Dimi Weston has always loved the theater—just not as much as loves managing things. His job at Joy Universe lets him manage to his heart’s content, and he fills his free time with community theater. Now, though, he’s being offered a promotion to his dream job: managing Joy Universe’s brand-new theater production company. JU really does make dreams come true—or so he thinks until he meets the ex-Broadway director he’ll have to work with.

Jason Philips is shocked to discover the hot younger guy he was trying to impress at a community theater is going to be managing the production company that just hired him. Scarred by the bad breakup of a long-term relationship, Jase is already nervous about getting back into dating… and now he’s accidentally offended the first guy he tried to flirt with and now has to work with.

As Dimi and Jason get stuck into the craziness of the theater, they have to contend with family, exes, and the nosiness of their colleagues, but nothing will stop them from making this venture a success.

LOUISA MASTERS started reading romance much earlier than her mother thought she should. While other teenagers were sneaking out of the house, Louisa was sneaking romance novels in and working out how to read them without being discovered. She’s spent most of her life feeling sorry for people who don’t read, convinced that books are the solution to every problem. As an adult, she feeds her addiction in every spare second, only occasionally tearing herself away to do things like answer the phone and pay bills. She spent years trying to build a “sensible” career, working in bookstores, recruitment, resource management, administration, and as a travel agent, before finally conceding defeat and devoting herself to the world of romance novels. Louisa has a long list of places first discovered in books that she wants to visit, and every so often she overcomes her loathing of jet lag and takes a trip that charges her imagination. She lives in Melbourne, Australia, where she whines about the weather for most of the year while secretly admitting she’ll probably never move.

Loved Dimi and Jason together, they fit together really well and their disagreements made me laugh a lot, especially the month of October 😂

What bothered me though was that Dimi's mum was so anti-Jason and her reasoning felt like she was really reaching and it was pretty anti-climactic. You can't just tar everyone with the same brush because you had a bad experience. I also felt like if it was such a traumatising experience why has it never come up before and why was it such a shock to her husband of many decades? It made me question her relationship with Dimi's dad then because from what was portrayed these people don't really get the opportunity to have any secrets, so it felt a little off and then the whole thing felt like it had been forced to add tension to the plot?

The part with Jason's ex was also too predictable and I saw it coming a mile off, which was disappointing. After book one I was just expecting more I guess.

Liked this one even more than the first

I do love an age gap romance and when it's coupled alongside a workplace one, it makes it all the sweeter.

This was fab. I loved Dimi and Jason, they were a great match and I very much appreciated the lack of miscommunication or misunderstanding in their relationship.

The ex trope worked well and I even found myself appreciating the secondary tension plot with Dimi's mum.

I loved this book. So much so that I stayed up well past my bedtime to finish it. And by that I mean classes tomorrow are going to be harsh.

Anyway, on to the review.
I loved the first book in this series I've Got This so much, I honestly don't know why I waited this long to read the second book. It's just as good though. It's a light, feel-good story with minimal angst. Sure there's some drama going on with Dimi's mom and Jase's ex but nothing too bad and it doesn't really happen until the MC's are already somewhat settled in their relationship. So I would say that there's about zero actual relationship angst. While I usually don't like the drama coming from the secondary characters it really didn't bother me in this book.

This series ain't for everyone though. I think you either might love it or not. The writing is very special. I'm not sure I have read anything like it before if I'm honest. It's like the characters are interacting with you. I don't know how to explain it but I'm sure it might put some people off. It somewhat did for me in the first book, but going in to this one I was prepared and really didn't think about it as much as I did in the first book.

My only concern is that the conflicts with the secondary characters were solved a bit too easy. It was like all this buildup happening and then... nothing. When I think about it, it should've bothered me more than it actually did.

This is just as cute as the first one. I was surprised though by Dimi’s mother. I loved how his siblings stood up for him and Jason to their mom.

