Super cute and wholesome Rom-Com slice of life.

Uzaki-Chan follows her Sanpai everywhere. Basically teasing him but also secretly getting him to do more, interact with people, basically learn to be social. Through their adventures they head to the movies, go glasses shopping, and even cooking.

What I enjoyed was you can tell the chemistry for these two works well. Both like each other, but make fun of each other, but it's never over the top or in mean spirited ways. The fan service is there but not flaunting itself everywhere. Few panty shots and quick boob grabs but nothing over the top. Overall, if looking for a cute series with two fun main characters, this will work out well.

A 4 out of 5.

2020 Read #169

I love the slice-of-life elements in this first volume, but Uzaki herself is a tad annoying for me. As someone who’s quiet and passive, though, I have trouble relating to outgoing characters who don’t care what others around them think. I am hesitantly looking forward to reading volume 2 even though I heard there are more ecchi elements going on ahead...

I was scouring the shelves for anything that was a Vol. 1 and grabbed this. I thought, "Honestly, a pretty tame illustration, despite the cartoonishly large breasts. I really hope it's not just big-breasted women scantily clad." Then I opened the book - and I was pleasantly surprised and relieved to discover that it was not just figure drawings of big-breasted characters.

And then, I felt it.

As I was holding the book open, I felt the texture of the cover change. "Huh?" I thought. I closed the book and looked at the cover again.

The cover is designed such that the stock of the paper is slightly thicker, slightly glossier precisely on Uzaki-chan's breasts. The design is so specific such that the paper is neither quite as thick nor glossy in the gap between her breasts.

Honestly, I must needs respect this level of attention to detail. It's absolutely ridiculous - and I can't but wonder what went into this cover design and the effort it took to ensure it was executed precisely in this manner - but this is surely someone who loves their job. No one who was just 'doing their job' could have come up with this idea, right?

Uzaki-Chan Want to Hang Out!, Vol.1 (My Kindle Review)

This slice-of-life series has been on my reading list for ages. We follow college student Sakurai, who's a serious no-nonsense guy that likes to have a quiet life that gets interrupted by a certain girl. Uzaki, a petite but well endowed underclassman with a spunky personality, loves to spend her time with him while also taunting him for his lone wolf persona and no matter where they are, funny moments occur.

Going in, lots of laughs are provided that won't stop. Uzaki is no doubt the big spark in this story certainly as she's the one who make it worth reading this series, as well as her and Sakurai's topsy turvy relationship. It's still early to see where their relationship will go from there, but I can't wait for more of this series and Uzaki's bubbliness. A (100%/Outstanding)

This gets better as it goes on and moves out of the "introvert subjected to extrovert" stuff.

I was kind of meh on this at first especially since I kind of relate to the MC in wanting to do stuff on his own and having someone be all, 'NOOOOO ITS TOO LONELY.' Also, Uzaki's a bit hard to take at times....but the bimbo means well.

Anyway, it's interested me enough to maybe try a second volume of this so we'll see. Otherwise, I await the inevitable anime version because Uzaki's titties are big enough to make it happen.

It’s Cute

I really like Slice of Life manga and anime. And this was a cute manga that I liked. Mainly it’s about a college student who likes to hang out with her older classmate and wants to be friends with him.

She is a little annoying but she grows on him after a while. I liked it!

Uzaki-Chan is super annoying

Uzaki is obsessed with her sempai and loves annoying him, and in turn annoys me to the point that I wanted to stop reading. She gets slightly less annoying throughout the book, but only slightly. I never want to see her bratty face ever again. Her sempai is a pushover so he's frustrating too, but to a lesser degree.

Absolutely will not be reading another volume.

You know pretty much what you're getting into when you read a book like this, some fun romantic comedy. It has some light innuendo in it, but it's pretty cheery and fun overall. It stars one straight man, "gloomy" loner named Sakurai and a perky, annoying clingy woman named Uzaki Hana who bump into each other on their way to classes at college, and they slowly develop into something more special along the way.

The nature of their characters means there's some animosity and rough spots at times (seen by others as the "bickering" or "teasing" couple archetypes, her frequently cursing out his scowling face or no fun lonely ideals, him calling her stupid). However, this does make those moments where they have fun and open up all the more great. If it didn't have those moments though, this'd maybe go in that slightly mean spirited comedy file, but there's enough joyful stuff here to cancel it out. As an example, at one point, Uzaki is blaming Sakurai for her back injury at the batting range (not his fault, and probably the most annoying she gets), so he takes her to the movies in apology, and rather than Uzaki dragging him to a movie he hates, she picks one that he's actually seen before and enjoyed (iirc, it's what you'd expect, an action / gore movie). Even going to the batting cages and playing video games are nice bonding type moments for them. The final chapter in particular shows how far they come from Uzaki being an annoying presence to being someone Sakurai doesn't mind inviting over on his extra off-day.

