His Secret Crush

Rate this book
We used to be in love… and to be honest, I still am.

Seeing Teddy again takes my breath away. He wants us to be friends. Well...I want whatever he wants, whatever he needs. I’m not sure that he can want an alpha like me again - too much history between us, too much time since I broke his heart.

But when he takes me to bed, I can’t help but wonder if there’s a second chance for us. And when he falls pregnant with my kid? It makes me the happiest alpha in the world.

Yet, I can't help but be worried. Duty is bound to call again. Could I really leave the love of my life a second time?

His Secret Crush is an mpreg romance and the first novel in the Omegas Under Siege series. This book, and each book in the series, can be read as a standalone work with a guaranteed happily ever after!

***** The wounded warrior and the computer wiz get a second chance ! Non-shifter Mpreg.
This is book one in Aiden Bates' new series involving a military theme.
Former Army Ranger, Purple Heart recipient, Sergeant Roman Carpenter is an Alpha, who was caught in an IED explosion with his team.

He was burned badly, scarred from ankle to armpit and damage to his center. He probably cannot have children, but in addition his brother lost an arm, and best friend, Jason, died. Jason's brother, Teddy, an Omega, was Roman's love 6 years ago, and now Roman is back on the base.
Teddy and Jason's Dad is Master Sergeant Logan O'Rourke, a tough military Alpha. We see Roman getting back to work after therapy, and
Teddy is a computer/robotic wiz,

who is treated badly by the Alphas in his dept. Teddy wants to succeed in his program creation that will save soldier's lives. He wants to prove to his father, Logan, that he's worthwhile, even if he's an Omega.
The guys meet again and discover they live near each other, and that their urges for sexy times are still strong.
When Teddy is pregnant, Roman is thrilled, because it's a chance he thought he'd lost. Teddy is cautious because he doesn't want to lose his job, when he's so close to concluding the project. But what about Roman's transfer orders?

The story is fascinating with lots of terrific characters. Our couple is the main focus, getting advice from friends, hiding from Logan, making decisions, arguing, and trying hard to figure things out. Aiden Bates does a wonderful job writing his shifters and Mpreg tales. This book will capture your heart with it's veterans and the tough lessons they learn.
Great epilogue. ENJOY !

I really enjoyed the storyline and the way that Teddy didn’t let Alphas push him around and demean him, but I didn’t love the MCs in general. They forgave each other things that should have been discussed further, backed each other into corners, and held out until the other gave in. I’m hoping to enjoy the next book in the series a bit more.

‘On time was late for Sarge…’

Oregon author Aiden Bates began his writing career in journalism (his degree is in both journalism and creative writing) but his fascination/passion for writing romance erotica won him over and we are the grateful recipients of that decision. ‘ With a fun and playful outlook in his writing, he's committed to bring back quality works with a twist only he can bring to the table. In his free time he enjoys reading smut, going to Bartini and writing in the third person.’

This is Book 1 in his Omega’s Under Siege series, and for those for whom this is the first visit, Aiden capitalizes on the theme of Alpha men and Omega men – alphas being the assertive partner and omega the submissive – and joins that with the military dynamic. The story is complex, in a good way, but Aiden manages to outline it as follows: ‘We used to be in love… and to be honest, I still am. I’m at a crossroads in life. My body is scarred and battered. My spirit is struggling. But I have another chance to do what I do best - make a difference in the Army. Of course, it will mean working under my ex-boyfriend’s father. That feels like walking right back into a combat zone. Seeing Teddy again takes my breath away. He wants us to be friends. I want… well. I want whatever he wants, whatever he needs. I’m not sure that he can want an alpha like me again - too much history between us, too much time since I broke his heart. But when he takes me to bed, I can’t help but wonder if there’s a chance for us. And when he falls pregnant with my kid? It makes me the happiest alpha in the world.’

A bit of the book’s opening makes a fine overture, introducing Roman – Four minutes past six. Dr. Smith was late. I sat in a chair in the waiting room. The had plastic dug uncomfortably into my back, and I only just reminded myself not to start fidgeting. I’d always hated doctor visits, and, god, in the last year I’d had more than my share. I looked around the VA waiting room and suppressed a sigh. The Army ran on time. The Veterans Administration? Not so much. It didn’t help me to dwell on it, and besides, I was very much aware of how lucky I was to be here to grumble about a doctor’s visit in the first place…’

Aiden continues to create unique books that take a twist on what appears to be a familiar setting and theme and in doing so he keeps his talent polished to a fare-thee-well. Very strong book to continue a new series!