When the story began, Jason didn’t come off well. He was trying to flirt and make an impression but it didn’t work as he hoped. He flubbered. Wasn’t pretty. Then to find out the one he was trying to impress was the one he was working with and for was a shock for him. My overall impression of Jason is one of he is a stickler at work. He pushes the people around him but that is what gets the results on stage he needs. He is a good guy though. He is mature, responsible and kind. He went through a terrible breakup and is a wee bit gunshy at the trust thing now. With Dimi though he felt instant chemistry and wanted to get to know him. Do they always get along? Well, no especially at work but they do respect each other and each other’s opinions and listen to one another before making choices on things.

Dimi has worked hard to get where he is. He loves his family and his job. He has a vision for the theatre and Joy U and is determined for it to come true. When he meets Jason at first it wasn’t a good impression. He learns over time to respect him and sees he isn’t all that the impression gave him. He sees there is more to him. It does take him some time to get over the first time they met but he does and they end up dating. And that was scorching hot. They understood one another and talked. They wanted the same things in a relationship and in life. they wanted someone to trust, support and love while in life they wanted to be successful at what they did. Watching how jason handled Dimi’s mom had me gain more respect for him. And in Dimi’s eyes as well. Seeing how they worked together was great.

The story was fun, flirtatious and sweet. We had characters from the first book come make appearances and have you smile. New characters who you just fall in love with and some you boo. Jason and Dimi you root for and smile as they gain success and love. A fun sweet flirty story you can’t put down.

This is the second book in the Joy Universe series. I read book one and thoroughly enjoyed it and this book lives up to the standards set by the first. I am really looking forward to more books in this franchise.

Dimi and Jason are the MCs in this book. We met Dimi in book one as Derek’s assistant. He has now been promoted and is the producer of the new Joy Village Theatre Company. Jason is the big shot director from NY. A famous Broadway director and Tony winner who has just gotten out of a bad relationship and is looking for changes in his life. Things do not start out well as when they first meet Jason sticks his foot in his mouth big time.

The story arc moves well and there is good character development as the story progresses. There are some interesting dynamics thrown in to cause issues for the MCs and they are not the typical ones. Though towards the end we do get one of the typical ones and I kind of expected that to play out differently. I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop.

I really enjoyed the book. Both MCs are likeable. The angst is low level. The writing is sharp and the story is clever. It was a quick, entertaining read. It’s clear what franchise readers are supposed to envision as Joy Universe and Joy Inc are discussed and I think that gives readers a frame of reference. I remember reading another review when the first book came out that implied the setting was unrealistic as no company has the kind of reach Joy Universe has! That is someone who is completely ignorant of today’s entertainment/media landscape! I found this book even more embedded in that realm as it discusses the overlap with the theme parks, theatre, movies etc.

I will most definitely read the next book when it comes out and I will be anxiously awaiting it.

*I voluntarily read an ARC and this is my objective review *

I couldn’t wait to read this story as I loved the first, great to see Trav and Derek again and loved the secondary characters, I’ve worked theatre backstage so it was easy for me to jump into the pages. This was a May/December romance between Jason and Demi, a little drama, lots of humour and hot, sexy steamy scenes.

I voluntarily reviewed an arc of this book for my honest opinions of which I’m under no obligation to do so. I absolutely recommend this book and can’t wait for the next in this series.

Follow My Lead is a great addition to the Joy Universe series. I loved getting to revisit this world.
Dimi and Jason are quite the match. After a somewhat rocky start they were well on their way to a HEA. There is just enough drama added to keep things interesting! I really enjoyed this sweet, age gap romance. I'm looking forward to more in this series.

I’ve read this author before. This is a mm romance story set in the USA. Book 2 in th3 series with main characters Dimi and Jason. Age gap and set around musical theatre in a huge theme park. Some updates of characters in book 1. This is an enjoyable read.

I really loved this book. It was a great second book in the Joy Universe series. It had interesting secondary characters and I liked experiencing more of Joy Universe. I really loved the way Dimi and Jason were with each other. I love plays and wish I could see more, and it was fun seeing the inner workings that get them on the stage. I thought the drama was appropriate and added great background to the story. This book was not all fade to black and I’ll admit, I like it better this way. I definitely recommend this book.

Nice follow on to the first book in the series.

