skipped parts of the book when I actually didn’t.
I enjoyed August, another nice trip to paradise valley. The story, like the others in the series, has an easy flow that makes it an easy read. Nothing overly exciting happens—and honestly, that’s okay. Hildred Billings captures small-town sapphic life in a way that feels cosy and simple.
Butch firefighter with abs of steel that rescues baby kittens? Uh, yes please!
Sadly that was the only great thing about this tale. This was a simple story with a touch of drama, a hint of heat, and a sprinkling of passion. Nothing over the top with fade to black scenes. I have to be honest, the cover and synopsis promised me more. Some like it hot, whereas others, like me, need to have it scorching. There's nothing more frustrating then embarking on a romantic journey between two women and not getting the big pay off.
Finally Krys gets her story! Complete with furry kittens, burning barns, an antisocial veterinarian with a cheating-ex hangup & a firefighting playgirl with a sexy six pack—so Paradise Valley!
Another great book chronicling the lives of Paradise Valley. Hildred Billings has written a world with so many interesting women. Here someone familiar from past installments of the series meets somebody I don’t recall meeting before. The real story of this one, for me, is a woman coming to terms with her own history and allowing herself to move past it.
As seems usual for me, I find myself wishing for about a chapter more worth of coupledom to cement the bond I’ve waited for. But because Paradise is so rich a place and the author gives her characters such rich journeys, I am never sorry to pick up a book from this series!
Siobhan O’Connor, is a large animal veterinary who secludes herself in the outskirts of Paradise Valley. Krys Madison, a Paradise Valley firefighter, finds four new born kittens after a barn fire. Now their lives are intertwined and maybe the sparks are about to become a fire. Recommend.
Even without the kittens this is a sweet, low angst, HEA. Fun visit back to Paradise. One assumes that the barn fires will be addressed in a future month story.