i read this book as part of an arc program. This is the second chance romance between Teddy and Roman. They had dated secretly in school and were in love until Roman left to join the military. Teddy was an omega who was raised along with his brother Jason by his alpha father who was an officer in the military and treated Teddy like he was an alpha. Teddy worked for Department of Defense and was also building a device to help soldiers in combat. Teddy never wanted to be the typical omega and find an alpha to have babies with. Teddy wanted his career and was heartbroken when Roman left. Roman served with Teddy's brother Jason and when Jason was killed, Roman was also injured. Now six years later, Roman re-enlists and takes a position as a drill sergeant with the agreement he stay away from Teddy when asked by Teddy's father. Roman still loves Teddy and when they see each other, there is still an attraction they can't fight. They want to keep things a secret for now and worry about what would happen if word was out they were together. Teddy worries he could lose his job and his father would take things out on Roman. I liked this book. I liked Roman, even if he didn't have the best self esteem. I think Teddy was a little stubborn and worried about things too much. I think Roman was all in and loved Teddy and thought they would be together. Teddy seemed to be only treating things as temporary and thought Roman was going to leave him again so he held back. I think they were great together and had a great connection. Another great one.

The story it’s just a regular one with regular guys. There is zero alpha and omega angle to the story. And it’s totally not like how the blurb pointed it to be. There is zero conflict there is no struggle and they get back together pretty easily after one meeting or two. And the whole plot line about him not being able to have children that also dispensed very early in the plot. And it was a miracle pregnancy. It was just so frustrating That none of the struggle and story building I had anticipated was there.

And after all of Romans talk about being supportive and being there for him and staying back and looking after the child. He turned out to be just as insensitive as any other male in most middle part of the story.

And way too too many secondary characters and page time for them.

Also the way Teddy’s old job ended was totally unsatisfying. I really wanted him to win in the face of his previous colleagues who didn’t appreciate him. But there was no closure on it. And what happened about his simulator invention nothing was written about that either in the end.

The epilogue was so underwhelming

I've read a handful of Aiden Bates ABO books. I find that a lot of them tend to go way OTT with some crazy/evil villain. This book didn't have that, for which I am incredibly grateful.

I did find the alternating POVs a bit weak, there wasn't much to differentiate the two.

I didn't care for Teddy a whole lot.

Also, from what Roman recounted of their past break up, it seemed to me that he was under the impression that Teddy was messing around with another omega. That wasn't really touched on again, and the break up seemed to mainly fall on Roman's shoulders.

This was exactly what I needed to calm my tired brain during learning breaks and after work days.
It's sweet, predictable and straight forward. I enjoyed Teddy's work ambitions and Roman's simple mind both.
That being said - and I sort of knowingly chose a story like this just for that purpose - nothing wowed me.
There are no particularly interesting twists and frankly, I would have gladly traded two thirds of the sex scenes for a little more plot.

Moving on to book 2

I got bored by the average storyline and the long dialogues so I started to skim at 84%. Roman was tolerable, Teddy unlikable, and I didn’t care about them. I just wanted to finish the book so I could read the next one. Logan was the most interesting character in this book and I’m happy to move on to his book.

Second chance romance is one of my favourite tropes. I like everything about this book. The pace is great. MCs are very likeable. It's an easy read but still packs quite a punch by tackling some serious relationship issues. My only complaint is it does seem a bit rush solving their issues at the end.

Honesty—best policy, right?

Roman and Teddy—no problem with the chemistry! Are they brave enough to go public now that they’ve reconnected as adults with their own careers? Enjoy their dilemmas as well as all their steamy moments!!!

This is a sweet, but somewhat gritty and tempestuous second-chance love story. Roman and Teddy fell in love in high school, but then Roman left to join the military, leaving Teddy behind and breaking his heart. Roman was injured and now he is back home and he'd like rekindle his relationship with Teddy. Meanwhile, Teddy has been forging his own way in an alpha-dominated career. There is still chemistry between the two, but both men are wounded in their ways and rebuilding trust and love is hard. There is an HEA, but it's a hard road to get there, and Roman and Teddy both have to make changes and focus on their love to get there. I loved the characters and look forward to more in this series.

Really being valued for your true self is so powerful. A second chance for love requires both men to be vulnerable and true to themselves.   Finding a balance between the dreams for work and for one's personal life can be difficult and these guys really had to figure that out.  They had to learn to trust themselves and each other again.

Teddy and Roman have chemistry to burn and their attraction is soul deep.  Roman is still loving Teddy and yet he has to find value in himself to be ready for a real relationship. Being wounded and losing his friend in the war ans left its tole on Roman. Teddy is use to fighting to be treated as an equal in an Alpha dominated world.. he has to learn to accept Roman in his life. Teddy has to learn to trust and believe that Roman is here for forever.  Such a great couple an i so enjoyed this story!

