Ethan's Valentine's day isn't going well. His plan for the Hollywood party he doesn't want to attend is to hit up the free bar for all the gin they'll give him, then slink home, alone. Instead, he gets lost in the host's mansion and runs into a handsome stranger. Suddenly his night takes a sharp turn for the better.
Charlie has everything he could ever want, except someone to love, and he's just about given up trying to find him. Then, at his party, he stumbles upon a young man gawking at his Czanne and cursing his name. Charlie is amused, then charmed, then turned on by Ethan, who can't shut up and has the biggest blue eyes Charlie has ever seen.
Both know that falling into bed with a stranger is a terrible idea, but it might turn out to best mistake either has ever made.
Be My Mistake is a 28K word novella that's a prequel to the novel Damage Control. It can be read on its own.
A series of intense sex scenes. It was a short but pretty satisfying read. I actually like a little more background and plot in my books, even if they are short. But surprisingly, I didn't feel like anything was missing here. If you want to read something intense, and I mean really intense, that's full of hesitant Daddy kink without actually calling it that at first, because Ethan doesn't know that's exactly what he needs, then this is a perfect little naughty story. However, sorry, I should have started with this, Ethan is pretty drunk and they still have sex, so if that's a big no-no for you, then please avoid this book at all costs. Because even though Charlie is a caring Daddy, he is also very sex-obsessed.
Charlie put his hand over Ethan’s mouth to silence him, then ran his fingers over Ethan’s cheek in a light caress. “Stop. Do you want to stay the night, Ethan? Knowing I will use your body as I see fit for as long as I care to use it?” 😳🤤😳
“You are mine, and you need to know something very important.” Charlie backed Ethan up until his bare ass hit the edge of his kitchen table. “I keep what’s mine.” 🫠🌶️🫠
Damn! What's with the many unnecessary prolonged sex scenes?
The writing is not for me at all. I don't think I will be continuing this series. I can't stand the whining and I believe there will be more in the next books.

An Awesome Narration of a Quirky , Sexy Story
Be My Mistake it's an entertaining, laughing out loud, hot AF, quirky, age gap, lite Daddy kink, MM Rom/Com short story, with a happy ever after and a hilarious epilogue years into the future.
Written in a playful, tongue in cheek tone, filled with snarky and witty banter , John Hughes and the Brat Pack movie references . Starring two gorgeous, likeable and charming heroes and a menagerie of offbeat secondary characters.
Michael Ferraiuolo narration was Spot On! His portrayal of Pillow Prince Ethan and Daddy Charlie were better than my imagination. He did justice to Lynn Van Dorn fun story. Overall: 4.5 stars Performance: 4.5 stars Story: 4.5 stars Heat levels : 4 out of 5 Angst levels: 1.5 out of 5 Drama levels: 0 out of 0 Re-read/Re-listen : Yes Recommend: Yes
This novella was funny, sweet and quite a promising prequel to the series, so I'll definitely check it out.
🟣 Billionaire / journalist (poor twink) 😄 🟢 Age gap - 17 years 🔵 Size difference 🟠 Rags to riches 🟡 Daddy kind (mild) 🟣 Instalove 🔵 Romantic 🌶️ Great sex
Ethan is in a relationship with Tyler, who's a rising movie star and quite familiar in the more wealthy movie crowd. They have a somewhat unsatisfying relationship (gee, I wonder why) where Tyler doesn't really get Ethan, has his own issues and Ethan, who always picks the wrong guys, can't really pinpoint what he's really missing in his love life. He's naturally submissive and wants someone to take care of him, but the guy has to be nice.
Ethan and Tyler break up and remain friends while going to a party of a rich billionaire Charles, who's 42 years old and also can't find the right guy who'd make his most inner desires come true. Charles wants to find his boy, someone to take care of and cherish, but he's not optimistic about it, so he's resigned about getting lucky - until he comes across Ethan at his party.
"Charlie needed to give up on the idea of finding the perfect man for him. That man didn't exist. Charlie could either have an emotionally fulfilling relationship, or a sexually fulfilling one, but expecting both at the same time was like the ending of any romantic movie : pure, impossible fantasy."
Their interactions are sweet and swoony, they spend the weekend together and when Ethan tries to get back to his apartment - and stay there - it doesn't work, because Charles is already in love and Ethan comes to terms with what that missing thing is in his life - and it's a daddy. More specifically, it's Charles.