A nice follow on to the first book in the series, I've Got This, I enjoyed catching up with Trav and Derek. In this story the MCs, Demi and Jason are both engaging, likeable and well written characters, On the whole, it's quite a gentle love story, with a few hiccups along the way. There's very little angst. The romance eventually ends well, but not before a few adventures and misunderstandings, which provide an entertaining and enjoyable story.

Recommended. Can be read as a standalone

4 CRANKY STARS

I can only give this book 4 stars. This is a second book in the Joy Universe series, but it is about Dimi Weston. Again, with the same stereotypes that are found in the first book. I can’t believe that people really act like this. Maybe I’m just out of touch. At least in this story, there doesn’t seem to be the overinflated ego’s.

Dimi gets promoted to Director/Producer of the brand-new theater company at Joy Universe. He was originally, an administrative assistant to one of the Assistant Directors. They have brought in a Broadway producer who needed to get away from NYC quickly. Jason Philips is thirty years older than Dimi and needs to learn how to take orders from a younger man. They are partners technically, but Dimi has the final say on all decisions.

I found it refreshing that Dimi is a family man. He goes to dinner at his mother’s house every Monday night. He has eight siblings and numerous in-laws so if everyone is in town, it’s a huge affair. We now learn that Dimi has a secret and his family has no qualms. What they aren’t sure of is the relationship that might develop with his new partner at work. After all, thirty years is a huge age gap. Well written and enjoyable storyline into the trials and tribulations of a new job and new love.

I loved Dimi in the first book in this series (I've Got This), so I was super excited to see this second book is about him!! And okay, I'm not a big May/December or age gap romance person, so the very large age gap between Dimi and Jason did weird me out a little, but I know a lot of people are into that. So if age gap is your trope, here's a great book for you!

Once again, I was not a fan of the characters directly addressing the reader. It's just not a writing style I vibe with, and thankfully Louisa Masters doesn't seem to do it in any of the other series I've read by her so far. It honestly annoyed me enough to knock a star off my rating.

Much like the first book in the series, there's some tension at the beginning of Jason and Dimi's relationship, but once they finally hook up most of the drama is external pressure on them while they just go about their cozy, merry way. They're so great together, and I love the way they soothe each others' insecurities. Awww, I just wanna HUG THEM.

I love the community at Joy Universe. It was so fun to see Derek and Trav doing well, and to get little glimpses of Grant, who is the main character for book three. Much like the first book in the series, this is a relatively low angsty, sweet and flirty quick read. Also, super hot. *fans self* whew!

This is the second book in the Joy Universe series. While it could technically be read as a stand-alone, you'll miss all the great background for Dimi in the first book, I've Got This. Plus, this one has definite spoilers for book one as well. I can't wait for book three, In Your Hands, which is Grant's book!!

The second book in the Joy Universe Series was every bit as sweet as the first. I fell in love with Dimi in book one, because of his smarts and good-natured personality that won the hearts of anyone who met him.

In book two, where he "takes the lead," along with the other MC, Jason, a talented Broadway director from NYC, this dynamic pair light up the stage winning hearts through their romance and growing relationship. The two men must work through family drama brought on by prejudice because of the quarter-century age gap.

The guys also have to deal with issues of homophobia and working through separating work-life from home-life, while juggling daily issues that go into producing and directing something worthy of Broadway. To add to the chaos right before curtain call, Jason is informed his cheating ex, whom he'd been with for 17 years is now seeing one of the critics who is coming to see their show. Jason and Dimi believe he may have an agenda, however, and they might just be right...

This series is fun and a JOY to read. It isn't too over the top, angsty, or filled with overly gratuitous playtime, but rather just enough to be sweet and genuine. As Goldilocks would say, "this one's just right." So, if you want a sweet escape, the cast of, Follow My Lead is waiting in the wings for their cue to take you away.

Set in a theme park in southern Georgia, a theater producer and a director work together to start a new production for the park. They both have a lot to prove, if they are going to keep their jobs, and help the park recover from some bad publicity. The last thing they need is to bring more scandal!

Dimi has been a community theater volunteer as well as an assistant to one of the park directors. This is his first management position. He's got lots of great ideas and definite ideas of what shows need to be presented.

