Words from My Window: A Journal

Rate this book
I need a window to look at the world without; for only then can I look at the world within. A room without a window is rather like a prison cell, and the soul is inclined to shrivel up in a confined space. ... Car horns, children calling to each other as they return from school, a boy selling candyfloss, several crows chasing a hawk! Never a dull moment. And the magic mountain looks on, absorbing everything.

Words from my Window - A Journal by Ruskin Bond

'I need a window to look at the world without;
For only then can I look at the world within.' ~ Ruskin Bond

Words from my Window is a beautiful journal by Ruskin Bond for remembering his past so that he could relive any particular episode from his life. Reading on you start seeing the world from Bond's eyes. Thanks to the beautiful illustrations by Dan Williams. The lovely use of water colours make this book 'Oh so beautiful'

This journal also focuses of the importance of keeping a journal and maintaining it. There are blank spaces and pages for the readers to write their thoughts or day to day events.

This book is a keepsake for life and I am sure I will keep picking up this book time and again.

Book 28 of 2023-Words from my Window:A Journal
Author- Ruskin Bond

“I need a window to look at the world without;for only then can I look at the world within.”

Ruskin Bond’s affinity for Good literature, words, mountains, hills,Birds,Animals,Indian Food are universally known. One of the other things he loves the most is “Room with Windows”-He could live in a small room or even no room, but he can’t live without having a window on his own space.

After reading 30 plus books of Ruskin Bond, I know how much sitting and spending time by the window inspires him to write. This Book is his ode to the windows-to all the windows he has seen and enjoyed through his life.

This book is beautiful because of two reasons- i) It’s written by Ruskin Bond (ii) The illustrations. The printed signed letter card for the readers with his signature is yet another beautiful thing abut this book. It is beautiful in every single aspect. This has ample space for the readers to write down their thoughts. Once you finish reading the book and wishing your thoughts on the book,it becomes our(both us and Ruskin Bond) Journal. It’s a beautiful and a happy experience. As I keep saying, you’ll learn to embrace life a little extra after reading his books.

Never a dull moment with Ruskin Bond! It’s not that his life was always bright and happy, but he chose to enjoy little happy moments! This book will always have a special place on my heart for the beauty it holds and the happiness it brings!

Having read his memoir just yesterday, this was just a repetition. But the watercolours by Dan Williams is a treat.

The illustration brings out the subtle life of them Dehradun, Mussoorie & Landour. I personally love the one, a waterfall picnic.

The illustration of a hillside, with steppes cultivation method is so vibrant.

Some books are read for knowledge, and some are read for feelings. 'Words from My Window' by Ruskin Bond and Dan Williams is like a murmuring river - nice to see and nice to hear... it is a book that makes one feel deeply.

Ruskin's words are magical. They transported me in time to all the places in different time zone that Ruskin writes about. Dan's illustrations are equally magically... it's not a coincidence that when I came to the page where Dan has illustrated a rainy scene, I looked up and noticed raindrops falling outside my balcony too.

What a lovely read... a balm for the soul.

Ruskin Bond is one of my favourite authors. I was delighted when I received this beautiful journal by @penguinindia.

In this journal , Bond talks about his life experiences, from the time he went to study in a Boarding school, to living in foreign lands and finally settling down in the beautiful hills in Mussoorie. Growing up, almost every summer holidays, we went to Mussoorie. The way he has penned down details about Mussoorie was like going down the memory lane. This book shows that he lived a simple life with certain basic needs and although he travelled all over, he never got attracted to the out landsish show off of the world. He has penned down every small experience of his life beautifully. I loved the fact that he appreciates and is grateful for every small experience in his life.

This journal can be read in a day. The water colour illustrations by Dan Williams are an absolute delight. Each page is a colourful story in itself. There are a few pages with ruled lines, where you can write your own thoughts. But the fact is that the journal is so pretty that I would not want to write anything in it! The book is definitely a keep sake. I feel all Bond fans should a copy of this journal soon.

‘Words From My Window’ by ‘Ruskin Bond’ is a very satisfying and profound read. This is a collection of his thoughts and emotions from his early life. The author has beautifully penned down his thoughts and feelings related to different events from his childhood. The short lines express deep yet profound emotions that the author had been through during his stay at various locations, mainly in his childhood.
Ruskin Bond has outlined his personal experiences and memories from his childhood days. It was a pleasant experience to go through the journey of Ruskin Bond. He has beautifully described the beauty of nature, hills, birds and his surroundings. The text is supported by mellow illustrations which are warm and make you feel nostalgic at some points. Dan Williams has done an excellent job with his brush and water colours. The illustrations are astounding and delightful there by buttressing the text.
This journal can be finished in a day, but it leaves the reader with a feeling that he wants to read it again. I just don’t want this journal to finish too soon. I wish it could last long. Everyone will find something to appreciate in this book.

"I need a window to look at the world without; for only then can I look at the world within" - Ruskin Bond

This wonderful Journal "Words from my Window" by Ruskin Bond is nothing less than a marvel for book lovers and specially Ruskin Bond fans. .
.

This journal will transport you back in time with him as he tells his story about the early days of his life, his school, his travelling experince to different places and his writing. The illustrations (by non other than "Dan William" who also worked on the book Sea Prayers by Khalid Hussaini) are so beautiful and just add that charm to the book. .
.