Character art is vibrant and fun. They're often in motion and doing stuff in the panels. Despite the story being centered on school, we actually don't see any of their classroom, but we do get to see a lot of after-school locales, such as the restaurant Sakurai works at, the local mall, Sakurai's home, and the baseball range. We also get hints at future locations, such as Uzaki's home with her two cats.

The supporting cast is made up of a father and daughter who run that restaurant Sakurai part-times at. Both give Sakurai and Uzaki their support from the sidelines as lovers of people watching, and don't overstep their boundaries in the slow moving relationship that is bound to develop between the leads. Ami-san, the restaurant owners daughter, is a fellow college student, and I thought for sure they'd do the rivalry thing with her because she digs looking at his bod, but nope, she wants to see Uzaki and Sakurai get together too.

In terms of content warning, it does have that innuendo I mentioned, which is mostly verbal (Uzaki after getting an injury from the batting cages with Sakurai saying he injured her back doing something crazy last night... Which sounds bad). There are some visible gags that are more low brow too, like when Sakurai tries to pull Uzaki out of a shrub she fell into and two girls walking by get the completely wrong idea. Based on how folks were saying the anime was all boob jokes, I was worried, but that's really not the case here at least.

Overall I will definitely be reading more. It might not stick with you in terms of all the other available RomCom out there though. Despite being college based, there's not too much difference from other Highschool based series with similar archetypes (Kohai annoying her Senpai, independent characters who sometimes live in their own apartments). Uzaki and Sakurai also have a history that doesn't really get explored much either, so I assume we'll see more of their highschool days in the future. But overall, I'm always down for more adult characters and romance. Uzaki's clinginess doesn't bother me as we've had other endearing relationships start that way (Golden Time).

College student Shinichi Sakurai is an introvert. He enjoys quiet time spent alone to recharge from busy days in the classroom. But he’s not going to get that quiet. Slightly younger student Hana Uzaki is a loud, gregarious extrovert who decided that Sakurai looks lonely and needs a friend. And Uzaki’s appointed herself to be that friend, regardless of Sakuri’s feelings on the issue.

This comedy manga with romantic overtones relies heavily on a classic formula. A cute girl with large breasts (the Seven Seas edition embosses the cover to make them stand out more) who wants to hang out and be friends would be a dream come true for many boys. So for comedy’s sake, she’s paired up with a serious, grumpy guy who would rather be left alone.

To be honest, Uzaki (Sakurai prefers to be on a last name basis) does come off as annoying. Her voice carries, and she likes to tease Sakurai about his solitary habits. She’s especially mean about him going to the movies alone to, you know, actually watch the film. She’s also quick to take advantage of goodies she hasn’t actually been offered.

Over the course of this first volume, Sakurai does come to realize that Uzaki’s a fun person to be around, and she does have some finer qualities. If she could take a hint and let him set boundaries, he might even admit he likes her.

Circumstances often conspire to make it look like the two are dating, or even a bit more, much to Sakurai’s embarrassment (and even Uzaki’s, sometimes; she just wants to be his friend and hang out constantly and sleep at his apartment…no romance there!) It’s obvious to their friends that they will be ending up together, but they’re nowhere near admitting that.

The art’s okay, though backgrounds are sparse at the best of times. Most of the jokes land.

Content note: As hinted previously, a fair number of gags are centered around Uzaki’s oversized breasts (even her favorite t-shirt gets in on the act), there’s a very detailed panty shot at one point, and a bit of partial nudity. Some of Uzaki’s antics might come across as less funny if the sexes were reversed. It’s rated for “Older Teen.”

Overall: A decent enough comedy manga, for fans of the “grumpy guy thaws to energetic gal” story.

Don't be put off by the cover! The unlikely proportions of its eponymous heroine aside, Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out! is actually a (mostly) wholesome slice-of-life slow-burn romantic comedy, and an endearingly sweet one, at that. The male lead comes off as your typical moody male romantic lead at first, but we very quickly see he's got much more depth and warmth to him than that. And while Uzaki-chan initially comes off as an obnoxious fan-service delivery machine, SHE very quickly becomes the heart and the soul of a very funny, very charming, and sweetly romantic tale of two idiots very (very!) slowly realizing they might have feelings for each other.

The art style is crisp and clean, as are the layouts. The comic is a pleasure to look at. The character designs are all fun and distinct.

Like I said, if you get past the silly cover, you won't be disappointed. This book is a delight and I hope more people discover it.

She really grows on you....