This is book one of the A Fort Greene Novel series.  (Under Siege Books) and i am looking forward to listening to the next book.

This series is binge worthy. I have 1&2 read, now on the 3&4. The chemistry and connection between all the characters is simply perfect. Each story is different but perfectly entwined into the others. I can’t say enough good. The bonus chapter for this one is so good you must read!

Teddy had always been super smart. Even though he was older, Roman felt like he would be following Teddy - except college was no place for him. So off he went with Jason, brother to Teddy, and Garret to war.

No one came back the same. Jason never came back at all, completely destroying his plans with Charlie for a life, family and future with each other.

Garett came back with one less arm, yet he and Silas managed to work things out. Marco fought to keep his brother Pedro on life support, certain he would someday wake up.

Roman came back with scars and grafts over 40 percent of his body. He never wanted to bring ugly to Teddy, and he failed to bring home Jason. How long would it take for them both to realize that Roman never stopped loving Teddy?

Teddy works very hard to get ahead in an alpha dominated field. Would love or a family mean sacrificing his dreams and career?

Sometimes love is even more complicated than we make it.

Steamy m/m romance- great portrayal of the conflicts with the balance of work, family and military life.

A smart man, knows when to reach out for help. Teddy is Jason's younger Omega brother. Jason sacrificed his life to save his buddies when he saw an IED. Roman was badly scarred and medically retired after the explosion. He is eligible to reenlist but he will have to work with MSgt O'Rourke, Teddy's dad. Garrett lost his arm. Pedro is in a coma. Marcus stands watch over Pedro. When they were younger, Teddy and Roman had a thing, instigated by Teddy, but Roman was smitten and would do whatever Teddy wanted. Roman feels he's not smart. Teddy is a genius. Teddy liked Roman because he always chose to do the right thing. So, Roman has to balance working for Logan, Teddy's dad who is a hard ass, sneaking around with Teddy, whom he loves and his career. Will Logan find out they are in a relationship? Can Roman get over his insecurity? Can Teddy get over his big brain? Absolutely great story! Nice characters. Nice team. Will Pedro wake up? Are the guys getting counseling? I was confused/unclear about Roman's rank, but otherwise, nice shout out to our Warfighters! Nicely done! I recieved an ARC from Booksprout for a review.

Roman and Theodore dating during high school but broke up when Roman joined the Army. The military information was wrong at every turn and distracting every time it was mentioned. The Army does not work this way. Roman cannot re-enlist without going through a recruiter and getting a full medical clearance. After all of his damage and therapy, he may not be fully deployable and therefore unable to re-enlist. He would also be required to attend Drill school to be properly trained. The Army does not refer to enlisted as Sir. He would not continue to have appointments at the VA if he re-enlisted. No one deploys for six years.

Everyone constantly tells Roman how dumb he was, even he believed it. Theodore's father always said how much he didn't beat around the bush but cannot say or do anything without being overly long-winded. Teddy says he wants to be a strong Omega and how important his career is, but he continually bows to the whims of the Alphas at work and MANY HR complaints he should file but goes along with.

Roman and Teddy grew up together and became an 'item' in high school. When Roman goes off to war with Teddy's brother the relationship cannot stand the strain. Six years later, Roman is back to stay due to IED injuries and is swept into Teddy's circle once more, but not reluctantly as he would like to claim the man he loves. Teddy is grappling with stereotypical workplace issues, the loss of his brother, and trying to keep a relationship with his disciplined father alive; so he's caught off guard by Roman's return. The characterization of the principles is good. So good in fact that I found myself wanting to slap Roman for his self-deprecation. The story is fast-moving with a great cast and a sweet rekindling of lost love.I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

So, this was a nice story, and I really liked Teddy, and it was really easy to understand his issues and shortcomings. But I had quite a bit of troubles with Roman, and the relentless statement that he wasn't the 'brightest crayon on the box' or whatever iteration was used. He's presented as someone who lived of his looks, which is something I truly dislike. And yes, he has grown after all that happened when he was on duty, but... I still don't buy their relationship.

Because Teddy IS a genius, and there is no way that someone who is so smart would want someone who is presented as quite stupid, TBH.

But, as I said before, I really liked Teddy's journey, and I liked his friendship with his co-worker... oh, I can't remember right now, argh! It was Olivia? Anyway, I enjoyed more this relationship than the one with Roman :P

Bill Burrows does a great job with the narration :D