Jason has received Tony awards on Broadway and has been hired, in large part, for his success in the past. He's looking for a fresh start away from NYC.

Though they had a rough start with some misconceptions, they reach a 'very amicable relationship,' both at work and in their personal lives. Things are going great until an ex shows up and Dimi's mom becomes aware of just how close they've become.

Family is great...until it's too close. Assistants are necessary until they bring personal baggage.

A sweet romance with some tension, difficult conversations and great friends to help move everything in the best direction possible!

I loved Dimi from the first Joy Universe book and so hoped he would get his own story soon. Here it is, and it is a winner. Just like the characters of Derek and Travis in the first book, Dimi and Jason act like mature adults even with a scheming mother and ex-boyfriend interfering in their lives. I enjoyed the use of the age gap trope and workplace romance here and both were expertly handled. I find myself drawn to this author's work because her characters are not drama queens. They have problems and the road to their happy ever after is not smooth, but they never give up on each other. The main characters always treat each other with respect and honesty-no game playing. As is obvious from the quote in the headline, once they commit to each other they have no hesitation in standing up to anyone else who tries to come between them. These scenes are so satisfying. I love it when meddlers get told off and the couple finds the strength to do that from being together. The world building and what we learn about the behind the scenes activities at Joy Universe are extremely well done. I look forward to many more entries in this series.

This is the second book in the Joy Universe series, but can easily be read as a stand alone. Dimi and Jason work together as producer and director in a theatre at Joy Universe. They have chemistry right away and Dimi has actually had a "crush" on Jason for a LONG time, since there is a several decades age gap between them. I found both characters very likable and had many warm and fuzzy, happy moments while reading. We also get some charming asides from both characters talking to the reader that were entertaining. The writing was really very good with great dialogue. Ms. Masters writes in a clever, modern, easy-to-relate-to-the-characters way that makes me want to read more of her books. The excellent editing is also very much appreciated. I am not a fan of theatre settings in my books, but I enjoyed this story anyway because of the writing and the characters. There is low-angst between the characters and several steamy scenes. I would definitely recommend Follow My Lead. (4.5 stars)

Dimi and Jase

We already knew Dimi was a great character from the first book as Derek's assistant but he is even more evolved and lovable now. He got his promotion, yay, and he rocks it in the Theater. Jason comes in as the director for the new theater and instantly fall for Dimi. Reading the other reviews I see that Mom got hated real quickly and she was pitched as the villain in this story. Which she is not! As a mother your child is your world. Protecting them is your life. As a mother myself, we try to protect and prevent them from making the same mistakes you did. Did she go about it wrong? Definitely but love isn't always logical. She owns up to her mistake and that is not an easy thing to do. She went through something bad and loved her son to much to see things with an open mind. Dimi has a wonderful family, his sisters are funny and protective and his brothers are awesome and idiots as all boys can be. You'll enjoy this too.

It has been a long time…

Since I read anything that had unaccepting family, and I have to say how impressed I am by how it was presented and resolved. It wasn’t sunshine and rainbows, it was real and tangible. Family isn’t always going to rally, and the fact that it shows that in this book makes it feel more realistic and makes the story so much better. I also love how the whole Rick situation went down. I love that the MCs were able to have all these things get thrown at them, and instead of intense angst and poor communication, things were handled in ways that gave a little fall out, while still putting how to handle things the right way in the spotlight. I liked Dimi in the first book but I never expected to feel so much love for him in the one dedicated to him. I thoroughly enjoyed this age gap romance, especially because it felt like it could be a real, honest relationship, and not just a faery tale spun into a contemporary novel. 10/10.

Dimi is starting his position as a producer for the newly created Joy Universe Theatre Company, and he wants something to wow his boss so he can expand. Jason is a Broadway director hired to help out, and from the start they feud and dislike each other.

In fact, Jason’s trying to impress Dimi as a big time producer when he insults him, not knowing he’s the director. When they get past some of their biases they find the spark ignites to start a fire between them.

Dimi’s Mom dislikes Jason and worries he’s taking advantage of him because he’s older, but this is cleared up when some truths are brought to light.

