Spandrel Routine

Rate this book
A spandrel is, among other things, the term for a biological feature that emerges as an accidental by-product of evolution – either useless or belatedly brought into use. Composed over two years, as a counterpoint to a burgeoning rhythm of daily private prayer, Spandrel Routine gathers up loose phrases and concerns from the edges of Jack Belloli’s attention, and provides shaded spaces for them to make compacts. These poems trace the queer ways in which the survival of the world can feel both sustained and jump-started day-by-day, in which it demands diffident forms of love.