The best part is there are empty beautiful pages given for the reader to write down his/her journal or story and pen down their thoughts. .
.

I am in love with this book and my rating for it can be nothing less than a ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5 .

Thank you Penguin random house for sending me this beautiful book by Ruskin Bond and illustrations in the book are by Dan Williams.
This book is just beautiful. The illustrations make you feel home and I am in absolute love with this journal. There are blank spaces for the readers to record their observations when they read the book as well so I can say it is very well customised for readers. personally I felt very attached to the book when I was reading it and at one point of time even a tear drop fell from my eyes.
It is very inspiring to see that how the author appreciates small things in life which we generally ignore. The illustrations make the book so comfortable that you wish it never ends . It is a wonderful book and I highly recommend the book to everyone.

The book is a collection of thoughts penned by Bond, on the various events and happenings of his life. Each thought presents a life lesson to readers, and will inspire them to pen their own thoughts in a similar manner.
The stunning watercolour paintings of Bond’s life scenes, by Dan Williams, make the book a collectible work of art.
The beautiful pages, and multiple lined sheets will certainly encourage readers to begin journalling/diary-writing.
I highly recommend this book as a present for a special person in your life- age/gender/inclination no bar. Pick a copy for yourself as a collector’s edition too!

The book is a collage from the author's life. These are some memorable moments of his life, more like diary entries. The nuggets of thoughts are peppered throughout the book. It is a quick read and one can complete this book in span of 10 minutes. But will it be like other books by Bond? Yes! It gave me feels in very short number of words. It seemed like tweets from the author's past. These memories are dexterously illustrated by Dan Williams.

From childhood to adulthood, he talks about people, experiences and places that helped him shape into the person that he is today. He also shares his love for sitting by an open window for inspiration for his writing. The book has a unique format which has empty pages for the readers to write in their journal as well, which according to the writer, is a great and enriching practice.

This is the latest book by Ruskin Bond I spotted in the store. So far I have read all the books penned by him, I had great time reading this one too.

In this book Bond has described his life from start and his love for flowers and plants his dreams and how cherish he felt of having a room on roof, his days in landour and much more. The book has colourful paintings drawn to give a beautiful look. Lastly I would say writing is an art and Mr Bond has mastered it.

"Some books are read for knowledge, and some, for feelings". Words from my Window is a journal by Ruskin Bond. Here, he drives down the nostalgia lane, and pens down his thoughts and memories from various phases of his early years. "I need a window to look at the world without; for only then I can look at the world within."

"This...is a remembrance of times past, an attempt to resurrect a person or a period or an episode, a reflection on the unpredictability of life." Life is a mystic maze, and we really don't know what can happen the next moment. All we can do is to keep moving and hope for the best, advises Bond.

And the lovely water colour illustrations by Dan Williams make the book even more magical. Each page in the book is almost a story in itself. Absolutely recommended, it'll leaving you with some lingering thoughts about life and its meaning.

📚Book Title-Words From My Window. ⁣
📝Author-Ruskin Bond.⁣
🖨Publisher-penguin. ⁣
🔍Genre- Journal. ⁣

✅This is the only third book of ruskin bond which I have read so far, but became huge fan of him from that very First day when I read his book (Titled-#theroomontheroof). He wrote this novel when he was just 17 years old. WAIT!!! WHAT?? YES, only 17!!! You read it right.⁣
What were we Doing then?? ⁣

✅ "WORDS FROM MY WINDOW" a journal in which Bond(not 007😉), Ruskin Bond has penned down his Thoughts and Emotions from his early life. ⁣

✅This journal will nudge you to take a trip down memory lane, as it did to me, and feeling of Nostalgia will rushed inside you for your childhood days, for memories you created with Your parents, siblings and friends. 🌸⁣

Haven't you heard, "YEHIN BAATEIN TO BAAD MEIN YAAD AYENGI" said by modern guru-@aupmanyu (abhishek upmanyu).⁣

✅This journal is so splendidly watercolor by #danwilliams that gives Picturesque view of the receding hills, king size pine trees, streets of london and what else not....⁣

✅This journal has few Pages provided with lined spaces to scribbled down our own memoir.⁣ ⁣

✅This is the book which you can gift to your friends who love either reading, writing or painting.

I just loved it and every fan of ruskin bond should have this journal with them.

Ruskin Bond is one of those writers who can express a thousand feelings and colours with minimal amount of words. With this illustrated book, he did it again, capturing our soul and time travelling to his memories as a silent observer. I cannot emphasize enough how much I enjoyed the illustrations as well, the simplicity and clarity in the landscapes and objects which defined the life of Mr. Bond.

This beautiful book contains short clips and thoughts from his journal, where Ruskin Bond delves into the past, not for a grand investigation, but to make sense of the events that shaped him into the person he has become.

The book is beautifully illustrated, super-short, and written in Ruskin Bond's characteristic style!!!
It might just encourage you to delve into your own past 🙂

Experience this work of art during lockdown is one of the most soothing things that has happened to me. If you have read his memoir, you will be able to get the context behind the illustrations. And that makes the novel all the more interesting.

Please note that it’s a graphic novel.