"Mine, he thought, watching Ethan turn around in a slow circle, taking his surroundings with his mouth slightly agape. My bedroom, my bed, my boy."
The daddy kink is very mild and it's just how I like it. I dislike the cocky, arrogant and dominant types and their boys, but I do like this, because it's very simple and leaves room for that great relationship development with lots of potential, when in a very strict D/b dynamic I feel like everything's already written in stone, so it doesn't really appeal to me.
I would've definitely liked to read a bit about their life together, Charles was promising a lot and for Ethan this is a whole new world, so a lot was left to be said, it's quite a shame it wasn't. They do get married in the end, so I'm glad we got that.
“I don’t go around fucking random twinks in the wild. This is my first time, and God willing, my last. I’m going to fuck you in my bed, my pool, my bathroom, and even in the hallway while you look at my Cézanne. I will fuck you across the world in hotels and inns and maybe even a fucking yurt. But you. Only you. Only ever you. Even when I’m eighty and you’re sixty- three. Only you, sweet boy. Do you understand?”
So in here we have Ethan, a young fella who was dumped by his best friend/boyfriend who is a famous actor. Ethan works for tmz and had mentioned that he was going to a party thrown by a famous rich guy named Charles Weston. So even though they broke up, Ethan still had to go.
Charlie is a Daddy in search of a boy and while Ethan was not already a boy, he was willing to go along with it.
I wish all mansions came with a twink pit.
This all happens over a weekend but if one just goes with the flow, it makes sense. I love the whole vibe.
The epilogue is three years later, and I felt that it made sense and gave them time to get to know each other.
Michael Ferraiuolo did a good job, I just wish Charlie had a stronger voice when being all stern Daddy.

Totally loved this
It was absolutely unbelievable but eh, I'm easily persuaded into letting things just flow. I was not happy with Tyler dumping Ethan at the beginning just cause I hated seeing him hurt.
This was my first story by Lynn Van Dorn, and Be My Mistake is just as gorgeous the second time around. Heck, it was even better because, performed by Michael Ferraiuolo, it's a decadent Valentine's Day treat. (I know that was corny, but this novella is just that good!)
Perfect as a standalone romance, and if you liked Damage Control, you'll enjoy Tyler and Purvi's cameos, but you definitely don't have to read any of the other North Shore Stories novels to get the most out of Be My Mistake.
an audiobook copy of Be My Mistake was provided to me for the purpose of my honest review
Ok so let's talk about this one a bit. You see this was my first every story by Lynn Van Dorn and I was very pleasantly surprised because...daddy kink. I'm not adverse to this and I've read a few books that have had daddy kink in them with varying degrees of enjoyment ranging anywhere from 'I need a cold shower now...this sucks and not in a good way.' and this one was definitely a case of a good story and the right narrator...Michael Ferrauolo works every time for me apparently making this one a 'time for a cold shower' story.
I have to admit I do wish there had been a bit more story here as there's a considerable time gap between the end of the story and the epilogue...around 3 years so that's the main reason that this was a 4 star read/listen for me. This was still a very enjoyable read/listen and I'm looking forward to enjoying the next book in this series right after a short detour for some audio reviews. But if you enjoy audio books and if daddy kink's your thing and you have a cold shower handy...you might want to check this one out.
I continue to love Lynn's work - catching up on some of her older stories and really enjoyed Ethan and Charlie in this. She has such a great voice to her writing - the snark, the sass, and the little touches like the chapter titles and day/time/setting are just perfection.
Not quite 4 Stars but it's an interesting intro to a series and I'm eager to read the next one...especially since it's Tyler's story. This one wasn't very long but the next one is, and given what we know of Tyler? Oooohwheeee, yeah.
I like Damage Control a lot, and wanted to get another dose of Lyn Van Dorn. This wasn’t quite my cuppa. First, I can’t visualize Tyler’s character with Ethan’s character. Maybe because we only really see him with Charlie, where he’s mostly an hysterical, crying mess during sex, then a needy mess while convinced Charlie isn’t serious. The story needs serious suspension of disbelief for the insta-love, too. Nothing is really wrong with the story as long as you don’t mind mostly PWP, Daddy style.