Lawd have merthy, look at dem melonz! Geez louise! Ok yeah Uzaki is REALLY annoying, most of the time (ok, ALL the time), but she's just so darn cute! You can see Sempai starts to soften towards her, & what's this? Uzaki keeps a journal of every time Sempai touches her? WUUUUH?? HMMMMMM! As a wise man once said, "Vedy Intevesting, ya!" I'm looking forward to seeing where the flying fickle finger of fate takes these two! Arte, Johnson. Art, pretty darn good. Dialogue, very good, very real. Characters, totally believable, very likeable, & in Sempai's case, VERY relatable. Now, on to volume 2! Sock it to me!

Do you want to read a manga about a cute girl with huge tits being annoying and bugging her introverted friend? If yes, you are going to enjoy this. If not, you are not going enjoy this. Simple as.
This is one of those mangas I read because they are popular or I just came across them and that I enjoy, but the second volume of which I will not add to my to-read list because I have better things to waste my time on.
...but then again I would like to see this develop into a rom-com and the writing shows potential, it is not just ecchi nonsense and you warm up to Uzaki just as Sakurai does as you go along.

Uzaki 1

Typical Slice-of-Life manga involving a Lone Wolf Introvert 20 year old male college student and a 19 year old super hyper female college student who is Super short & stacked sexy body. The story is entertaining but find Uzaki to be super annoying & clingy. Stereo typical. Try to imagine the roles reversed. Quiet introvert girl and aggressive annoying male. Would not appeal to most tastes and not politically correct? I still enjoy the story and will continue. I am a sucker for Japanese Anime/Manga. I like the art style too.

Hana-chan & Sakurai-kun make me very happy. I love their friendship & the way she's so clueless & he's so aware, yet protective, of her.

I'm aware there was a huge scandal surrounding this series, but, through an American lens, I don't have any issue with this story. The typical female protagonist in this type of story would either be tall & buxom or short & waif-ish, so this just seems like a unique combination of the two archetypes.

Ultimately, I find this series very lighthearted & cheerful, which is perfect when I'm in need of a pick-me-up.

More of a 3.5 star rating;
I like the overall wholesome vibe I’m getting from this manga and Uzaki-chan and Sakurai have an amusing dynamic. Although, there were certain small moments where I wanted to shake Uzaki for how she acted or how she phrased certain things. Also, I know she doesn’t mean it to be hurtful, but I worry that the way she speaks towards Sakurai could cause a misunderstanding or for them to have a brief falling out since Sakurai being a “lone wolf” isn’t a bad thing.

Good for what it was with entertaining characters. Uzaki-chan started out as a potential spirit animal, but after a while even I was getting kind of tired of her antics. No amount of boobage is worth that kind of bother. It's aimed at late teens, and it really shows. Could have been juicier, but hey, that's where fanfic comes in.

Ci ho messo tre giorni per leggere 145 pagine (il resto è pubblicità)...

Tre giorni perché la protagonista è impossibile da sopportare! Seno enorme o no, non è quello che la contraddistingue. No! Lei ha un carattere bruttissimo e un modo di fare tremendo. Però le perdonano tutto per il seno gigantesco.

Inutile dire che mollo subito la serie!

Just read all of this manga online and it was great. Solid rom-com slice of life story, decent art, great interplay between characters. Does pretty much everything right with no wasted space.

If you're looking for a cheerful comic that isn't trying to be anything but good fun, this is it.
Loved the male-male relationships in this as well.

Loner boy gets followed by a energetic, chipper, girl that likes to tease him. Each chapter is the male lead encountering her, her greeting him like an energetic puppy, she teases him, and he smacks her, but they end up having fun despite his reluctance. It's kind of like a boke-tsukkomi, but the girl has huge breasts, and also she has huge breasts. It doesn't stop me from liking it for their interactions, but the reader should go in prepared for it.

I dropped the series when it seemed like romance was inevitable and imminent, but it doesn't stop me from getting a laugh out of the early volumes.

After watching the show I wanted to compare it to the source, a source which turned out to be pretty funny. Not the most original concepts but still a well written volume with good introductions to our main characters and some of the side ones as well. A nice change of pace is found in the characters being college students. I will continue the series.

I mean, it’s not terrible or anything. It’s just a relatively standard slice-of-life rom-com series - and I read so many of these back when I was in high school that they all just kinda blend together nowadays, haha.

There were a few funny moments, but this was mostly just alright. I’ll keep reading though cuz I remember liking the more recent chapters online.

Cute and Funny

Uzaki-chan is a cute and funny manga. It's a feel good manga about two friends who are totally not dating and I'm a sucker for that kind of cheese. The humour is good and the art is top notch. I really enjoyed it.

No sex or even dating. You cannot judge a manga by it's cover! These two main characters develop a nice friendship. It's a good slice of life story with potential for romance in the future.
I like that the mcs are adult university students. This puts it above my other mangas in the genre.