Fun book with Dimi moving into his dream job after he was the best assistant to Derek in the last book.

Romantic age gap!

I loved Dimi in the first book and couldn’t wait for his story. I wasn’t disappointed! I liked this book as much as the first, maybe more. I adore that it’s age gap, but you only notice when somebody mentions it. Dimi and Jason just work together.

I love love love the way Louisa writes romance. It’s so natural and organic and lovely. The characters have their moments of self doubt and the like, but the relationship itself is always solid. Plus, they actually share and talk through things rather than ignore them and letting them fester.

I look forward to reading more of Louisa’s books!

Age gap

I might not have read this book if I'd known there was such a big age gap. Jason is in his 50s and Dimi isn't quite 30. It helps that Dimi isn't young. Jason is a well established Broadway director looking for a change, but not that much of a change. Dimi is organized, driven, and has some experience producing plays, but it's never been his job before.

There is no kink in their relationship, and there's a balance to it not usually present in age gap romances. The conflict comes from first from a brilliant misunderstanding: it's realistic and not at all silly. Then Dimi's mom is rude and Jason's ex comes to visit.

I enjoyed the story.

Enjoyable sweet romance.

If you’re looking for a well written book that has no angst, a bit of lighthearted humour, a drop of drama and a sweet age gap romance then I highly recommend this book.
Set in the theatre production division of a theme park called Joy Universe, this storyline gives us two wonderful, likeable main characters. Dimi is the 29 year old first time professional Producer and Jason is the 53 year old ex Broadway Director. The friendship and chemistry between them slowly builds and turns into a beautiful loving romance.
Of course there are a couple of bumps along the way and it kept me turning the pages needing to know how this adorable couple would get their HEA.
I found this to be an enjoyable, easy to read book and I wanted to become a member of the JU world. I can’t wait for more!
This can be read as a standalone.

Follow My Lead is book two in the Joy Universe series by Louisa Masters..

I loved book one. Follow My Lead is equally well-written. We see the same set of characters once again. And I adore them all.

This time around. It's Demi getting to find love and lust in equal measure. And the path of love isn't smooth at all.

Jason's ex and Demi's mom irritated for very different reasons. Though, I think that just speaks to the brilliantly written characters. Jason and Demi were far more forgiving than I would be.

5 stars.

Highly recommend.

This is another sweet entry in the Joy Universe series. I really enjoyed Dimi in the first book, so I loved seeing him get his own book. Age difference is not one of my favorite tropes, and I didn't realize from the blurb that that was a theme of this story, but it is well done and believable. There are some complications to Dimi and Jase's love connection, with an ex-boyfriend and interfering mother involved, but overall, it's pretty low angst. The sexy times are sweet and steamy.

I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.

Dimi (Dimitri) Weston, 29, producer-Joy Village Theater Company, grew up in Joyville, middle child of eight, gay, quietly confident, organized, driven, competent, whimsical

Dark hair
Dark hair

Jason Philips, 53, director-Joy Village Theater Company, gay, cheated on by partner of 15 years, respected, established, responsible

Sherry brown eyes
Chestnut brown hair, silver at temples

First person dual POV
Joyville, Georgia

Age difference (24 years), bad first impression, coworkers, light hurt/comfort, childhood crush, arguing as foreplay

This was good. The fourth wall breaking is still annoying, and I’m with Dimi’s mom about the age gap. The drama about the ex wasn’t really believable.

Dimi & Jason

Enjoyed the storyline in this one, Dimi gets his production department and Jason is brought in to direct. Their first meeting doesn’t go well but they turn it around and make a good team. The age difference is an issue for Dimi’s mom which surprised everyone in family but they come to an understanding and although it’s not perfect, it’s clear that she just wants Dimi happy. Rick is a disaster, so happy Jase puts him in the past. Another sweet Joy Universe story.

This is a sweet age gap story about 2 people who got off on the wrong foot but realized their mistake. I enjoyed seeing how they figured out their feelings for each other while navigating new jobs together. I was glad to see the MCs from book 1 since I didn't want to let them go after their story.