I love daddy kink, so this one was right up my alley. I already read Damage Control, so some of the characters were familiar. This story is light on plot and high on sexy times. The pacing felt a tad off at times with a little too much time spent on debating/internal dialogue, but the sexy times more than made up for that. Very sweet, super sexy.
I would have given this a solid 2-star rating were it not for the fact that Ethan was completely inebriated when he and Charlie hooked up and that Charlie acknowledge Ethan's lack of sobriety in both pre- & post- coitus.
POV Ethan: Ethan was drunk. Not a little tipsy, or somewhat inebriated. Sloop drunk. Encourage and asshole then regret it when it's too late drunk. Why is is the room spinning and why does my hand hurt? and how did I get down this hallway? drunk.
POV Ethan: Then... something... had happened. Ethan remembered waning to hit the guy, and his hand hurt, so he must have. But where had the guy gone? He had no idea. And, where was he? Also, no idea, but somewhere in Weston's house.
POV Charlie: It made Charlie want to scoop him up and carry him off to his bed. The only problem with that, aside from the questionable morality of taking advantage of a drunk man [...]
POV Ethan: "[...] I'm too drunk for this shit. My brain's all mushy. My ability to make words is tempoarily gone. Check back later."
POV Ethan: [...] but I wish I was slightly soberer because I don't think I can properly appreciate this.
POV Charlie: [...] then taken the inebriated man to his bed, where he'd proceeded to fuck him repeatedly.
Yeah for another good book from a new to me author. This was a fun quick read. Really enjoyed the banter/connection between Ethan and Charlie even with how “fast” things moved. Oh, and loved the Daddy kink, which was very light IMO.
This is a really good story. I loved both Charlie and Ethan together. They were so different but worked so well. This is a prequel to Damage Control, Tyler’s story. Tyler is an actor and I'm not a fan of books with characters who are in the entertainment industry (actors, musicians, etc.). There’s also a fake boyfriend, another thing I normally avoid like the plague in the books I read. Nothing against the author, but I doubt I’ll be reading it. I just can’t see me reading 431 pages of a story with things that just don’t work for me. One of my biggest reading pet peeves is reading a review that says, “I’m rating this book low because I don’t like *insert whatever here* even though it states very clearly in the blurb and everywhere else that it has *whatever* in it.” I’m paraphrasing but you know what I mean. 🙂 I won’t be that girl.
I will, however, be seeking out others by Lynn Van Dorn.
Lynn writes from the heart, and deeply. This story is beautiful and steamy. A bit of kink, a lot of lust and some great humour make this a wonderful read. Michael Ferraiuolo doing the audio simply adds an additional layer of sex appeal and he does a fantastic job of bringing Lynn's characters to life!
Wow! Super sexy gay hawtness going on right here!!!!! Don’t know how I never read this author before but I will definitely be reading her again. Funny, sexy, and sweet. All the things I require in a five star romance! And it was short so I read it in an afternoon which is a bonus!
A prequel to the North Shore series, the pairing of Ethan & Charlie at a 80’s Movie themed costume party. There is a drunk Ethan, a distain for ostentatious wealth and a Daddy kink. What’s not to like!? I found another author to my list of favorites!
2.5 stars. Okay, I didn't really like this one, but it won't stop me from reading more in this series. I really want Tyler's story which is next. The beginning of the story, Ethan is drunk at a party at Charlie's house, and when I say drunk, he was drunk! Charlie takes him to bed and Ethan calls him Charles Weston for what seemed like a long time. Also, the first time in bed was not sexy as Ethan had diarrhea mouth. But I really couldn't get over that Ethan was drunk & that kind of grossed me out. I wouldn't have minded if he was buzzed, but he was flat out drunk. The story spans a weekend and then we skip 3 years later in the epilogue where they are getting married. I know this was a short story, but I would have liked it to be a little longer then a weekend fling.
Audio RC provided by GRR in exchange for an honest review.
This is a Cinderfella story and for that it is like 3.5 stars but I absolutely loved Ethan and Charlie. Ethan especially for the super funny natural way he thought and Charlie for being such a good guy. So I added a whole star just for the sheer likability of the MC's. Though you know it is very pretty woman. I practically heard the "Welcome to Hollywood, What's your dream...." in my ears as I finished.
What a fun story. I loved Charlie and Ethan. This is short but sweet and makes you feel good. I’m not really into Daddy kink, but Lynn can make me enjoy it.
