First published in 1936, it became an immediate classic because of its comprehensible text and multiple photographs. This Dover edition from 1985 I have, is quite a faithful reproduction from the original. It is interesting to note that some of the places depicted in the book, like Nagoya's castle, were destroyed during WW2, so we are actually looking at pictures from a disappeared world (concerning Nagoya's castle, the current building dates from 1959).
Do you feel somehow nostalgic when looking at pre-war pictures?

Beautiful examples, some of which are now lost due to WWII. Easy read with only around 75 pages of descriptive words and historical accounts.
