Many of the earliest books, particularly those dating back to the 1900s and before, are now extremely scarce and increasingly expensive. We are republishing these classic works in affordable, high quality, modern editions, using the original text and artwork.
First published in 1936, it became an immediate classic because of its comprehensible text and multiple photographs. This Dover edition from 1985 I have, is quite a faithful reproduction from the original. It is interesting to note that some of the places depicted in the book, like Nagoya's castle, were destroyed during WW2, so we are actually looking at pictures from a disappeared world (concerning Nagoya's castle, the current building dates from 1959). Do you feel somehow nostalgic when looking at pre-war pictures?
